[00:00:00] Speaker A: Foreign.
[00:00:09] Speaker B: And welcome back to the official Emmaus athletics podcast. Your front row seat to Mass athletics. We're back, Shane. I'm your host, Matthew Tomlinson, joined by the ever Shane Douglas after taking a week off due to us.
[00:00:24] Speaker A: We just wanted a break. We just needed a break.
[00:00:26] Speaker B: Will was gone. He was in Oklahoma.
[00:00:28] Speaker A: No excuse. We just needed a break. Let's just go with that.
[00:00:30] Speaker B: So sorry that we missed last week.
[00:00:32] Speaker A: Sorry, Andy. Sorry Andy.
[00:00:33] Speaker B: We are back. I know his. His week was not as great.
[00:00:36] Speaker A: It was. It's been a busy month, honestly. Like we're in October now, but September was extremely busy. Especially in the enrollment world. Traveling a lot. And then we went from what, Discovery, Mace weekend, spiritual emphasis week, Homecoming, homecoming, back to back to back Crazy week. Someone who scheduled that? My gosh.
Thanks Joel for planning fall break.
Oh, now we got fall break this upcoming weekend.
[00:01:00] Speaker B: That's the whole reason why everything got moved.
[00:01:02] Speaker A: It's true.
[00:01:02] Speaker B: Because it wasn't.
[00:01:03] Speaker A: Get rid of the fall break. It doesn't help anyone.
[00:01:05] Speaker B: Nah, man. Especially like a third of the student body is still gonna be on campus.
[00:01:11] Speaker A: We didn't really have. I mean this fall breaks along.
[00:01:13] Speaker B: It is.
[00:01:13] Speaker A: We didn't have a long haul break. Well, we got a long show.
[00:01:16] Speaker B: Yeah. Shane, we got a lot to cover but.
[00:01:18] Speaker A: A lot to cover. Really? Anything new in your life, Matt, that needs to be shared since we. You didn't say anything last week.
Everyone missed your beautiful face.
[00:01:27] Speaker B: I mean we just had a crazy paper that we had to do for the master's program.
[00:01:30] Speaker A: It's easier to go that way, but other than that.
[00:01:34] Speaker B: I mean, just gearing up for basketball practice on Friday. Hey, tomorrow.
[00:01:38] Speaker A: Basketball. Basketball. Let's go.
That not. That doesn't mean we're not looking forward to or we're done with the fall. We're not talking about basketball quite yet. I know Matt's itching too, but we're still. Still got a lot to cover. A lot to talk about. The season is not over.
[00:01:54] Speaker B: It's not.
[00:01:54] Speaker A: Okay. It's. It's.
[00:01:56] Speaker B: We're in the middle season left.
[00:01:57] Speaker A: We're kind of in the middle. We're almost in the end game in the middle for soccer, volleyball and cross country, so. Oh, you snapped your fingers. You're good. That's so funny. But nothing new in Shane's life really. So. Same thing. Just, you know, plugging away. I mean we did win intramurals.
[00:02:14] Speaker B: We did a. The staff team won flag football championship.
[00:02:18] Speaker A: Destroy.
Wow.
[00:02:22] Speaker B: I'm just crazy because the game that you were there on last Thursday That I missed because I was traveling. It was a close game.
[00:02:29] Speaker A: Hey, hey. You be quiet.
[00:02:31] Speaker B: Yeah, the student team on Tuesday night was.
[00:02:37] Speaker A: Don't talk about the student team like that, man.
[00:02:39] Speaker B: I mean, it would have been worse if Reggie didn't drop a touchdown.
[00:02:41] Speaker A: Don't talk about Reggie.
[00:02:43] Speaker B: It's fine. It's fine. It's fine. It's fine. It's fine. It's fine.
[00:02:45] Speaker A: I went off for 252Touch. No, I didn't. I did half of that.
[00:02:49] Speaker B: Craziest farm ever.
[00:02:52] Speaker A: I did say I was gonna go off for 152tuddies. I got half of that, so I'll take it, you know, but shout out.
[00:02:57] Speaker B: To soccer assistant coach Travis Holton, old man with some wheels. Return a kickoff for a touchdown.
[00:03:04] Speaker A: There's a.
We can't really plug them, but there's a student Instagram page that is speaking about, you know, recaps. So if you find them, you find them and, you know, check them out. But, you know, I don't know if we. We should plug plug them. But intramurals is going off to a hot, hot start.
I haven't really played at intramural since my senior year.
[00:03:26] Speaker B: That's crazy.
[00:03:27] Speaker A: So it's, uh. And the last intramural I played, I got T shirt.
[00:03:31] Speaker B: So I want victory for Shane Douglas.
[00:03:34] Speaker A: So I only got a few more intramurals to win, and then I've won every single one here in a mess. So we're. I'll make a check checklist, and who knows if I'll continue to play. But this isn't about us, guys. Okay? I know.
Honestly, a lot of them. But, yeah, we're not here to talk about our. Yeah, exactly. We're not here to talk about our success.
[00:03:58] Speaker B: We're talking about intercollegiate athletics here at Emmaus.
[00:04:01] Speaker A: And our volleyball team just had an amazing victory the other night.
[00:04:07] Speaker B: The trophy, Pollard Field House, the Lightwell Insurance trophy between Emmaus and Faith Volleyball stays out of Maze for another year.
[00:04:16] Speaker A: There we go. There we go.
[00:04:17] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:04:18] Speaker A: Faith was ranked what in the nation?
[00:04:21] Speaker B: They're ranked fourth last week and then fifth in the most recent coaches poll.
[00:04:25] Speaker A: Fifth in the nation goes down to the number nine team in the nation, Emmaus Eagles. And we keep this beautiful trophy which has yet to be in the hands of the Faith Eagles.
[00:04:38] Speaker B: O.
[00:04:39] Speaker A: So there it is.
It's beautiful.
[00:04:43] Speaker B: So shout out to the volleyball team on that big win. 2.
[00:04:45] Speaker A: Just leave it here. It looks good here. I like it.
Keep it.
[00:04:50] Speaker B: This. Let's keep it here as long as we can.
[00:04:53] Speaker A: I mean yeah, here we go.
[00:04:54] Speaker B: But yeah. Going off that huge week for volleyball.
Excuse me. Obviously our last episode we talked about their tough streak that they've played with.
[00:05:03] Speaker A: Yes.
[00:05:04] Speaker B: Two in AIs number one and the number five at the time. And they've really kind of turned things around. Shane. They have these last five games.
Obviously they switched some things up, did some new rotations. You know our, our first team all conference players back in her natural position at middle and she's been playing really good our serve. Our people are healthy.
[00:05:25] Speaker A: People are.
[00:05:25] Speaker B: People are finally healthy. Our defense has been looking all whole heck of a lot better.
[00:05:29] Speaker A: Yes.
[00:05:29] Speaker B: But man. Yeah. Emmaus volleyball finally turned that gear and has really been going out. You stare at yourself right there.
[00:05:36] Speaker A: So shiny.
[00:05:36] Speaker B: It is so shiny.
[00:05:37] Speaker A: I can just. I'm looking at my referral.
[00:05:38] Speaker B: Yeah. We have five games to cover from the last two weeks. But in that time, beautiful Lady Eagles went 3 and 2 in that stretch.
[00:05:46] Speaker A: Shane.
[00:05:46] Speaker B: Obviously a big 30 victory against Maranatha at homecoming.
[00:05:51] Speaker A: Great.
[00:05:51] Speaker B: So great. Always a great day to be the Mays Eagle.
[00:05:54] Speaker A: Yep.
[00:05:54] Speaker B: When Emmaus beats the Saber Cats.
[00:05:56] Speaker A: It's, it's honestly crazy though Matt, because you look at our conference, the mccc and a lot of the teams are ranked in the nation. I know you have Calvary, Ozark, Manhattan now Emmaus. Emmaus Faith. So almost shout out to the mccc man. Yeah. Five real half of the the top ten teams are from the nccc so the Midwest is killing it. They are volleyball. Let's go baby.
[00:06:20] Speaker B: Let's go.
[00:06:21] Speaker A: Of course you got to deal with the powerhouses of Pensacola and Bob Jones and boys defending champion Arlington. So but so honestly at the end day, I mean you know these are our competitors but I would love to see the NCCC take away.
[00:06:36] Speaker B: Take a championship.
[00:06:37] Speaker A: Yeah. It'd be awesome. Go to the nationals. So we'll, we'll see how it goes. I know a lot of us are split up within regions and that's where it really gets serious. The tournament for NCCC is coming up at the end of the month, uh, beginning of November.
So we'll kind of. We'll. That's gonna be super interesting.
[00:06:55] Speaker B: Of the seven, well I guess six right now in triple C teams. I mean they're divided up between four regions.
[00:07:00] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:07:01] Speaker B: So there could be at minimum four teams represented plus whoever gets about the host bid or the power or the power ranking bid.
[00:07:10] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:07:10] Speaker B: And automatic bid.
[00:07:11] Speaker A: And that's honestly conference championship. The conference tournament becomes even more.
Becomes even more important.
[00:07:22] Speaker B: You did that to, to mute Me, Right.
[00:07:24] Speaker A: No, I didn't do anything. No, no. What I'm saying is the conference tournament becomes even more important this year because there's so many ranked opponents.
[00:07:29] Speaker B: Exactly.
[00:07:30] Speaker A: So it, you can't just go into the conference and be like, we don't care what happens. We're focused on regions because power rankings are going to come into a massive effect at tournament play because you. For our team, for Emmaus Women's Eagles, they're going to be playing against all these top schools in the nation, not just in the region, not just our conference in the nation. And if we just go in there, lay an egg, it's going to look bad. It's going to. They probably affect our regional standings, of course, our national standings, too. So we're, we're, we're hitting stride right now. We're getting hot. We're being on fire at the right time. Let's carry that momentum to the end of the season through conference, through regionals, and finally get to nationals, get back.
[00:08:14] Speaker B: To there, which we haven't been there since 2019, 2018.
But yeah, going off that Shane, and you, you know, you hit, you hit the ball on the head. You know, three of our last five games were against top eight teams.
[00:08:25] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:08:25] Speaker B: But yeah, after that, after the marinath game, we traveled down to, to Ozark, played at their place, the number eight team in the nation.
And yeah, things. They turned things around, ultimately lost 3 to 2 in sets. But the fact that we got. We took them to the fifth set was pretty amazing. A lot of great things to take away from that. And then the next day played the number five team, Calvary, who has honestly been dominating. They've been playing very well. And we took that to five sets. We end up losing three, two, unfortunately. But it was at Calvary. But I mean, they look, this team.
[00:08:58] Speaker A: Looks totally different, but like you said, like a new rotation, some, some changes and things. Things happening with the team and finally getting into a rhythm, you know, and hoping to add more to it. We'll see what that, those games in that fifth set, what that's going to look like come tournament play. Right. We know we can get to that fifth set, right?
[00:09:18] Speaker B: Maybe we can.
[00:09:19] Speaker A: Maybe we don't need to get to the fifth and we can win it in four. Right.
So I think with more. Hey, there we go. With more momentum, with more experience with this lineup, with this team, I'm interested to see what they're able to do at the end of the season against these same opponents.
[00:09:33] Speaker B: Exactly. And after the Calvary game, we beat Spurgeon 30 again, sweep them on the season. And I exactly like. I appreciate what Landon Jacobus, our volleyball announcer, said on Tuesday night about how Emmaus volleyball is finally looking like Emmaus volleyball. They have their mojo back. And we saw that on Tuesday night when we played Faith, who was the number four team fighting for the tro. The cup, the trophy. And that's after losing to them earlier in the season, three sets to zero.
And the ladies came out and they dominated. They dropped the first set, which was like, oh boy, what's going to happen? And then they, they dominated the next three sets.
[00:10:10] Speaker A: Legit.
[00:10:10] Speaker B: It was awesome.
[00:10:12] Speaker A: If you didn't watch it, go back and watch it on, honestly on YouTube. It's. It's a fantastic match.
[00:10:17] Speaker B: It was. And yeah, just seeing them and all like the season has been the storyline. The season has been errors.
[00:10:24] Speaker A: Yep.
[00:10:24] Speaker B: And just the mental battle and you know, we've given away so many points throughout the season and that did not. Has not really happened these last five games.
[00:10:33] Speaker A: And I still think, I still think with the. Our. This women's team is, you know, or even on all athletics, the mental battle is definitely a factor through and through with from any level from. From, you know, you know, you know, tykes or to professional. So you were dealing with that mental battle and to overcome that adversity, to overcome getting past the moment, moving on to the next is something that every athlete really goes through. And it, it's tough because I think about. I'm like, I don't really know how to coach that, how to. How to train someone to get past that mental block. That's honestly a self. A self refle thing.
[00:11:11] Speaker B: It's them wanting it.
[00:11:12] Speaker A: Yeah, it truly is. So it's, it's a little flip, a little. A light switch in your mind that you can. You just got to make. You just got to switch it on and be able to get past those little, little errors or little things going on that hold you back. And I'm looking forward to see the volleyball team flip that switch.
[00:11:29] Speaker B: I know. I mean, 5 and 10 record this season, but 5 and 4 against teams.
[00:11:34] Speaker A: At our level, we got the talent all around from everyone on the team, is talented, can add a lot to the court. And it's just getting past that mental barrier, coming together as a team, loving one another and competing, playing the heck.
[00:11:50] Speaker B: Out of your role. It's going to be good.
[00:11:52] Speaker A: Yeah, it's, it's. It's not just what you do on the court too, but off the court, you know, and if, if, if we're not putting Christ first in both aspects.
[00:11:59] Speaker B: Then why are we doing it?
[00:12:00] Speaker A: Why are we. Why are we doing it? You know, it's not about, it's not about the kills. It's not about the playtime. It's not about the service. It's not about any of that stuff. It's. It's what the, what our women's team is doing before the game and after the game. And what they're doing is they're writing cards to the opponents. You know, they're creating relationships saying, hey, we love you guys. We're praying for you. We hope you have a great season. Right. I didn't like the, the personal letters and then even after the game of coming together, praying individually not just as a two teams is just an amazing thing. I love seeing our women's volleyball team do and they're going above and beyond of what they need to do as an athletic team.
[00:12:36] Speaker B: I mean, I, you know, back in the day, Moody used to do this with her basketball team and I got one from Luke Schreif and I, I carry it with me since 2014 because how impactful that was.
[00:12:48] Speaker A: I love that. See? And I just love that to see our women's team doing that same exact thing. And the fact that you still have that letter, you know, that that little note from a Moody player when you played is.
Gives me chills. It makes me excited to. To hear about our women's team doing the same thing for other.
Other women on. Across our conference, across these teams. Even the ones that we don't.
[00:13:11] Speaker B: The soon to be nation.
[00:13:13] Speaker A: Yeah. But even, even the other teams that you know, aren't necessarily Christian. Right. And seeing them come together and have a testimony as we've as. As we talk about this podcast this this year.
[00:13:22] Speaker B: So I'm excited to the May women's volleyball team.
[00:13:25] Speaker A: We're excited for them to see what they're able to do. And honestly speaking, the volleyball kind of jumping over that curve. We still have that little bump for our soccer team. Just to be transparent. It's going. Having a long stretch of losses, some ties. The men's record is 3, 6 and 2 for the season right now, dropping 2 to 1 to Maranatha, a loss to Great Lakes, a loss to Faith this last week, and then tying Ozark this last weekend.
It's been tough.
[00:13:55] Speaker B: It has been. I mean looking on the positive side of things first, you know, the last that we had four games since our last episode and like you said, 031.
But the incur I guess the encouraging thing is, you know, 110 loss to Great Lakes, 10 loss to Maranatha, 11 tied to Ozark, and then oh, 2 loss to Faith. So our defense has been playing pretty good. Yeah, I mean, if we think about the Tuesday night game against Faith, I mean, it was really two mental errors. You know, the defense didn't get back, didn't rotate fast enough and they got two goals. But other than that, I mean, you know, we've given up five goals in four games. Yeah, that's really good defense. That is really good defense.
[00:14:37] Speaker A: It is, it is. It's just now a capitalizing on offense.
[00:14:40] Speaker B: The issue is we've had one goal in five games.
[00:14:42] Speaker A: Yeah. You look at the possession count, I don't have the sheet, but I want to be surprised if it's at 50% with the this last game against Faith, if not more leaning towards Emmaus hold having more possession of the ball the entire game. And a lot of that on face side of the field, around the 18, around the goalie box, having opportunities, corner kicks, throw ins, and the team just not able to capitalize.
[00:15:06] Speaker B: They just have to capitalize on those moments.
[00:15:07] Speaker A: Of course, we have been dealing with. The team has been dealing with a lot of injuries this year. Caleb Hunter has been hurt with just, I mean, a lot of things, A lot of body aches. He has a bronchitis right now. And then Jake.
[00:15:19] Speaker B: Yeah, goal scorer out for two weeks, man.
[00:15:22] Speaker A: Jake, Matt is out for two weeks.
Definitely does not help.
So it was good to see Caleb come be able to play a little bit against Faith. I didn't think he was going to play, but I think he wanted it. He said, coach, play me, because I.
[00:15:36] Speaker B: Think he was the hardest worker out there.
[00:15:37] Speaker A: He's always is. He always is. But that's the thing is you'll see our guys hustle and, you know, go 100. But then that one moment, they just take a break, they take a breather and that's when a team capitalizes. And that's how Faith was able to have a beautiful cross right across the net. Nobody picks it up.
Player on the far, Faith player on the far end, the back post open. Nobody covering easy as a goalie because.
[00:16:04] Speaker B: Like, you're expecting help there and then no one's there at an open net.
[00:16:08] Speaker A: It's true. And the thing is, it's really tough for our goalie, you know, that not to. Not to put shade on anyone, you know, but Tucker Capis, second team all American, our first ever all American soccer All American. We have, we have Tucker Capus back there for soccer. A great goalie, a goalie you want any team would pick in our na in, in our region, in our conference.
[00:16:30] Speaker B: Number one in fantasy draft.
[00:16:32] Speaker A: He probably would. I mean, I mean this year is tough, but like. Right. You can't blame. You can't put the, the pressure on him. He's gonna, he's gonna capitalize. He's gonna be able to help us get through, you know, these victories. If our offense can play right again.
[00:16:49] Speaker B: He's just like. He's allowing in just under or just over one goal a game.
[00:16:53] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:16:54] Speaker B: That is. That puts us in winning positions.
[00:16:56] Speaker A: 100. Does it just.
[00:16:58] Speaker B: We haven't been able to most of these put the ball in the back on our side.
[00:17:01] Speaker A: And that's when you look at most of these goals. It's 1v1.
[00:17:03] Speaker B: He's like the Paul Skeins of.
[00:17:07] Speaker A: Tucker's going to be able to put ourselves, put our team in a position to win by. He's given us those opportunities by blocking majority of the shots taken on net. Of course, if you keep giving them those opportunities, if it is a 1v1, the ball is going in the back of the net no matter who is in that.
[00:17:27] Speaker B: Except he had a pretty crazy 1v1 save on Tuesday against.
[00:17:30] Speaker A: Oh, of course.
Because it's Tucker. Tucker, man. Come on.
[00:17:33] Speaker B: Tucker stopped like three go three penalty kicks.
[00:17:37] Speaker A: I'm interested to see some upcoming matches against Grace, but I'm you. I don't want to talk about being encouraged because it's. It's tough when we need to. We need to perform on offense.
[00:17:49] Speaker B: True. I mean, but it's encouraging from the defensive standpoint. Like we came. The defensive standpoint has been for the most part pretty good.
[00:17:56] Speaker A: But it's tough.
[00:17:57] Speaker B: It's the reverse Cowboys best offense, worst defense. It's like we have great defense. Our offense is just. Yeah.
[00:18:04] Speaker A: And it's not that we don't have the players. We have. The players do. It's just people get caught lacking and watching on the field. And I love, I feel like I'm more transparent with the soccer team than I am with the other sports. And you know, everything I, I say, I say to the guys. And the thing is we have a lot of talented players. I look at our roster, I'm like, we, we have, we have a little bit of depth. We have the players to put in.
[00:18:28] Speaker B: The guys players in the right positions too.
[00:18:30] Speaker A: It's true. And it's tough with Jake out.
[00:18:32] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:18:32] Speaker A: You know, you're not Going to see a lot of.
But if you want to talk about progress, we lost to faith 0 and 3. Now we lost to them. Oh, and 2.
[00:18:39] Speaker B: So next game will be 0 and 1.
[00:18:40] Speaker A: I think the game after that will be if.
Guys, I know, I know a lot of them are hungry. It's just. You look at the game, you see someone like Bennett who's, like, giving it all he's got, right?
And if I. If Bennett's my. If I'm in there and I'm playing alongside Bennett and I see Bennett give everything he has, I got reflect on myself, like, what am I doing? I remember Claudius coming up to me at the end of the game a few weeks ago. I think it might have been after Great Lakes and saying, you know, Shane, I.
The first half.
The first half, I didn't try as hard as I think I could. And I. I said to myself at halftime, I need to try harder. And the guy was, like, cloudiest. The guy was hustling first half, and I'm like, what are you talking about? Second half, he's like, I tried even twice as hard. I went like 200, and it wasn't good enough still. And it's just. It's. It kills you. It's like, man, to see these players want it so bad and not be able to capitalize. So we're still looking to. To get that win on this losing drought.
And, I mean, we'll just see what the team can do. They're meeting. They're meeting over lunches. They're meeting all the time with Coach McHugh. So they're scheming. They're trying to figure out what to do. And I'm.
We'll just see where it goes.
[00:19:54] Speaker B: And they just have to stick with it. Like, we saw it with volleyball. Like, they went through a even tougher stretch when it came to, you know, opponents, and, you know, they stuck with it as a team, and they've kind of come out of this valley. That's really. Right. Now with soccer, like, they have to stick together. They have to stick as a team. Yeah, losing. Losing stinks. Yeah, losing stinks for anyone.
[00:20:15] Speaker A: But if they're gonna lose now.
Yes, lose now, win late.
[00:20:19] Speaker B: But they have to keep pushing forward. They can't give up, because if you give up now, there goes. What do you. How are you going to compete the rest of the season?
[00:20:25] Speaker A: And I. I know they're. Everyone's telling them this. If not, you know, I am right now is. We have the talent.
[00:20:31] Speaker B: Yes.
[00:20:32] Speaker A: To. To win regions, regionals, we have the talent to win our conference. We have the talent to go to nationals. But it's now coming together and like you said, persevering through times like this.
[00:20:43] Speaker B: Because we lost the top two teams in the region 10 each time. Like we are right there.
[00:20:47] Speaker A: Like Maranatha is ranked. They're really good this year.
[00:20:50] Speaker B: Yeah. And Faith is ranked 6 like you guys. You guys are right there.
[00:20:55] Speaker A: Just keep pushing forward, keep pushing the opportunities.
They had so many opportunities to go up on Faith the other day. And it's just capitalizing, just capitalizing. So let's persevere. We'll see what the soccer guys do later in the season. But season's not over for anyone and.
[00:21:14] Speaker B: Over till it's over.
[00:21:14] Speaker A: And then speaking of that, you know, we have our cross country team.
[00:21:19] Speaker B: They are have some information from coach Girardi. They had one race. They had the. The ever fun Cedar Rapids race where lots of PRs have happened. But just want to recap and to read off Shane to you what coach Girardi said.
[00:21:35] Speaker A: Please do.
[00:21:36] Speaker B: He said it was a great day for the Eagles cross country teams as we traveled to Cedar Rapids, Iowa for the Seminole Valley Stampede. The men ran first with a couple of PRs that came with it.
I thought it was really cool because Christian PR by 30 seconds. He ran 30, 42. And then Nathan Bean PR'd him. And Caleb Ness, our pres. Student body president, finished one second apart.
[00:21:59] Speaker A: Oh, right next to each other.
[00:22:00] Speaker B: Right next to each other. I want to know. I wish there was a replay of that final stretch of. I wonder if it was like they were both going as fast as they.
[00:22:06] Speaker A: Can to beat each other 100%.
[00:22:08] Speaker B: So. Yeah. So shout out to Christian and shout out to Nathan for pr.
On the women's side.
We only had two runners, unfortunately, so just Riley and Anna and man, Riley was nine seconds off of competing, of qualifying for nationals.
[00:22:25] Speaker A: Yeah, nine seconds.
[00:22:26] Speaker B: They are in a 6K, by the way. And so there's some, you know, cross country has some sort of like mathematical calculate time calculator between what a 6k time would equal to a 5k. She was 9 seconds off qualifying.
[00:22:39] Speaker A: That's tough.
[00:22:40] Speaker B: I know it was. It stinks in. But she ran under 30, 30 minutes in the 6K which is pretty great for on the ladies side.
[00:22:47] Speaker A: It's really good.
[00:22:48] Speaker B: So yeah, just, you know, as they are continuing to compete and you know, the guys have already qualified. We've talked about that. And Anna's qualified on the women's side. So, you know, we have a Great opportunity when we host regionals for cross country for rally to get it. So hopefully everyone will be healthy and able to run that race.
[00:23:08] Speaker A: Yeah, no, they're still looking to have people rested this last game and some injuries, of course. And we'll look into, like you said, this upcoming race, which will be here.
[00:23:18] Speaker B: Super regional complex.
[00:23:20] Speaker A: Super regionals. Gonna be really fun. Last year, the team didn't perform to their standard.
[00:23:28] Speaker B: Guys finished second.
[00:23:29] Speaker A: Yeah. But you know. But then the guys. Guys finished second at regionals. Guys finished second in the nations at nationals. Yeah.
[00:23:36] Speaker B: Chris Crown won for only guy on the men's side at regionals.
[00:23:40] Speaker A: And then it was very close.
[00:23:41] Speaker B: So we run. We ran faster than them at nationals.
[00:23:44] Speaker A: Well, it was because of us another player on another team dropped out.
[00:23:47] Speaker B: He did.
[00:23:47] Speaker A: And since he dropped out, they shifted.
[00:23:50] Speaker B: The rankings on finishes. Which I find that interesting how it's.
[00:23:53] Speaker A: Like strange if it's.
[00:23:55] Speaker B: If you have five or more guys, men on your team, you know, the placements count.
But if you don't have five and you finish second, it doesn't count because for the team score, they bump up everyone's score. So it's. Yeah. This is kind of interesting.
[00:24:11] Speaker A: It's. It's weird. But I mean, you gotta race against it. I mean, the fastest runner wins.
[00:24:15] Speaker B: Yep.
[00:24:15] Speaker A: At the end of the day, let's go run faster. So look, really looking forward to volleyball or not volleyball, but cross country team.
[00:24:20] Speaker B: Cross.
[00:24:21] Speaker A: Volleyball, Crosswalk. Yeah, volleyball.
Yeah. Not much to report there other than what coach Gerardi said and that they're. They're always competing, they're always in it and seeing the guys continue to get better as they go. But honestly, highlight of the season is Riley.
[00:24:36] Speaker B: Yeah, shout out.
[00:24:37] Speaker A: Riley. Riley. Just killing of the season, really working hard in the off season. And honestly, just an example to all of our athletes here of like grow. Come on. Like, if you want it, if you want to go to nationals, if you want success on that level to, you know, it doesn't mean anything in eternity. But you can tell your grandkids, I want the national. I don't know, you know, but definitely helps the character, the discipline as a follower of Christ. But also just a good example to.
A good example to a walk of a Christian for sure. But to there are other athletes and being able to go make their season go.
Go longer would be just put in the effort, man. Put in the training and off season and run Forest run. We'll just see how volleyball and soccer responds to cross country success.
And I'm looking forward to seeing the Second half of the season come to a close.
[00:25:34] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:25:35] Speaker A: So it's gonna be exciting. We'll see what happens. And going into basketball season gonna be a great time. But we're. We're almost done here. But now for everyone's favorite moment of the podcast.
[00:25:47] Speaker B: What time is it, Shane?
[00:25:48] Speaker A: The fast break.
[00:25:49] Speaker B: Fast break. Time.
[00:25:52] Speaker A: To take a nap. So I thought I was doing something today, but Matt's got something.
[00:25:55] Speaker B: I do. Shane.
[00:25:56] Speaker A: So I'll save mine for now.
[00:25:57] Speaker B: All right, Shane.
[00:25:58] Speaker A: And I know everybody loves it when Shane. Shane.

[00:26:28] Speaker A: Oh, who watches Survivor?

[00:27:27] Speaker B: JJ Rowley. Final guess.
[00:27:28] Speaker A: Yes.
[00:27:29] Speaker B: All right, Shane, the person that tweeted that is in this room is it.
Shane Douglas tweeted it.
[00:27:36] Speaker A: That doesn't make sense at all.
[00:27:38] Speaker B: You tweeted it.
[00:27:39] Speaker A: When did I tweet that?
[00:27:42] Speaker B: A while ago. All right, Shane, next. Next up, tweet this. This staff or faculty member tweeted.
Every time I tweet, I try to go viral.
[00:27:51] Speaker A: I got a like on that. That one, though.
[00:27:52] Speaker B: Yeah, but this one only got three likes of the person that said every time I tweet, I try.
[00:27:57] Speaker A: That sounds like something I probably tweeted. So I'm gonna go with me.
[00:27:59] Speaker B: Yep. Shane.

Caleb Williams. Not impressed. Thumbs down sign.
And this came from a Bears fan.
[00:28:24] Speaker A: I know. I'm thinking. I was gonna say Eric Rasmussen, but rest in peace, right?
[00:28:29] Speaker B: Yeah. He's not staff or faculty anymore.
He left.
[00:28:32] Speaker A: Who's a Bears fan? On staff. On faculty. That.
Maybe Chris McHugh. He's a Bears fan.
Faculty, staff. Bears fan. There's. I mean, a lot of people are Bears.
Those are packers fans, man.
[00:28:51] Speaker B: You did say that name earlier in the podcast.

[00:30:49] Speaker B: Yep. It's a staff member, but.
[00:30:50] Speaker A: Oh, staff member. Is Reggie staff or is no faculty?
[00:30:54] Speaker B: He's both, but.
[00:30:55] Speaker A: No, this is staff member Landon. No, frick you. No, not me.
