[00:00:00] Speaker A: Foreign.
[00:00:10] Speaker B: Row seats to Emmaus Athletics, I am your co host, Shane Douglas, here with Matthew Tomlinson.
[00:00:17] Speaker A: What's up, Shane?
[00:00:18] Speaker B: Here we go.
[00:00:18] Speaker A: We're back for episode nine.
[00:00:21] Speaker B: I don't even know.
[00:00:22] Speaker A: Episode nine.
[00:00:22] Speaker B: I don't even know. You know, you couldn't. I, I couldn't have guessed that. Like, I truly, like, I just lose count. This is just another day, Another day.
[00:00:29] Speaker A: Another day, another day, another episode.
[00:00:31] Speaker B: Stuff to clarify, I don't think I was wrong.
I never confirmed I was going to re interview Riley. I just said that would be cool. And Will made me look like a.
[00:00:47] Speaker A: Fool because he did put it in the episode.
[00:00:49] Speaker B: What the heck is that about? No, he did.
[00:00:50] Speaker A: Oh, he did. He did.
[00:00:51] Speaker B: On repeat. Do you not watch the episodes?
[00:00:53] Speaker A: I didn't watch that.
[00:00:53] Speaker B: I don't really watch episodes either, but he told me to and because we live it, you know, like, I don't want. I, I. We used to listen to at the beginning to figure out like, okay, what can we do better? We still do now and again, but we just know we're so good at this that we're just.
Either way, though, he, he like slowed it down. He like zoomed in.
That would be cool. That would be cool. That would be. Yeah. So look back at the last episode. It's like within the first 10 minutes and talking about women's cross country and how they're dogs.
Dogs.
[00:01:26] Speaker A: Straight dogs. Stray, straight dogs.
[00:01:29] Speaker B: Okay, they're not. Yeah, they're not.
Okay, whatever. But I didn't say I was gonna interview her. I didn't.
Will, I did not say those words. Okay. Way to make me look like a fool. Thank you. But we were right. We were right. And this is like, I mean, two episodes ago. We were right about her qualifying.
[00:01:50] Speaker A: Good job, Riley again.
[00:01:51] Speaker B: And Lily, both of them. So shout out to cross country team as they're moving forward and we're going to get into them actually here quickly. But before we move on. How you doing, buddy?
[00:02:00] Speaker A: I'm good, Shane.
[00:02:01] Speaker B: How are you? I'm well. I just really had to address that.
[00:02:03] Speaker A: Like it was the elephant in the room, I guess. You were, you were Adam and you're just like, go.
[00:02:08] Speaker B: Nobody has like come at me and be like, oh, you're so wrong. Except for Jennica. I'm sorry, Jennica, I was wrong about your major. You're just always like with Selah and Caitlin and talking about Emmaus and I just, I brought you in and I'm so sorry. You're a math, mathematics, mathematician, a magician.
[00:02:27] Speaker A: So runs in the family.
[00:02:29] Speaker B: Yeah, so. But you're doing good.
[00:02:32] Speaker A: Yes, I am.
[00:02:33] Speaker B: Oh, that's good.
[00:02:33] Speaker A: Yeah, it's been, it's been a good week. It's been a long week. But I'm just thankful that for the weather. The trees outside are beautiful with the leaves turning colors.
[00:02:43] Speaker B: So bipolar.
[00:02:44] Speaker A: And I mean, we got a lot of action this week.
[00:02:47] Speaker B: It's true.
[00:02:48] Speaker A: First basketball games.
[00:02:49] Speaker B: Hey, fair enough.
[00:02:50] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:02:50] Speaker B: Winter sports is starting.
It's getting a little cold out.
How many traffic laws did you break to get here today?
[00:02:59] Speaker A: Oh, none.
[00:03:00] Speaker B: That's not what you said earlier.
[00:03:02] Speaker A: There's a joke because you're taking. Oh, outside.
[00:03:07] Speaker B: Way to break the law. Anyways, one of us is a good citizen of the United States and votes on voting day.
Oh my gosh. You know, get out there and vote. We should have shouted that out. Like, come on, guys. Only 36% of Dubuque voted.
[00:03:23] Speaker A: That's great.
[00:03:23] Speaker B: 37% of the. I don't know how many voters, but only 37% of the registered voters.
[00:03:28] Speaker A: Well, I mean there's. Dubuque county has 60,000 ish people.
[00:03:31] Speaker B: It's like 67,000 people only like, I guess 37% of that only voted. Stinks.
Actually. This is the first time I actually voted for like local government.
[00:03:40] Speaker A: So I say nice as you're sorry.
[00:03:43] Speaker B: I've been a college student, dude. And then like here I am, so an adult.
[00:03:47] Speaker A: That's crazy.
[00:03:47] Speaker B: I'm an adult now. I pay taxes, but either way I do too. Speaking about adults, you know, who are adults, who are grown men and grown women.
[00:03:58] Speaker A: Shane, tell me.
[00:03:59] Speaker B: Cross country.
[00:03:59] Speaker A: Cross country.
[00:04:00] Speaker B: Just dogs. They're grown men. Grown women. Going to nationals again? We got a streak. We got a streak. Going to nationals with the cross country. They don't miss. They don't miss. Every year.
[00:04:12] Speaker A: Every year the men's have had a team on. They've made it.
[00:04:14] Speaker B: Come on, let's go.
[00:04:15] Speaker A: We've always had good.
[00:04:17] Speaker B: It's true. Every, every team. Every year we've had a team on the men's side. Yeah, they've made it.
[00:04:22] Speaker A: Made it. Yep. So yeah, they're off this week. They originally had a meet up at Luther, but they decided not to do that just to recover and rest up for next week for the big one.
[00:04:32] Speaker B: Yeah. Which is the Luther race. Is a. Is a popular race among some of the runners, both men and women's. I was talking to one of our runners from last year, Matthew Hanselman. Shout out All American. Yeah, maybe, maybe coming back, we'll find out.
But either way, with that Said you.
[00:04:51] Speaker A: Heard it from Shane on in the Nest.
[00:04:53] Speaker B: So hey, we'll see. I was just talking to him, so pray about it.
Awesome guys. Doing great stuff for the Lord right now. And he was saying that that was the race. Like he was. He was running that and that was what. That was a race that really made him love running, love cross country because track was like his main sport. I feel like a lot of people who do cross country get into it through track some dose.
[00:05:14] Speaker A: Right.
[00:05:14] Speaker B: It's either one of those routes or you're just doing it to stay fit. And if you're doing it to stay fit, you mostly don't run it in college because we have plenty of people who ran cross country in high school who aren't on the team because, you know, many reasons. But no, he fell in love with the, the sport. He like fell in love with the. The race aspect, the running aspect. He was having conversations with a guy from Luther running with him and on the tractor. Like we're, hey, like talking to each other. We're getting through this part. Like this next mile is our mile and they just booked it like they killed it and of like that guy eventually like runs ahead. But you know, Matthew, Matthew will like. I mean Luther has a bigger athletic program.
[00:05:53] Speaker A: They're D3.
[00:05:53] Speaker B: But Matthew, I mean still, you know, pulls forward and passes a lot of guys towards the end. But it was. He said if he said know he would be pushing to do it this, this race this year because that was the race that carried his. That momentum into nationals for him. And no, no offense to the coach Gerardian. They know the team better. They know when they got to stay, they already accomplished it.
[00:06:16] Speaker A: I mean they all. They all p. Basically everyone PR at at the regional race. So that's the momentum carrying him into nationals.
[00:06:22] Speaker B: Yeah. So I guess like what's the point, right? Yeah.
[00:06:24] Speaker A: Right.
[00:06:24] Speaker B: So. But pretty cool to. To hear the perspective because we asked ourselves, why do they need a race?
They made it the nationals. How important? But it was like the momentum for, for Matthew to carry him into nationals, becoming an All American and finishing top 10. Yeah. So like he. At that race, he's like, I now know what I need to do to finish strong and to finish on top.
[00:06:47] Speaker A: That's cool.
[00:06:48] Speaker B: And they were able to do it. We were able to get runners up in the nation.
So hopefully regionals, because regionals was awesome. It was on our part. That momentum is still carried forward into nationals with our team to make some.
Some splash, make some headlines at National. So we'll let you guys know about that coming up in next week.
[00:07:08] Speaker A: Reminder, it's in Indiana at Grace College.
[00:07:10] Speaker B: Yep. So we'll have more updates for cross country, but shout out to everybody on the team for making a nationalist. It's gonna be a fun trip for you guys. Yeah, enjoy it. Enjoy it. So, and if you want to run cross country and you want to go to nationals, you know where to go because there's, there's a team out there, AAS University, there's, there's, there is a school out here who hasn't missed a nationals appearance since having a cross country.
[00:07:31] Speaker A: They. We've had every year the program's been in existence. We've had runners at nationals.
[00:07:35] Speaker B: Dogs. Dogs.
In other news, we're. We'll move on to soccer. Soccer update. Here we go for the huddle. Not much new in soccer. We guys updated you last week. What happened, how they went down to Des Moines to play a.
A play in game against Ozark to.
[00:07:53] Speaker A: Go to the conference tournament.
[00:07:55] Speaker B: Wasn't able to pull through with that. Even though had a strong game against Ozark earlier that season. Was able to draw Ozark having a pretty, not really a late goal, but a goal to equalize it, equalize it later in the match and to, you know, carry out a tie. So guys go in with a.
I guess they weren't able to pull through to finish, but you know, they know that and they're moving on to the next cccb. Central was able to take the win.
[00:08:28] Speaker A: They took the crown.
[00:08:29] Speaker B: Which is, it's honestly kind of cool that the last two years the two teams that have been on the bottom for a while, Central and Barclay have taken the championship. So I, I like that. I like that. It's like moving around a little bit now.
I know they've won in the past. I think he may have. We were, we are the most recent team to the MCCC and we won in 2018. So every team has won at least once.
[00:08:53] Speaker A: Yeah, but like the NFC east.
[00:08:56] Speaker B: But Central just started their, their program and now they're able to.
[00:08:59] Speaker A: This is either year two or. I think it's year two of the program.
[00:09:01] Speaker B: Yeah. After like a five year sabbatical.
But they had a lot of transfers.
[00:09:07] Speaker A: They did. I mean all the guys on Barkley that won it at Barkley last year won it at Central this year.
[00:09:11] Speaker B: So pretty much. So maybe they'll go somewhere else. Hopefully not next year.
Maybe they move on to a different conference.
[00:09:17] Speaker A: They'll go to Ozark or.
[00:09:18] Speaker B: No, don't go to Ozark. Just go on to another conference, but.
[00:09:21] Speaker A: With the conference tourname.
Josh. Matt was first team all mcc. So congrats to Josh.
[00:09:26] Speaker B: There it is.
[00:09:27] Speaker A: On the or. Jake. Sorry? Jake. Matt was first team. Same Matt.
[00:09:30] Speaker B: Dang it, dude.
[00:09:30] Speaker A: Right?
[00:09:31] Speaker B: Josh is retired.
[00:09:32] Speaker A: Forgot. Forgot. Jake was first team all conference.
[00:09:35] Speaker B: What type of journalism is this?
[00:09:36] Speaker A: I don't know. You tell me. And he was our loan award recipient, so congrats on that. Yeah, they. Yeah. Finished out the conference schedule.
[00:09:45] Speaker B: It was weird this year. Starting to interrupt, but it was weird because they didn't have second.
[00:09:48] Speaker A: No, it was first team and four honorable mentions.
[00:09:50] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:09:50] Speaker A: And no goalies got any awards.
[00:09:53] Speaker B: What is this the NBA now?
[00:09:54] Speaker A: Yeah. Right. No, no goalie. So no one. Yeah. None gotten award.
[00:09:58] Speaker B: Like they're not doing positions.
[00:09:59] Speaker A: Yeah, I guess not.
You. You would think they would have at least one goalie. What?
[00:10:04] Speaker B: Yeah, but that's weird.
[00:10:05] Speaker A: Yeah, I was talking about.
[00:10:06] Speaker B: Was there a goalie that was an honorable mention? Do we know?
[00:10:07] Speaker A: No. No one got no goal.
[00:10:10] Speaker B: Strange. Strange.
[00:10:11] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:10:11] Speaker B: It's like the NBA, you know?
[00:10:13] Speaker A: I know, right? Positionless, I guess. But yeah, whatever. You would think that of all sports with the goalie being like the most important position, basically.
[00:10:22] Speaker B: Like, yeah, either way.
[00:10:24] Speaker A: But yeah, So I thought that was interesting. But yeah, looking ahead as they, you know, practice this week and head up to Michigan for regionals that, you know, obviously we're going to be down some players, but they still have a great opportunity to go out there and compete and to, you know, maybe Grace is overlooking us for Great Lakes or Maranatha and to be, you know, perfect. It'd be picture perfect.
[00:10:48] Speaker B: You said it's at Grace, right?
[00:10:49] Speaker A: It's at Great Lakes.
[00:10:50] Speaker B: At Great Lakes.
Yeah. Great Lakes has. They have a. They have a good field and we play Grace.
[00:10:57] Speaker A: Yep.
[00:10:57] Speaker B: So it's gonna be really tough. Grace is really good. Grace has been the soccer school in our regional.
[00:11:03] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:11:03] Speaker B: They're Michigan. So is Great Lakes and Kite.
[00:11:06] Speaker A: There's a lot. And I think we've talked. There's a lot of good soccer players in Michigan.
[00:11:09] Speaker B: There are. Michigan is one of the soccer states for sure. Um, and yeah, I mean, not much to say about this.
This matchup. We played them not too long ago.
We know what they're capable of.
[00:11:21] Speaker A: Four, one.
[00:11:22] Speaker B: And I mean, the players. The players will say the same thing that we will say that the. The box score, the stats don't. Don't add up to the talent of our team.
[00:11:33] Speaker A: I was looking at. I was looking at stat right before this. And this is so fascinating to me, our team is top 10 in the nation in shots, but we're bottom 10 in the nation and goals scored.
[00:11:46] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:11:46] Speaker A: So, I mean, to look to that point, we are having the opportunities to go out there and score. Just haven't been able to, like, like you said, the box score can be deceiving of what the actual talent on the field is. And I mean, I think that's a stat that just proves, like, we're getting the opportunity to score. We're just not.
[00:12:04] Speaker B: And it's. The thing is the soccer is a team sport.
[00:12:06] Speaker A: Yep.
[00:12:06] Speaker B: And what's unique about team sports is it doesn't always fall on one player. If it's the whole team. Bill Belichick's mindset of, like, do your job. Right. Because if one. If every. Yeah, if every player is doing their job as a team sport, then your team's going to succeed. Right. But of course, if you have one, one part of that engine that isn't working, then the engine is going to shut down. Something's going to be wrong. It's not going to run properly. It's not going to, you know, finish the game, get to the finish line. So I think that's something the guys really need to put together and work with. And they know this, everyone knows this. And we've been saying the same thing. It's this. It's just like rinse and repeat at this time of the year with the podcast and letting you listeners know what's going on with the soccer team. But they know, they know what they got to do now.
[00:12:48] Speaker A: They just have to go and do it.
[00:12:49] Speaker B: They were able to play very well at the beginning of the season. They were able to play fantastic against Central just a few weeks ago. And it's just, it's just, it's just playing that way. Yeah.
[00:12:58] Speaker A: Can they piece together a streak of where they play consistent soccer for 90 minutes?
[00:13:02] Speaker B: But that stat really opens up. That stat really makes it clear of what we've been saying all year. Top 10 in shots. Shots.
[00:13:09] Speaker A: Yep.
[00:13:10] Speaker B: Shots on goal. Shots and bottom.
[00:13:12] Speaker A: 10 bottom.
[00:13:13] Speaker B: Goals, bottom and goal. So it's not that we are missing the forwards, of course. Every time when we're, like, talking to the recruits in the admissions process, I'm like, please, please tell me you're a forward. And they're like, no, I play defense. Oh, gosh. We'll take it. We'll take it. Right. We're losing some players this year. We'll take it.
But if you're forward and you wanna, you wanna be on a team that's gonna give you the opportunities to score. And you're like, you gotta know. University got nose for the back of the net. Like, let's go. We'll take you because we. We do need help on some off. We do need help on offense, especially with Jake graduating. That's gonna be tough.
But. And, and Jake took the. The conference and region by storm. Oh, yeah. And he had. He had Josh and they would just worked so well.
[00:13:58] Speaker A: Twin power.
[00:13:59] Speaker B: Dude. It was.
[00:14:00] Speaker A: It was like, it was fun to watch last year.
[00:14:02] Speaker B: It was honestly like kicking and screaming, you know, Feed the Italians. That was the mats last year. So have you, have you seen the movie?
[00:14:09] Speaker A: I laughed. I have no idea what you're talking about.
[00:14:13] Speaker B: That is such your movie, man. Will Ferrell movie. Feed the Italians. Kicking, screamings. All you. You like coffee. So do they. But if you've. If you've seen it, you know.
But no. So we'll see what the soccer team can do. Grace is a really good team, probably one of the best in the conference.
[00:14:28] Speaker A: They're number one in the region, number six in the nation.
[00:14:30] Speaker B: There it is. So we'll see what they can do. The guys can. The guys can definitely match up, match up well with Grace.
[00:14:38] Speaker A: You know, Coach McHugh always says like.
Like his goal is always to end someone's season.
[00:14:43] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:14:44] Speaker A: And what better way to than for this opportunity to end their season.
[00:14:48] Speaker B: Hey, I like that.
[00:14:50] Speaker A: I do too.
[00:14:50] Speaker B: So, yeah, soccer's got a lot coming up. That's this weekend. Yeah. There we go. So be praying for. Be praying for the soccer team as they travel to Michigan and today.
Yeah. And then also be praying for volleyball.
[00:15:02] Speaker A: As they travel today. Well, yeah, today they're playing at Grace. So recap.
[00:15:07] Speaker B: Conference.
[00:15:08] Speaker A: Yeah. Both Michigan, which is interesting, but yeah, it's cool.
[00:15:10] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:15:11] Speaker A: Recapping volleyball, Shane. So new coaches poll, final regular season coaches poll came out and Mayus is number eight in the nation.
[00:15:18] Speaker B: We'll take it.
[00:15:19] Speaker A: You will take it. Yeah.
[00:15:20] Speaker B: Good.
[00:15:21] Speaker A: Conference tournament. I mean, we were. We went into the tournament as the bottom seed.
[00:15:24] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:15:25] Speaker A: As the playing, I guess on the bottom seed, the fifth seed, Central was the bottom seed playing Ozark, the host team, who was the four seed, who we lost to earlier in the year at Ozark, three games to two. Fantastic match there. I came in and just played. We played a really. The ladies played a really good game. Ozarks ranked 10th in the nation, so top 10 matchup.
[00:15:46] Speaker B: Dang. Our conference is killing.
[00:15:48] Speaker A: Our conference has like half. Like half of the top 10 is our conference.
[00:15:51] Speaker B: It legit. Is Ozark, Emmaus, Calvary. Calvary, Faith, Manhattan. Wow.
[00:15:55] Speaker A: Like the mccc wow is a phenomenal volleyball.
[00:15:59] Speaker B: That's pretty cool, isn't it? That's pretty cool. Come on.
[00:16:02] Speaker A: I mean, every team, all three games were against top 10 opponents. Come on. Yeah, but yeah, played Ozark. Rematch.
Played them on their home court, big upset. Beat them 3 to 1.
Awesome to see that for a chance to go to the semifinals to play the number one seed in the conference and the number one seed in the nation, Manhattan.
[00:16:20] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:16:21] Speaker A: And Manhattan is just so good. Yeah, they, they took care of us in three sets. Hey, they took care of everyone.
[00:16:27] Speaker B: Maybe they watched the podcast. I told them to be awake for, for conference. I said, don't just have your eyes on the prize of nationals, you know, finish it at conference. And they, they, they took my words, they took the wisdom, and they said, okay, Shane, we love you. We appreciate you so much more than Matt, because they yell at Matt when you visit them.
[00:16:48] Speaker A: Put that on the podcast.
[00:16:49] Speaker B: Put that on the podcast and we're going to finish this game. And they did.
[00:16:55] Speaker A: They took care of business, which they eventually won. Beat Faith, which I think was their seventh straight.
I think it was seven straight. But yeah, we, we then went to the third place game to play Calvary, who we split with earlier in the regular season.
Played Saturday morning.
Did not play well. Yeah, ended up losing. Ended up losing 3, 0. Calvary is ranked seventh, so in the nation. So like I said earlier, all three teams were top 10. But, yeah, unfortunately didn't have the juice that morning. Yeah, didn't really didn't perform well. But can't let that, you know, that that bad flavor in our mouth go into this upcoming weekend. Some exciting things was Jennica and Kate both received second team all conference awards, so good job to Caitlin and to Jennica.
[00:17:40] Speaker B: I guess that's. I guess being second team, you want first team. And we look at our girls or our women and they're like, wow. Like, they, they deserve first team.
[00:17:48] Speaker A: I mean, that just shows how good.
[00:17:49] Speaker B: The conference is in this conference. I get, I get it. I, I, you can't be mad.
[00:17:53] Speaker A: No.
[00:17:54] Speaker B: But because the women in our conference are just incredible.
[00:17:57] Speaker A: They are like, it's great, great players. They are like, volleyball is the deepest sport in our conference.
[00:18:02] Speaker B: Right. That was funny. It used to, I mean, I don't even say it used to be like, I think men's basketball used to be pretty, Pretty talent or competitive.
[00:18:10] Speaker A: I mean. Yeah. Like with, I mean, still is. Yeah. Like, Faith was always good Ozark, you know, Those teams were always good, but.
[00:18:15] Speaker B: Like, but this is like the first time in a long time volleyball has had half. Well, not even just volleyball, but any sport has like had a lot of rankings.
[00:18:21] Speaker A: That's a good point.
[00:18:22] Speaker B: Yeah, like, like half of the top 10 is our.
[00:18:24] Speaker A: Is the MCCC kind of cool. It is.
And that's with teams not. That's with some teams not having a season too, which is crazy.
[00:18:30] Speaker B: It's true.
[00:18:31] Speaker A: So. But yeah, good job to Kate and Jennica.
So we finished with fourth place, the fourth place award in the conference tournament. And speaking of fourth place and fourth four straight years, the sportsmanship award for your mas women's volleyball team. So good job for our women's volleyball team keeping the top C in coach Hannah's, you know, Christ committed and competitive. Keeping that top C there four straight years. And that's with a winless season. That's with, you know, an 18 win season and that's. And two other seasons in between. So good job to our ladies on the volleyball team for. Yeah, good job showing the sportsmanship and showing those Christ like characters.
[00:19:11] Speaker B: It's hard to win that award when you're good.
[00:19:14] Speaker A: Yes.
[00:19:14] Speaker B: Because it's easy to win when you're bad. It's hard to win when you're good because you play against a team that's bad. It's like, oh, they're so cute.
[00:19:21] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:19:21] Speaker B: You're like, of course they're so nice and. But when they're good and they destroy you on the court, then you're like, man, I don't like them.
[00:19:26] Speaker A: Well, I remember when Emmaus women's basketball alumni Anna Harwood said, wait, you can be good and still win the sportsmanship award.
[00:19:34] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:19:34] Speaker A: And yeah, it's like, it's how you uphold yourselves when you're at the lowest of lows or the highest of the highs.
[00:19:39] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:19:39] Speaker A: And so that's super encouraging.
[00:19:41] Speaker B: Yes.
[00:19:41] Speaker A: Good job to coach Hannah, coach Megan, coach Tasha of just keeping that. Keeping the main thing. The main thing.
[00:19:46] Speaker B: I just this. I heard a player said, I think the soccer guys, didn't they as well?
[00:19:54] Speaker A: I did. Yes, they did. And soccer. Yeah, soccer won back to back years. That's right. Because I forgot Bennett mentioned that. Yeah. Thanks for telling us everyone. Yeah. Soccer got back to back awards. So again, top of the conference, bottom of the conference. So good job to Coach McHugh. And there we go, upholding that.
Those guys. So yeah, super exciting going into this weekend. We got some top 10 stuff. Michelle Striley is currently seventh the nation in assists and Jennica beach is number five in Diggs. And Michelle. Michelle is 70 assists away from 2000 career assists. Tell her that is pretty crazy.
And so, yeah, this is a good.
[00:20:30] Speaker B: This is an amazing lineup that we've had on our women's volleyball team, and it's a blessing to have it, you know, especially with a couple years.
[00:20:38] Speaker A: Number two assists, number one digs, number one, and two kills on the team, which is awesome.
[00:20:42] Speaker B: That's really cool.
[00:20:44] Speaker A: Excited. Looking ahead to regionals.
[00:20:46] Speaker B: Yes.
[00:20:46] Speaker A: Being the 1 seed.
[00:20:48] Speaker B: We might have finished fourth seed at conference, but we're going in as the 1 seed. Yeah.
[00:20:53] Speaker A: Undefeated. One seed in the region.
So excited to kind of revenge tour. If you could say from last year, man, you should have won last year. Everyone knows we should have won last year.
[00:21:02] Speaker B: Volleyball player. If you're on the team, like, stop listening right now because, like, we just want you to focus on the, focus.
[00:21:07] Speaker A: On the game and go out there and take care of business. You have two games to win.
[00:21:11] Speaker B: Don't tell them that. Like, I mean, they know they do, but we don't want to get them in their heads.
[00:21:15] Speaker A: You're not.
[00:21:16] Speaker B: That's why you shouldn't be listening right now to Turn it off.
All right, now, Matt.
[00:21:22] Speaker A: Okay, now, I thought it froze. So anyway, yeah, so we play the winner of number four, Great Lakes and number five, Kuiper. So we'll play the winner of that in the semis because we get the automatic. We get the buy, basically.
So we play them and we win.
[00:21:36] Speaker B: Who you say we play first?
[00:21:37] Speaker A: We play the winner of Great Lakes and Kuiper.
[00:21:39] Speaker B: Okay.
[00:21:40] Speaker A: And I don't think we've not played either.
[00:21:42] Speaker B: And we win that, we're in the championship.
[00:21:43] Speaker A: We're in the championship. And then we would play on the other side, it would be the winner of Maranath and Moody would play Grace.
[00:21:52] Speaker B: I, I, I think I could speak for everybody. I want, I want the championship to be against Grace and, and revenge at home of Grace. And Grace is a great team.
We love them. They're very kind and they're great opponents last year. But if, if, if you're new to the channel last or to even the sports at mas Last year, our women's team, again, same, pretty much the same exact number one setting going into the the regional tournament, favored to win to go to nationals. Everybody's like, we're there. We're going like we're book it. We've booked the trip. Not really, but like, no, pretty much, yeah. And we're up two zero.
[00:22:32] Speaker A: Up two zero in the Third set. We're at. We're at match point.
[00:22:36] Speaker B: Yeah. And it's like, it's close.
[00:22:37] Speaker A: Like, it's like 24 to. It's like 22 or 23 or something like that.
[00:22:41] Speaker B: And one by two, and we're up one have the option to win, don't we? Don't we blow it? And then Grace wins set 3 wins the next set and then wins the final.
[00:22:54] Speaker A: Reverse swept. Yeah.
[00:22:55] Speaker B: So they reverse swept us in the championship and regionals and they go to. They go to nationals and we're there stunned. We're stunned. So a rematch this year right there for Grace's home, probably. I mean, they're. They're number two. So favored to see us in the championship. So the women just had to go there and finish it. Finish the job.
[00:23:16] Speaker A: Business. Yep.
[00:23:17] Speaker B: Don't know nothing else to say but to finish the job.
[00:23:19] Speaker A: Finish the job.
[00:23:20] Speaker B: You guys have been around the listeners. You guys are more involved than mostly any people, especially if you're a volleyball family or friend, you know the team well, you know what they can do, what they're capable of. You guys have been listening all season, have been watching, traveling, and you. The best thing, best advice, best thing that we could say to update you is that they just need to finish the job.
[00:23:40] Speaker A: Finish the job.
[00:23:41] Speaker B: It's theirs. It's a finish the job. It's there.
And that's. That's all I gotta say, man.
[00:23:47] Speaker A: Let's go.
[00:23:48] Speaker B: That's all I gotta say. So hopefully next week we're, you know, we're booking trips and Matt and I can have a live show at nationals. That'd be crazy and never let us do that, but it'd be fun. So be praying for our teams as they travel this week both to Michigan as men's soccer and women's volleyball, and pray for a good outcome, but more important, that they can take that sportsmanship award and continue it through the season. The finish strong.
[00:24:11] Speaker A: Amen.
[00:24:12] Speaker B: On the field, on the court, and honoring the Lord. Yes. And I, I mean, both our teams winning that award really just.
Just proves what. What we say on this podcast so much is that athletics is different here at Emmaus. We, we. We do care about the character of our students, character of our athletes. So. And we want that to be reflected. And yeah, pretty cool to win those awards.
[00:24:35] Speaker A: Really cool job to soccer and volleyball.
[00:24:38] Speaker B: But be praying for that. And then real quickly, we got basketball.
[00:24:42] Speaker A: Saying, it's basketball season. Let's go.
So, yeah, Shane, looking ahead, we have our first home games of the year for Our men's and women's team. So kind of highlighting the women's team. We have nine players this year, two seniors on the team with Maddie and Rachel. Super excited to watch the Lady Eagles this season.
[00:25:03] Speaker B: I think the return of Maddie.
[00:25:04] Speaker A: Return of Maddie. Let's go. I think. I think they're going to shock a lot of people.
[00:25:08] Speaker B: They will.
[00:25:09] Speaker A: But. Yeah. So coming up on Friday, first game of the season, your Lady Eagles women's basketball team takes on Trinity Bible at 5pm on Friday.
On the next day on Saturday at 2pm we play Providence University and College all the way from Canada.
And then the big one next Tuesday, we're on the road up to Maranatha. Ladies play at 5. So super excited. Cannot wait to see them get out on the court in coach Canard's second year at the helm. Excited for these young ladies.
I think, like I said earlier, I think it's gonna be a really fun year.
[00:25:42] Speaker B: It's gonna be awesome.
[00:25:43] Speaker A: We stay healthy. It's gonna be a great year.
[00:25:45] Speaker B: We've had some good scrimmages for both men's and women's team and it's been.
It's been great games. Yeah. Great games. Great character on our side and.
Yeah.
[00:25:58] Speaker A: Yep.
[00:25:59] Speaker B: So just to continue that. Continue that and we'll see what they. They're able to do. Hopefully it can come to more of the. The games this year. Last year they put me on the road the entire time, so not my fault.
[00:26:08] Speaker A: Nope.
[00:26:09] Speaker B: Okay. Talk to my bosses if you really want to see Shane there. Matt gets all the. Matt gets all the clout from the. The families and friends at the games. I don't get anything in basketball season.
[00:26:18] Speaker A: Fun. There's gonna be a lot of basketball families from both sides at the games this weekend.
[00:26:21] Speaker B: Sweet.
[00:26:21] Speaker A: But look on the men's side. Yeah. Men's, we Play. We have 15 guys on our team. We got our two seniors, Josh and Eli. So super excited for them in their final campaign. But yeah, we take on Trinity Bible at 7pm on Friday. Saturday take on Providence at 4. And then, yep, the match of all matches. Marinatha back on Tuesday at 7pm so just another game. It is.
[00:26:45] Speaker B: It's just another game. Don't hype it up. Don't make it.
You will.
[00:26:49] Speaker A: Oh, I will. But yeah. So super excited. The basketball is back. Yeah.
[00:26:53] Speaker B: I'm excited for the men's team. Like to match the excitement of the women's team. They're going to shock people this year to match the excitement of the men's team. Also going to Shock people this year, losing our best player from last year.
[00:27:04] Speaker A: Top two players.
[00:27:04] Speaker B: Yeah, I think. Yeah, it's true. And I think going into this year, it's going to. Yeah, top two and is going to.
People think. I don't think people are going to think much of the men's basketball team, but we've talked about how similar years in the past.
A team might lose one of their best players or a couple of their best players, but they have a lot of depth and being able to use that depth. Spread out.
[00:27:26] Speaker A: Balance. Yeah, balance. We saw that against Clark.
[00:27:28] Speaker B: And you see more success. You see more success. So I'm excited to see what the men can do. I'm excited to see what they're doing this year. But if you're.
[00:27:35] Speaker A: If you're in Dubuque, come out to those games on Friday and Saturday.
[00:27:39] Speaker B: All right, now it's time for everybody's favorite time.
[00:27:46] Speaker A: All right, what do you got for me today, Shane?
[00:27:49] Speaker B: Okay, we're gonna do a game. I don't know what you call it.
[00:27:52] Speaker A: Oh, no.
[00:27:54] Speaker B: So a couple weeks ago, Matt had a fun game. I really enjoyed it. It was the Twitter game. I don't know. What'd you call that?
[00:27:59] Speaker A: Who tweeted it?
[00:28:00] Speaker B: Oh, who tweeted it? But we need to have a fun graphic will. Fun graphics. Okay, we record early.
[00:28:06] Speaker A: What does this eagle say?
[00:28:07] Speaker B: Well, now, we talked about how this would be fun.
I even text myself, like, to do this game. Okay, we're gonna do Instagram bios.
Yay. Do I get a sound effect? Instagram bios?
[00:28:22] Speaker A: Nope. Give me.
[00:28:23] Speaker B: Dude, dude, give me a sound effect. Give me something, please.
What are you doing?
[00:28:29] Speaker A: He's changing it.
[00:28:30] Speaker B: No, I love this.
[00:28:34] Speaker A: That's great.
[00:28:35] Speaker B: That's great. I love that.
[00:28:36] Speaker A: Do it again.
[00:28:37] Speaker B: Hit it again.
Instagram bios.
That's great. All right, I'm going to read the bio and you tell me whose it is. Okay, I got a lot of screenshots here. What are.
[00:28:47] Speaker A: What are. Are these students? Are these people of Emmaus?
[00:28:50] Speaker B: They're people of the athletic realm. Or so.
[00:28:53] Speaker A: Like, this could be, like, NFL players, NBA players. No, no, no.
[00:28:56] Speaker B: Emmaus athletic realm.

[00:29:20] Speaker A: Is that Brooke?
[00:29:21] Speaker B: No, it's coach Megan Bailey.
[00:29:24] Speaker A: Megan Bailey.
[00:29:25] Speaker B: Dubuque Pin mark. All right.
[00:29:27] Speaker A: Not for long.

[00:30:11] Speaker A: I don't even know if he has access to his Instagram account anymore.
[00:30:14] Speaker B: 0. Posts like, this guy's not. He's not on Instagram. 0.
[00:30:19] Speaker A: The thing is, Coach B is not gonna see this.
[00:30:21] Speaker B: I know. I called him Dora last week. Nobody. Come on. Who is it?
[00:30:25] Speaker A: It's Coach Parker.
[00:30:26] Speaker B: Okay? Yeah.

[00:30:50] Speaker B: All right, here, here's. Here's. When we get here, this is where it gets really difficult. Some people. And this is no offense to everybody, but maybe you want to change your bios. Let's get a little more creative, cuz we see that. A little more creative, please. Come on. Like, it's always the same. I was. That's why it took so long because everybody's just like, the same. Like, EB EBC or EU. Some people still have EBC. EU.
Volleyball, soccer. Like 27. Okay, so HHS 23.
EU 27. Second Corinthians 3, 17. And heart. H, heart emoji. Not heart emoji. Heart, hand.
[00:31:25] Speaker A: Was that two Hs or three Hs?
[00:31:27] Speaker B: Heart, heart, hand emoji. Two Hs.
[00:31:29] Speaker A: HHS 2 3.
[00:31:33] Speaker B: 2, 3. EU27.

[00:31:59] Speaker A: With a corn emoji.
[00:32:00] Speaker B: Yeah, there's something else there, but I'm leaving it out because it's too obvious.
[00:32:03] Speaker A: It's too obvious.
[00:32:04] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:32:04] Speaker A: That could be like an Emma sand, maybe.
[00:32:06] Speaker B: Yep, it is Emma Sand. You got it.
All right, here's like just.
Just like cookie cutters. Come on. First John 4, 9 through 10. EU 27.

[00:32:22] Speaker B: It'd be anyone.
[00:32:23] Speaker A: First John. What? 4, 4, 7.
[00:32:25] Speaker B: 4. First John, 4, 9 through 10.
[00:32:28] Speaker A: 9 through 10.
This is probably like.
[00:32:32] Speaker B: I'll give you a hit. Soccer.
[00:32:33] Speaker A: It's soccer. Okay.
First John. First John, four. Is this Caleb Hunter?
[00:32:40] Speaker B: No.
[00:32:40] Speaker A: Does he have Instagram?
[00:32:41] Speaker B: I haven't. Probably not. Okay, so then it's not him though.
[00:32:43] Speaker A: Okay. I don't think he has Instagram. I don't think about it. Let's see. Is it. Is it Bennett?
[00:32:48] Speaker B: It is Bennett.
[00:32:49] Speaker A: Oh, dang.
[00:32:50] Speaker B: You're doing good. You're doing good. This is gonna be a tough one. EU, formally EBC26.
[00:32:57] Speaker A: EU, formally EBC26. That means they're a scene.
[00:33:02] Speaker B: 3. 3 photos.
418.
[00:33:07] Speaker A: It means that they're. They're a senior this year.
[00:33:10] Speaker B: I guess so.
[00:33:13] Speaker A: Formally ebc. I feel. Who would say that it's not.
I feel like it's a soccer player. No, I feel like it's a cross country runner.
[00:33:21] Speaker B: Soccer.
[00:33:21] Speaker A: It's a soccer player. So then it's either who's the seniors? The seniors are Jake.
Well, John. No, it's not John. Who is it? Jake. And who is it? Just Jake.
Jake. No, it's not Jake.
[00:33:38] Speaker B: It is Harry Brown.
[00:33:40] Speaker A: Harry. That's right. Harry's a senior. I forget.
[00:33:42] Speaker B: Yes.
A cross meant to kill is my victory.
[00:33:47] Speaker A: That Jared.
[00:33:48] Speaker B: No.
Jared Dow. Yeah, good guess, but no. It is men's basketball. That's why it's a good guess.
[00:33:53] Speaker A: Cross meant to kill.
[00:33:54] Speaker B: A cross meant to kill is my victory. In quotes.
Adam.
[00:33:59] Speaker A: Oh, Nathaniel.
[00:34:00] Speaker B: It is. Do you just, like, stock people's Instagram? This is like. Come on.
[00:34:04] Speaker A: Yes.
[00:34:05] Speaker B: All right. Pursuing. Pursuing the Lord. Heart emoji.
[00:34:09] Speaker A: Pursuing the heart emoji.
[00:34:11] Speaker B: And then also at girlfriend.
He added his girlfriend in his bio.
[00:34:17] Speaker A: That's Seth.
[00:34:18] Speaker B: Dude, how do you.
This is so weird. How do you know this?
What the heck? This is wild, dude.
[00:34:25] Speaker A: I'm trying to think of who.
[00:34:26] Speaker B: All right, ready? Okay.
[00:34:27] Speaker A: I was trying to think of which soccer guys are dating. Oh, that's an easy one.
[00:34:30] Speaker B: I love God more. What else do you want? Question mark. If you need to have a deep theological conversation. DM me. 2 exclamation points.
[00:34:40] Speaker A: That's Sabrina.
[00:34:41] Speaker B: Nope. No.
[00:34:42] Speaker A: Evan Mikalik.
[00:34:43] Speaker B: No.
Is that Jared no, men's soccer.
[00:34:47] Speaker A: Men's soccer.
If you need to have a. If you need to have.
[00:34:54] Speaker B: Soccer, it's.
[00:35:01] Speaker A: Like Pogs or someone. No, it's like, who would that be?
[00:35:05] Speaker B: Three seconds, you know it.
[00:35:08] Speaker A: Is that Connor?
[00:35:11] Speaker B: No, not Connor. Who do you think?
No, it's pj.
[00:35:15] Speaker A: Oh, pj.
[00:35:17] Speaker B: Okay. And this is like you student athletes. If you want to, like, this is your fault. Like, I got through most of you guys, so I might have missed some good ones. But if you want, like, you can't get mad at me for who I'm using because, like, you guys usually, like, all your bios are pretty much the same. It takes a big man to cry, but it takes a bigger man to laugh at that man.
Quote by Jack H.
[00:35:40] Speaker A: By Jack H.
[00:35:42] Speaker B: 332 posts, 424 followers. And the buy. And it's.
I'm not going to tell you what the picture is in the. In the bio because I think it would give away.
[00:35:54] Speaker A: It takes a.
Is this a soccer player?
[00:35:59] Speaker B: It has to do with soccer.
[00:36:00] Speaker A: It has to do with soccer.
[00:36:02] Speaker B: Yeah. Or this person does.
[00:36:05] Speaker A: Like Travis.
[00:36:06] Speaker B: It is Travis.
Like, I guess I gave you a hint.
[00:36:09] Speaker A: You gave it away. Basically.
[00:36:10] Speaker B: Faith. Faith is not about following into the unknown. Is following someone who knows all the unknown. Across the street and around the world. With a bunch of flag emojis.
[00:36:21] Speaker A: Across the street and around the world.
[00:36:23] Speaker B: Yep.
[00:36:24] Speaker A: With a bunch of flag emojis.
[00:36:25] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:36:26] Speaker A: So someone who's traveled a lot.
[00:36:27] Speaker B: Faith is not about following into the unknown. Is following someone who knows all the unknown.
So quiet. Hurry up.
[00:36:39] Speaker A: I have no idea. Is it song?
[00:36:41] Speaker B: No, it's me.
[00:36:43] Speaker A: It's you.
[00:36:43] Speaker B: Shane Douglas.
[00:36:44] Speaker A: Oh, Shane.
[00:36:45] Speaker B: Yep.
This is a fun one. Wife and mommy. Heart. Heart.
Believer.
[00:36:51] Speaker A: Well, the only person that would apply to is Coach Hannah.
[00:36:54] Speaker B: Yeah.
EBC.
EBC.
EBC 27. Fix this.
EBC 27. Join XC.
[00:37:05] Speaker A: Join XC. EBC 27. So that means that they're a junior.
