[00:00:00] Speaker A: Foreign. And welcome back to in the Nest, your front row seat to Emmaus Athletics. I'm your co host Matthew Tomlinson joined by my other co host Shane Douglas. [00:00:18] Speaker B: I am your other co host Shane Douglas. [00:00:20] Speaker A: Hi other co host Shane Douglas. [00:00:21] Speaker B: Great to be here today, man. Yes, sir. I don't know if you guys have noticed but, but Matt's wearing, he's trying out a new outfit. [00:00:30] Speaker A: I like this outfit. [00:00:31] Speaker B: What's it about, buddy? [00:00:31] Speaker A: I wore in a while. Well, Shane, here you go. Oh, let's go. Lady volleyball regional champion. [00:00:41] Speaker B: Hey, hey, hey hey hey hey, hey, hey, hey, hey. Wow. [00:00:47] Speaker A: Well, cats out the bag, Shane May volleyball for the first time ever, the Midwest regional volleyball champions. [00:00:55] Speaker B: Wow, you lost your voice on this. [00:00:56] Speaker A: Oh, dude. It's been the weekend of basketball games going crazy, dude. [00:01:00] Speaker B: Well that's the highlight, guys. That's the big news. I mean why, why sugarcoat it? Why talk about like what's going on in life and just get straight into business? Women's volleyball team, congratulations. You are the Midwest regional champions. [00:01:19] Speaker A: Shout out to the ladies. They pulled it off. They finished the race and won regionals. [00:01:24] Speaker B: Well deserved. Well deserved. [00:01:26] Speaker A: So exciting. For the first time since 2022, an Emmaus non cross country team is going to nationals. [00:01:34] Speaker B: That's awesome. Yeah, that's awesome. I mean cross country is just filled with dogs and we'll get to them in a second. But an amazing game. Amazing game. I was at a, I was at a conference actually over the weekend. Admissions conference for Emmaus cmml. Shout out to CMML and they had an annual conference, Fall annual. And it was at the conference where I was on eastern time. They played Easter time. I'm like, what time is it? Someone's talking about something important and I'm like, I pull up my phone, go to the game and just watch the last set. It is awesome. [00:02:10] Speaker A: It was bittersweet, Shane. It was great with losing to Grace last year in the regional championship but having that, you know, in a sense revenge this year and finishing the job this year and beating them on their home court, which was pretty sweet. [00:02:23] Speaker B: Well, that's the thing. That's. Yeah, exactly. Very sweet. Get a revenge against Grace. But we love Grace. Grace is a great team, coached by great coaches, great players. So we respect them dearly. But it was, it was really cool to get a revenge, get revenge on the upset from last year on their, on Grace's home court. Pretty cool. Shout out to Grace. Uh, they had both their women's team and men's team go to the championship, uh, for and Both the basketball teams. [00:02:50] Speaker A: Were at Emmaus this weekend too. [00:02:51] Speaker B: So the Graces men's soccer team ended up winning the region and they're now they're going to nationals. But the women's team couldn't get past us and it was great. So just really exciting, honestly, just so exciting. So well deserved for the coaches, our players and everybody who's been involved. The you parents out there, fans, the. [00:03:12] Speaker A: Parent support that was at the game was awesome. There was so many there. Great. [00:03:17] Speaker B: I mean this team has been growing. It has had a complete rebrand if you could say since Coach Pittman passed a torch to Coach Hannah. And Coach Hannah has made it her own with the help of many people, Megan Bailey especially and just really cool to see see the fruit of their labor. [00:03:41] Speaker A: I mean this blueprint that they have is literally what know, build it a program is. I mean from the first year when not many girls ladies on the team or 0 and 16 to you know, fast forward to three years later, regional champions, just awesome. How cool is that? [00:03:55] Speaker B: But exact. I mean sometimes you never get to see the fruit of your labor. Right. Especially in ministry and things. [00:04:02] Speaker A: Right. Yeah. [00:04:03] Speaker B: I know many people overseas who they, they, they just, they're the they. They look at themselves as a foundation stepping stones, stepping blocks to the next person, the next person. And we say that about ourselves here at EMAS is we're, we're working for the future generations. We're working for them as their students today as there's going to be people who will take our position someday as well. And we're working for that. And it's just really cool that Coach Hannah can see that fruit of, of what she has put into, into this program, the, the women she has poured into, discipled mentor. All the driving, all the visits, all the, all the dinners, the lunches, all. [00:04:40] Speaker A: The late hours film studying everything as. [00:04:43] Speaker B: A mother, as a wife, as a follower of Christ involved in a church. Just super cool to see Coach Hannah, Coach Megan and everybody just what they. [00:04:54] Speaker A: Were able to accomplish, you know, reaping that what that they've been sewing these past few years, which is really cool. But yeah, recapping the Midwest regional tournament, so we came in as the 1 seed. We played Kuiper because they won their playing game. Beat Kuiper 3 0. That was first time we played them all season. So really good match to go to the championship game. This was on last Friday and then Saturday the rematch against Grace winning three sets to one. Shane Caitlyn Ran had 19 kills in that match. And so just really cool to see. Yes. Like we talked about them finishing the race at regionals, but the job's not over. [00:05:35] Speaker B: Job's not finished, guys. [00:05:36] Speaker A: Not over. Super exciting. Before we talk a little bit about nationals, we'll talk more about it. Just want to recap. Actually they'll be playing but they'll be playing after the episode is recorded. So that's true. Salah, Michelle and Jennica all received first team all region. So good job to those three. Caitlyn got second team all region. Good job, Caitlyn. And then Brooke got honorable mention. So good job, Brooke. Shout out, but coach Hannah for the third straight year, regional coach of the year. [00:06:06] Speaker B: That's awesome. [00:06:07] Speaker A: Shout out to coach Hannah, man. So with the win of regionals, we go into the national tournament, Shane as this number seven seed, which is super exciting. So how it works for volleyball is they have eight teams that make it and then they divide into two pools. So we are on Arlington Baptist, Pensacola Christian and Alice Lloyd's side. So Pensacola or Arlington Baptist being the 2 seed, we will play them on this upcoming Wednesday at 3:30pm and then the next day on Thursday we'll be playing Pensacola Christian at 11:30am and then Alice Lloyd at 7:30pm and so we play three pool games and then the top two seeds from the pool go on to the semifinals. So the number one seed on our or the number one seed coming out pool play will play the number two seed for the other pool. And the number two seed in our pool play will play the number one seed on their pool. So super exciting for our Emmaus women's volleyball team to be back for the first time since 2018. Just what a great time. You're trying to fact check me over there, aren't you? [00:07:16] Speaker B: Oh, no, I was just gonna list the. You didn't list. Did you list all the teams? [00:07:19] Speaker A: Not all the teams I didn't like. You want to list it? [00:07:21] Speaker B: Yeah. So all the teams that we will be possibly seeing at conference or not conferences, but nationals. Oh, man. It's just. It's not nationals, not regionals. It's or it's not conference. [00:07:31] Speaker A: It's not regionals, it's nationals. [00:07:33] Speaker B: Here we go. Manhattan Christian College finished number one. That is a MCCC school. Arlington Baptist, which is in our pool. Finish that two. Pensacola Christian at three. Also in our pool, Bob Jones University at four. They're going to be in the other pool. Faith Baptist College is going to be MCCC represents another McCarthy, Alice Lloyd College in our pool. Emmaus University. That's us. And Then Ozark Christian took the host bid. [00:08:02] Speaker A: They are also in the mcc. [00:08:04] Speaker B: Also MCC host bid. [00:08:05] Speaker A: And Arlington in our pool is the defending national champions. [00:08:09] Speaker B: Yes. And that's. That is. That's. They're the 2 seed. It's. Everyone's going into this tournament. 0000 for sure. But I. The mindset in this tournament is definitely Arlington or Maranatha. [00:08:25] Speaker A: Manhattan. [00:08:25] Speaker B: Manhattan. My gosh. I get those. We're playing Maranatha. [00:08:28] Speaker A: We are playing. [00:08:28] Speaker B: But anyways not in the tournament in basketball. But who's going to win? Manhattan or Arlington? And we can't. Let's not go in. Have that mindset. Yes. Playing inside. [00:08:41] Speaker A: Let's go in there and someone else defending. [00:08:43] Speaker B: Defending Chance. [00:08:44] Speaker A: But which we get to play opening night. Dude. [00:08:46] Speaker B: That's going to be crazy. Right? Why not rip the band aid off? Let's go. Come on. Take it away Cinderella baby. [00:08:51] Speaker A: Let's go. [00:08:52] Speaker B: This team can something. This team can definitely make an impact. [00:08:56] Speaker A: And we've seen that this season. [00:08:58] Speaker B: Manhattan is the favorite. Manhattan has dominated all year. [00:09:03] Speaker A: One loss going into the. [00:09:04] Speaker B: Yeah. Who they. Do you know who they lost to? [00:09:06] Speaker A: It was some NAIA program. [00:09:07] Speaker B: Yeah. Dude. Manhattan is. Has been dominating. This is their revenge tour. And. And they. They deserve their flowers. They're a great great team. But it's. It's just you know who. Who's gonna bring it? [00:09:20] Speaker A: Who's gonna bring it? [00:09:21] Speaker B: Who's gonna bring it? [00:09:21] Speaker A: Ready? Who's gonna step up to the challenge? [00:09:23] Speaker B: So I. I'm happy that our women were able to finish strong through. Finish through. Not finish but finish through regionals and take it into national. So we'll be able to see what they were able to accomplish. We know we got. Oh we got a traveling fan base. We know you're out there and you guys are the greatest. [00:09:39] Speaker A: The greatest goodness. [00:09:40] Speaker B: Really the best fans is the women's volleyball fans. [00:09:43] Speaker A: Yep. [00:09:43] Speaker B: Right. And if. If you are basketball fan, soccer fan. Step it up. Get the other parents involved. Like cuz these fans travel across these fans, these fans, these parents, these supporters. They travel and you see what they were able to accomplish with that. So thank you guys for not just listening to this show but supporting our women Eagle. Our women Eagles volleyball team. Just incredible. I like that. [00:10:07] Speaker A: Women Eagles. [00:10:08] Speaker B: Women Eagles. [00:10:09] Speaker A: Women Eagles. [00:10:10] Speaker B: Eagle. [00:10:10] Speaker A: Women Eagle. Women. [00:10:12] Speaker B: I don't know. [00:10:12] Speaker A: But yes. Shout out to the women's volleyball team. What a great, exciting, fantastic accomplishment man. [00:10:18] Speaker B: Super cool. Very cool. [00:10:20] Speaker A: Switching gears a little. Shane. Soccer. I'm holding on. Oh why would you put it right here? Okay. [00:10:28] Speaker B: Shane. [00:10:29] Speaker A: You really want to hold it. Don't you. [00:10:30] Speaker B: No, no, no. [00:10:31] Speaker A: I'm like. But back. Anyway, back to soccer. Well, that's actually funny. There's a picture of us like the girls celebrating and Brooke Hodges is holding it upside down. [00:10:39] Speaker B: Actually. [00:10:40] Speaker A: It was really funny. [00:10:40] Speaker B: I love that. [00:10:41] Speaker A: Yeah. Looking at soccer. Soccer came in as the underdog, the bottom seed in the tournament playing the one seed Grace. [00:10:48] Speaker B: Yes. [00:10:50] Speaker A: But super encouraging. They probably played the best game of the entire season with. [00:10:56] Speaker B: With two players out. [00:10:57] Speaker A: With two players out. Which was pretty incredible. You know, it was two. Two going into the 82nd minute, which was pretty incredible. Yeah. For missing two starters. Really cloud. Claudius had this amazing goal. [00:11:11] Speaker B: Oh my gosh. Maybe I gotta. [00:11:12] Speaker A: We got. [00:11:13] Speaker B: We have the video. [00:11:14] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:11:14] Speaker B: Like we'll. We'll give it. We're gonna put it up. I think we can. If not, then here it is. Put it up. Will. Will, you can put up. Okay. Will's gonna get it. [00:11:21] Speaker A: He's gonna put it. What an incredible shot by Claudius is bending it over into the upper 90. Over the goalkeeper. [00:11:27] Speaker B: Crazy. Really cool. [00:11:28] Speaker A: But yeah, two, two tied going in the 82nd minute. And then we got called for a. The guy say a controversial handball call with the ball hit Ben's shoulder. But the ref called a handball in the box and Tucker had already saved a PK earlier in the game. Grace was awarded a PK and they ended up scoring which eventually led to the game winning goal and thus ending our season. But I was talking to the Kreiners and they were just saying that it was. It was the. They've seen all. They've watched all the games this year and that was the best game that our guys fought. They. They didn't give up, which we were encouraging them last week that you know, we want to go out there and end someone's season and to continue playing hard and fighting for it. And boy, did they do that. It just came up just a tad bit short. [00:12:13] Speaker B: It's true. And what we've been saying all year, Matt, is this team has the, the talent, they have the skill. They might not have the experience quite yet. And I think that's what really hurt them majority of the season. And I think with a lot of losses back to back to back, it really. It really hurt the mentality of the team going into the conference regionals, etc. But yeah, it's. It. It's sad the season's over with for soccer, but we're excited that they finished strong and they, and they, they proved what we've been saying all season, that these guys have the capability to play a strong season, play a strong game and compete at a high level against the best. And Grace went on to win regionals for men's soccer and they're going to nationals fourth year in a row for Grace men's soccer team. So those, those seniors, they've seen it every year. They've seen that success. So. Which is really cool. But if you're a soccer player and you want to be a part of a program, be part of foundation just like those seniors had when they went there as freshmen and what they were able to grow as freshmen and continue that to their senior year. Come to Emmaus. Come to Emmaus if you want that. That, that Biblically, the biblical centered education where you can also play a fun. [00:13:23] Speaker A: Sport of soccer and compete at a high level. [00:13:25] Speaker B: Compete at a high level. Create a foundation for athletics program here. Yep. For men's soccer, we'd love to have you, but good season. We'll see. We'll see what happens next year. There's a lot of recruits in the funnel for soccer and I know Coach McHugh is excited and he's looking for some more help as well. So we're. [00:13:41] Speaker A: We're excited. Looking at some awards. Jake, Matt and James Stoddinger received first team all region. Shout out to James. Man. Shout out to James. [00:13:49] Speaker B: We saw Jake's award coming for sure. J. Being one of the best players in our. In our region, in our conference. Definitely. But James had a great season coming. [00:13:59] Speaker A: Off a pretty serious knee injury from last season. [00:14:02] Speaker B: Yes. [00:14:02] Speaker A: Too. So big shout out to him on his rehab and man, he showed out this year. [00:14:06] Speaker B: Really showed out. Coaches were very impressed with James. They're telling McHugh. McHugh told us is James was just. He was a. He was a number circled going into the matchups against the regional teams and conference and coaches were very impressed with his play. He. He gave 100 effort and everything he did. He made a lot of great runs even though he wasn't a forward. Right. [00:14:28] Speaker A: Right. [00:14:29] Speaker B: But it's just. We need. It's just things just collapsed on offense and I think that's. There's no shot on anybody. It's just what happened. So. [00:14:37] Speaker A: Right is what it is. And then Tucker received second team all region. So. [00:14:42] Speaker B: Yep. [00:14:42] Speaker A: Good job to Tucker. And so yes, your Emmaus men soccer team finishes. Finishes the season at 3, 11 and 3. So tough the jobs three times. [00:14:53] Speaker B: Three ties. [00:14:53] Speaker A: Three ties as wild. I think we've had three ties since. [00:14:56] Speaker B: Oh, man. Those three ties could easily be wins. [00:14:58] Speaker A: They could be. [00:14:59] Speaker B: And that changes a lot of seating. [00:15:00] Speaker A: So excited for this off season. Like Shane said, just seeing the work they're going to put in and on to next year. On to 2026 soccer. [00:15:07] Speaker B: They had a meeting this week about preseason off season, what it's going to look like, what the coaches want the players to to do outside of team functioned events and let's see if the team wants it. They want to actually put an effort and grow in discipline that's going to carry them into their Christian walk and their life. Then I hope to see them in the weight room. Hope to see them really growing their practicing their craft and wanting it, showing that desire and that's what you want, that's what you want to see as a coach. That's what we want to see as supporters. So be praying for the team and congratulate them when you they when you see them. For us, a good year, a good growing year. [00:15:44] Speaker A: Yes. Speaking of praying for the team, Shane, cross country is headed to the national championship race. Let's go. [00:15:53] Speaker B: There we go again. [00:15:54] Speaker A: There we go. So they left yesterday on Wednesday and they race tomorrow. Friday the men compete at 9:45 in the morning followed by the Division 1 women's team and then our women's team runs at 11:30am so keep an eye out. They should have the, the live tracking or like the live results. So super excited for cross country with you know our men's team qualified as a team so all of our men's runners get to go there and represent and all three of our women's runners compete are qualified and so they all three get to run on the women's side of things. [00:16:36] Speaker B: So yep, right now finishing her senior year here so good job and I'm looking to crack in the top 10. [00:16:41] Speaker A: Maybe she was close last year. [00:16:43] Speaker B: Very close. A lot close a lot last couple years but so yeah, hoping Anna can bring home a successful race, a race where she is proud of and same with Riley and Lily. So individually qualifying itself because you want to go as a team. [00:17:00] Speaker A: You're right. [00:17:02] Speaker B: So but we had some injuries and some other stuff going on that led to only three our women's team not qualifying and only three of our women but men's team qualified so looking for them to finish strong. [00:17:11] Speaker A: The guys are sitting with the sixth fastest time. [00:17:13] Speaker B: Yeah they are. They've been, they've been racing very well given we lost a lot of our top runners last year but Caleb and Christian have been uh, killing it this year. Uh, Nathan Bean with a great shout out to Bean at Regionals. [00:17:27] Speaker A: Yes. [00:17:28] Speaker B: Finishing first out of the. The men runners. The men's runners for Emmaus. So Nathan Bean coming up. So. And then we have Daniel. [00:17:38] Speaker A: Let's go, Daniel. [00:17:39] Speaker B: So Daniel stepping up as well. So we'll see what the. The team is able to do at regionals for men's. And you said six best. [00:17:46] Speaker A: Yep, six best. [00:17:47] Speaker B: All right. Well, we finished second last year. Maybe we can jump up there. [00:17:50] Speaker A: It's crazy as Daniel got called into jury duty really. But because he's not up there currently as a student. [00:17:57] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:17:57] Speaker A: He was able to get out of it to go to the national race. He was telling me about it yesterday. [00:18:01] Speaker B: My wife Rosie got called into jury duty on Monday. Really? She. Well in December, but she's trying to get out of it as well. We'll see. Hopefully they don't listen to the podcast, right? [00:18:11] Speaker A: Yeah, they don't. But yes, cross country, big race for the national race. Really cool. Like we talked about previously in previous episodes, you know, last year we were runners up and weren't really sure where the team would stand this year. Just with, you know, Ben going into the military, but obviously he's coming back. And then, you know, Sam graduating and Matthew running track. And so it's exciting to see where the. Where this group stands right now because I don't think we would have expect. I think the Gerardi's would have. I don't think us on the outside would have expected it, but super proud of them for the way they competed this year. [00:18:47] Speaker B: It's just what we've been talking about with the basketball team this year, which is. It can be a transition, I guess, but basketball, I guess. [00:18:55] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:18:55] Speaker B: Be praying for cross country. Be on the lookout for their races and the live stats. But speaking of, I mean, of the Gerardes. Yeah, I can. There's a love. Love touch. Speaking about the Gerardes just having the confidence in their team. [00:19:09] Speaker A: Yes. [00:19:09] Speaker B: Losing some of their. Their best runners for the. On the men's side, even the women's side with Kate. But the men's basketball team, I know them. Yeah, you do. You're the assistant coach. Men's basketball team definitely losing two of their top players last year. We look at. We've talked about how in the past we've seen Emmaus athletics where the focus has left the one player and has gone to every player. And I really see that with the men's team this year and how maybe if they can even play better together. Right. It's crazy that you might take. It's crazy that sports are just Weird. You can take the best player off of a team and put. Replace that player with somebody else who's also, who's also really good, but they just work better together. And that team will always be better than the team with the better player. Yeah. And it's just I'm excited for the men's basketball team for this year with two of those, two of those losses to the roster and how they're able to step up. And I, I mean, you guys had some great games this last week. [00:20:07] Speaker A: Yeah. Great opening weekend for men's and women's basketball. I mean, that opening night game for the, for the women's team against Trinity. So both teams played Trinity and Providence on Friday and Saturday, but yeah, the women's team. Shane, I'm excited for that. Oh, my goodness. Big, big, big, big win for them. First game of the year, they beat Prof. Or Trinity 90 to 44. Shane, 90 to 44. [00:20:34] Speaker B: Hey, it's good to be on that side. [00:20:37] Speaker A: 90 to 44. Just incredible. Especially say one more time 90 to 44. I just want to say shout out to Coach Kennard just with. In his second year at the helm of the women's basketball program, he has really. He's put in a lot of work. He's done a lot of great practice. He's such a smart basketball player and he's putting these ladies in positions to win. And we have a team full of pretty darn good basketball players. [00:21:03] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:21:03] Speaker A: And they really showed it out Friday night when they beat Trinity 90 to 44. [00:21:08] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:21:08] Speaker A: Which is crazy. [00:21:09] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:21:09] Speaker A: Because that was like two games worth of points for us last year. But yeah, there were four, four girls that scored in double figures. The transfer, Amelia Mackey, Eli's younger sister, scored 26 points in her amaz debut, including. She started the game 4 for 4 from 3. Wow. Up when we started that game up 12. [00:21:28] Speaker B: Oh, there's a fun and picture. [00:21:29] Speaker A: Anna Kreiner scored her first career points. She had 16 points. It was amazing to see her out there coming off inj injury. She played really well. And then Aubrey Silva scored her first career points at 18 there. It's really cool to see, you know, those three perform really well. It takes a lot of weight off of Aaron and Rachel. But you know, Rachel, last year, Rachel averaged a double double the entire season. Yeah, yeah, yeah. And she started off the year with a double double. With a double double because she's a dog. Saturday, tough game against Providence. They run this crazy system the women's team does where they sub 5 in and 5 out every 20 seconds and then they full court press the entire game and then they shoot a lot of threes. So every 20 seconds I do five subs in, which is pretty crazy. So they just want to speed the game up and get lots of turnovers. But our ladies performed pretty well under the circumstance of, you know, we really only played six that game. [00:22:18] Speaker B: Five. [00:22:19] Speaker A: Oh, and I forgot to mention on second, I forgot to mention on Friday that Trinity against Trinity, that Maria Rodriguez scored a 3 and scored her first career points. Hey there too. So shout out, Maria. That was awesome. Yeah. Providence. Yeah. Five and five out. Pretty crazy. We did have a bunch of turnovers, but we ended up losing 100 to 72. So we compete. We still competed pretty well against them. [00:22:40] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:22:40] Speaker A: Amelia had 25 points. Rachel had another double double with 14 points and a million rebounds. And the Matty Weiss came off the bench in her. In her senior year, senior semester, had 13 points. So really cool to see that. Amelia, right now through the first weekend of basketball, I guess technically two weekends because we didn't play the first weekend, is leading the nation in scoring. [00:23:00] Speaker B: That's crazy, man. [00:23:02] Speaker A: The NCCAA Division 2 in scoring. [00:23:05] Speaker B: Let's go. [00:23:05] Speaker A: Which is awesome. [00:23:06] Speaker B: Let's go. [00:23:07] Speaker A: So, yeah, I just can't wait to see this team play. We can stay healthy. This team. Like the sky's the limit for this team. [00:23:13] Speaker B: Okay. I love hearing your confidence right now. Like, that's awesome, man. [00:23:18] Speaker A: Yeah. This is. I mean, this is the most talented team we've had in a very, very long time. [00:23:22] Speaker B: Hey, guys. [00:23:22] Speaker A: Very long time. [00:23:23] Speaker B: This is a lot. [00:23:24] Speaker A: This is a lot since2019, to be honest. [00:23:26] Speaker B: Wow. [00:23:27] Speaker A: Yes. [00:23:28] Speaker B: Guys, be on the lookout, be on the updates. Listen, be watching the podcast, look at our social medias to. To keep up with this women's basketball team because they could. [00:23:38] Speaker A: There are going to be other teams that aren't going to be able to keep up with. [00:23:40] Speaker B: They could bring some noise this season. [00:23:42] Speaker A: They. They will bring some noise this season. [00:23:43] Speaker B: I love hearing that. [00:23:44] Speaker A: Awesome, amazing opening weekend for the women's on the men's side of things. Shane. We also played Trinity in Providence. It was fun that we had four teams here with Grace, Trinity, Providence and us. We opened on Friday night with a loss to Trinity. They beat us 107 to 89. They are a darn good team. [00:24:01] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:24:02] Speaker A: And they always showed it. I know every year we played them, they're just always like, I think last year they, they either lost in the championship. Either. They lost in the championship. No, they beat Crown and they lost in the championship to North Central, Right. [00:24:14] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:24:14] Speaker A: Yes. They beat Crown, who was the defending national champions the year before. [00:24:18] Speaker B: Yep. [00:24:18] Speaker A: And lost to North Central in the. In their North Region championship game. Yeah. Very talented team. Got a lot of. A lot of great guys on their team. But, you know, we played well. We needed to fix some things. One thing that impressed me, which, I mean, is not impressive, but we scored 89 points and had 20 turnovers. [00:24:36] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:24:36] Speaker A: Which is like insane. Like, if we cut back. [00:24:39] Speaker B: Changes the game. [00:24:40] Speaker A: If we cut back 10 turnovers. [00:24:41] Speaker B: That was one of the issues with the women's team last year we talked about. [00:24:44] Speaker A: And so the fact we scored a whopping 89 points, which was a little over our season average last season, and had all those turnovers, I'm excited. We had five guys in double figures. Josh Stewart had 18 points. This is double double for Eli Mackie. So both seniors led the. Led the way on Saturday. And then Friday we played Providence. We won that game. 96, 74. Had a really, really bad first half. Yeah, first half was not. [00:25:12] Speaker B: But you went on a run. [00:25:14] Speaker A: But we ended the game on, like a 66 to 22 run. [00:25:17] Speaker B: Crazy. [00:25:17] Speaker A: It was a 40 point. So we went from down. We went from. At one point, we were down 10 in the first half to up 30 in the second half. And they. They just put a string of. Of plays together, a minute together the 22nd. No, they don't. That's just the women's team that does that, which is pretty crazy. [00:25:31] Speaker B: What's the. What's the. Tell us? And. [00:25:33] Speaker A: And I mean, it's a philosophy. [00:25:35] Speaker B: It's the system. [00:25:36] Speaker A: I mean, it's what. It's what Greenville does. That's what Grinnell does. I mean, it's. That's kind of what Spurgeon kind of runs where it's like, we're gonna beat you with numbers. [00:25:43] Speaker B: Okay. [00:25:44] Speaker A: Like, you're. You're gonna have your. Like, if you probably. On our women's team, like, our best five versus their best five. I'm going with our best five. [00:25:51] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:25:51] Speaker A: But when it's our best five versus their best 10 best. You know, they're 15. Like, you just wear. You just wear that 15 wears down that five because they get a break every 30 seconds where they can go as hard as they can for 30 seconds and then take a minute break. And if someone gets in foul trouble. Oh, next person up. [00:26:09] Speaker B: That's crazy. [00:26:10] Speaker A: But, yeah, so we played. So against Providence, we had four and double figures. Eli Mackie led the way. This is a Mackie weekend. There was a Mackie weekend. Eli led the way with 27 points, which ties his career high at Emmaus, which was really cool to see him perform. And then both Collier and Nathaniel had double doubles. Nathaniel missed Friday night's game because he rolled his ankle Thursday night, and it killed him that he wasn't able to play. You know, we definitely missed him, but he gritted it through and he balled out on Saturday. And then freshman David Rothweiler, career high, 18 points. [00:26:47] Speaker B: Wow. [00:26:47] Speaker A: Which was awesome to see that opening. Speaking of, you know, us talking about, you know, the volleyball parents, pretty much every single basketball parent for men's and women's was at the game this weekend. [00:26:58] Speaker B: Really? [00:26:59] Speaker A: It was really cool. [00:26:59] Speaker B: Even David's. [00:27:00] Speaker A: David's. Yep. They flew all the way from Idaho. [00:27:02] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:27:03] Speaker A: So not all. Not all the parents were there, but almost all the parents for both teams were at the game. [00:27:07] Speaker B: That's incredible. [00:27:08] Speaker A: Which was really cool to see. [00:27:09] Speaker B: You see what happens when the parents are supporting their kids, when the. The family supporting their. Their kids. Their. Their. Their. Their loved ones. See what happens? This is what happens, man. It's culture building. Come on. [00:27:21] Speaker A: Yep. So we got some big, big games coming up. Obviously, we record on Tuesdays, so. And the podcast comes out on Thursday, so we don't have an update for the Maranatha game that happened on Tuesday. So hopefully you paid attention to the box score or watched the game on the live stream or read the recap. [00:27:42] Speaker B: But I'll say this. Last year, the women's team went undefeated against Maranatha. I think it was the only teams they actually. They beat. [00:27:50] Speaker A: Yeah, they beat Maranatha twice and they beat Central. [00:27:56] Speaker B: Yeah, they upset us up once. [00:27:57] Speaker A: Yes. Yes. [00:27:59] Speaker B: And then for. On the men's side, Maranatha ended the men's season in the regular season. [00:28:05] Speaker A: Then we lost him in. In the regionals. [00:28:07] Speaker B: Swept him in the regular season and the Maranatha into the men's season at regional. So let's see how the men's respond. [00:28:14] Speaker A: Yes. [00:28:15] Speaker B: Tonight or. [00:28:16] Speaker A: Or I guess Tuesday night. Whatever. [00:28:18] Speaker B: You guys know how they respond, so you tell us. Goodness. [00:28:20] Speaker A: Tell us. But coming up on Saturday. Saturday at 12 a. Or 12pm Excuse me. The Lady Eagles. The Mavis women's team takes on Mount Mary. [00:28:32] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:28:32] Speaker A: And then the Mass men take on another rival game, Moody Bible Institute at 2pm Be fun. May as versus Moody. [00:28:40] Speaker B: It's gonna be always fun. Always fun. We used to be neighbors back in Chicago. Now we're not. [00:28:45] Speaker A: We're not. But yeah, a great, great opening weekend for both the men's and the women. [00:28:49] Speaker B: You're excited. [00:28:50] Speaker A: Good job. To the basketball. [00:28:51] Speaker B: Exciting. Basketball season's kicking off. Fall is coming to a close. We have volleyball nationals next week. Cross country this week. So this is honestly the. The last, like, update, or I guess next week will be the last fall update for you guys. And then it's gonna be only basketball, which is going to make the. The show as much, Much shorter. Shorter, which is gonna be great. And speaking of that, let's take a little break. [00:29:15] Speaker A: We got a fast break. Speaking of fast break, we got a little short fast break, Shane. [00:29:20] Speaker B: It'll be fast. [00:29:21] Speaker A: I got some trivia for you, Shane. Oh, no, it's not that one. All right, Shane. We have some number trivia. [00:29:29] Speaker B: Dude, you killed it last week. [00:29:31] Speaker A: You know, you're probably gonna be disappointed here. [00:29:32] Speaker B: You know your people well. [00:29:33] Speaker A: All right, ready? Okay, Shane. [00:29:36] Speaker B: Yes. [00:29:36] Speaker A: We're looking at the NBA. [00:29:38] Speaker B: Oh, okay. [00:29:39] Speaker A: What is the most common number worn in NBA history? [00:29:43] Speaker B: 23. [00:29:44] Speaker A: 23. [00:29:45] Speaker B: Oh, in history. [00:29:45] Speaker A: In history. [00:29:46] Speaker B: Yo, that's tough. That's tough. I don't know NBA that well. I want to go give you a hint. [00:29:54] Speaker A: It's below 23. [00:29:55] Speaker B: Okay, I'm gonna go six. [00:30:01] Speaker A: Six. If you double that, it's 12. 12. The most worn number in NBA history. 451 people have worn number 12. [00:30:08] Speaker B: Crazy. [00:30:09] Speaker A: All right, Shane. Major League Baseball, MLB. What is the most common number worn in the MLB? [00:30:14] Speaker B: This is crazy. [00:30:15] Speaker A: Coming in at 900. Two players have worn this number. [00:30:18] Speaker B: Whoa. I don't know. There's so many. [00:30:25] Speaker A: I know, right? Crazy. [00:30:26] Speaker B: What do you do for the way you do this to me, man? I'm going to go with 11. [00:30:29] Speaker A: 11. [00:30:30] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:30:31] Speaker A: Double it. 22. 22 is the most worn number in MLB history. All right, Shane. NHL, the National Hockey Association. Coming in at 515 people have worn this number in the NHL. [00:30:45] Speaker B: 43. [00:30:45] Speaker A: 43 have it. It's 21, basically. Dang it. 21. Most worn number in MLB history. All Right, this is a little different one. MLS. What number has scored the most goals in MLS history? [00:30:58] Speaker B: What number? [00:30:58] Speaker A: What number? [00:30:59] Speaker B: Yo, I don't know. [00:31:00] Speaker A: That was the only thing that Google would tell me. [00:31:03] Speaker B: I don't even know. I'm going to go. I'm going to go 10. [00:31:05] Speaker A: 10 minus one. It's nine. [00:31:07] Speaker B: Dang it. [00:31:08] Speaker A: That was good. All right, Shane. Volleyball. What is the most common number worn for division one volleyball teams? [00:31:16] Speaker B: Number one. [00:31:16] Speaker A: Number one. Add three. Number four and then the last one. Shane, what NASCAR number has the most wins? Football. What number has the most NASCAR. Well, because I kept googling and was like, three. No, it's 11. [00:31:32] Speaker B: Gosh. [00:31:33] Speaker A: NFL is tough because, like, oh, my gosh, they're. [00:31:36] Speaker B: That sucks. [00:31:37] Speaker A: Google was not helpful with that. It was like, what's the most common. I kept looking up and it was. [00:31:41] Speaker B: Like, oh, I did not have fun. [00:31:42] Speaker A: It was like, what's the most hall of fame? Anyway, sorry that you have fun. Shane. That was fast break. I know it's kind of lame. We were kind of rushing through this because I have to leave for our Maranatha trip here shortly. But keep an eye out. Follow our social medias for updates on the games. Updates on. Yeah, 11, isn't it? Because isn't that Richard Petty's number? [00:32:01] Speaker B: I don't even know nascar, man. [00:32:03] Speaker A: Updates on the game. [00:32:04] Speaker B: Follow across. [00:32:05] Speaker A: You are an F1 fan. Follow Cross country to see how they perform. Keeping out this weekend for men's basketball again, like Shane said, continue praying for our teams as we're on the road, especially for volleyball as they travel all the way to nationals. One really cool thing with that is they do a service project when they're down there. [00:32:21] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:32:22] Speaker A: Same with cross country. So cool to see them go in the community. [00:32:24] Speaker B: Like always. Cross country's favorite thing when they come back. Their highlight is, is that not running like a thousand miles. But we were able to do this as a. As a service project and getting to know other people from, you know, around the nation. [00:32:37] Speaker A: Yes. So we appreciate you guys just supporting and listening not only the podcast, but Emmaus as a whole. It's a fantastic place here. We know that you guys know that, and we're just so thankful for your support. [00:32:49] Speaker B: Yeah, man. Yeah. [00:32:50] Speaker A: In honor of regional Shane. What day is it, man? [00:32:54] Speaker B: It's a great week. Great week to be an Eagle. We'll see you guys next week. Yeah. Yeah. [00:33:09] Speaker A: Sam.
