[00:00:00] Speaker A: Foreign.
[00:00:08] Speaker B: And welcome back to in the Nest, your front row seats to Emmaus athletics. I'm your co host Shane Douglas here with Magic Tomlinson.
[00:00:15] Speaker A: What's up, Shane? How we doing?
[00:00:17] Speaker B: I'm doing well. How are you, buddy?
[00:00:18] Speaker A: I'm good. I'm glad we're back. I know schedules have been pretty crazy. We had Thanksgiving break, but we are back with another episode of In.
[00:00:25] Speaker B: We're back and we're better.
It has been a while. It's been a while. We.
[00:00:29] Speaker A: So thank you guys for your patience.
[00:00:31] Speaker B: Thank you so much. So, so, so sorry for not being consistent. We lack in that area but we have busy schedules and we, we try. We try. So talk to the powers that be to make it a priority to get this done. Let's go.
One of the biggest reasons why it took a while, like you said, Thanksgiving, but as well as some.
[00:00:54] Speaker B: Teams going forward. Yeah, right. You know, pushing the boundaries, continuing their season in the tournament.
But before we get to that, because that's what we're here today to talk about. Sports, sports, sports.
We got a new background, like angled now a little bit.
[00:01:11] Speaker A: I like it.
[00:01:11] Speaker B: Changing some stuff up.
[00:01:13] Speaker A: Just some nice new upgrades in the studio with lights and the camera, whatever you call it. Lens. So kind of nice.
[00:01:20] Speaker B: Oh, it is. I guess so.
[00:01:22] Speaker A: I mean, it's so bright in here.
[00:01:23] Speaker B: I mean, they can't see the lens or anything.
[00:01:26] Speaker A: They can see my forehead shining this light right here.
[00:01:28] Speaker B: How's your Thanksgiving, Matt? Was it good, Shane?
[00:01:30] Speaker A: It was great. It was. You know, actually I enjoyed that it snowed. I did enjoy it. That it's.
[00:01:35] Speaker B: I like that because after.
[00:01:37] Speaker A: I know because we didn't travel. In laws came into town. My parents are in the Caribbean right now on a cruise, so they said see. But yeah, in laws came to town so it's fun to see them. But yeah, yeah. Snowed a foot in Dubuque that, what, last Friday, Friday into Saturday.
[00:01:53] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:01:54] Speaker A: And so, yeah, pretty crazy. But you know, it was awesome to spend time with family.
[00:01:58] Speaker B: It just didn't stop.
[00:01:59] Speaker A: But yeah, literally, I shovel so many times.
[00:02:01] Speaker B: I got stranded in Des Moines. But when I say stranded, I mean like it was a choice. You're like, oh, no, I wasn't one of the. I wasn't one of the people that tried to try to drive back.
[00:02:09] Speaker A: I know there's some crazy people.
[00:02:11] Speaker B: Oh, you should. I mean, we talked about it. Yeah. So many accidents and people who. So many cars and ditches. Is.
It is crazy driving after a storm and seeing all the aftermath. Yeah, right. It's it's wild. It's kind of like being at the end of a cross country race. Right.
[00:02:25] Speaker A: Everyone's just on the ground.
[00:02:26] Speaker B: The aftermath.
That's kind of fun. That's like a good comparison.
[00:02:30] Speaker A: That is.
[00:02:31] Speaker B: Actually.
[00:02:31] Speaker A: I do appreciate student Life Enemies, how they invited students to come back early to campus to avoid the storm to get here early. And so I thought that was a really cool gesture of them to, you know, not charge anything for being here over break, but to say, hey, I know that the storm's crazy, so come early if you have to.
[00:02:49] Speaker B: Yeah, no, yeah. Shout out to student life and Emmaus. Trying to do it better. Yes, do it better. But you ruined my transition.
[00:02:56] Speaker A: Better.
[00:02:57] Speaker B: That was a, that was a great transition to going to cross country. But like, it's true though.
[00:03:00] Speaker A: Like it is.
[00:03:00] Speaker B: Cars in the ditch, the aftermath of a storm. Cross runner, runners passing out, throwing up, just like screaming at the end of the race.
[00:03:09] Speaker A: Except for them, it's at the end of the race for the cars. It's like during the race.
[00:03:13] Speaker B: Yeah. But it's like it's after. It's the aftermath.
[00:03:16] Speaker A: The aftermath.
[00:03:16] Speaker B: The aftermath.
[00:03:17] Speaker A: Speaking of that aftermath, Shane, tell us about the national race for cross country.
[00:03:23] Speaker B: It went pretty well.
[00:03:26] Speaker B: Pretty well for a lot of the runners, for sure. So speaking of the men's, they finished sixth in the nation.
[00:03:32] Speaker A: Good job, men.
Which is so encouraging, especially after last year's run. Runner up and just, you know, losing, losing top three runners for a variety of reasons.
But for this team, you know, led by Caleb and Christian to come back and to finish as well as they did. Yeah, super encouraging.
[00:03:51] Speaker B: Or Christian, I believe PR'd.
[00:03:53] Speaker A: Christian did PR at the national race. So shout out to Christian.
[00:03:56] Speaker B: There we go. Shout out Christian.
There it is. Awesome. So the men raced. They did pretty well, like you said, led by Caleb and Christian all season. Nathan Bean taking a massive leap the last two races of the. The season. Seriously, as an individual runner, but also pushing the, pushing the pack, pushing the envelope too, for the, for the men. And talking to coach Dorardi, he really believes Nathan can cut off a lot more minutes for next.
[00:04:22] Speaker A: He hasn't run like the fact that he's, you know, with that race, he, he finished 25th. He ran a 30 minute and 8 second, 8K.
[00:04:30] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:04:30] Speaker A: Which is crazy. Which makes him the fourth fastest runner for a men's team ever. And the fact like he hasn't run in three years just shows like the, the potential and the ability that he has. Oh, yeah, he could literally shave off one to two minutes next year.
[00:04:43] Speaker B: It is exciting to see what the team could be like next year. But we're still talking about this year. We're not talking about the possibility. We don't know what the picture looks like, but I'll tell you this much.
[00:04:52] Speaker A: Yes.
[00:04:52] Speaker B: Be on the lookout for the men to be pushing, not for, not for a sixth place, not for a second place, not for a second place? But, but first place, maybe place next year. So watch out, Bob Jones. That's one of the things. And we'll talk more about that, by the way, later in the street. Yeah, that's one of the things. We'll talk more about cross country next year as we get into the season, the off season, and talk about recruits and more importantly next season. But Bob Jones, as you, as you, uh, insinuated, finished with their 10th straight national championship, which is what a crazy.
[00:05:28] Speaker A: Dynasty that is wild.
[00:05:30] Speaker B: And our coach, Jeremiah Girardi wants to end that. So we'll see what next year holds. We'll see what, what runners we get, what athletes we can bring in and we'll see what the team is like for next year. But a great season for the men. Fantastic and great finish for our allstar. Anna Coniglia.
[00:05:51] Speaker A: Yes, really quickly. Going to recap my notes of the men's time. So Nathan finished 25th with 30 minutes and eight seconds. His PR, as you said, Christian PR. He finished 29th with 30 minutes and 40 seconds. Isaac came in at 33rd with 30 minutes and 58%. Caleb Ness, our senior on the guys team in his last collegiate race, came in 36th and at 31 minutes and 30 seconds. And then Daniel finished at 32 minutes and 12 seconds.
[00:06:21] Speaker A: Very nice, very nice. But yes, looking at Anna, you know, our lone girl senior who's been the anchor of the program these last four years, finished her last cross country race, 18th place.
[00:06:32] Speaker B: Super sad.
[00:06:33] Speaker A: 22 minutes and 44 seconds. Yeah.
[00:06:35] Speaker B: Top 20 in a nation.
[00:06:36] Speaker A: Top 20 for the, I think the second straight year, I believe.
[00:06:39] Speaker B: Oh, yeah, Yep.
[00:06:40] Speaker A: I think.
[00:06:40] Speaker B: Pretty sure she was, I think she was cracking close to cracking top 10 last year.
[00:06:44] Speaker A: I think so.
[00:06:46] Speaker B: But.
[00:06:48] Speaker B: Good season, good season for the women's cross country team. Had to battle a lot of adversity and injuries and outside, outside noise and other stuff going on. So really cool that we had three, three racers for the women at cross at the nationals, ra national race. And awesome to see Anna finish strong for her four years as well as Lily in her first year running for Emmaus and. And Riley for a second year running. We talked about Riley a lot this year and how her story was incredible of how she has really made a massive leap into this second year and we, we're excited to see what she does next year. Same with Lily. Lily was a, a runner previously at another school and then came here and.
[00:07:26] Speaker A: Battled battling some injuries the last couple years.
[00:07:28] Speaker B: Didn't race last year. Race this year and we'll see if she can make that leap too. I think the coaches, all the coaches have sounded have been pretty optimistic for them. And if our, our one of our freshmen incoming students from this last year, Joy to race next year, next year we'll see if she's healthy.
[00:07:48] Speaker A: I'm really glad they took everyone.
[00:07:50] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:07:51] Speaker A: Two nationals just had that experience for sure at the race so that they, so you know, someone like Joy coming into next year knows okay this is what it takes.
[00:07:57] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:07:58] Speaker A: After she gets healthy she's gonna be.
[00:08:00] Speaker B: Flying and like and talking to the coaches. It's nationals has always been more at our level or even in, in ccaa has always been more than just a tournament.
[00:08:11] Speaker A: Yep.
[00:08:11] Speaker B: It's, it's been, it's been service. It's been coming together as believers for. To worship the Lord, to thank him about the ncca and there's a lot of cool stuff that goes on at national tournaments and we hear a lot from the cross country team and what they do. They're always excited about the, the service projects.
[00:08:27] Speaker A: I think this year was a food drive.
[00:08:29] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:08:29] Speaker A: And they gave out food to the shelters that were there.
[00:08:31] Speaker B: Super excited, man. Then like food banks to transition into our. Another team that went to nationals. Our volleyball team, they went down there and just the, the sisterhood they had with the other teams, the friendships they made with like Pensacola and previously Bob Jones and and many other of the, the teams. It's really cool to see how these, these young believers, like minded individuals can come together and be rivals on the court, but best friends off the court and.
[00:09:00] Speaker A: Yeah, exactly. And like obviously I've never experienced it in that length at nationals, but like yeah. You know, even like our mini conference original tournaments, like you spend three straight days with the same people. You know, for nationals it's like almost a week. And so the fact that they get to know the people they're playing against but you know, different jersey, same team, you know, we're all there to serve the Lord and to show off his name and so getting those relationships, like there's still guys that I talk to from when I played back in the day that you know just from building those relationships. So it's Cool to see, you know, them talk about, get to know the other teams and it goes beyond the game, whatnot. Yeah.
[00:09:32] Speaker B: And it is proven by. Know these testimonies that we, we hear about that we, we tell you guys, our audience of. It's more than a game.
It's. It goes beyond the court, beyond the field, beyond the track.
And it's, it's a beautiful thing to see how they can honor glorified award through that. But our, our volleyball team, the women, uh, had an excellent run, had an excellent showing out at nationals.
[00:09:56] Speaker A: They did. And the third time in school history that our team has qualified for nationals. First. The first previous two times. 2017, 2018, they actually did not win regionals. They were the automatic bid.
[00:10:07] Speaker B: Yes.
[00:10:08] Speaker A: Based on power ratings. And so this year was the first year that we won the regional tournament to, to automatically qualify.
[00:10:16] Speaker B: And so exciting.
[00:10:17] Speaker A: Which was exciting. And this, this year, you know, they were the seventh seed in the national tournament, so the second highest finish they've had.
[00:10:24] Speaker B: You know, we've only had two athletic programs win regionals.
[00:10:29] Speaker A: Men's team, men's basketball and women's volleyball.
[00:10:32] Speaker B: Only two teams have won regionals. Yeah. I don't think women's basketball, surprisingly, they won.
[00:10:37] Speaker A: They had a bunch of years in conference that they won.
[00:10:39] Speaker B: Yeah. Oh, yeah, we. We were. Yeah.
But they've made nationals.
[00:10:43] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:10:44] Speaker B: With a bit.
[00:10:44] Speaker A: Because they lost.
[00:10:45] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:10:46] Speaker A: They had the national bid that year, I believe.
[00:10:47] Speaker B: So we're getting off track, but let's get back to volleyball.
[00:10:49] Speaker A: I'm trying to remember. Yeah. Anyway, so, yeah, 2017, they were the eight seed. They went one and two. 2018, they were the four seed. They went two and two. Lost in the semifinals.
[00:10:58] Speaker B: And in 2018.
[00:10:59] Speaker A: Yep. And lost in the semifinals.
[00:11:01] Speaker B: I didn't know they were.
[00:11:02] Speaker A: And this year we're the seventh seed. And yeah, a lot of crazy things happened this week or that week that they played. You know, they started off the tournament against the defending national champion, Shane Arlington Baptist.
[00:11:14] Speaker B: What a game.
[00:11:15] Speaker A: What a game a game it was. I think we, we popped him in the first set. Surprised them 1.
[00:11:22] Speaker B: The first set of. From the defending champions.
And everybody, everybody was just like sleeping hold up. And then they, they, they saw the score.
[00:11:33] Speaker B: Reach the end or like they saw the score was really close throughout the entire first set. And it was 24. 24. And everyone was like, wow, this is a game.
And we won the first set.
[00:11:44] Speaker A: It was awesome.
[00:11:44] Speaker B: And everybody started saying that this is.
[00:11:47] Speaker A: Check out this amaz team.
[00:11:48] Speaker B: We gotta, we gotta, we gotta watch out, watch out. Exactly.
[00:11:50] Speaker A: So yeah, we unfortunately end up losing 3:1. But the, you know, two of the three loss sets were super close. I think it was less than 2 points. So it was really encouraging to see them perform at that high level against a very, very talent. I mean Arlington was the two seed, I believe.
Were they three?
I think they were two seed. Yeah. Because defending national champion.
[00:12:10] Speaker B: But like nothing I'm not taking away from Arlington. Arlington because they're a great team, the Patriots. But the way our women played, they definitely could have won the first three sets.
[00:12:20] Speaker A: Oh yeah.
[00:12:21] Speaker B: And can't live in the past, you know. But it would been really sweet just letting you guys know the. We lost. We had to go into extra innings the first three sets because it was so close.
So we were always just one to two points away from winning.
[00:12:36] Speaker A: I think the second set or the third set went. Yeah. 26, 24, 27, 25.
[00:12:40] Speaker B: I don't remember.
[00:12:40] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:12:40] Speaker B: One or two. One or two points from. From away from winning these, these last two sets and sweeping them three zero.
So just to tell you a little bit about the, the skill that we have in this team and we're bringing back mostly everybody next year.
[00:12:53] Speaker A: Pretty much everyone's returning. Yeah. Which is super exciting.
[00:12:55] Speaker B: But let's get into the second.
[00:12:56] Speaker A: Yeah. So Kate had 14 kills. Lindsay had 12 kills. Lindsay showed up this tournament. It was awesome.
[00:13:01] Speaker B: Yes.
[00:13:02] Speaker A: And then Sayla had 10 kills. Oh yeah. So the day two because they play three pool games and then the top seeds will go into the semis to. To play for the national.
[00:13:11] Speaker B: It's tough that we got the draw to play one game day one and two games. Day two.
Given a hindsight that.
That we had to play Friday as well.
[00:13:21] Speaker A: Right. Yeah. So yeah. Saturday or. Excuse me. Yeah. Friday morning. Nope, sorry. Thursday morning we played Pensacola Christian in our pool. We ended up losing that game 3 to 0. They were pretty good team. Really, really good.
[00:13:35] Speaker B: They won. They. They ended up winning the got first place in our pool.
[00:13:39] Speaker A: Pool. Yep. And so they actually. Yeah. They went undefeated in the pool play.
[00:13:42] Speaker B: Yep.
[00:13:42] Speaker A: So. But see highlights. You know, Kate had eight kills, Salad seven kills. Lindsay had six kills. You know, the score doesn't show in that match how well they played.
But they, I mean they did play well against Pensacola. But like we said, Pensacola. I think Pensacola had the.
No, Manhattan had the reigning player of the year. Pensacola had like the couple at two All Americans first team. And so yeah, very talented team. Very well coached team. And so that was in the morning and then the evening played Alice Lloyd and then Shane, what a game that was. That was crazy. There was like all these, like, what ifs? Because the way that it worked out, Alice Lloyd had to. If Alice Lloyd beat us, then they would have automatically gone to the semifinal. But if we beat them, it was like this whole, like, okay, it's all because in our pool, like, everyone beat everyone beside, like the three team, three bottom teams. Bottom teams. You know, Pence or Pensacola went 3, 0. And then Arlington Emmaus and Alice Lloyd all beat each other. And so if we were to win, it would throw this whole, like, monkey wrench into, into the, the tournament. And so. And that's what happened.
[00:14:46] Speaker B: Shane. We beat him in 5, 1, 3.
[00:14:48] Speaker A: 1, which was super exciting. The third nationals win for five.
[00:14:53] Speaker B: No. Yeah.
[00:14:53] Speaker A: No, we won five sets for Alice Lloyd.
[00:14:57] Speaker B: Yeah. Didn't we?
[00:14:57] Speaker A: No, we wanted four sets.
[00:14:59] Speaker B: Okay.
[00:14:59] Speaker A: We won the first set, lost the second set, won the next two sets.
Good. And then. Yeah, and so the fact that we won because Arlington Emmaus and Alice Lloyd were all 1 and 2, how to do a playing game, which happened last year for Arlington last year had to go in the playing game and then they end up winning the national championship. But yeah, it was really crazy this year because it wasn't one playing game. It was two playing games.
[00:15:26] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:15:27] Speaker A: And so after we beat Alice Lloyd Friday night, it was super late because the games were late.
[00:15:30] Speaker B: It was at like 10:30.
[00:15:32] Speaker A: It was crazy. They're like, do we play now or do we play in the morning?
[00:15:34] Speaker B: And Alice Lloyd wanted to play now. They wanted to play that night.
They just lost three sets. But I mean, they had.
[00:15:41] Speaker A: They had a depth, but we also had the momentum flowing.
[00:15:43] Speaker B: We had the momentum, but we were tired.
[00:15:45] Speaker A: We didn't have that.
[00:15:46] Speaker B: We didn't have the depth that Alice Lloyd had. Alice Lloyd was like, we can do it. And honestly, you never know. Nope, you never know, like, because the next day.
[00:15:54] Speaker A: Yeah, the next day it was the playing game. So Lloyd had to play in a playing game. Winner of that playing game would play Arlington in the playing game. Winner of that playing game would go to the semifinals. So I think this was like first time ever they've had double playing games. And so, yeah, it was a one set match, first to 25, one by two at 13 points. They swapped sides and so it was pretty close.
[00:16:16] Speaker B: Halfway through.
[00:16:17] Speaker A: Halfway through it was.
[00:16:18] Speaker B: Alice Lloyd kind of ran away.
[00:16:19] Speaker A: Yeah, towards the second half of this set, they, yeah, they were ready to play in the morning and they.
[00:16:25] Speaker B: Yeah, well, they got the depth. And that's the thing is you, you You, We. We. We think about that. We talk about how, if they would have played right there Thursday night after Emmaus won, could he may as pull through. And I feel like that's something that was pretty tough for our women's team is having that depth and having to finish games. They did well at the back end of the half of the season.
[00:16:46] Speaker A: Right.
[00:16:47] Speaker B: But not having that depth or even that option.
[00:16:50] Speaker A: We have to make it tough because.
[00:16:51] Speaker B: Coach Hannah says he's got 18 jerseys. Right.
[00:16:54] Speaker A: Momentum is pretty crazy, though.
[00:16:55] Speaker B: That's true.
[00:16:55] Speaker A: We had the momentum. They were playing from behind. They were scrambling because we were beating them well. So, yeah, we. You never know.
[00:17:01] Speaker B: I mean, we look back and we're like, maybe we should have played them right then. Because hindsight, we lost the next morning. You give them rest when we get rest. But they have depth.
[00:17:08] Speaker A: But if we won, they were. Maybe they're like, oh, we should have played. Yeah. So it goes both ways, but, yeah. Super exciting. What a fantastic year for our women's volleyball team. Shout out to them on the fantastic year.
Officially finished in sixth place.
[00:17:22] Speaker B: Yep.
[00:17:22] Speaker A: Which is super awesome. Shout out to all the parents and family that traveled down to Ozark to go to the game. Shout out to Kathy beach for this awesome shirt.
[00:17:33] Speaker B: I have one too, but Matt didn't tell me he was wearing it.
[00:17:35] Speaker A: Told you.
[00:17:36] Speaker B: No, you didn't.
[00:17:37] Speaker A: I did.
[00:17:37] Speaker B: No, you didn't.
[00:17:38] Speaker A: Coach Hannah gave it to. And I said for the podcast.
[00:17:41] Speaker B: No one get. It was on my desk.
[00:17:42] Speaker A: Yes. You said, what's this? And I said, it's the shirt from Kathy.
[00:17:46] Speaker B: Yeah. And it was great.
[00:17:47] Speaker A: Shout out Kathy for the shirt.
[00:17:48] Speaker B: We cried tears of joy. And then Matt's wearing it.
[00:17:53] Speaker A: A big shout out to Michelle striley for getting second team all American. Our first all American since 2018.
And that year was when Hannah Postma was the player of the year dog and coach Pittman was the coach of the year. So really great accomplishment for Michelle.
[00:18:10] Speaker B: Yeah. So really excited to see this women's team accomplish this year.
I think this year was what. What they wanted last year, and it's really awesome. So we're excited for next year.
[00:18:21] Speaker A: Next year, Nationals in Texas.
[00:18:23] Speaker B: Coach Hannah knows what. What we need.
[00:18:26] Speaker A: The girls now know what we need.
[00:18:27] Speaker B: Girls know what we need. They've had the experience, and next year could be the year, man. Next year could be a dangerous year where they can make a. A deeper run than we did this last year. And I guess crazy how deep we made it. Yeah. We'll see what the Lord has in store. For a recruiting season and everything. But we are excited. You guys should be excited. And we know that family, family and friends are great supporters of this volleyball team and you are part of the reason they were so successful this year. So thank you so much and shout out to all of you supporters for the women's basketball, women's volleyball team and.
[00:19:00] Speaker A: Basketball team, but specifically the women's volleyball team.
[00:19:02] Speaker B: The women's volleyball team and just all the love that you have given, all the, the, the hours and travel on the road that you have given to you, to your girls to support them.
And this is, this is, this is what you got. And it's awesome. It's an awesome time.
[00:19:17] Speaker A: So awesome.
[00:19:18] Speaker B: Awesome. It's a great time. Great day to be an Eagle.
[00:19:19] Speaker A: It is a great.
[00:19:20] Speaker B: We're not wrapping up yet, so thank you so much for all you for supporting the Emas women's volleyball team. I can't, we can't really thank you enough. Like, it's so cool.
[00:19:29] Speaker A: Like, you guys, what a season.
[00:19:30] Speaker B: We talked about last podcast. Like, you see the success you have when you support someone and you, you parents, you, family and friends, you support the women's volleyball team and you saw the success they had this season, last season.
It's just really cool. It's really cool to see the fruit from your guys's labor, from our women's team labor.
So just shout out to everybody all around, great season. We're back.
We're back next year.
[00:19:53] Speaker A: Run it back.
[00:19:54] Speaker B: Let's run it back. Run it back. Well, let's move on to basketball. It is basketball season, ladies and gentlemen. We talked a little bit about it last podcast, but as volleyball is over and cross country is officially.
Soccer's been over.
[00:20:09] Speaker A: Sad.
[00:20:09] Speaker B: But basketball is in full swing. I know basketball is our only sport right now.
[00:20:15] Speaker A: It is.
[00:20:16] Speaker B: So besides, tell us what's going on.
[00:20:18] Speaker A: Yeah. So taking a look at the season so far.
[00:20:22] Speaker A: Looking back at for start with the women's side of things. So right before Thanksgiving break, the Tuesday before Thanksgiving break, our women's team had a matchup against Mount Mary team that they lost to on a interesting call last year at the buzzer. They made two free throws to win the game. But Mount Mary Division 3 team. Shane. Yeah, that's transitioned to NAI this year historically.
[00:20:46] Speaker B: Good, good program.
[00:20:48] Speaker A: Interesting to see how that's working out for them. But good game for the ladies.
[00:20:53] Speaker A: Couldn't quite pull it out at the end.
Mount Mary ended up winning 7,168.
[00:20:59] Speaker B: Very close game.
[00:21:00] Speaker A: We had four opportunities to tie or take the lead in the last minute four.
[00:21:06] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:21:06] Speaker A: And just couldn't quite get a shot to fall, which was super disappointing. But you know, you'll have games like that where everything's falling or nothing is falling. And so it's just encouragement that, you know, could have won the game, probably should have won the game, had opportunities, just didn't quite get them to fall. But knowing like, hey, we're right there with a good D3 program now. NAI program. So it's always interesting when teams make that jump. Like we saw St. Thomas a couple years ago go from Division 3 to Division 1. So it's always interesting hearing, you know, the philosophy of schools that do that. But yeah, looking at some stuff, you know, Aubrey led the way with 8, 19 points. There are four ladies and double figures. Rachel Barrett with another double double. The double double machine. She had 14 points and 12 rebounds. And so yeah, good game.
And I think, you know, next time we play him like it was last year, different result.
And then fast forward to the Saturday before break, we match up against flbc, a team that pretty good last year. They, I think they beat us pretty handily last year. But this year, girls came out the gate, did not look back, ended up winning 83 to 38.
[00:22:18] Speaker B: Dogs.
[00:22:18] Speaker A: They flip flopped the score, which is kind of crazy.
So it's really cool to see them, you know, kind of.
[00:22:23] Speaker B: Was that the same score from last year?
[00:22:25] Speaker A: I don't think it was, no. But I'm saying like we had 83, they had 38. So Rachel, another double double, 20 points, 13 rounds. Rachel played a phenomenal game. She played so well. Shane, she dominated in the post, which we all know that she can do.
[00:22:40] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:22:40] Speaker A: And she did it and it was awesome to see. Amelia had 16 points. You know, they're four in double figures.
One cool stat for that game.
We had 32 makes, 26 assists. Of those 32 makes were assisted.
[00:22:53] Speaker B: So that's what you want to see.
[00:22:54] Speaker A: Yeah. So really cool to see moving that ball around while the ladies working together.
Yeah, they just had a great fan, an all around, just great win. Maria hit another three shout out. Maria Leilani had scored. So that was really cool too. Yeah. So going into break, you know, they're three and two so far this season.
[00:23:13] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:23:14] Speaker A: So what a great way to start the season.
You know, unfortunately like this weekend, only one game which kind of stinks. But excited to see how they perform upcoming games because they have a couple tough games upcoming.
[00:23:26] Speaker B: What are the upcoming games?
[00:23:27] Speaker A: I play Manhattan on Friday at 1 o' clock. And then they travel up to Minneapolis to play Division 3 Northwestern. So that'll be, that'll be a tough game because Northwestern is a really good program.
[00:23:37] Speaker B: That's going to really show.
[00:23:38] Speaker A: Yeah, but it's going to be, you know, you got, if you like I always say on the podcast, if you want to play the best, you got to compete against the best. That's going to really show a lot with them.
[00:23:47] Speaker B: It's going to show their true colors. You're going to show us, us listeners, us supporters, what this, what this women's team can. Can do.
[00:23:55] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:23:55] Speaker B: What noise. What noise is real. What noise is. Is fake. And truly one of the hardest things or one of the things to really just focus on this season, I think for the women's team and for you listeners, is turnovers. Turnovers has been the Achilles heel for our women's basketball team the last couple years.
Um, so we had the talent this year. It's now just like keep it. It's just keeping the ball away.
[00:24:15] Speaker A: Right.
[00:24:16] Speaker B: Or in our possession and not just giving it to the, our opponents. Oh, thank you.
[00:24:22] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:24:22] Speaker B: Oh, yeah.
[00:24:23] Speaker A: And that. And yeah, along with that, like even like the Mount Mount Mary game, like lost by three.
They shot really bad. We saw, I think like 30% from the field, which is not good, winnable game. But we scored the Grace, scored 68 points still, which is crazy. So, like the fact like they shoot 5% better, that's a 10 point win.
[00:24:42] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:24:42] Speaker A: So it's super encouraging. He's good at math.
[00:24:44] Speaker B: So good at math.
[00:24:45] Speaker A: This team.
This team is going to go places and I'm so excited to watch them. Yeah, especially they stay healthy. Lord, please.
So, yeah, excited for that. Switching the men's side. Three games to go over. We played Moody Bible institute. The what, 80 year rival game. They came into town. We ended up winning 79.61.
Always a great day to be an Eagle, but especially when you beat Moody. It's a great day. It's true.
Five guys scored in double figures. Cool to see. Josh led the way with 13 points. His twin did not play for Moody. He's hurt. So we did not get a Stewart matchup.
[00:25:19] Speaker B: We play Moody again this year?
[00:25:20] Speaker A: We do. We play them either in late January, early February, but we're not.
[00:25:24] Speaker B: Are we at home again?
[00:25:25] Speaker A: No, it's away. It's there.
[00:25:26] Speaker B: Okay, cool.
[00:25:27] Speaker A: Yeah, I think it's January 27th or 29th. Cool. Collier had 10 points, five rebounds, seven assists. So he. Was he. Was he padded or got the stat sheet going and Then we traveled up to play Luther Division 3 team.
[00:25:40] Speaker A: Up there in Decorah, Iowa and dude, we end up losing 77 to 53. Probably one of the worst shooting performances I've ever seen. Hey, coach, he's the coach which you know, stinks when you shot 33% from the field and 24% from three, which is not good at all.
But I mean that's a very winnable game. If we shot a remotely normal percentage, like the score would have been way different and the outcome would have been different. Like for as badly as we shot. The guys played well against higher, a higher level team. And so that was encouraging. You know, like we said earlier, sometimes shots fall, sometimes they don't. And that was a game where they didn't. And so, you know, unfortunate but that, but you know, right there, if we shoot a little better, we're right there in that game. And then last Saturday before break, a guy's side played flbc. A very improved FLBC team. Yeah, obviously, you know, last year they had a, a crazy interesting year. Like they were losing by. They had only had like one guy on their team last year that had ever played basketball prior to that. And so there was a lot of like, a lot of like news outlets were like going at them. But you know, good team to compete against, but yeah, greatly improved. We won 85, 61.
Colton and Noah came off the bench and both had 15 points. That was exciting. Savion had nine points and 11 rebounds and Ethan, our freshman, Ethan Cox, point guard, 11 assists. Pretty exciting. So of the 34 makes, 26 were assisted. So you know, we're sitting at three and three right now and then going into break, you know, coming out of break, I should say we play Manhattan on.
[00:27:20] Speaker A: Friday at 3 and then we play Barkley on Saturday at 1. No women's game because Barkley canceled their women's season unfortunately. And so, but yeah, excited for, you know, to see the team come back, get rested, hopefully get a little healthy because we've had a, we've had a bunch of nicks from injuries and so excited to see what happens. Shane.
[00:27:37] Speaker B: It's really cool to see the men come together this year and I feel like you guys gotta compete. Yeah, I feel like you're still like hitting pavement, like you really haven't found your rhythm quite yet. And I think partly because it's a, it's like a two semester sport, right? You're, you're playing at the beginning or at the end of second or the end of first semester and, and then you Got to finish it at the second semester.
And it's always tough playing now.
[00:28:02] Speaker A: Oh, it's always tough to play with Thanksgiving break and then Christmas break.
[00:28:05] Speaker B: It's just a tough time.
[00:28:06] Speaker A: Basically two seasons into one.
[00:28:08] Speaker B: And I know. I know Coach Parker and many coaches prior to have always scheduled heavy now and then more. More lighter. And conference and regional later.
[00:28:19] Speaker A: Only our conference and region was lighter.
[00:28:21] Speaker B: Yeah, sure. And there's really no. No lighter team.
[00:28:23] Speaker A: More out of comfort or out of this year. NCCAA games.
[00:28:26] Speaker B: Men's basketball is an awesome sport where pretty much any team could take it.
[00:28:30] Speaker A: Oh, it's.
[00:28:30] Speaker B: It's not like. It's not like men's soccer, where there's like some dominant teams, or women's volleyball, where you have Manhattan, who won the whole whole thing this year for women's volleyball, first time ever. Destroyed basketball. It can go anyway.
[00:28:43] Speaker A: It can.
[00:28:44] Speaker B: And just because you might have won conference or regionals last year doesn't mean you're going to win it again. Right. Right. So it's. It is a. It is a team sport. Right. This. You can have the best player on the court. And we had a really good player last year.
[00:28:56] Speaker A: We did two really good players last year.
[00:28:58] Speaker B: That's true.
That doesn't mean you'll win the whole thing.
[00:29:01] Speaker A: Right.
[00:29:02] Speaker B: So I'm really excited to see them really hit that payment, come together as their own. Form their own identity as a new team. This isn't last year's team. This year's team.
[00:29:12] Speaker A: And then 20, 25, 20, 26.
[00:29:14] Speaker B: Just run with it, man. Just run with it. So.
[00:29:16] Speaker A: But dribbling, though. So we don't control travel.
[00:29:18] Speaker B: Yeah, Dribble run.
So I feel like. I feel like they'll hit the rhythm more next semester, but we'll see what this.
[00:29:25] Speaker A: 4 games left this semester, so see what. Yeah, we just got to get a little bit better.
[00:29:28] Speaker B: Every game starts early next semester. Yeah. Really very early. Men have to come back, like, two weeks early, so that's wild. And the women.
[00:29:37] Speaker A: So five games before classes start.
[00:29:39] Speaker B: Crazy.
[00:29:40] Speaker A: This is crazy.
[00:29:42] Speaker B: Married to the game. Here we go.
Speaking of the game. Fast broke, fast break.
[00:29:47] Speaker A: Let's go. Fast break time.
[00:29:49] Speaker B: So we'll try to keep it short today because.
But you know what?
[00:29:53] Speaker A: Got a lot to cover. Yeah. Sorry.
[00:29:54] Speaker B: We never.
[00:29:55] Speaker A: Hopefully we never hear.
[00:29:56] Speaker B: Well, now we only got to talk about basketball. Yeah. So we're fine.
[00:30:00] Speaker A: We get some. We might get some fun interviews coming up. So keep an eye on these interviews. Probably not.
[00:30:05] Speaker B: Okay.
[00:30:06] Speaker A: All right. Shane, what's my fast break?
[00:30:07] Speaker B: Fast break. We're just gonna do a top five. Top five, Matt. All right, so we're just gonna do a top five most. Where. What's the date today? I guess upon viewing of dropping this video, it is December 4th.
[00:30:21] Speaker A: Yeah. Thursday, December 4th.
[00:30:23] Speaker B: So December, Christmas season. We're gonna talk about. Oh, the top five Christmas songs. Christmas movie.
[00:30:32] Speaker A: Oh, Christmas movies.
[00:30:34] Speaker B: Christmas.
[00:30:37] Speaker A: Everyone's. That's like, oh, Die Hard, number one.
[00:30:39] Speaker B: So this is actually. We got two different rankings. Okay. This is just like the people's ranking.
[00:30:44] Speaker A: Okay.
[00:30:45] Speaker B: Okay. So first is the people's ranking. Top five people's ranking. What do you got for one?
[00:30:49] Speaker A: Like, this is what a survey said or you googled. What's the top five movies?
[00:30:53] Speaker B: This is the people ranking. Like United States people ranking their number most watched movie, their favorite Christmas movie.
[00:31:02] Speaker A: Well, I. I would say probably White Christmas.
[00:31:05] Speaker B: It's not on there.
[00:31:06] Speaker A: It's not?
No. What?
It's not on there?
[00:31:10] Speaker B: Nope.
[00:31:10] Speaker A: Okay. What about.
[00:31:13] Speaker A: Miracle 34th Street?
[00:31:14] Speaker B: Nope.
[00:31:14] Speaker A: It's not.
[00:31:15] Speaker B: Okay.
[00:31:16] Speaker A: Just.
[00:31:16] Speaker B: Home isn't home. This isn't like. Was it IMBD or whatever? This isn't the. Like, an official ranking of the movie?
[00:31:25] Speaker B: No.
[00:31:26] Speaker A: Really? Dude, how to Save a Life.
[00:31:28] Speaker B: You're blowing it.
[00:31:29] Speaker A: No.
[00:31:30] Speaker B: How to Save a Life.
[00:31:31] Speaker A: Yeah. What's the one?
[00:31:31] Speaker B: It's not a Christmas movie With Jake Taylor.
[00:31:35] Speaker A: No, not Jake Taylor.
[00:31:36] Speaker B: It's how to say.
[00:31:37] Speaker A: No, it's. It's the one. It's the movie with. With. With Clarence. Angel, when he tries to get his wings.
[00:31:42] Speaker B: Angels in the outfield.
[00:31:43] Speaker A: No, it's not. Angels in the outfield.
Oh, Wonderful Life. Yeah, it's a wonderful life. Thanks. Well, that one.
[00:31:48] Speaker B: No, it's not on the list.
[00:31:49] Speaker A: Okay. The Grinch.
[00:31:51] Speaker B: Yeah. Number two.
These are the people.
[00:31:54] Speaker A: Young people, man.
[00:31:55] Speaker B: I know, I know, I know.
[00:31:56] Speaker A: So what is it? Movie like Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer.
[00:31:59] Speaker B: Rudolph is on there.
[00:32:00] Speaker A: Elves on there.
[00:32:01] Speaker B: No. What? I know, that's crazy. I thought Elf would be up there. It's not.
[00:32:07] Speaker A: Well, the camera froze because elf wasn't on the list.
It was like the live stream was like, what?
[00:32:14] Speaker B: Camera could not handle it.
[00:32:16] Speaker A: Could not handle it.
[00:32:19] Speaker B: For. You have Grinch at two.
[00:32:21] Speaker A: Okay.
[00:32:22] Speaker B: Frosty at five, Rudolph at four. Okay, so you're missing one. Three.
[00:32:26] Speaker A: Well, I'm sure one's, like, super obvious probably. Dude.
[00:32:28] Speaker B: Yeah. Like, I don't know why. This is like the Polar Express. No, I think there's.
[00:32:32] Speaker A: What?
[00:32:33] Speaker B: That's not that. I mean, the animation is weird, dude. It's kind of.
[00:32:36] Speaker A: Honestly.
[00:32:37] Speaker B: And then the train boy, like, he's.
[00:32:39] Speaker A: Come on the movie theater. Did shows for dollars.
[00:32:41] Speaker B: You know, kind of train this is.
[00:32:42] Speaker A: Yeah, they took Isaiah and Levi and Levi was like, no, you don't like it. Okay, so one and three. Not Polar Express, Not Elf, not. Oh, man.
[00:32:52] Speaker B: Polar Express is not an upset. Let's get that clear. Let's. That is not an upset. I think it's a must need Christmas movie to watch, but it's not an upset. This one is.
This better be in everybody's like, close to everybody's top five. Or they need to recognize that this is like, what? Like one of the best Christmas movies. It's not like one of my favorites, but I recognize it's one of the best.
[00:33:12] Speaker A: Is it Santa Claus movie?
[00:33:13] Speaker B: No, it's not Santa Claus.
[00:33:14] Speaker A: Okay, give me one hint.
[00:33:16] Speaker B: Tim Allen. No, dude, I can't give you a hint. It's iconic. It's a. It's probably like. It's a super iconic movie.
[00:33:23] Speaker A: Super iconic.
[00:33:24] Speaker B: Everybody at home is saying it. Everybody at home is saying, like, oh.
[00:33:27] Speaker A: Matthew was home schooled. Makes sense.
[00:33:28] Speaker B: This movie. This movie.
Everybody at home, at home, ever. This is probably like their first movie. They would have guessed, like, besides Elf.
[00:33:37] Speaker A: Besides elf. What?
[00:33:39] Speaker B: Dude, I can't believe you're not getting this.
[00:33:43] Speaker B: I paint you a picture. No. I'm not even gonna tell you, bro.
Huh?
[00:33:47] Speaker A: All right, well, I said Santa Claus.
[00:33:48] Speaker B: He already guessed that.
[00:33:49] Speaker A: One said no.
[00:33:53] Speaker A: Who's the actor in it?
[00:33:54] Speaker B: Well, there's another one. Who's this, actually? So one's real life. One's a cartoon.
[00:33:58] Speaker A: Okay, Babes in Toyland. That's old people out there.
[00:34:03] Speaker B: What is that? I don't know. That you.
[00:34:05] Speaker A: Whatever.
[00:34:07] Speaker B: Do you give up?
[00:34:08] Speaker A: Hit me.
[00:34:09] Speaker B: All right, so, okay, I'll give you a hint for three. Number three is a very well known show.
[00:34:14] Speaker A: I thought we talked about movies, Nick.
[00:34:15] Speaker B: Oh, no, no, no, no. Yeah, but this is a movie is. There's a nickname from.
[00:34:25] Speaker B: I don't know how to explain it, but they make a movie for like every holiday.
[00:34:29] Speaker A: So it's some Hallmark movie.
[00:34:30] Speaker B: No. What?
No.
The same characters, cartoon. Like they're selling for like every holiday, but they also have their own little show.
[00:34:40] Speaker A: The Muppets.
[00:34:42] Speaker B: No.
Really? No.
Kind of like in that area, kind of the Muppets, but not in the Muppets. Like better than Muppets.
We're talking about, like iconic theme song. We're talking like a dog.
[00:34:56] Speaker A: A dog.
[00:34:57] Speaker B: A dog and a bird.
[00:35:00] Speaker A: A dog and a bird.
[00:35:02] Speaker B: I'll give you the bird's name is Woodstock.
[00:35:04] Speaker A: It would stock.
Oh, if only I knew that it was Charlie Brown.
[00:35:11] Speaker A: Okay.
[00:35:12] Speaker B: Charlie Brown's number three. Number one, though. I can't believe.
[00:35:14] Speaker A: Though. Those are like 30 minute movies, dude.
[00:35:16] Speaker B: I can't believe you haven't gotten this one.
[00:35:18] Speaker A: Yeah, Isaiah, my kids love Charlie Brown.
[00:35:20] Speaker B: This one is crazy.
[00:35:22] Speaker A: It's number one.
[00:35:23] Speaker B: The Wet Bandits.
[00:35:24] Speaker A: Have I watched it?
[00:35:25] Speaker B: The Wet Bandits? There's your hint.
[00:35:27] Speaker A: I don't even know what that means. Are you kidding me?
[00:35:30] Speaker B: What?
[00:35:31] Speaker A: The Wet Bandits?
[00:35:32] Speaker B: You can get everybody's Instagram bio, but you can't get the Wet Bandits?
[00:35:37] Speaker A: That's crazy. It was the first thing you said. It was.
[00:35:40] Speaker B: Well, he said it.
[00:35:41] Speaker A: Yeah. White Christmas.
[00:35:43] Speaker B: No, he did not say it.
[00:35:47] Speaker A: What I say.
[00:35:49] Speaker B: I don't think you said it. I don't think you said it.
[00:35:54] Speaker A: What was it? What is it?
[00:35:56] Speaker B: Just imagine if, like, you and Rachel, you and the family go on vacation.
[00:36:00] Speaker A: Fast break. Ever.
[00:36:01] Speaker B: I know you. You guys go on a vacation.
[00:36:03] Speaker A: Oh, is this a.
Never mind. I don't know.
[00:36:06] Speaker B: You guys go on a vacation, and then you get to your vacation spot and then you're, like, so tired from all the moving around and you wake up like, oh, my gosh, we left Levi at home.
[00:36:18] Speaker A: Oh, home alone. Yeah. Come on, dude, I said that. I did say that at the beginning.
[00:36:22] Speaker B: I don't remember you saying that.
[00:36:23] Speaker A: Yes, I did. I said that. That was the. Yeah, I said that right away.
[00:36:26] Speaker B: Recap.
[00:36:28] Speaker A: Okay, just.
[00:36:28] Speaker B: This isn't.
This isn't like. Was it IMBD or whatever? This isn't you. You said.
[00:36:34] Speaker A: I obviously said yes, I want to.
[00:36:36] Speaker B: I want to. We're gonna play it back. I did not hear you say it, though.
[00:36:41] Speaker B: You said a lot of things.
You could have said it again.
[00:36:44] Speaker A: Yeah, but you said no, so it was out of my brain because you said no.
[00:36:47] Speaker B: Sure.
[00:36:48] Speaker A: Anyway, I've been in here so long, Shane's getting a phone call from his wife.
[00:36:52] Speaker B: That's true.
[00:36:54] Speaker B: I have some other movies, but we won't. We'll.
[00:36:57] Speaker A: I should have answered it.
[00:36:58] Speaker B: We'll skip that. We'll skip those. We went over. We went over, but.
[00:37:03] Speaker A: Sorry.
[00:37:05] Speaker B: What Bandits, though? You should have known that. You should have known that. You should have known that. Either way.
[00:37:11] Speaker B: Thank you guys for listening so much. We appreciate you guys being a part of. Part of this process, making us a part of your day.
[00:37:19] Speaker A: We appreciate not knowing Christmas movies, apparently.
[00:37:21] Speaker B: Hey, speaking of that, we're gonna be on a Facebook live in a couple weeks.
[00:37:26] Speaker A: Yes. Emmaus Global Campus.
Live for Christmas trivia. Better Christmas trivia. So Matthew versus Shane, which, I mean.
[00:37:35] Speaker B: It could be over movies. And it could be.
[00:37:37] Speaker A: Who knows? I guess I'm gonna lose.
[00:37:38] Speaker B: I mean, if it's. I think if it's maybe if it's modern culture. If it's like, modern or not even modern, but pop culture.
[00:37:44] Speaker A: Yeah, I'm excited to see what it is.
[00:37:46] Speaker B: Well, we'll see. So, yeah, be on the lookout for that. Be.
[00:37:50] Speaker A: Be on the Facebook page.
[00:37:51] Speaker B: Yeah, look at. Look at all of. Follow us on all. All of our social media platforms. YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, whatever you use.
Be on the lookout for our global campus as well as our regular campus, our admissions, but more importantly, our athletic post. So keep up with our athletics through our athletic pages.
[00:38:10] Speaker A: Yes.
[00:38:11] Speaker B: But thank you guys so much for listening, making us part of your day. And, Matthew, you know what day it is?
[00:38:16] Speaker A: You know what, Shane? Like every day.
[00:38:18] Speaker B: Tell me.
[00:38:18] Speaker A: Like, every day of the week.
[00:38:19] Speaker B: Tell me.
[00:38:20] Speaker A: 24 7, 365. It's a great day to be Maya Seagull.
[00:38:24] Speaker B: See you next week.
[00:38:25] Speaker A: See you guys.
[00:38:31] Speaker A: Sam.
