[00:00:00] Speaker A: Honestly, new year, new me.
[00:00:02] Speaker B: New students came in, too.
[00:00:03] Speaker A: New students are here. Classes just started yesterday.
[00:00:07] Speaker B: And so we have seven new students, I believe. Oh, yeah.
[00:00:10] Speaker A: It's a good number.
[00:00:11] Speaker B: It's a good number.
[00:00:21] Speaker A: And welcome back, ladies and gentlemen, to in the Nest Emmaus athletic sports podcast. I'm your co host, Shane Douglas, here with my other co host, Matt. Matthew Thomason, the senior admissions counselor as well as the assistant men's basketball coach. How are you doing, Matt?
[00:00:43] Speaker B: I'm good, Shane. How are you?
[00:00:45] Speaker A: I'm good.
[00:00:45] Speaker B: We are back after a long break.
[00:00:48] Speaker A: Long break. No podcast together. It's just been like us interviewing people, which. They were good.
[00:00:55] Speaker B: They were.
[00:00:56] Speaker A: Enjoyed the interview.
[00:00:57] Speaker B: Very good. Please go check them out if you haven't already.
[00:00:59] Speaker A: Sure. Mine were amazing.
How was break, man? Was break good?
[00:01:05] Speaker B: It was good. Yeah, it was. We were here for majority of it. Went home to Rachel's parents for a few days, spent Christmas there, and then came back with my parents and then. Yeah, it was fun.
[00:01:17] Speaker A: I love Christmas. Christmas is a great time. I really want to experience a true Christmas market.
Dubuque had a Christmas market sometime earlier in December, but it was nice.
[00:01:30] Speaker B: I liked it, but I was indoor or outdoor?
[00:01:32] Speaker A: It was outdoor, but there's some indoor parts of it. But I was there with one of my roommates who was a missionary kid, and he's been to, like, I forget what I think he was talking about.
[00:01:42] Speaker B: Like the authentic ones.
[00:01:43] Speaker A: Yeah. He was talking about some in Romania or Budapest and Hungary. And he's like, these are like the best Christmas markets I've ever been to. And I'm like, dang, it's just so Christmasy. It's like literally walking on north Pole. It sounds super fun, but I don't know. My Christmas was good. Thanks for asking.
What did I do? I just went home. I went home, came back here to Des Moines. New Year's home is Des Moines. Thank you.
[00:02:10] Speaker B: Well, home is Dubuque, but you came from Des Moines.
[00:02:13] Speaker A: Yeah, that's right.
This is my 8th year in Dubuque. What is it for you?
[00:02:19] Speaker B: Ten, two years.
[00:02:21] Speaker A: But this is your 10th year.
[00:02:22] Speaker B: Well, going into the 10th year, fall of 14.
[00:02:26] Speaker A: Was that was your first year? Fall 14?
[00:02:28] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:02:29] Speaker A: Wait, really? So were you a junior when I came in?
[00:02:31] Speaker B: Then we were. Right. Yes.
[00:02:35] Speaker A: 2016 fall.
Sure, man, sure. Break was long. We just got a huge snowstorm. That was insane.
[00:02:45] Speaker B: Fourth largest snowstorm recorded for Dubuque happened yesterday.
[00:02:51] Speaker A: It doesn't sound that impressive, honestly. Fourth largest.
[00:02:53] Speaker B: The fourth.
[00:02:54] Speaker A: I mean, maybe that's kind of impressive. I don't know.
[00:02:56] Speaker B: I mean, it's like an average snowfall for the Rocky Mountains, but yeah, whatever. No, it's gorgeous outside.
[00:03:04] Speaker A: It is really cool.
[00:03:05] Speaker B: It looks amazing. Just how wintry it is.
[00:03:12] Speaker A: I'm satisfied. I'm done.
[00:03:16] Speaker B: I did not.
[00:03:17] Speaker A: I'm done with it now.
[00:03:18] Speaker B: Enjoy shoveling yesterday because there was a lot of it, but there was.
[00:03:22] Speaker A: My car was like packed in. It was tough to get out this morning.
[00:03:25] Speaker B: The snowplow on our street, like plowed our driveway in.
[00:03:28] Speaker A: So it was like, I don't have a snowplow. I park in the alley. So it was a struggle to get out, I bet.
[00:03:34] Speaker B: Dang.
[00:03:34] Speaker A: But no, I enjoy snow, but I'm kind of done with it. But it's going to snow more this.
[00:03:39] Speaker B: Weekend, apparently tomorrow and Saturday.
[00:03:42] Speaker A: But I'll be in the garden State, so it's going to be sunshine. And I'm joking. It's going to be probably even colder. So. Going to New Jersey for conference 26 below a missions conference. So if you're going to be there, come find me. Maybe we'll give you some more free.
[00:03:57] Speaker B: Merch and watch our game with Shane while you're there.
[00:04:00] Speaker A: And we'll talk about the game later. Yeah. So I guess break was pretty long. Typically students have about a month off. We have about a week. But with all that said, there's some changes that we've had within some teams. We've added a couple women's basketball, added.
[00:04:18] Speaker B: A couple players, which we're thrilled.
[00:04:20] Speaker A: Who? Who do we add?
[00:04:22] Speaker B: Kate Janssen, our sophomore cross country runner. And Kaden's horn.
[00:04:27] Speaker A: Good. Katie Horn finally plays. Love it. Shout out to Katie. Shout out to Kate. That's great. We still have the eagle, so a lot of new additions.
We have some more recruits on campus, everything. But honestly, new year, new me.
[00:04:41] Speaker B: New students came in too.
[00:04:42] Speaker A: New students are here. Classes just started. Yesterday.
[00:04:46] Speaker B: Today or yesterday? Yes. Today and yesterday were syllabus day. And so we have seven new students, I believe.
[00:04:53] Speaker A: Yeah, it's a good number.
[00:04:54] Speaker B: It's a good number.
[00:04:55] Speaker A: It's good. So, yeah, we're looking forward to this year and what it's going to be like. There's not much to talk about on this episode. So we're just going to kind of recap a little bit of the game that we had the other night against Wartburg. And then we're going to talk about what to look forward to in this upcoming season, the second half of basketball season for the men's and women's team. And then we're going to talk about some upcoming games coming up with both men's and women's basketball.
[00:05:19] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:05:19] Speaker A: And then we're going to talk about some awesome conferences and events that are going on on campus or places we're going to visit in the next coming months that we would love to see alum at or listeners and future students, future Eagles. So, with that said, let's talk about.
We still need a name for our little buddy there. A lot of people are calling him Eddie.
[00:05:43] Speaker B: Whatever. But not the name.
[00:05:45] Speaker A: Will. Do you have a name? Oh, Will is back, by the way. We have will, our trusted. Yes, whatever engineer.
[00:05:51] Speaker B: Thank goodness for the snow as games got canceled so he can be here and participate in.
[00:05:56] Speaker C: Yeah, well, now we don't get to have that game at Emeus anymore.
[00:05:59] Speaker A: Do you have a game? A game?
[00:06:01] Speaker C: Yeah, we rescheduled it.
[00:06:02] Speaker A: Okay. Will it be at Ema?
[00:06:04] Speaker C: No.
[00:06:05] Speaker A: So no more games?
[00:06:06] Speaker C: No more games at Emmaus?
[00:06:07] Speaker B: No.
[00:06:07] Speaker A: Well, yeah. Get a bigger gym.
[00:06:09] Speaker C: Kind of sucks, but get a bigger gym.
We're thankful to have the gym.
[00:06:14] Speaker A: Yeah, that's true. It's a blessing.
When's your guys'next home game?
[00:06:19] Speaker B: Tonight. Against. Tonight?
[00:06:22] Speaker C: Yeah, tonight.
[00:06:23] Speaker A: Tonight we're out of routine. We record this podcast on a Wednesday. So everyone's messing up. Not me. Usually I'm the one messing up.
[00:06:31] Speaker B: I'm always the one talking.
[00:06:33] Speaker A: I'm the one always talking about, like, present time Wednesday, but right now it's Thursday.
[00:06:38] Speaker B: Quarantine time. It's Thursday.
[00:06:39] Speaker A: It's Thursday. Probably around nine. I'm going to guess the time right now. If they start watching it right at nine when it drops.
Almost 9796, turning nine. Seven.
[00:06:51] Speaker B: Soon we'll see if a clock pops up on the screen or something.
[00:06:54] Speaker A: That'd be fun.
Wait, who do you play tomorrow? I mean, today? Dang it. I messed up. Gosh.
[00:07:00] Speaker C: Gosh, you're struggling.
[00:07:02] Speaker B: Thursday.
[00:07:03] Speaker A: Who do you play Thursday?
[00:07:04] Speaker B: Unity.
[00:07:04] Speaker C: We play unity home. Yes. We played them before break.
[00:07:09] Speaker B: Right.
[00:07:10] Speaker A: Come say hi. I know those be there? Some of them, yes.
[00:07:13] Speaker B: Got to watch coach. Assistant coach.
[00:07:16] Speaker A: That's your wife?
[00:07:17] Speaker B: That's my wife.
[00:07:18] Speaker A: All right, enough dilly daling. My goodness, what day is it again?
[00:07:22] Speaker B: Now I'm just playing.
[00:07:23] Speaker A: It's been a break, guys.
[00:07:24] Speaker B: We're like, Monday.
[00:07:25] Speaker A: We're like, just stretching. We're coming out of hibernation, shaking the snow off. We just had a snow day. Thank you.
[00:07:32] Speaker B: Yesterday was work from home day because of how much it snowed.
[00:07:35] Speaker A: Did you work?
[00:07:36] Speaker B: I did.
[00:07:36] Speaker A: Same. Okay, that's good. Let's not go into detail now.
[00:07:39] Speaker B: Home day.
[00:07:43] Speaker A: Okay, Monday.
[00:07:44] Speaker B: So Monday we went up to Waverly, Iowa, and played division three opponent Wartburg College, which the second time we've ever played them. We played them back in 2015, my sophomore year.
[00:07:56] Speaker A: And how'd that game go?
[00:07:58] Speaker B: It was crazy because we were tied with like ten minutes ago in the first half, and their coach was upset because they were really good that year, but then they played like a true d three and then ended up winning by a lot. Okay, so it's kind of one of those games where the reason why one of this game is to prepare us for the conference play, especially this first weekend when we play Manhattan and Barkley, who are two very good conference teams. And so we came back a little earlier than we normally do, had a game ahead of our conference schedule starting.
[00:08:28] Speaker A: So it was good.
[00:08:29] Speaker B: We went up there and worked on a number of things.
They've had a more rough season when it comes to the division three Iowa conference that they're in, but they're still a really good team. They're a shorter d three team, so we were able to compete better. But still, when you have, what, 19 guys that are on the roster, they're a good team. And I think we played really well. It was 13 point game at halftime. It was a 13 point game, about ten minutes to go, and then they kind of went on a 15 to four run, took that lead to about 30. And so that's kind of where it sat the rest of the game. So you're like, oh, 30 was like 92, 65 or something like that, that you're like, oh, great, 30 point loss. But within context, especially in recent context of all of these NCAA teams that have been playing like d two teams and d one teams and all the bad rep or negative rep that people don't understand this level, which there's a lot of talent this level. Yeah, but no, I think we played good for how it went. And so definitely things that we did well that we are going to carry on into this week and this weekend in conference play. But then there are different things, like, we really need to work on or we need to adjust. We know, like, okay, this isn't what we do. We need to adjust into doing something to counter that.
[00:09:53] Speaker A: And just as the reference goes of new year, new me is like, this is only our second year with coach Parker in at coach. And honestly, kind of like, I look at it as kind of like the first, the first official year, last year was kind of like a little spotty.
[00:10:09] Speaker B: It's hard because when you come in as a new coach and you herit a team, especially when he was hired, wasn't really able to bring in any of his recruits. So there were still some of the recruits that were coming in for under coach gra. And so it's like this cycle, able to bring in his own recruits the next year. Able to bring in his.
[00:10:25] Speaker A: Exactly. So what I'm trying to say is this is like the first year for our athletic department to be fully staffed. Everyone with time under their belt with.
[00:10:34] Speaker B: Multiple years of coaching too. Exactly.
[00:10:36] Speaker A: So I'm looking forward to what this team becomes new year, but more like it's a new program and it just starting with you, coach Parker, pushing it, trailing it or really getting it started.
[00:10:50] Speaker B: Especially like with how the season works out. I mean, you have October 31 until December 15 is like a season and then you have three weeks off basically. And then it's January 3 or January 2 until March 18. So it's kind of like a lot of times historically we've treated like two different seasons because it kind of almost is like you build up to that end of December and then you don't have anything for three weeks. So it's like, okay, what can we do in that week before we start playing games again? To get back into shape, to get back into the flow of things.
[00:11:22] Speaker A: Yeah, and the thing is, we have a lot of young guys who are taking some high responsibility roles.
[00:11:28] Speaker B: Exactly.
[00:11:30] Speaker A: Responsible words, responsible roles on the team, big roles. With coach Parker, this is really his kind of first year with his first recruiting class. A lot of growth. I know you guys been working a lot trying to get more recruits in. And then with that conversation of what is the NCA and where does the talent fall in line with the normal conferences with NCAA?
What do we compare with? We're division two NCAA. But if we would be in NCAA, and that's the thing, we've had conversations where we would be a d three.
There's alarm spectrum of the really good ones and like the decent ones, the middle ones. Wartberg is kind of, I feel like they've played kind of in the middle of the pack some years. They've been in the front. I know their women's team has been.
[00:12:33] Speaker B: Very successful, 18th in the nation right now in all division three.
[00:12:36] Speaker A: Who's this?
[00:12:37] Speaker B: University of Dubuquentown. So there you go. Yeah.
[00:12:39] Speaker A: And I know Wartburg has been super successful, really good in the past decade.
And then you see other teams like at our same level of, I mean, dare I say crown. And Crown is having a great season. They are.
[00:12:54] Speaker B: Yeah, they are. Dual fielder d three. And they're destroying in their conference up there.
[00:12:59] Speaker A: Exactly. And I feel like when our team has the full attention, full attention to it when it comes to recruiting and coaching and Parker is almost there, you're almost there with. I feel like next year is going to be the year with a full year under the bell in that class.
We're competing with the top of the teams. We made it to nationals a couple of years ago, right. We won conference a couple of times. So we're there. Right.
[00:13:29] Speaker B: And it's not like teams that are level beat d three s all the time. It's not a surprise if you beat them or if you lose to them.
[00:13:38] Speaker A: It's just finding talent and having your freshmen and your young players grow.
We talk about him all the time. He's kind of like the golden boy of Emmaus used for every stinking poster. But Landon not really used or utilized his freshman year. And then all of a sudden it.
[00:13:52] Speaker B: Has like he put in some work on becoming a basketball player.
[00:13:56] Speaker A: Huge blow up season last year and has very, not just a player you need on the court, but also a leader.
[00:14:05] Speaker B: Big leader. Yes.
[00:14:07] Speaker A: So you find those players, like, throughout the year, throughout the student body and through the recruits. It's just all about getting some more.
[00:14:15] Speaker B: Keystone players, getting some high, talented, high character players that come in and want to see that they can make a difference and then want to do that.
[00:14:25] Speaker A: Because I think you guys have a great foundation right now.
[00:14:28] Speaker B: Oh, yes.
[00:14:28] Speaker A: You got to grow off of it. And that's where it starts. Look at the volleyball team. They started that foundation last year, right? Having a super, went through the lowest.
[00:14:36] Speaker B: Of the lows and then did so well this year. And oh, boy, next year.
[00:14:40] Speaker A: And look at the women's team, too. Hasn't really brought in a lot of recruits yet, has grown a lot from last year to this year.
[00:14:48] Speaker B: And yeah, with having hardly new recruits two years ago, hardly new recruits this year, last year, but this upcoming year, the pool they have right now is they have a really good pool of players right now that are recruiting. So it's encouraging. It really is new year, new me.
[00:15:05] Speaker A: But also, this is the second end of the season, so lot to look forward to. The second and everything. We've kind of touched base on of coach Parker getting more time under his belt in recruiting, of coaching and you guys working together and same with coach Sharon and the whole athletic department and how this is like the first year we've really had the department together and I can't stop saying it enough, but the athletic department just is like, I look at you guys and you guys all have the right mindset and likeness of where you want the athletic department to go. Yes.
And how to get there and how to treat the students and the team and create the foundation so it doesn't fall on sports, but it falls on the bible.
[00:15:49] Speaker B: Exactly. And it's not like four sports view it one way, one sport views it the other way. No, it's all, every sport. We're on the same page to do it the exact same way.
[00:15:58] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:15:58] Speaker B: It's so important.
[00:15:59] Speaker A: You don't see that in a lot of places. So I see a lot of success coming this second end of the season with both men's team and women's team. Women's team being able to add two more girls to the team after losing a brill last season who graduated, and the men's team. You guys didn't add anybody, but you have the same roster.
Super excited for you guys to continue to grow your chemistry and the brotherhood. You guys went on some amazing trips before winter break, which was awesome.
Have we even talked about that?
[00:16:29] Speaker B: I don't know if we did or not, but it was a good time together. Yeah. Going on that trip.
[00:16:33] Speaker A: Talk about real quickly. Yeah.
[00:16:36] Speaker B: We played game in Illinois and then went up to Michigan. Played two games, went to a g league game up there, went to some Giordano's, went to.
[00:16:44] Speaker A: Why is that?
The game? Game, game. Pizza.
[00:16:48] Speaker B: It was fun. Yeah. Just that time of bonding together, being together, not having to worry about school, like knowing, just able to focus on being there together, growing our relationships with each other, and then basketball.
[00:16:58] Speaker A: And those are trips people look forward to because I remember being the manager for the soccer team. I would always look forward to the away trips, but sometimes there's too much. But even as a student and you get to go to a camp and learn more about your major, something that you love. For these guys, they love basketball and they get to hang out with some of their closest friends and they get to go out and watch basketball and kind of like a mini vacation. And it's like something you look forward to that if it becomes a thing like year round, something that can really bring the team together and create that idea.
[00:17:26] Speaker B: Definitely something like a tradition that's been made, that's been formed, that's going to continue happening.
[00:17:30] Speaker A: I love seeing that, too. But with the second end of the season, we're going to see a lot of more conference play.
[00:17:37] Speaker B: Conference play starts this weekend and for the rest of the season. I think we have a couple of regional games. So, yeah, conference. We start this weekend. We're down at Faith Baptist in Ankeny. They're hosting kind of like the beginning of the year conference classic. So we'll be there. Faith will be there, obviously. Then Barkley, Manhattan. So we'll play Manhattan. We'll play Barkley and then jump right into it. Then I think we have, what, like 14 games in four or five weeks? So it's like, yeah, we have a lot of games going on.
[00:18:07] Speaker A: I remember talking about our travel schedule for admissions, and you're like, I'm gone this day, this day, this day. And I'm looking at him like, there's no enrollment, but it's all for basketball. But you're balancing it a little bit, which is cool. But, no, that's like, you guys are traveling.
[00:18:23] Speaker B: It's always exciting when conference play starts.
[00:18:25] Speaker A: Yeah. And you really see where you match up with the other teams. Because I feel like in previous years, we've had a team that can compete with d, three teams and the top of the NACA. This year, I feel like we're going to be able to compete more closely with our conference.
[00:18:43] Speaker B: It's always funny in previous episodes, but how sometimes regionals is like, the regional teams are way better than the conference teams, or sometimes conference teams are so better than the regional teams. So it's always interesting to see that going into.
[00:18:55] Speaker A: Sometimes it's scattered. Sometimes there's, like, one really good team. And Calvary's been good in recent years for men's basketball in Manhattan.
[00:19:04] Speaker B: Always.
[00:19:05] Speaker A: Always. Yeah. They got Kansas State, right?
Uh, and then they're like our twin sibling.
I don't know what Faith is because Moody's like our older brother. Faith is like the twin sibling. Marinatha is like our annoying cousin.
I don't know. But then Manhattan is like the cool cousin. That's, like, good everything. Yeah, it's like, dang, come on. But we just don't get the spotlight. Look at us.
[00:19:33] Speaker B: Come on. We're here, too. No, explain.
[00:19:35] Speaker A: But, yeah, they're the older cousin who has their stuff together, and they've been to college. They got a doctorate at, like, age 22. You're like, what, the junk family?
[00:19:47] Speaker B: But, no, it's good. Yeah. Conference play starts this weekend, which we're excited about. So if you're in the Des Moines area, that's. We'll be at Friday, Saturday. So we play Friday at two, and I think we play Saturday at two as.
[00:20:00] Speaker A: So that's awesome. Yeah, that's along. So second end of the season. You see that. The same with the women's team then, too.
[00:20:06] Speaker B: They don't play till. Yeah.
[00:20:08] Speaker A: So who do we play Saturday again?
[00:20:11] Speaker B: We play Manhattan on Friday and then Barclay on Saturday.
[00:20:14] Speaker A: Okay. And so the women's team will play Barclay.
[00:20:16] Speaker B: Yep. On Saturday.
[00:20:17] Speaker A: Okay, so that's the weekend trips.
Anything early next week?
[00:20:22] Speaker B: No. Then late next week will be Kansas City Joplin. So back on the road again.
[00:20:29] Speaker A: When's our next home game?
Not for a while.
[00:20:32] Speaker B: Not for a while.
So the 23rd is a Tuesday. We play at Faith again. And then that Saturday we play home during winterfest.
[00:20:39] Speaker A: Are we traveling more or are we away more in the second end of the season?
[00:20:43] Speaker B: Kind of same.
[00:20:44] Speaker A: Okay. Yeah. You guys are starting off heavy travel.
[00:20:47] Speaker B: And then kind of like, I mean, it's similar. We still have to do the home and away games with the conference.
[00:20:53] Speaker A: Do you help put together schedule?
[00:20:54] Speaker B: I do not.
[00:20:55] Speaker A: Dang, it sounds like it would be fun.
[00:20:57] Speaker B: No, I get people that, I get coaches that message me, hey, can we play your team? I'm say talk to the head coach.
[00:21:02] Speaker A: Yeah. We got like big schools that message.
[00:21:04] Speaker B: You or just other schools, like someone like the division one NCAA teams that are in AIA or whatever. So.
[00:21:11] Speaker A: Yeah, man, that's fun. It seems like it would be fun putting it, but. So a lot of conference play coming up this end of the season. Can't wait to see where we match up against our siblings, our family. So that's going to be exciting to see where we all fall in line for our conference play. But yeah, with that, we got upcoming games. Just keep a lookout, I guess, on our social media, Facebook, twitter, Instagram. Where we're going to be. Where we're going to be playing. You said ankeny Des Moines area this weekend. So alum out there that either go to whatever church or whatever school. Come on. Know we got Christian. We've got some alum there. Future students, too. Maybe if you come by and watch the game, Matt will give you an eagle. I don't know, maybe everyone's been drooling over these. Will, you got one?
[00:22:02] Speaker B: If you really want one, you need to apply at Emmaus.edu and get accepted. And will, you applied and you got accepted and he deposited our future eagle over there.
[00:22:12] Speaker A: You got an eagle?
[00:22:13] Speaker C: I did get it.
[00:22:14] Speaker A: Did you name him?
[00:22:14] Speaker B: Do you carry it around?
[00:22:18] Speaker C: I do not remember what I named it, though.
[00:22:21] Speaker A: You don't care about second.
[00:22:23] Speaker B: No. Second CDU with wings.
[00:22:25] Speaker C: Honestly, it might have been my mom and then I just went with it and now I just don't remember what it was.
[00:22:31] Speaker B: Asking stephanie what she named her son's eagle.
[00:22:34] Speaker A: I like the hoodie. Yeah, he is really soft. Okay, well, we're going to cut it short. We're almost done here, but we're going to tell you a little bit about some events and conferences coming up. We have 26 below as well as the Iowa youth rally coming up at the end of February. We will be representing there. Emmaus, be there. I remember a couple of years ago, I was at the Iowa youth rally and the men's basketball team was in regional play and regional championship.
[00:23:00] Speaker B: You guys streamed it?
[00:23:01] Speaker A: We streamed it right before the message. We were like, the method guy paused. He's like, okay, put it up. And we watched. Everyone was watching on the big screen before the message. It was like, everyone. It was so awesome. It was so funny. It was great. So we'll go through that experience again. I o youth rally. I don't even need to shout.
[00:23:22] Speaker B: It's the best.
[00:23:22] Speaker A: Yeah, so many people go out. Tony Myers, 26 below as well through CMML, christian missions and minilands. An awesome event. They're going to have some great speakers. Alum, alum or current. Yeah, they're all current.
Alum of the school. Luca Drago, who used to be a coworker with us, one of my closest.
[00:23:43] Speaker B: Friends on the soccer team for a.
[00:23:44] Speaker A: Year, we forget about that.
[00:23:49] Speaker B: He was one of the main speakers for that event.
[00:23:52] Speaker A: So 26 below. And then we have our ensemble team. So our choir team will be traveling around Illinois as well as Wisconsin area. Not sure on the specific areas, but I know it's going to be near Chicago. I know we're going to talk Milwaukee, wawatosa, possibly. So any listeners there, come find me. I'll be on that little tour. So I'll have Emmaus Booth and we'll have some more information. And if you come up and mention the podcast, maybe I'll hook you up with some special. See.
[00:24:23] Speaker B: We'll see.
Youth rally in Des Moines will be, I think the second week in March or middle of march, beginning of March. So we'll be there. Hope you guys be there. Such a fun, great event down there at Grace church.
[00:24:38] Speaker A: And then the other one in Illinois, Oswego. Yeah, that would be around in beginning of April. And then the most important one, the big event, Discovery May's weekend, which is March 21 to the 23rd.
[00:24:51] Speaker B: Let's go.
[00:24:52] Speaker A: And registration is open, ladies and gentlemen, please register.
[00:24:56] Speaker B: Register ASAP. Because registrations have been flying in. They have been we don't want anyone to have to turn away because we ran out of room. We might have to better register as quickly as possible so you can get a room here and get your ticket to Shane and Shane.
[00:25:14] Speaker A: We might have to end registration for how quick and how much is going to fill up. We had over 100 last year and we ran out of room. And this year we have Shane and Shane and hoping we can build off that momentum from last year. I just think it's going up.
[00:25:34] Speaker B: As soon as you can, please will you going?
[00:25:37] Speaker C: Yes, I have not registered yet. I saw the email.
[00:25:41] Speaker A: Are you kidding me?
[00:25:42] Speaker C: I saw the email yesterday and I just didn't do it yet.
[00:25:46] Speaker A: Who's your admissions counselor?
[00:25:47] Speaker B: After this we are registering for due.
[00:25:53] Speaker A: But no register for due. It's going to be an awesome event. It's only a couple of days. Thursday evening you get some chickfila. Friday you get attend chapel, go to some classes, be encouraged by the word of God, meet some people, have some good lunch, the concert, the concert as well as some other activities going on. Then Saturday will be a nice recap time and devotion with some donuts too. Donuts? I think that we usually do. Yeah. So it's really quick and easy. Honestly, kind of just one full day thing. So if you feel like I don't got time for that, you do have time. Any one of you can drive up after school on Thursday.
Honestly, you can talk to your counselors or your teacher, your principal, whoever, and get an excused absence for a college.
[00:26:35] Speaker B: A lot of schools do do that.
You do that.
[00:26:39] Speaker A: That is nice. And then you're home. You're home before dinner on Saturday. So lots of stuff to do there. Register for, you know, like and subscribe wherever.
[00:26:49] Speaker B: That's a thing. That was funny.
[00:26:52] Speaker A: Watch our reels. Our reels are kind of funny. Will puts in a lot of work for the reels. We're just plugging everything right now. It's been break. Everyone's been snowed in and everyone's just know coming off of the new year's and the Christmas appetite. So everyone's just like a little lazy and has forgotten a lot of stuff. So we just are reminding you of the amazing things that you can accomplish here and see and experience here at Emmaus with these events.
[00:27:17] Speaker B: Emmaus.edu. Visit that for our website, emmausathletics.com for our athletic stuff. And make sure you go to concerninghim.com to find the latest and the greatest articles as well as podcasts for a lot of different topics out there. I know that one that Eric's been working on is he's interviewing three different people on why you should homeschool, why you should public school or why you should christian school.
[00:27:42] Speaker A: That's interesting.
That's awesome. And I know they're going to be starting a lot of new podcasts coming up. Be there's a health podcast in the.
[00:27:49] Speaker B: Works, Coach Reggie, which I'm excited about. It's awesome.
[00:27:53] Speaker A: I don't know if we can even announce of stuff but oh, well.
[00:27:56] Speaker B: Oh well.
[00:27:56] Speaker A: I wasn't even going to say coach Reggie. I was going to say health at podcast. So that's on Matt. That's on Matt. If you guys get mad, follow all those links. Those will be in the description below. And yeah, looking forward to the second end of the season. See where we fall with conference and see where the team falls.
[00:28:10] Speaker B: We'll see you guys next week.
[00:28:12] Speaker A: Thank you.
