[00:00:00] Speaker A: Cross country, the hype spout. Let's go. [00:00:04] Speaker B: The pipe is back, man. [00:00:06] Speaker A: What a fantastic race on Friday. [00:00:10] Speaker B: And welcome back to the official Emmaus athletic podcast in the nest. I'm your co host, Shane Douglas. I'm here with Matthew the. Matthew. Matty Ice Tomlinson. How you doing, my man? [00:00:23] Speaker A: I'm good, Shane. How you doing? [00:00:24] Speaker B: I'm doing well. I am doing well. It's not that hot out anymore. [00:00:28] Speaker A: Oh, this weekend. Speaking of that, 66 degrees during the games this weekend, it's gonna be amazing. [00:00:34] Speaker B: Love it. I love it, but I'm doing really well. You know why? [00:00:38] Speaker A: To hear that? [00:00:38] Speaker B: Why? It's pumpkin spice season, bruh. Matt called me a basic white girl this morning. Shout out to my basic white girls. I did, because I got a pumpkin spice. I spiced chai with oat milk. [00:00:51] Speaker A: Yep. [00:00:52] Speaker B: Does this taste better? So you actually need oat milk? I don't. I know, and maybe I'll get hated out for that, but it's so much, I'm telling you guys. [00:01:00] Speaker A: Oh, man. [00:01:01] Speaker B: Oat milk is creamier. It's better than normal milk. I probably want to, like, drink, I must say. Oat milk straight up. [00:01:08] Speaker A: I do like pumpkin spice because I don't drink it personally, but I like it because that means it's fall weather pumpkin, dude. [00:01:14] Speaker B: Pumpkin spices, amazing. You add that to anything, it's so much better. I add it to your smoothies. Someone do it, please. [00:01:21] Speaker A: Interesting. [00:01:21] Speaker B: Someone do it and let us know. [00:01:22] Speaker A: I mean, that could be a new coffee bean drink. [00:01:24] Speaker B: What would it be called? Like, the pumpkin. Banana strawberry. Smooth. Now, that's. Yeah, I kind of want to try. I feel like it would be better. I'm not gonna lie. [00:01:32] Speaker A: Maybe next time Landon is the barista, we can try it out. [00:01:35] Speaker B: Yeah, or get us the blue lotus back, please. [00:01:39] Speaker A: We need CO2. [00:01:40] Speaker B: Well, no, like, add the punk carbon. Add the punk into the pumpkin. [00:01:45] Speaker A: The pumpkin. [00:01:46] Speaker B: That's our new. That's our new slogans. Add the pumpkin to anything. If we say add the pumpkin, and that means let's make it, like, making it better, you know, I feel like we throw that in there with some sports references throughout the year. [00:01:59] Speaker A: Comments? If you think that's a good idea. [00:02:00] Speaker B: I'm gonna say I don't care if it's a good idea or not. But either way, thank you, guys, for listening and giving us some of your minutes today of listening to this podcast. [00:02:11] Speaker A: And what your love. [00:02:13] Speaker B: Yeah, sure. Okay, Matt, either way, we're sorry for dropping this video a little late. We had some technical difficulties. [00:02:18] Speaker A: Again, studio but it's all good. [00:02:20] Speaker B: It is all good. We had a late game Tuesday night against ripping for soccer yesterday. [00:02:27] Speaker A: Today is Thursday. [00:02:29] Speaker B: Shoot. Wednesday. See? Even more later. See, I'm like, I'm all messed up this week. I don't know what days. What? Yeah, it's been a weird week. [00:02:36] Speaker A: It has been a weird week. [00:02:36] Speaker B: Is a labor day. [00:02:37] Speaker A: That's true. Yeah. [00:02:38] Speaker B: That's why it is. [00:02:39] Speaker A: Really. [00:02:39] Speaker B: So thank you for I. [00:02:42] Speaker A: We're actually recording on a Thursday for the fur once. [00:02:45] Speaker B: I know it's true, but we're not live. Typically we drop it at nine. I don't know what time we will drop it. [00:02:50] Speaker A: Probably that could be fun. Fun idea in the future. Off topic, but doing a live. [00:02:54] Speaker B: We've never. We never been. We've never had to edit a show. [00:02:59] Speaker A: Oh, don't say that. We have jinx us. [00:03:02] Speaker B: What we haven't. Everything has just been just dry. Just straight. So we'll see what the future holds. [00:03:10] Speaker A: We'll see. [00:03:11] Speaker B: Maybe, you know, you'll say something. Too bad. I'm scared for you either way. Guys, thank you so much for listening and showing love to this podcast. We love seeing the fans at the sports games throughout all season, even just the few we've had this year. Home games only soccer. So many of you come up to us and give us love. So thank you so much. [00:03:29] Speaker A: We appreciate that. [00:03:30] Speaker B: So continue to subscribe. Hit that notification bell. And so, you know, when we do drop a video or a postgame interview or more content that we want to do this year with. That said though, sorry for the Late show, but we're here, we're back and we're pumpkin spice. So that was bad. That was bad. Either way, today we're going to talk about sports, obviously, matches ripping Wednesday as well as Spurgeon from last Saturday. And then we have two, two volleyball matches to go over from the weekend and eight amazing cross country meet, y'all. [00:04:13] Speaker A: That was technically in town. [00:04:16] Speaker B: The biggest highlight, the biggest highlight of the weekend, in my opinion. It was. It was just like a spoiler to this episode. Kind of a crappy weekend a little bit for some of our sports teams, but for cross country, that's the encouragement. That's the Christmas. We'll save them for last. [00:04:32] Speaker A: Yes. [00:04:32] Speaker B: But let's get started with, honestly, volleyball. [00:04:36] Speaker A: Yes, volleyball. So volleyball was on the road this weekend up in Minnesota. They had originally three games scheduled. Yes, North Central. At North Central on Friday and then at Crown College on Saturday. And then they had to drive back to North Central to play Kuiper which is a regional game. [00:04:55] Speaker B: And Kuiper is a new team this. [00:04:56] Speaker A: Year is a new team. This is their first year, I think, back with a volleyball team. So they had sports a while ago and then got rid of sports and then realized that getting rid of sports hurts enrollment. So then they added sports back two years ago or three, I think it was two years ago. [00:05:12] Speaker B: You're speaking like a true member of. [00:05:14] Speaker A: The athletic department and missions, too, which is. But, yeah, this is the first year they've had soccer and volleyball back. So, yeah, it was a. It was a very interesting weekend for volleyball. [00:05:26] Speaker B: Really tough. [00:05:27] Speaker A: There were a lot of outside things coming into the weekend with some of the girls, which is unfortunate, but it happens in life. And it was kind of a really weird match against North Central because they got there and then. This isn't to make an excuse, but this is just transparency. And what happened, like, the subbing was different. So they're usually nc double a. Does the NAI transfer or not transfer subbing rule, which is unlimited subs. But since they're d three, they wanted to do the d three rules, which is only 15 subs because apparently with d three, if you don't use d three subbing rules, it can't count as a d three game or something like that. So that threw that throwing off. Cause like, when you practice for three weeks doing one thing and all of a sudden, right before the game starts, you get thrown off for a loop. It can affect a lot. So great first set. [00:06:24] Speaker B: Fantastic. [00:06:24] Speaker A: Fantastic first set. Start the year, which is great. I think it went to extra points. It was, I think, 27 25. And then they had some issues with the scoreboard. And then with, like, the table, the first set took 53 minutes, which is crazy. And so it was a lot of stop, go, stop, go, stop, go. And then there was like a 20 minutes delay between sets. And so it ended up being a dance party and a rock paper scissors tournament on the court for the two teams. But that aside, a dance party. It was. They were going and then second set. [00:06:56] Speaker B: Wait, were they actually dancing? [00:06:57] Speaker A: They were dancing, yes. [00:06:58] Speaker B: Okay, cool. [00:06:58] Speaker A: It was. [00:06:59] Speaker B: I didn't see that on the live stream. I watched the second set and on. Yeah, I missed the first. [00:07:03] Speaker A: Yeah, first set was great. Second set and third set were not so great. A lot of things to work on, which they will and is encouraging. But I mean, just the way to put it. There was just a lot going on that set, that game. And so it showed. But they did have some, like, that first set was really good. A lot of good promise going into Saturday when we played at crown, unfortunately, we end up losing that 30. But the games were pretty. We were super competitive. I think it was. It was like 25, 20 each. Each set girls looked actually really good. I think Caitlin finished with 16 kills in that game. And so. [00:07:41] Speaker B: And I was going up against a national known team, though, for NC double. [00:07:46] Speaker A: Yeah. And so that was good. I mean, obviously. Oh, and two in the weekend was not preferable, but, I mean, it's your first games of the year. And the game on Friday, the north Central game, I mean, there were probably three to 400 fans there. Cause that was their first game of the year. So, like, it was like they were in the spotlight, literally. [00:08:05] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:08:05] Speaker A: And then we were supposed to play Kuiper after the crown game, but north Central forgot about that. And then they didn't schedule a trainer because you're supposed to have a athletic trainer at all your events. And so they basically were like, well, we can host it, but we're not gonna get a trainer. And so then they ended up canceling it as a neutral site host. And so that stank. But the girls got home a little bit earlier. But so not the ideal way to start the weekend. But obviously, like, I mean, when. How often does that happen where, you know, you dominate going into the weekend, so. But, I mean, a lot of good things, like, this weekend's gonna be really, really great. Finally have home games, and so they get to play after another week of practice. And so it'll be good. It'll be good. A lot of promise, just not the way we had hoped that the weekend would have gone. [00:08:57] Speaker B: Honestly, it seemed like there's more outside noise that was affecting our team. It was then on the court noise, which is something you never want. And of course, you can't. You can't. [00:09:08] Speaker A: You can't make that the, like an excuse, but, like, the amount of stuff that had happened prior to that and in that first game was significant. [00:09:18] Speaker B: Some of it. A lot of. It's ridiculous. You can say honestly, and of course, you can't control the stuff off the court when it comes to home life. [00:09:25] Speaker A: Right. [00:09:25] Speaker B: But when it comes to game things, I mean, just a lot of. [00:09:28] Speaker A: When you treat a. Hosting a game like a joke, like, yeah, that's just not professional. [00:09:32] Speaker B: It's not. It was just a lot of. A lot of miscommunication. Not communication. [00:09:36] Speaker A: No. [00:09:36] Speaker B: Communication. Communication. And you know the thing, North Central was apologetical, so they apologized a lot. [00:09:43] Speaker A: Most part, yeah. [00:09:44] Speaker B: But it was really tough. It was you, coach Bailey, and coach Ritker. Both those, both say that it didn't really affect our women's team, but you know how it goes. Yeah. I don't know. I mean, I'm kind of lost for words. I don't really know what to say because I know it, it was a lot of frustrations for the coaches and you never, you don't want this at our level, at any level. Honestly, it's just, it hurts. [00:10:12] Speaker A: Especially losing a regional game, too. Like, that could have helped a lot, too. So. [00:10:17] Speaker B: And the thing is, they were competitive. They were competitive in the first set against North Central and all the sets and against Crown. So, yeah, to have these outside noises, it, as much as you don't want it to be as an excuse, if those sets are that close, there's, you can. I feel like there's room for an excuse or two. [00:10:38] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:10:39] Speaker B: With either. If it's home life or is it? Or if it's all this drama going on when communicating and setting the matches, talking about what rules we're using. So no shade on anybody. We don't want it. We won't, we don't want to say that, say anything poorly or negative about anything. But this is the truth from what was communicated to us and what we saw in the live stream to our women's volleyball team. So that's this. [00:11:09] Speaker A: It happens. [00:11:10] Speaker B: And, and the thing is, we knew we, when it comes to the skill of the team of North Central and crown, we knew we purposely scheduled tough games at the beginning of the season. [00:11:18] Speaker A: Prepare for conference to strengthen, postseason to. [00:11:21] Speaker B: Strengthen our women's team moving forward forward into the year. So our women, I feel like after that weekend, as crappy as it might have been, crummy as it, as it was, motivation. Really, really add more motivation, strengthen them as a team, as a unit, moving forward, and hopefully another tough weekend moving forward, that we'll get to that. They can, they can take what they learn, take what they take this motivation into, not just next weekend but the. [00:11:49] Speaker A: Whole season, the rest of the season going forward. Yeah, exactly. [00:11:51] Speaker B: So, yeah, shout out to the women's team for what you guys went through is really tough. Hopefully, we don't have to, you know, jump through hoops again. It's kind of, kind of trashy, but moving on happens. [00:12:03] Speaker A: Yeah, moving on, moving forward. So. [00:12:05] Speaker B: But our men's team, men's soccer team was able to come home with a dub this last or this, I guess, last Saturday against the Spurgeon Knights. [00:12:15] Speaker A: Spurgeon. [00:12:16] Speaker B: Yeah, Spurgeon. Spurgeon's becoming a little rival of ours. We're going back for soccer. Yeah. Yeah. Way to make that clear. That's funny. They're becoming a rival game for us. For soccer. Yep. And they're honestly becoming a powerhouse, guys. They are. And when it comes to athletics, it pains me to say it, but they're. They're kind of like the new. They're gonna be. I hope not, but maybe they will be the new Maranatha. So I could see that. [00:12:43] Speaker A: So we'll see a fun game coming in. They knew we had come off the three, the five three win against Central. They had played two north region teams and had won 20 00:150 yeah. And so it's kind of like. We'll see. Not really sure what to expect, but. [00:12:59] Speaker B: Yeah, they had both defensive. [00:13:00] Speaker A: Man, what a game our eagles had. [00:13:04] Speaker B: Going into the game. Like you said, they had a big weekend, Spurgeon did last weekend with those massive point difference, but they also had a lot of motivation from having both the defensive and offensive players of the week on their roster. So I will say, though, it was a great game. [00:13:25] Speaker A: Oh, fantastic. [00:13:26] Speaker B: It was very stressful, us kind of being in. It was just a rival game, you know, a future rivalry game, and a lot of. Oh, my. Everyone. My. My emotions were in it. My emotions were on the field, man. I was screaming. I was yelling. A ref yelled at me, so that was tough. But I wasn't yelling at a player. [00:13:45] Speaker A: Was it Paul? [00:13:45] Speaker B: No. [00:13:46] Speaker A: Okay. [00:13:46] Speaker B: I was yelling at Paul. [00:13:47] Speaker A: You're yelling at Paul. [00:13:50] Speaker B: I give myself one game a year to just unleash. Usually, if there's someone with me, I'm the one controlling them. Like Luke Sierwinski. Shout out Luke. I'm always, like, telling Luke, like, hey, man, calm down. Calm down. Yeah, yeah. I didn't have anybody with me. I was alone. I was alone a little bit of the game, but, yeah, but you're up there with the family and the coaches, and it's all right. It was all right. So, uh. Yeah, what a game. Either way. No. Yes. Virgin going in there. I walk it onto the field. [00:14:16] Speaker A: I mean, you could tell they're giants. [00:14:17] Speaker B: Oh, yeah, they're giants. They. They definitely. They. I say this to everyone. They beat us in genetics. My gosh, those guys were all above, like, six two. And they're. They're bigger. Physical, physical, stronger, faster. Skill level, though. We can match them. We were able to match them. But the thing is, when. When you're playing against a physical team like Spurgeon, a bigger team, they're gonna win a lot of the 50 50 balls, not just in the air, but on the ground. So it was very tough for our guys. Team, men's team, to win possession of the ball the entire game. [00:14:48] Speaker A: I mean, the film showed it. I mean, after the game, what it was. Spurgeon possessed the ball, like, 91% of the game. [00:14:56] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:14:57] Speaker A: And. Which is crazy. [00:14:58] Speaker B: Cause that's not nuts. That sucks. [00:15:01] Speaker A: 91%. We had possession for 9% of the game and we won 20. [00:15:05] Speaker B: Yep. [00:15:05] Speaker A: Which is nuts. Like, you know, they're coming to the game averaging 17 and a half goals a game. They only. We allowed them to have. Only allowed them to have 17 shots on goal. Tucker had 15 saves, which is amazing. And then we were. We were 50%. We were two for four on our shots. [00:15:22] Speaker B: It's true. We scored off of a set piece from a Carlos free kick to our freshman Noah Keller, who is the first career goal. [00:15:30] Speaker A: Shout out. [00:15:31] Speaker B: Shout out to Noah. So he speared it with his head. Top of his head. Bad spot. [00:15:35] Speaker A: Late in the second half, too. First half. [00:15:39] Speaker B: Crazy. So a flat set piece. And then later on, on a counter attack. [00:15:43] Speaker A: Yeah. Three minutes left in the game. [00:15:44] Speaker B: Tucker punted the ball downfield and right. [00:15:47] Speaker A: Just talk about that punt, though. Like, he punted from the bottom to, like, almost the opposite corner. [00:15:52] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:15:52] Speaker A: Like, that was nuts. [00:15:54] Speaker B: So he punted down. He punted the ball downfield, which was primarily, I guess our assumption is that was our offensive strategy, was to have counter talks. The coaches beforehand, for a majority of the week, were working on defense, how to shift correctly, when to attack, when not to. So there was a lot of patience being taught to our men's soccer team this week in practice and purposely going into, I guess, the stretch of tough games against Spurgeon, ripping this weekend's game against Northwestern. So really trying to focus and hone, hone in on defense. So counter attacks is where we're going to, you know, majority get our offensive possession on, on, on towards their 18. [00:16:40] Speaker A: That happened. [00:16:40] Speaker B: So, as we're saying, Tucker punted the ball downfield. Riley Steele attacked. It forced a bad pass where Bennett Kreiner was able to intercept the ball. And chip, chip the goalie a little bit outside the. Far outside the 18. And I think was that goal. And that was with less than two minutes. [00:16:57] Speaker A: 7Th career goal. I think that's what it was. [00:16:59] Speaker B: It was the silencer. It was silencer. So it was a crazy game. [00:17:03] Speaker A: And like we talked about last week, how our back three played really good against Central. I mean, they had a phenomenal game. [00:17:11] Speaker B: They did. Evan. Or back for back four. So, Evan. Evan Shields easily had me. [00:17:17] Speaker A: He saved the. [00:17:18] Speaker B: One of the greatest games of his career against Spurgeon. He was amazing against ripping the other day. He was amazing against CCCB. [00:17:27] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:17:27] Speaker B: So, Evan, shout out, Evan. You know, I mean, a shout out to Tucker. Yeah. Tucker. Tucker cappuccin. Who. [00:17:34] Speaker A: What? [00:17:35] Speaker B: The defensive student athlete of the week. So, you know, we do have like a tucker what's there, which is the. [00:17:43] Speaker A: Second time that he's won that award. [00:17:44] Speaker B: Yep. So awesome. But I mean, what he. His awards. His. What he wins really reflects the back line. [00:17:50] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:17:51] Speaker B: Right. And a lot of. And the leader of that backer line right now, which is a new group that has not worked together, is Evan Shields at center back. And he's. He's going to be a great mentor to Seth Carl, freshman center back. And, you know, don't forget about Caleb Hunter and JD Miller on the side, who are really carrying their weight and the team's weight being. [00:18:10] Speaker A: I mean, JD has some goal saving slide tackles. [00:18:13] Speaker B: Yep. Yesterday. And Caleb Hunters is so fantastic. So we can talk about these guys all day. They had. The backline is incredible this year. We love their work. And then. [00:18:23] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:18:23] Speaker B: So hopefully working on this defense against these tough teams will really prepare our defense moving into conference play in the next couple weeks. But yesterday's game against ripping 20 loss. [00:18:33] Speaker A: Against ripping d three out of Wisconsin. I mean, super similar to the Spurgeon game. I mean, they possess the ball basically the entire game. [00:18:42] Speaker B: They weren't as physically dominant. [00:18:44] Speaker A: They weren't. [00:18:44] Speaker B: But they had a lot of skill. [00:18:46] Speaker A: A lot of skill. [00:18:47] Speaker B: Lots of players. [00:18:48] Speaker A: Yeah, it was zero again going into halftime. And then it was like a hockey game. I was so. I was really impressed because, you know, looking at the shot difference, they had 38 shots compared to just our three. And we lost 20, which is still crazy. And, yeah, there are two goals were set pieces. Like they had no in play goals. They scored off a throw in header and they scored off of a corner header. [00:19:12] Speaker B: Yep. [00:19:12] Speaker A: So both their goals came off headers. And so, like, I just like. I mean, for the ball and most of the ball bean on our side the entire game, like 20, which we had lost to them two years ago. 50. [00:19:24] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:19:25] Speaker A: Obviously two very different teams. But, I mean, I was. I was encouraged by that 100%. I mean, the thing about Tucker had a fantastic game. He had another 15 save game. [00:19:35] Speaker B: I mean, I look at that. I look at the game and both their goals came off of miscommunications on our defense. When you play a whole 90 minutes of just really focusing on defense. It's gonna. It's gonna have a toll on. [00:19:46] Speaker A: I mean, one mistake. Yeah. So one mistake. [00:19:49] Speaker B: And that's the scary part. That's scary about going into these games with that. With that type of strategy of, you know, you could say unintentionally parking the bus. Right, right. But when you're playing against a team that is, you know, you look at. [00:20:00] Speaker A: As superior and you look at their bench and you see all. You saw, what, 48 guys on their bench? Just crazy. [00:20:05] Speaker B: Yeah. Cause a lot of those guys on those teams on Rippin's lineup chose their. Chose to go there for soccer. [00:20:11] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:20:11] Speaker B: You know that. You can't say that. Always the same with all the guys on our. On our. On our field, on our bench, on our lineup. A lot of them come here for the Bible to grow their relationship with Jesus. [00:20:21] Speaker A: Oh, hey, I want to be on. [00:20:21] Speaker B: A team and then happen to be really good at soccer, which is great. So, of course, we have, you know, guys who are here for soccer, but that's not the only reason. [00:20:29] Speaker A: Soccer and the Bible. [00:20:30] Speaker B: Exactly. [00:20:30] Speaker A: Versus Bible and soccer. [00:20:32] Speaker B: So with those miscommunications as well as just. [00:20:36] Speaker A: And those are fixable things. [00:20:37] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:20:37] Speaker A: Which is encouraging. Like, if it was just, like, wide open defensive breakdowns, like. Yeah, that's an issue. But, like, you know, off two set pieces, like, that's fixable. [00:20:45] Speaker B: Yeah. And is what I was saying earlier, they were like a hockey team when it came to the lineup. [00:20:49] Speaker A: They subbed in ten guys, like, switch 2020 minutes into the game, three different. [00:20:53] Speaker B: Lineups that they were just sub it in. So fresh legs, fresh minds, fresh voices. Honestly, you know, there's a big difference of some of the words that were being said, but, yeah, there were a lot. It was so funny watching on the sidelines. [00:21:07] Speaker A: So we do this to be witnesses to the. To those guys out. [00:21:11] Speaker B: So many fans are like, are they. Are they christian? So. No. [00:21:13] Speaker A: No, they're not. [00:21:15] Speaker B: But they're so sweet, sweet guys. Their coach is awesome. Very nice guy. And players are nice. And that's spurgeon, also. Very nice. [00:21:22] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:21:22] Speaker B: The player. No issue. No issue with ripping, either. It's been a lot of cool heads, which is. Which I love. [00:21:29] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:21:30] Speaker B: You know, and that really shows. Yeah. Going forward, shows a lot of growth in the. Our teams. [00:21:35] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:21:35] Speaker B: The athletic departments all around, especially within the NAAC double A. And I look forward to seeing what most of our conference play. [00:21:43] Speaker A: Exactly. [00:21:43] Speaker B: For the rest of the season. So I do think we can compete against ripping. [00:21:46] Speaker A: I do, too. [00:21:47] Speaker B: I mean, yeah, so, yeah, it's a frustrating game. [00:21:50] Speaker A: Will be interesting to see this weekend with Northwestern, if it's gonna be a similar. Like, if the. If it's gonna be similar to the last two games or if it's gonna be different, because, I mean, yeah, 20 against Ripon. [00:22:02] Speaker B: And I think I honestly, we're just preparing our men's team for. For a conference. [00:22:07] Speaker A: Right. [00:22:07] Speaker B: It's the same. The volleyball and. Volleyball and conference. [00:22:11] Speaker A: From these two team. These three teams. This is two teams that we're playing between Ripon and Northwestern. So, like, obviously, it's going to be way different when we get back, and when we get into conference play, we'll have more conference play. Yeah. It'll be more offensive focused, but, like, knowing, like, okay, the defense can take this hounding for. Yeah. I mean, yeah. Because really, if you think about it, like, all three goals at Tucker's allowed this year have been set pieces. PK and then corner and then throw in. [00:22:38] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:22:38] Speaker A: Which is awesome. And so, I mean, really, like, there's a lot of good things to take away. It is like, I mean, coming from maybe watching game, you're frustrated, like, why can't we get the ball on our side of the field? But, like, knowing, just thinking that, like, you know, a lot of great things to come from the game. [00:22:54] Speaker B: So seeing that we're. We are down Christian Andersen, which was our top goal scorer last year, and that we're still able to score off counterattacks, and then we have Jake Matt to kind of fill in those shoes. And the program that he came from as a transfer student was how prepared him for has prepared him, like, well beyond what we can here at Emmaus. So have him here as an individual and what he has brought to the team, as well as that we can still score on counter attacks and that we're the focusing and how we on defense, and we have a great defense and a back line. And Tucker. Yeah, Tucker capuses as a goal is really good. It's a lot of hope and encouragement in the future. Of course, you don't want to go into games and play, to not lose. [00:23:36] Speaker A: Or play timid or scared. Yeah, certainly. But, like. [00:23:39] Speaker B: But as much as that might be the perception, I don't think that's necessarily. I think. No, we are preparing our boys repair, preparing our men for conference, for the four tournaments. [00:23:51] Speaker A: I mean, even, like, if, you know, if we, like, we have a good shot at regionals this year. [00:23:56] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:23:57] Speaker A: And when. If we make it to the nationals, like, the national teams that compete at nationals every year, they're very good. And this is preparing us for potentially making a run two nationals to compete with the Pensacola. The. Bob Jones is the cause. [00:24:10] Speaker B: If we play a game like we did against Spurgeon in a national championship and we win, they'd be crazy. No one's gonna look back and say. [00:24:19] Speaker A: And be like, wow, they possess the ball for five. No, they scored three times. All you think about the end, you know? [00:24:26] Speaker B: And of course, you want. You want a good soccer game, you want a good volleyball game, you know, you don't just want people to, you know, always run the screens or the wheel routes when it comes to, like, football or playing Madden, but slant 70 yard touchdown. So, yeah, I think we're gonna see a lot of. So there are different. A lot of good takeaways, different strategies go moving forward. Teams in conference and in regional. So soccer aside, volleyball aside, cross crunch country. [00:24:59] Speaker A: Let's go. What a fantastic race on Friday. [00:25:05] Speaker B: It has. [00:25:06] Speaker A: So it was kind of, like, good and, like, good, but doesn't matter because the guys. [00:25:11] Speaker B: Oh, great is. Was great. [00:25:13] Speaker A: I ran a five k. Can't qualify for nationals on a five k because the. The men run an eight k. Yeah. So this was more like coach already said going into it. It was more like a speed trial. Like, aim for this and see how you do. And so five guys ran, so Williams still getting five guys, five girls all ran. And so, yeah, so, I mean, watching, you know, Benjamin, Matthew, Sam, Christian and Caleb all run was great. I mean, they did great. So. But it kind of stinks because, I mean, actually, it ends up working out because everyone should be healthy because, like, I think Caleb was a little hurt. And then I think Matthew was a little sick as well. And so knowing, like, okay, this last week didn't count. Next week is a six k. Doesn't count. So in two weeks or three weeks, I think it's the 20th, that's when they are going to run in their first meet that the guys can compete and qualify for nationals. And so I'm excited for that because it's kind of like the build up. So that was great. That was great to see the guys do well. I mean, the three freshmen finished one, two, three ahead of the returners, and so there's a lot of good promise there. But, man, the girls. Mmm, they play. They ran so well. I mean, if you look at it, you need to run a two hour and five minute combined team time to qualify for nationals. And this, Shane, is the earliest that our girls have qualified for nationals. [00:26:41] Speaker B: I love it. [00:26:42] Speaker A: In the history of the program as a team. Yeah. So it was really cool because Anna Knigli was back. She's back. She is back. [00:26:52] Speaker B: She's pumpkin spice back. [00:26:53] Speaker A: She is pumpkin spice back. She ran her fastest time. She ran her fastest time this race. Then all last year combined. She's back. And so, yeah, so Anna and then newcomer Auggie Christensen and then Kate, who also ran sick, all three individually qualified for the national race, which is awesome. And then I don't think this gets talked about enough, especially for cross country runners, but the four and five are almost just as important. Are just as important, if not more important than the top three in times, because Riley, Rath and Tuttle were four and five, but they ran fast enough to qualify. If they had run a little bit slower, wouldn't qualify this week. But they booked it, they gave it their all, and they qualified. And so it's cool seeing Augie PR and Riley PR and Bria PR, so it was really encouraging. And also, this was the fastest time, team time they've had since 2022. That was the hype year, and that was the hyper. When they finished, I think, third or fourth, which is crazy. [00:28:01] Speaker B: That's not being there. [00:28:02] Speaker A: Exciting. [00:28:03] Speaker B: I like. I do like the cross country course that we have here in Dubuque. I know coach Artis are trying to maybe have regionals be in a different area, but it's really easy to access all these different points at the. At the track field or. Yeah, I guess so. Either way, super fun meet. Yeah, really fun. Love the energy at a cross country meets. Yeah, you got to run around just, like, cheer on them. But it's so fun. And we had so many students out. [00:28:26] Speaker A: There, which was great. [00:28:27] Speaker B: So many students were out there cheering on our team, and it was amazing to see. See our women's cross country team just smiling on the track, running the course and then finishing, seeing, you know, Anna finish first, Augie not far behind, and then kate. Kate booked it on that last lap to make up a lot of time. [00:28:44] Speaker A: She passed it, a couple of people. Yeah. [00:28:45] Speaker B: And it both. All three individually qualifying and then seeing Riley and Bria finish to get the whole team qualified was just awesome. They didn't even know what was going on. Everyone's like, what? [00:28:55] Speaker A: We qualified? What's that mean? [00:28:56] Speaker B: But I mean, as much as, like, you're hyped about the women's. The women's team. I don't want to take away from the men's team. No, the men's team was, I think, a minute and a half separation from our last to the first. [00:29:07] Speaker A: They're all in. Agrees. [00:29:09] Speaker B: Yeah, a minute and a half is not much. I mean, it's a lot, but it's still a lot of room to grow, a lot of room to get better for the. In the rest of the season with our men's team. So to see. To see that there's a lot of different lead changes within our guys when it came to, honestly, all three freshmen, when it comes to Matthew, Sam and Ben all shifting, who's taking the lead? You know, not as a whole, not in a whole competition. [00:29:36] Speaker A: Right. [00:29:36] Speaker B: But just within our team, you may. [00:29:38] Speaker A: See, I think it's so cool to see, like, you know, in the past, you know, it might have been like, you know, our. Our top two or three runners for each team or I guess for the guys, two runners. Cause we only ever had two runners. We have a team, which is awesome, but, like, the top two usually are in the mix with the pack and then, like, the back. Yeah, like four or five runners. It's like, last, last, last. But that didn't happen for either team. I mean, I think. I mean, we. There were running against d three s and there was one nei there. Our runners were in the, like, in the midst of it. Like, it wasn't like, you know, we had Anna. And then, like, at the bottom of the the race chart, you see Emmaus, Emmaus, Emmaus, Maya. So that wasn't the case for either team this year, which was really encouraging, really exciting. [00:30:28] Speaker B: It's awesome moving forward to see. See what our guys are going to be able to do. And I'm looking forward to even the women as well. But even when they go up and against competition at regionals and that we're gonna host it to see how we do within our level. [00:30:42] Speaker A: Yeah. Which is. [00:30:43] Speaker B: Which is gonna be very exciting. I hope I'm around. Hope I'm not traveling for enrollment because I want to see our team race against the other teams. [00:30:53] Speaker A: Yes. [00:30:54] Speaker B: Because our guys are fast. [00:30:56] Speaker A: They are gonna be. They are dogs, and it's gonna be. We know they're gonna make some noise this year. [00:31:01] Speaker B: We know what we got with. On our women's side with Anna and Kate. And then adding Augie to the mix is just even better to. To see Anna's back, you know, back and better. Like pumping spice. Can't wait. Can't wait for this cross country season. The hype is back. Everybody get on that cross country bandwagon. Matt, let's talk about the upcoming games this week. [00:31:20] Speaker A: Yep. Busy weekend. We have cross country on. [00:31:22] Speaker B: There we go. [00:31:23] Speaker A: Tomorrow, Friday, I think they're down in Pella, Iowa, so keep an eye out that on the graphics. And then soccer is which men's can't qualify yet. [00:31:31] Speaker B: Women's scam. [00:31:31] Speaker A: Women can only add to their score and add to their time, which we great. Soccer is up in Minnesota on Saturday playing at Northwestern. And then they're back home on Tuesday for the Maranatha game. [00:31:43] Speaker B: Big game. [00:31:43] Speaker A: Big. And then volleyball is finally home. They have two matches on Saturday playing in Spurgeon College at 11:00 a.m. and then I think at 03:00 p.m. they play Moody Bible Institute. [00:31:54] Speaker B: Yep. [00:31:54] Speaker A: And then another home game next Tuesday against Mount Maryland. [00:31:57] Speaker B: It's good. It's a fun weekend. [00:31:59] Speaker A: We got volleyball, which one? But yeah, it's the all girls catholic school. [00:32:02] Speaker B: I think it's mountain. [00:32:03] Speaker A: Yeah, I think so. So great weekend upcoming. [00:32:06] Speaker B: We finally get volleyball. Volleyball back on campus. Amazing crowd. Amazing. A lot of hype around a volleyball home game. So I can't wait to see you guys pack that gym, pack the Pollard. Pack Pollard and see what the boys can do this weekend against Northwestern. It's gonna be a tough matchup, but it's gonna be really fun, especially perennial. [00:32:24] Speaker A: One NCCAA d one powerhouse, so. [00:32:27] Speaker B: And they got a good soccer squad this year, Northwestern does. But guess who else? There we go. So do we. So everyone keep updated on our social media for post game interviews, for pre game interviews maybe, and maybe some interviews, other content as well as well as just scores and updates with the teams livestream, etc. [00:32:48] Speaker A: Errant interviews. [00:32:49] Speaker B: I'm looking at you, Kev, also apologize. Speaking of live stream, we are sorry. We've had a lot of Internet issues. [00:32:54] Speaker A: Here with which has not been our fault. Yeah, providers fault. That's why we haven't live streamed the. [00:32:59] Speaker B: Last blame like that, man. No, no. We've had issues with our carrier most recently the last week and a half, two weeks maybe. So we are working on those issues. Things should be fixed today or tomorrow. So hopefully by the next home soccer game and these home volleyball games this weekend, we should be able to provide live streams. So be praying for that, be patient and worst case scenario, facetime us or keeping keep looking at the live or. [00:33:29] Speaker A: Better not just come to the game. So you live stream, come to the game. [00:33:32] Speaker B: That is live stream. Yeah, but in person. Thank you guys for listening. We appreciate your love, your support, your time and including us in your daily routine. So thank you so much for everything and keep an eye out on our social media subscribe, hit that bell. Notification. Keep up with the team. Keep us in your prayers and come to the events coming up. We have, do we have homecoming at the end of this month of September and the beginning of October? And if you have questions about the Talon club, please reach out to Emmaus on an info request or contact anybody you know or works here. [00:34:08] Speaker A: Or hit either of us up. [00:34:09] Speaker B: Yep. There we go. But, Matt, what's today, man? [00:34:12] Speaker A: Today, Shane, is a great day to be an Emmaus eagle. [00:34:16] Speaker B: See you next week.
