[00:00:00] Speaker A: Our legendary topics haven't been legendary. She's been. Where's the breakout spots on. [00:00:06] Speaker B: That's fair, actually. Welcome, ladies and gentlemen, to the official Emmaus athletic podcast in the nest. I'm your co host, Shane Douglas here. [00:00:22] Speaker A: Hi, Shane. [00:00:23] Speaker B: As always, with my loyal partner in crime, brother in Christ, Matthew Thompson, the assistant men's basketball coach, as well as admissions counselor. [00:00:33] Speaker A: That's me. [00:00:33] Speaker B: I always give you a good introduction. I'm just Shane. [00:00:36] Speaker A: You're Shane. [00:00:37] Speaker B: Matt's a little under the weather today, so if he sounds off or he's not as talkative as he has been. [00:00:42] Speaker A: The past couple weeks because of the weekend results, it's because I'm actually. [00:00:47] Speaker B: So. Matt's been like chatty bird in here, just talking, talking so much. And then this week, he's not going to talk at all. I'm just joking. He saved up all his energy just. [00:01:01] Speaker A: For you guys today and for the game. [00:01:04] Speaker B: Yeah. So today we're going to be recapping a conference. Kind of a sad journey. Not what we went there for, for sure. [00:01:16] Speaker A: Some good things came from it. [00:01:18] Speaker B: Good things. A lot of good things did come from it. And then we're going to talk a little bit about regionals coming up. What that looks like with the NAA, maybe a little bit about what that means. I know we talked about the MCCC last week, but this week maybe we'll talk a little bit more about the NAA and then maybe some fun things towards the end if we have the time. But we will get there. We will get there. So let's talk about this, Matt, let's get right into it to let all the friends of the Mayus Bible college know. And again, first off, thank you guys for making us a part of your Thursday morning or whenever you are listening to us, if it's late at night like the Festlers do. Thank you. Andy kept Mary Ellen up, listening to our voices. Mary Ellen was like, I do not want know. Go to sleep. Listening to Matt and Shane's voices, it's not that soothing. Well, Mary Ellen, we're going to make it soothing for you today. I'm joking. So whenever you guys do listen to us with your family, on the car ride, in the living Room, wherever you maybe. Thank you. We appreciate your love, we appreciate your support. And share like it means a lot to us. It really does. Share the podcast like it. Subscribe, whatever it means to you. But with that said, let's get into it. Oh, yeah. Conference this weekend. We went in there as the men's basketball team and a women's basketball team ranked as. What was it again? [00:02:39] Speaker A: The men. We were ranked the 7th seed, and the women were ranked the 6th seed. [00:02:44] Speaker B: So there it is. And let's talk about it. Let's tell everyone the results of the weekend and how we finished. So we entered as the 7th as the men's, and we left as 6th. 6th. They were wrong. [00:02:54] Speaker A: Yeah, they did us wrong by one seat. [00:02:59] Speaker B: They got us wrong, ladies and gentlemen. [00:03:02] Speaker A: Then the girls entered the 6th. [00:03:04] Speaker B: Exited as the 6th. As the 6th. But still, a lot of their games were really close. And we'll talk about that right now. But let's talk about the men's game. We'll go over that since you are the assistant men's coach. Okay. I was so worried. [00:03:19] Speaker A: Yeah. So we entered the tournament as a 7th seed, playing the two seed Ozark, who eventually became the champions this year. [00:03:27] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:03:28] Speaker A: And it was our third time playing them, so we had lost by 20 both times we played them. And first half was pretty competitive. Yeah. [00:03:38] Speaker B: Boys came to play. [00:03:39] Speaker A: Yeah, they did. Came to play, and it was awesome. And then second half rolled around, and they kind of just turned up against us. It was like 9 minutes to go, and they were up 20. [00:03:50] Speaker B: They were up 20. [00:03:51] Speaker A: They were up 20. [00:03:51] Speaker B: Dang. [00:03:52] Speaker A: And then in about 6 minutes. So it was like, from ten until it went down to, like, 5 minutes to go. We brought it within six, and then they went on a twelve point run, and they went up 18 with 2 minutes and 41. [00:04:10] Speaker B: My goodness. Why does this happen? Right if we can make it that narrow? Okay, I'm sorry. I'm preaching to the choir. I already know this, but, I mean, speaking for the people who are listening to this episode of hearing this roller coaster of a game of how we were up, how we were tied, how it was a close game, and then we give up 1820 points. Just like that. [00:04:30] Speaker A: We were down 18 points. It was 80 to 62 with 2 minutes and 41 seconds to go. And then we proceeded to finish the game on a 20 to five run. We were down 82 to 85 with 7 seconds to go. [00:04:47] Speaker B: That's insane. Why'd you give him that five? Why'd you give him that five? [00:04:52] Speaker A: Yeah, right. It was ridiculous because. Yeah, we hit five threes in a row. [00:04:57] Speaker B: Insane. [00:04:58] Speaker A: Had an and one, made the free throw, stole the inbounds pass, got fouled, made two free throws. It was insane. It was like, if only it wasn't those last 3 minutes. If it was like the whole game, 36, 37 more minutes of that. But it was just really cool. [00:05:12] Speaker B: To see, like, okay, give the team one more minute. [00:05:14] Speaker A: Right. It got to a point where it was like 10 seconds to go, and they subbed in their entire starters, all their starters again. [00:05:21] Speaker B: Really? [00:05:21] Speaker A: We just went on that big. Yeah, that big push, like, yeah. In less than 3 minutes, it was 20 to five run. And so we ended up, unfortunately, we didn't finish it out. We didn't pull it out, but it was really cool just to see we had that there, especially with the week prior, how we had given up 310 plus point leads and lost. But then we were down 20 and then brought it back into a one possession game, which was really awesome. [00:05:50] Speaker B: No, that's very impressive. [00:05:51] Speaker A: Yeah, we end up losing, I think, 87 82. But, yeah, it was just super encouraging. Just like, hey, that can happen. That can happen to us. We can do that. [00:06:00] Speaker B: Yeah, I feel like you guys took that momentum into the next game. [00:06:04] Speaker A: And then the next game we played Calvary University, which we had split in the regular season, and holy moly, the guys just went ham shooting. I think we made 16 threes that game. [00:06:15] Speaker B: That's wild. [00:06:16] Speaker A: We ended up winning. Was it 102 to 97 or something like that? Which was our first 100 point game of the season, which was great. [00:06:25] Speaker B: Yeah, that's like good old Emmaus days. [00:06:28] Speaker A: It was like Nash had 30 and then, like, josh and Mitch both had 17, so those three had 64. And so, yeah, it was just like everyone contributed that game. It was awesome just to see that happen. And so then after we beat them, we end up going into the 6th place game, the fifth place game we played barkley, which we had slowed with them earlier. We had lost to them by 19 and we had beat them by 19. [00:06:55] Speaker B: So who knows? [00:06:56] Speaker A: It was a crazy game because that game, there was twelve lead changes and eight ties. [00:07:02] Speaker B: That's wild. [00:07:03] Speaker A: And they hit a game winning shot with 2 seconds to go. But it was just so encouraging. Like, you see how the last semester went, how this was that buzer be there? No, they made with 2 seconds to go. [00:07:15] Speaker B: What did you guys do with the last 2 seconds? [00:07:16] Speaker A: Nash had a half court shot. [00:07:18] Speaker B: Okay, was it close? [00:07:20] Speaker A: No, because they called a traveler because he stumbled the ball. But, like, the momentum we had of those three games of like, we were playing actually really good. And there was like, obviously anything can happen this week at regionals, but this is the perfect time that you need to be clicking on all cylinders. And I think we did a pretty good job of doing that this weekend. Obviously. Still lost twice, but lost by two and lost by five. [00:07:46] Speaker B: Yeah, I saw a lot of, compared. [00:07:48] Speaker A: To the rest of the season, was. [00:07:49] Speaker B: Given a lot of hope. [00:07:50] Speaker A: Yeah. Right. [00:07:51] Speaker B: And that's what you need going in a regional, and we got a tough region, and we'll get into that. But, I mean, you think about the Emmaus team a couple of years ago that you were a part of as. [00:07:58] Speaker A: A coach, very similar. [00:08:00] Speaker B: That went on a regional run just came out of nowhere. And the fact that you guys competed with Ozark, like one of the top. [00:08:08] Speaker A: Teams eventually in champions. [00:08:10] Speaker B: Yeah. Is super cool to see that. I'm sure everyone's pretty encouraged. All the guys are pretty encouraged. What do you say as a coach after, especially with some of these guys, it's their last conference tournament. What do you say? [00:08:27] Speaker A: I mean, you got to finish strong. You can't end on a low note. You can't end going down just giving up. You got to go down swinging. You got to play for one another and give ourselves a chance. I was in those shoes of many years ago of, oh, this is my last game. It's done, it's over, and it's like, you need to finish strong. You can't crawl to the finish line. You have to run through the finish line. And that's the biggest thing. [00:09:03] Speaker B: So we'll recap of the regionals next week as planned, and we'll definitely talk more about the last game of these seniors, the last game of these transfers, or whoever's leaving. And it's going to be sad. It's going to be really sad. But as we've been talking about a lot on the podcast, is you can learn a lot from what you take, from how you play and what you take on the court and to take it off the court. Hopefully, these guys have learned a lot, and I would be extremely surprised if they haven't learned anything from you or coach Parker, you guys, as your coach, trying not to, or even some of the leadership on the team. So really cool to see that. So let's talk about the girls real quick or not real quick, but let's talk about the girls. So they were their journey. [00:09:48] Speaker A: They came into the tournament playing faith, who they had split with this season so far, but it was the night game at faith because they were hosting. [00:09:57] Speaker B: Oh, that's always tough, right? [00:09:58] Speaker A: So, yeah, it was pretty close game through all three quarters, and then fourth quarter rolled around, and they were able to hit some tough shots, faith was, and they ended up pulling it out and winning by 14. [00:10:10] Speaker B: Okay. [00:10:11] Speaker A: It was what? 62, 48. So offensive struggles were still there again. And so then that bumped the girls into the fifth place game against Barkley. [00:10:23] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:10:25] Speaker A: And again, back and forth game the entire game. And then just right there at the end, Barkley hit two tough shots at the end of the game to win by five. [00:10:36] Speaker B: That's tough. [00:10:37] Speaker A: And so it's just like they were like, girls have been right there. This can't quite get there to pull it out. [00:10:44] Speaker B: And I would say that about both teams this year, for you listeners out there who might have not been watching a live stream or keeping up from stats or from Instagram or other social media networks, is every single game we're in. It seems like at least most of them. Right. So either on the Girls part or the guys, of course, there's like, sometimes the final score is, like, by 20, but the whole game does not reflect the final score. [00:11:08] Speaker A: It kind of reminds me of, like, my freshman year here at Emmaus. I think we lost ten games that year by six points or less. [00:11:15] Speaker B: See, that makes no sense. [00:11:16] Speaker A: And it's like, sometimes those can be more frustrating than losing by 20 because you're like, we're right there. [00:11:21] Speaker B: But, yeah, so that's pretty wild. So the girls, they lost the first game against Faith and the second one. [00:11:28] Speaker A: Against you said Barclay? Yes. And so Anna Harwood was honorable mention all conference. [00:11:34] Speaker B: Awesome. [00:11:34] Speaker A: And Hannah Boyer received second team all conference. [00:11:36] Speaker B: Okay. [00:11:37] Speaker A: And the guy's side, Nash Harper, received second team all conference. [00:11:41] Speaker B: Robbed. Just saying. I'm sorry for all you listeners. He got robbed. [00:11:45] Speaker A: He got robbed. [00:11:45] Speaker B: You know, just saying. I won't even go into it. I don't need to. If you watch him, if you know his role on our team and how he has had to step up this year, like, robbed. Just saying. [00:11:59] Speaker A: Just saying. [00:12:01] Speaker B: Okay. No, that's really cool. So we had two second honors and then one honorable mention, and I bet that's really awesome for all three of those athletes and really looking forward to it. So, this is Hannah's last year, and Anna's on their way out. They got some, which is awesome. They were mentioned, but the girls team, pretty encouraging. Would you say there's an encouraging trip of having some close games going into regionals? [00:12:27] Speaker A: I think so. But then also, it's right there, and you had a chance to win, and that can make it difficult, too, but, yeah, I think so. [00:12:35] Speaker B: I mean, when that's, like, the definition of an entire season, you had a chance. It's just like. [00:12:40] Speaker A: It's so. [00:12:41] Speaker B: I'm a Chargers fan, so I understand. Goodness gracious. And you know what's funny is the other week, we were talking about identity. I love it when we talk about sports. We always say we. If I'm talking about the Chargers, I'm like, we beat you. What have I given to the Chargers? I might have bought a t shirt. [00:13:06] Speaker A: They wouldn't have won if they had known I hadn't cheered. [00:13:08] Speaker B: Maybe all I have contributed to that team is buying, like, a $1020 t shirt. Right. [00:13:15] Speaker A: Besides your keyboard wearing, like, their stuff or something. [00:13:20] Speaker B: This is a cool analogy that I heard from a conference I went to this last weekend, 26 below, and the speaker, he was talking about this Stephen Harrell, and he was talking about how a lot of times we do associate ourselves with these teams, and we say we, and some on a bigger scale, like a professional, some on a smaller. With college, like we, as Emmaus, we say, oh, we lost, but we've given to this school, we've given money. We're working here. We're a part of it. You're the coach for the team, so it is a we. We're a part of it. But my fanhood with the Chargers, like we. Is it really only thing I've associated you to say? Exactly. I've only associated a $10 t shirt to them. And I'm saying we. And I think that's the same that goes back to our identity conversation a couple of weeks ago of there's a lot of us who say we when it comes to being christians, but have they not even, have they only given. [00:14:21] Speaker A: A $10 t shirt? [00:14:22] Speaker B: Are they wearing the $10 sheet t shirt saying we, or are they actually giving. [00:14:27] Speaker A: Are they actually living it out? [00:14:29] Speaker B: Living it out. [00:14:30] Speaker A: That's a good point. Yeah. [00:14:32] Speaker B: So kind of thinking about our athletes who are losing this year and thinking about the ones that we even have still on the teams, not even just in basketball, but all around and where their identity is. Is it a we? Is it a true we? Or are they just wearing the $10 t shirt? And I think that's just encouragement for you athletes out there. I just thought about this as we were just talking. But for you athletes, or even just believers out there, anyone who's listening is like, are you wearing that $10 t shirt? Are you saying that you are part of the family that you are generating and you are producing something for that team, for God's team? Or are you just wearing that $10. [00:15:10] Speaker A: T shirt going through the motions? [00:15:12] Speaker B: Yeah. So that's some good things to think about and encouragement to move forward. Really random, but just threw that in there. I think that's a good analogy, but let's go into some regional play. So we're kind of encouraged. The teams, I would say the teams, they know what they can do. [00:15:31] Speaker A: Yes. [00:15:32] Speaker B: The girls know that they are in reaching, that they're in reach of a win of any of these games that they play. And the men are the same, right? [00:15:43] Speaker A: Yes. [00:15:43] Speaker B: And goes back to that identity of the games that we do lose, the tough ones are we going to really allow to affect us? Because is this our life at the end of the day, or is it more than wins and losses? So moving forward to regionals, what's the mindset? What's going on? [00:16:00] Speaker A: Talk to us. Conference. And the biggest difference is conference, you're guaranteed two games. Regionals, you lose and go home. [00:16:09] Speaker B: Winner. Go home. [00:16:10] Speaker A: Win or go home. And so, I mean, it's just get out of the mindset of, okay, what's it going to be? [00:16:18] Speaker B: So for everyone who's listening, regionals and conferences, like we said last week, is different. So you have the MCCC conference, which is right there, and all this. That's its own thing. It's done. It's finished. Now we have the NACA regionals and now this, the regionals. The big one is a big one. So if you want to kind of thinking about it in college, maybe like. [00:16:40] Speaker A: The Big ten championship. [00:16:42] Speaker B: Big ten championship. Done. We know who won. Right. But that championship is, honestly, it can't really compare to the championship you can get from NACA. Right. So now regionals, is that stepping stone, right. It's the hurdle, in a way, of getting to nationals. So to get to nationals, you need to win your region, which can. How many teams? [00:17:08] Speaker A: There's six teams in our region. [00:17:09] Speaker B: So you got to win. You're not out against all six, but who you come across. So what is going to be one buy or two buys? [00:17:17] Speaker A: For guys, it's one buy, right. Or two buys. Top two buys. [00:17:22] Speaker B: Two teams have a buy. [00:17:24] Speaker A: For girls, there's five teams, so only one buy. [00:17:28] Speaker B: Okay, so we are playing Marinatha. [00:17:30] Speaker A: We were playing Marinatha, and we win. We play the one seed, Great Lakes. [00:17:34] Speaker B: Marinatha is a winnable game. It was a really tough game when they came on our home court the other week, man, that was heartbreaking. [00:17:40] Speaker A: A game that we led for 39 minutes. [00:17:42] Speaker B: Goodness gracious. [00:17:44] Speaker A: 58. [00:17:46] Speaker B: I can't with that game. [00:17:49] Speaker A: Third shot at them, which will be really good. We play them at. I think it's 06:00 p.m.. Tonight. [00:17:56] Speaker B: Thursday night. Tonight. [00:17:58] Speaker A: Tonight. [00:17:58] Speaker B: And if we win, who do we most likely play? [00:18:00] Speaker A: Number one seed, great Lakes. [00:18:02] Speaker B: Have we played them this season. [00:18:04] Speaker A: Yeah, we lost to them over Christmas. [00:18:06] Speaker B: Okay. Before Christmas, what was the final score? [00:18:09] Speaker A: It was like a lot too little. It was like a 30 something. [00:18:14] Speaker B: Don't say it. Don't say that word. [00:18:16] Speaker A: If you're curious, listening, just look it up yourself. Yeah. Then the girls play. I believe they play grace. And if they win from it for the winner, then would play Kuiper. I believe that's what it is, is Kuiper the I. That could be wrong, because I know that there were some errors in the power ratings on the girls side. And so they've been having to reshuffle the power ratings because they didn't account everything correctly. And so teams have been swapped in our regions, but I'm pretty sure they play grace. [00:18:46] Speaker B: So to explain a little more things, can you name the six teams in our region? So they just reshuffled regions this last year. So this is the first year of a new region. [00:19:00] Speaker A: Whatever, you know, college institute, Marinath, the Baptist University, Kuiper University, which is in Illinois, correct? No, they're in Michigan. They're in Michigan, Grace University, and Great Lakes Christian College. So all three are three in Michigan, one in Illinois, one Wisconsin, one Iowa. [00:19:18] Speaker B: All right. So that's our new region for all the sports. So men's basketball, women's basketball, cross country, soccer, volleyball, volleyball. So for whatever you exemeaus Eagles, you athletes out there that participated in the sports programs here, that's our region. Now. You probably don't know who Kuiper is. That is fine. They just started a new athletic program. [00:19:44] Speaker A: They restarted it. [00:19:45] Speaker B: Restarted it. [00:19:46] Speaker A: Not having it for 1015 years. [00:19:49] Speaker B: Familiar with great Lakes, but we never really played them. A lot familiar with Grace. We played them a couple of times. Very familiar with Marinatha and moody. Yes. So new family, new rivalries to be created. And looking forward to how we stand against them in basketball and where the Lord leads with that. And then, girls, we talked about the guys are playing Marinatha. Who are the women where you said, grace. [00:20:15] Speaker A: Grace. [00:20:15] Speaker B: Okay. And then if they beat Grace, they. [00:20:18] Speaker A: Play the one seed. Kuiper. [00:20:19] Speaker B: Kuiper. Okay. So that's going to be exciting. What are your thoughts? What's going on? What's the mindset for the men's going into? I mean, you can't really speak too much about the women's team, but we have an insight with you being the assistant coach. What's the thought? What's the encouragement? What's the galvanizing of the troops? [00:20:42] Speaker A: We have to win. Otherwise we're driving 8 hours back home. [00:20:48] Speaker B: Wait, who'd you say was hosting Great Lakes? [00:20:50] Speaker A: Yeah. Grace is hosting. [00:20:51] Speaker B: Grace. Okay. Yeah, man. Is there a gym? Nice. [00:20:55] Speaker A: Okay, this is funny. It is not, because when we walked. [00:21:00] Speaker B: In there, what if they're hearing this? What are you going to say to them? [00:21:03] Speaker A: I mean, it's. Honestly, their gym is the definition of facilities. Don't matter about championships, because you walk in there and it's a pretty small gym, and they will tell you it is a tiny gym, but it's just covered and coated in banners. [00:21:18] Speaker B: Really? [00:21:19] Speaker A: That's wild, right? [00:21:20] Speaker B: That's a wild. That's like Barclays gym or Calvary's is okay. [00:21:25] Speaker A: But it's really small. I was surprised. [00:21:27] Speaker B: Oh, wow. [00:21:28] Speaker A: Yeah. And it's just coded in championships. [00:21:30] Speaker B: That's wild. That's kind of cool, actually. That's kind of cool. [00:21:33] Speaker A: I, like, know, like, Coach Bailey, who's now the head coach at Kuiper, but when he was at Grace, they won either five or six national championships while he was there. [00:21:42] Speaker B: And then where's the head coach from? I know you said from Kuiper. You said because he was at Grace. [00:21:46] Speaker A: He was at Grace many years. [00:21:48] Speaker B: Okay, so do you think it's a little more like, what did you say about him? That he's like the. [00:21:55] Speaker A: Yeah. Of our level. Coach K. Oh, yeah. He is so good. [00:22:00] Speaker B: Yeah, I remember. Why did they come here? [00:22:05] Speaker A: They would come here for games. And he still talks about our milkshake stand in the Eagles nest. [00:22:11] Speaker B: Okay. [00:22:12] Speaker A: Wow. [00:22:13] Speaker B: We don't even have that anymore, man. We got to bring that back, right? Bring it back. Come on. Yeah. Okay. So, really looking forward to this weekend and what conference has or not conference, but regionals has to play, but winner go home. [00:22:27] Speaker A: So there's six regions, and one of them has already happened. The south has already played. They did four regions playing this week, and then the north region plays next week, so. Yeah. [00:22:37] Speaker B: Well, do you know who won the South? [00:22:39] Speaker A: Bob Jones did. [00:22:41] Speaker B: And then where's the championship? [00:22:43] Speaker A: It'll be in north central in Minneapolis. [00:22:46] Speaker B: Whoa. Wow. [00:22:47] Speaker A: That's where nationals is this year. [00:22:49] Speaker B: That's wild. [00:22:50] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:22:50] Speaker B: The girls is not a fun spring break trip. [00:22:52] Speaker A: Yeah. Who wants to go to Minneapolis for spring break? [00:22:55] Speaker B: That's all right, I guess, but, yeah. [00:22:57] Speaker A: Minneapolis for both men's and women's this year. [00:22:59] Speaker B: Okay. That's wild. [00:23:00] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:23:01] Speaker B: Okay. That's cool. And how do you get one of those? Biding or not bidding? Are there outliers bids still? [00:23:08] Speaker A: So how it works, there's six regional winners that get a bid, and then there's either two automatic bids or one automatic bid and the host bid. So if you host whichever school hosts nationals, they get the choice to accept the host bid and go to nationals. [00:23:24] Speaker B: And they accept the host bid. Then there's one bid that goes automatic bid, and usually that goes out to whoever has the highest power rating. [00:23:31] Speaker A: Basically, yes. [00:23:31] Speaker B: And do you know how you can explain a power rating? [00:23:34] Speaker A: No. [00:23:35] Speaker B: Okay. [00:23:35] Speaker A: There's some suplex, complicated formula that happens. Basically, it's like however many points you win by against a rated team versus how many points you lose by to a rated team. So if you play division three, division two teams, and AI teams, you have a higher rating scale than if you play just in the CCAA teams. And if you win by a certain number of points, you get more points. And, yeah, you can look it up on the website, but it's pretty complicated to explain. [00:24:04] Speaker B: I understood. [00:24:04] Speaker A: I don't even get it, but, yeah. [00:24:05] Speaker B: You'Re the math guy, too. [00:24:07] Speaker A: Yeah, I know, right? [00:24:07] Speaker B: I understood every single bit of that. [00:24:09] Speaker A: It's good for you. [00:24:10] Speaker B: So we'll see what's going on and what will happen. This play, originals. Maybe there's another Cinderella run. I remember when you guys went on that last year or not last year, but what, two years ago? It was awesome. That was so cool. [00:24:23] Speaker A: If you want to watch them, keep an eye out on our website for the stuff. But they live stream their games on their Facebook page. Grace does. [00:24:31] Speaker B: Grace does, yeah. So if anyone, which we recommend everyone out there that is available or just isn't doing, know, maybe they just think about it, go to Grace Christians University's athletics page. Yeah. [00:24:47] Speaker A: And their Facebook page, that is. [00:24:49] Speaker B: And then you can find it on. It's not on YouTube or just on Facebook. It's Facebook Live. [00:24:53] Speaker A: Facebook. [00:24:54] Speaker B: It's like Facebook Live? Yeah. [00:24:55] Speaker A: They still have the live stream. [00:24:57] Speaker B: That's wild. That's crazy. Yeah. [00:24:59] Speaker A: An iPad. [00:25:01] Speaker B: No. What? [00:25:03] Speaker A: So Facebook live. [00:25:05] Speaker B: Oh, my goodness. You might as well just FaceTime Matt. Honestly, I talked to him about that and he can just film it. You get a good sideline of you, too. Goodness. Okay, I was going to say something, but I forgot. Anything else to add about traction? [00:25:23] Speaker A: No. [00:25:24] Speaker B: Anything else about regionals or to explain it to? [00:25:27] Speaker A: It's always a great time, but it also stinks if you lose your first game. You have to drive all the way home. [00:25:32] Speaker B: But what time do we play? [00:25:33] Speaker A: The men's 06:00 p.m. Six is a men's 03:00 p.m. Is that eastern or central? I believe it's four and seven eastern. Are you sure? Six central. [00:25:44] Speaker B: Is it central? [00:25:45] Speaker A: Yes. [00:25:45] Speaker B: Okay. [00:25:46] Speaker A: And then they are in eastern times. When's the women's at three central? [00:25:50] Speaker B: Okay, so remember that 06:00 p.m.. P. M. For men's and 03:00 p.m. For women's. [00:25:56] Speaker A: Yes. [00:25:57] Speaker B: Stay tuned. Find them on the Facebook page, and maybe even the Emmaus athletics might post a link as well. So just stay in touch and show the women's team and the men's team some encouragement and show your eagle press some love. But with that said, we have a couple of minutes. You're dead inside, man. [00:26:22] Speaker A: A couple of minutes? Yes. [00:26:25] Speaker B: What? We're going to do a top five segment. It won't be a top five. It'll be more like a top three and kind of shuffled around. We're going to talk about some legendary spots on campus. What does that mean? I don't know, really, Matt? Matt's kind of confused about it, but legendary spots on campus are like, what that means. So, for example, I'll start. And these are for you listeners who know what I'm talking about. [00:26:52] Speaker A: You'll love it. [00:26:54] Speaker B: Yeah. If you don't know, come and find out. Or for some of them, you don't want to experience it. And that's this one right here is the mezzanine. So the mezzanine has been known as the breakup spot on campus. So the mezzanine has an old awana. [00:27:09] Speaker A: Circle, oversees the gymnasium, oversees the gym. [00:27:12] Speaker B: Usually used for a lot of family and alum. Some events that we have throughout the year when it comes to athletics or et cetera, advancement uses it here, but a lot of kids run around. And other than that, it's just an empty space, but the perfect space to break up with your significant other after a day of dating. [00:27:32] Speaker A: It's funny, we're having this conversation the other day on the van ride, and I was saying, like, that was the spot. And everyone's like, weird. That's not the spot anymore. [00:27:41] Speaker B: What's the spot now? [00:27:42] Speaker A: No idea. But I'm like, that happened all the time when we were students, but it's a legend. [00:27:46] Speaker B: So there is my freshman year in 2016, there were three couples that were broken up there in a matter of. I think it was a month. It was in one month, three couples were all broken up there. And then throughout the whole year, there was about, like, they tripled that number. Pretty much everyone. The guys I knew, which was pretty much the entire campus, were all pretty much broken up with in the mezzanine. The thing is, it's just like that one month where, like, three guys were broken up there just became legend, and it was everyone's like, you can't go. Don't go. She has to go to the mezzanine. Never go there. And I remember one of my budies he was getting broken up with. And from a girl over text. Do we have, like, an ooh to the eagle? Just don't do it. No, thank you, Will. And he texts her. He's like, can we actually finish this conversation in mezzanine for the meme? So this is wild. No, she did not like that. Which she just continued to say, no, it's over. But, yeah. So mezzanine, that's a legendary spot on campus. What else are you at? [00:28:52] Speaker A: All right, so it's kind of in two parts because it's kind of same area, but obviously the coffee bean, that's the legendary hangout spot on campus. But also it's right down the hallway from the lower commons, which is always the DTR spot on campus, where it was always, like, whenever couples were having the important conversations determine the relationship. DTR, it was always the loudest spot because everyone was, like, looking down the hallway, like, whoa, hey, can you get down over there? We don't want to hear about you crying every 10 seconds, because I just. [00:29:25] Speaker B: Know you're the right person. [00:29:27] Speaker A: But stuff like that. [00:29:27] Speaker B: God told me in a dream. [00:29:29] Speaker A: In a dream. So I'd say, like, that hallway between. It's the coffee bean, the hallway with all the mailboxes, and then the lower comments. Yeah. [00:29:39] Speaker B: I feel like the upper commons has also adopted that. In the later years, I've seen a lot more in the upper commons and lower. The lower used to have the l. The l shaped like furniture, but now it's just a line, so it's not as useful to. Maybe it is good for the ones who don't want to make eye contact. They can just stare at a wall across the hall. But the one upstairs has, like, a little u. So I've seen some people break up there, and it's been very awkward, especially when I was working at kitchen. [00:30:08] Speaker A: Our legendary topics haven't been legendary. It's just been, where's the breakup spot? [00:30:14] Speaker B: That's fair, actually. Okay, well, let's turn it around. Another not breakup spot, but a legendary one. This still goes with the same theme, but just to ease it a little bit, I would say, like, the dishroom. [00:30:29] Speaker A: The dish. [00:30:29] Speaker B: I think the dishroom is a legendary spot for the reasons of bringing people together. [00:30:33] Speaker A: The amount of people that met their spouse in the dishroom or in the kitchen. Yeah, I think it's crazy. [00:30:39] Speaker B: It is wild. It is. I found my future wife in the. [00:30:42] Speaker A: Kitchen, so that's great. [00:30:43] Speaker B: And then her parents actually met in the kitchen. And then I think of, like, Danny Johnson, alum. Like, him and his wife met in the kitchen. You have so many. [00:30:54] Speaker A: Spencer proposed to Isabel in the kitchen, where they met for the first time. [00:30:58] Speaker B: Yeah, they proposed there. They met in the dishroom. But then also think about all the friendships you make, like, in the dishroom, because usually you always get put on a shift with some random people. And I think about Ben and Eric, Jason shout out to them. They would have the funnest time in the dishroom, like, stacking up things to the ceiling. And just like, all the friendships that people have made in that dishroom of either having spontaneous water together or something like that, even though it's just like. It's a super hot space on campus, especially in the summer or springtime, and it just sucks kind sometimes. But you can have fun if you got the right. [00:31:37] Speaker A: Who really wants to clean dishes? Because sometimes that's a ministry in itself, but when you're there with five or six friends, you have a good time doing it. [00:31:46] Speaker B: What's another legendary spot? We got the. [00:31:50] Speaker A: Well, there's always the pathway around campus. [00:31:54] Speaker B: We're thinking about legendary. What about the tunnels? What about the tunnel? [00:31:57] Speaker A: Tunnels. Except when everyone gets in trouble, it's. [00:31:59] Speaker B: Always cool to tell people that we have tunnels, and they're like, what, Harry Potter? [00:32:03] Speaker A: Harry Potter chamber of secrets. Yes. That's at the bell tower. [00:32:06] Speaker B: Bell tower. [00:32:07] Speaker A: Why bell tower? Just because it's really cool. [00:32:09] Speaker B: Okay. [00:32:09] Speaker A: And the time, like, there have been times where I know maintenance has taken people up there to help to show stuff, but it's just really cool seeing all the stairwells in the bell tower and everything. [00:32:19] Speaker B: Have you ever given a tour? This is a good question. Have you ever given tour, being an admissions counselor for, like, 20 years, have you ever given a tour where you come across, like, Nick or Jeremy, the maintenance men, having the tunnels open or the roof access open and taken a tour person? I have not a guest out there, no. Would you? [00:32:39] Speaker A: Probably not. For safety reasons. [00:32:44] Speaker B: Would you? No, I have not either. I have not either. I just wonder. That'd be a fun story. But, yeah, bell tower and everything. Will, you said that you have something. [00:32:57] Speaker A: Like a legendary spot. [00:32:59] Speaker B: Yeah, legendary spot. [00:33:00] Speaker A: I was thinking about the racquetball courts. [00:33:02] Speaker B: What about that? See, the racquetball courts are weird. I always hear people singing in there. It sounds really creepy. [00:33:09] Speaker A: Yeah, my sister likes to do that. [00:33:10] Speaker B: Okay. Yeah, that's great. [00:33:11] Speaker A: So you called your sister creepy? Oh, dang, that's tough. Well, I mean, no, she just likes to sing down there. Will Cunningham called. Cunningham? [00:33:19] Speaker B: What's the legend? What's the legend? You want me to tell it? Yeah, sure. [00:33:22] Speaker A: I don't know if I know everything. [00:33:24] Speaker B: Okay, well, you brought it up. [00:33:26] Speaker A: Give the three sentence description of it. Well, what I know about it is that when Emmaus used to be, like a monastery or whatever monks used to live. So before it was Emmaus. Yeah, before it was Emmaus, would you. [00:33:39] Speaker B: Say Emmaus was a monastery? Back off, man. [00:33:42] Speaker A: Don't. Come on. Know your history. Before it was a catholic monastery, this. [00:33:48] Speaker B: Building, I think it was a seminary, actually. [00:33:49] Speaker A: It was a seminary? Yeah, something like that. And the racquetball courts was like, where they'd put demon possessed people and then they'd exercise them down there. That's crazy. To clarify, that was not Emmaus, as Will said. This was before Emmaus purchased this building. That's just what I've heard. I don't even remember who I heard it from, but I've heard that. [00:34:10] Speaker B: I've heard that, too. I wonder if that's true or not. [00:34:13] Speaker A: But that's why I don't know. [00:34:15] Speaker B: I mean, knowing hearing some stories of what this place used to be like when it was the catholic seminary is kind of wild. Some wild stuff. So there's always some. [00:34:25] Speaker A: Cool. On that note. [00:34:28] Speaker B: Thank you, Will. On that note, there's so many wild spots on campuses or on this campus, especially when we first moved in 83, 84, they still had fake bones buried around campus of the saints that you can go to and pray for specific things. [00:34:49] Speaker A: That's crazy. [00:34:50] Speaker B: And then some of the students went around and dug them up and removed them. Yeah. Not because they did it for fun. They were just like, who could find all the bones? So there's just like some wild stuff. So encouragement to the students, encouragement to the alum or anyone. Reach out, share some stories. Good, appropriate ones. Please. Goodness gracious, please. Yeah, like, we're adults here. Come on. But also. Yeah, there's a lot of fun stuff that has happened throughout the years. [00:35:19] Speaker A: Good memories. [00:35:19] Speaker B: Either people exploring the tunnels on the golf course or the tunnels here at Emmaus. And maybe someone knows if they go and they connect to the Catholic, the nunnery. So we have. Police officers have driven on campus to ask if that legend is true. That's a debuke legend. [00:35:38] Speaker A: That's hilarious. [00:35:39] Speaker B: So lots of cool stories, lots of cool things of lore that has happened here at Emma. So shout out to you alum for those stories. Please give them to us. But also, thank you for what you did to create the real book for us this year and for all of our years. It's because of you guys that we have all these rules. But with that said, we just want to thank you guys. Reach out with your stories, reach out with other fun spots on campus. And again, thank you for listening. Thank you for supporting us and support the men's team, the women's team this weekend, today, Thursday, as they go out and compete in regionals, especially the men's team when it comes to playing against Marinatha. And that's just because it's Marinatha. Not because it's men's team, but just Marinatha. But with that said, thank you everyone for listening. We appreciate you guys like subscribe share concerning him we just had one of Mike Eel's drop, which is a really great episode, so we encourage you guys to go listen to that. But with that said, tune in every weekly, every week to see us on Thursdays. And Matt, what kind of day is it? [00:36:54] Speaker A: Well, it's a Thursday, but it's a great day to be an eagle. [00:36:57] Speaker B: Have a great day.
