[00:00:00] Speaker A: All in all, just say there's been a lot of spiritual growth, a lot of spiritual conviction here on campus this week. And welcome back to Emmaus official athletic podcast in the Nest. I'm your co host, Shane Douglas here with Matthew Tomlinson, the other co host, obviously that is here with us and I love Matt. Nice to have you today. [00:00:25] Speaker B: Appreciate it. [00:00:25] Speaker A: Thanks for joining. Thanks for joining us. [00:00:27] Speaker B: Oh, of course. [00:00:28] Speaker A: It's been a busy week here at Emmaus. We've had a lot going this last weekend. It was Super Bowl, Super Bowl Sunday. [00:00:37] Speaker B: Super boring. [00:00:39] Speaker A: I had a great time. Fantastic time, let me tell you. [00:00:43] Speaker B: Finally, it's great to see the Chiefs lose even though it was the Eagles, but true, it was good to see. [00:00:50] Speaker A: Eagles fans are crazy. Holy crap, man. Did you see the videos? I'm storming the streets crazy. Like right by their capitol building. Like, good thing. I hope they don't destroy anything historical there. Have you ever been to Philadelphia? [00:01:02] Speaker B: I've not been to Philadelphia, so it's. [00:01:04] Speaker A: Actually a really cool city. Really do enjoy it. Lots of history, of course, but they. [00:01:09] Speaker B: Have to grease the light poles. [00:01:11] Speaker A: Yeah, they do. They got to put up a lot of new ones. Cuz they tear them down. [00:01:14] Speaker B: Can't climb up and rip them. [00:01:15] Speaker A: Doesn't stop them. Doesn't stop them. But no, it's actually, it's a good city. Good city, good food. Got to get a Philly cheese steak, you know, cheese with. And then got to go to the Rocky statue. [00:01:26] Speaker B: Fun fact. The most famous Philadelphia sports person is not real. [00:01:33] Speaker A: It's true. That is true. It's really funny that you go to Philadelphia and you, if you make a list of things to do, the Philly cheesesteaks on it. [00:01:42] Speaker B: Yep. [00:01:43] Speaker A: Right. And then you're like, history. All right. We got to visit. There's tons of history. [00:01:47] Speaker B: There's so much history, you know. [00:01:51] Speaker A: So the first thing you, you put on your list of okay to visit. [00:01:56] Speaker B: Run up the Rocky. [00:01:57] Speaker A: Rocky. The Rockies Rocky. The Rocky steps Rocky statue. Like it trumps. It trumps the, you know, the Liberty Bell, you know, Liberty hall, everything. It just trumps it all. The first, the first church in America. Like, okay, let's go to the Rocky statue. [00:02:12] Speaker B: Let's go to the Rocky statue. [00:02:14] Speaker A: Americans only in America. Only in America. [00:02:16] Speaker B: In America. [00:02:17] Speaker A: Well, the Chiefs lost. Kansas City Chiefs took an L to the Philadelphia Eagles. [00:02:22] Speaker B: Did not make history and was an amazing game. [00:02:25] Speaker A: Cooper De Jean, Iowa finest. Let's go. [00:02:29] Speaker B: Small town Iowa. Yes. Let's go represent. His first interception of his NFL career. First touchdown of his NFL Career. [00:02:38] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:02:38] Speaker B: In the Super Bowl. [00:02:39] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:02:40] Speaker B: Crazy. [00:02:40] Speaker A: And he's, he's, he's a rare, a rare position player at cornerback and just anyone really cool. [00:02:49] Speaker B: He is a believer. [00:02:50] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:02:50] Speaker B: A Christian. [00:02:51] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:02:52] Speaker B: It's so cool that. Because, because obviously Cooper's from small town. I was from western Iowa, so Rachel, my wife, she grew up around that area. Her brothers played his brothers in sports and. But she was doing a lot of research and it's just so cool to see there's a lot of Philadelphia Eagles who are Christians who were proclaiming Jesus throughout the whole season, especially like during media day. But it's just really cool to see, you know, again, like we talked about like the, in the national championship with Ohio State and Notre Dame, just how much God and Jesus were proclaimed same in the Super Bowl. Yeah, it's really cool to see that. [00:03:26] Speaker A: It is really cool. And I, we met some people at Impact that are from Cooper De Jean's town and talking about how he would drive people to youth group and the church, which is really cool to, to hear those stories but really happy for him. Pick six, man, we were screaming. We were so. I was, I was like, Cooper better be the mvp. He wasn't, should have been. Jake Elliott, that guy had a monster game. The kicker for the Philadelphia Eagles, Jalen Hurts, played, played well. But it's a quarterback driven league, which is stupid. Josh Allen and Lamar Jackson should not have won mvp. Joe Burrow actually probably should have won it over both of them if they were going technically. [00:04:04] Speaker B: Dak had better stats that year. Lamar won it two years ago. [00:04:06] Speaker A: Yeah. And he didn't even play it. [00:04:08] Speaker B: And Lamar had better sets than Josh Allen. [00:04:10] Speaker A: Lamar shouldn't have won it last year. I don't want to get into this too much, but it's a quarterback driven league. It's a quarterback award for mvp. Saquon Barkley should have won it. The guy, I mean, put him on the Philadelphia Eagles pretty much with the same roster. Add a couple amazing rookies that they drafted that really changed the defense. Fangio, the defensive coordinator, Kellen Moore, I, I believe didn't add much. He's going to blow it with the Saints. [00:04:35] Speaker B: It's actually funny because I don't know if you saw this, but his senior year was I believe also Derek Carr's might have been a sophomore year, but when he was up, when Kell Moore was at Boise State his senior, he beat Derek Carr 57, seven in that game and he, he threw like three touchdowns in the Carceptions and now he's his Coach. [00:04:54] Speaker A: Yeah. Dogged out. Dogged out. So that's. That's fun. I didn't know that. That's pretty co there. I think Saquon was the league mvp. [00:05:01] Speaker B: I agree. [00:05:01] Speaker A: Added him to the Eagles is a clear. [00:05:04] Speaker B: So the Giants fault is that the. [00:05:05] Speaker A: Eagles won the Super Bowl. I mean it probably is. I mean it's a. It's a clear to me it's pretty clearly the Eagles had a successful season because of Saquon Barkley. [00:05:14] Speaker B: Yep. [00:05:14] Speaker A: Right. Jalen Hurts did not play well this year. [00:05:16] Speaker B: At least not compared to like last year. [00:05:18] Speaker A: It's true. [00:05:18] Speaker B: I mean the first time they're in the super bowl. [00:05:20] Speaker A: But it's just stupid that you know, it was Josh Allen or Lamar should have been Saquon. If Joe Burrow made the playoffs, he probably should have gotten the mvp. But just ah, just tough. Really tough. But we're not here to talk about American sports. I But it has been a Busy Weekend. [00:05:36] Speaker B: America Sport 1. An American Sport. [00:05:39] Speaker A: We'll see either way. But Chiefs lost Eagles 1. Let's go. Sorry to the city of Philadelphia for having to put in like millions of dollars to refix their city after they got tons of money down on stuff like that. It's crazy. You the. The team. The city will get money for a Super bowl for winning. Right. And then lower and then they got put all for Philadelphia especially then they got put all that money into just fixing the city. [00:06:04] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:06:04] Speaker A: After the celebration. So either way, we just got this. Earlier this week we had CMS here Christian Mission Christian Ministry seminar. [00:06:15] Speaker B: One of the biggest we've ever had. [00:06:17] Speaker A: Huge. So many people praise the Lord which is. It's a little. It's a little sour just because there's a big snowstorm that came in Wednesday forcing a lot of people to leave a little early. [00:06:27] Speaker B: Yeah, that. That was unfortunate because a lot of traveled from all over. [00:06:30] Speaker A: We had an amazing speaker, Nate Bramson that was here. So good talking. Talking, you know, to the students a lot about surrendering to the Lord, which has been great if you are. If you want to give it a listen, go to our CMS website. There's four of the plenary sessions. Check them out. All incredible. Definitely recommend the third one. [00:06:50] Speaker B: The third one. [00:06:51] Speaker A: Third one was really good. All of them were in fan also. [00:06:53] Speaker B: On our Emmaus University YouTube page as well. [00:06:56] Speaker A: So check those out. Great messages. And then even top it off in chapel the next day. Wednesday. Scott DeGroff alumni. [00:07:04] Speaker B: Scott Degr, whose wife played on our women's basketball team. [00:07:08] Speaker A: This is true. [00:07:08] Speaker B: And has our banner from 1995. [00:07:11] Speaker A: Yeah, there we go. [00:07:12] Speaker B: She was on that team. She was pretty darn good at basketball either way. That's what I've been told. [00:07:16] Speaker A: Yeah. All in all, just say there's been a lot of spiritual growth, a lot of spiritual conviction here on campus this week. Would love to talk more about it, but this, this is athletic podcast and they don't pay us to do that, sadly. We would love to. So talk to Chad Cunningham if you want to see us talk about spiritual things of. Of Emmaus. But no, it. CMS is one of the better events and you know, really, actually all events are really good, but this is one of my favorites. A lot of ministries, a lot of people on campus. [00:07:45] Speaker B: School, a lot of Christian schools, a lot of ministries. [00:07:49] Speaker A: Super fun. [00:07:49] Speaker B: Like you said, grad schools were here. [00:07:51] Speaker A: 50 plus. 50 plus ministries on campus, including one. [00:07:54] Speaker B: All the way from Iceland. [00:07:55] Speaker A: Yeah, this is true. This is true. And, and Philippines. [00:07:59] Speaker B: And the Philippines too. Academy. [00:08:01] Speaker A: Thank you, everyone. If you, if you listen to this for, for coming and if you. If you've never heard about CMS or if you have a ministry that you would want to represent, reach out, Reach out and we'll take you and. But definitely go give those messages a listen. So it's been a busy week, Matt, with the Super Bowl. I had a Super bowl party. What, did you go to the church or. [00:08:19] Speaker B: We had super bowling with our youth group. This is the third we've done it where we take our youth group and they invite a bunch of friends. And so we rented out the entire bowling alley. [00:08:28] Speaker A: Where. [00:08:29] Speaker B: Not Cherry Lanes, but the other one. [00:08:31] Speaker A: One up the elevator one. [00:08:32] Speaker B: I don't know where it's called, I forget. But yeah, we rented out the whole bowling alley. [00:08:35] Speaker A: I think Fisher. [00:08:37] Speaker B: Fisher Lanes. There you go. [00:08:38] Speaker A: I'm so good. [00:08:39] Speaker B: And so it was fun. We had. I don't remember how we had like maybe 40 or so. And so we did that and then Rachel and I just stayed home and. [00:08:47] Speaker A: Oh, I thought watched. You went bowling, though. [00:08:50] Speaker B: We did go bowling. [00:08:50] Speaker A: So you said you like, invited him and then didn't go? [00:08:52] Speaker B: No, no, no. [00:08:54] Speaker A: Gotcha, gotcha. But okay, that's cool. Yeah, I had some people over cooked. A lot of food is fun. So I'm actually pretty tired. I don't know, do I look tired? If I look tired on screen or if I sound. I definitely don't sound like it. [00:09:06] Speaker B: Lost in the mail. [00:09:07] Speaker A: I never sound tired. What? [00:09:08] Speaker B: Mind if I get lost in the mail? [00:09:09] Speaker A: You were bowling? Yeah. You could come. Well, I hate it when people Do I hate it when people do that? Was like. I mean to be fair, I probably do the same thing. [00:09:20] Speaker B: Oh yeah. [00:09:20] Speaker A: But it's just so sad. I hurt like. I love you. Of course you're, you can come over if you want. Busy week? [00:09:27] Speaker B: Super busy. [00:09:28] Speaker A: But now we're, we're kind of coasting a little bit. No big events going on until I saw at the end of the school year, but we had a slow week when it comes to athletics. Only two games this last weekend for both men's and women's basketball. And then next week or in a couple days. Now looking at regular season, four games to each team playing against Manhattan and Barclay. We'll talk more about that going forward. But like you said, the last regular season games, semester this weekend, blown by. But busy week, slow week when it comes to Ms. Athletics. But that is why you are here. So thank you everybody for giving us a listen, making us a part of your day and LI and then taking, taking our input and what we can do to give you a good insight on the athletic teams here, enlighten you on what happened. So speaking of all that, Matt, let's talk about the. These games this last weekend. Only two. Only two games. [00:10:21] Speaker B: Only two games. So we drove down to Mobury, Missouri on, on Saturday, Friday, excuse me, Friday night, had some van issues but they got that figured out. But yeah, so we drove down there, played on Saturday. So got there late, got there a little. Yeah, we got there at 1:30. Yeah, but you can't use that as a distraction because there's always distractions. [00:10:42] Speaker A: And you can use it though, you can add it to the distractions. [00:10:45] Speaker B: But yes, our women played Central so rematch obviously from earlier in the year when they came and played Central here. It was actually, it was pretty good game. It was a very competitive game. I mean we, I think the most it got was, I think Central had like a 13 point lead at one point but it was pretty close, pretty much the entire game. They end up losing 64, 73. Pretty decent Central team, some good performances. Kate Janssen had a season high in 18 points, had a double double with 11 rebounds. [00:11:17] Speaker A: She does it all. [00:11:17] Speaker B: She does it all. She runs fast, she wins races and she scores the basketball. Rachel Barrett had 16 points and 14 rebounds. So yet another double double for Ms. Barrett or as the announcer there said, Barnett and we were all like huh? And then Aaron McKenna had 12 points and then Nellie Hopkins had a season high of 12 points and eight steals. So we had four ladies in double figures, which is awesome. Really cool. To see two seniors too. Yeah. And then 24 turnovers. So that was part of it. And we gave up 18 offensive rebounds, so it's pretty even, I think. I think we forced 21 turnovers, gave up 24 turnovers. We had 12 offensive rebounds and they had 18 offensive rebounds. So it was really, it was a back and forth game. Didn't shoot the three pointer really well. [00:12:10] Speaker A: You said we had. What was the rebounds you said we had? [00:12:12] Speaker B: I think 12 offensive rebounds. We gave up 18 offensive rebounds. [00:12:17] Speaker A: Like us on offense. [00:12:18] Speaker B: Yeah. On defense they rebound, got. They got 18 extra possessions. I mean shot. I think they got 10 more shots. So. But yeah, three point shooting wasn't there. If it was, I think who would have won the game? But no, ladies played really well but just not, not quite there. So yeah, it was there. It was Central senior night. So they were, they were motivated. They were fired up. There was a lot more fans at the women's game than there was at the guys game. [00:12:43] Speaker A: That's weird. [00:12:44] Speaker B: So I think there were a lot of. There was a lot of families that were there. So that was cool to see. Yeah. [00:12:49] Speaker A: Did Central have a lot of seniors on their women's team? [00:12:51] Speaker B: They had two seniors on their women's team and then three other guys team. [00:12:54] Speaker A: So I mean it's the same, same things we, that we've gone over in the past of, you know, cleaning it up a little bit. I mean it does definitely sound like this one was a better game being kind of even across the board with Central. [00:13:06] Speaker B: It was nice because I think I fact checkers are going to fact check me. But I think the first game it was like the turnover ratio, the turnover difference was significant. But here was fairly even. So like, yeah, obviously like we need to tighten up our ball handling. Our passing. Passing was not the greatest. [00:13:23] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:13:24] Speaker B: But we fixed that. Some good things could happen. So right now, going into the last weekend of regular season, we're sitting at the seven seed. [00:13:31] Speaker A: Yep. And it's locked. And it's. [00:13:33] Speaker B: We are locked into this. [00:13:33] Speaker A: We're locked. So this weekend's matchups do not really. [00:13:36] Speaker B: Matter to conference final standings, but it. [00:13:39] Speaker A: Does matter for confidence going into the. [00:13:42] Speaker B: Tournament, you know, and even for power ratings that come out. Yes, that came out after this podcast was recorded of where we're going to sit in regionals. So. [00:13:52] Speaker A: So we got two of the games this upcoming weekend against Manhattan Barclay, both hosted at Faith, which is only a three hour drive down south of in an Iowa. [00:14:01] Speaker B: We'll play at 1pm on Friday against Manhattan and then 10am on Saturday against Barkley. [00:14:08] Speaker A: That's always a tough thing is going on a road. And like you said of the men's team, we'll get into that of having some complications going on the road. But it's a little nice. It's better to be only three hours than, you know, seven plus, Right. [00:14:20] Speaker B: Like, and it's nice like that, that both games are there because like in the past, like it's, it flip flops every year depending on if, if Calvary hosts or Faith hosts like the beginning of the semester tournament basically. And so like, usually it's like Manhattan will drive to Emmaus and play them and then we'll drive down to Faith either that night or the wee hours of Saturday morning to go play Barkley at Faith. So it's nice that both games are there so we have to worry about who's hosting a tournament for conference. Yeah, Manhattan. [00:14:52] Speaker A: Cool. [00:14:52] Speaker B: So, yeah, cool for both. [00:14:54] Speaker A: Well, so we got our women's game going up with Manhattan and Barclay both at Faith this year. Looking forward to both those matches. I, I really hope that, you know, these, this, these games knowing that they won't really matter too much to, you know, power rankings a little bit, but especially towards conference standings. I really hope Cody & Co. And our women on the team can just play free. [00:15:17] Speaker B: Yep. [00:15:18] Speaker A: Play free. No, I mean they're gonna definitely be able to do that at conference, but play free these last two games. See what you can do. See if you can clean up the turnovers, get those boards. I know, I know Rachel's doing the best she can do. So that's. These are two, two games. Two, two games going into conference that can, that will definitely impact our women's team. Yes. Our confidence going forward as well as the gameplay. So looking forward to those two matchups. [00:15:46] Speaker B: Because Manhattan's also riding a five game winning streak for the women's team where they knocked off the one and the. [00:15:51] Speaker A: Two seed is Manhattan. [00:15:52] Speaker B: Ranked Manhattan women are not ranked. [00:15:55] Speaker A: What do you mean by the 1 and 2 seed in conference? [00:15:57] Speaker B: So they beat Ozark and the beat Calvary, I guess the 1 and 3 seed. [00:16:00] Speaker A: Wow. [00:16:00] Speaker B: In the conference. [00:16:01] Speaker A: Cool. [00:16:01] Speaker B: So, yeah, they're playing really well. So. [00:16:03] Speaker A: And then what about Barclay? [00:16:06] Speaker B: I just looked at it and I forgot. I think they're fifth. [00:16:09] Speaker A: Okay. [00:16:09] Speaker B: In conference standings. It might be sixth actually. [00:16:12] Speaker A: So winnable games. Yeah, winnable games. And like we said our women's team not having a lot of wins this season and, but, but being competitive and in most of the games, they're, they're A team to be nine to be scared of, honestly. [00:16:26] Speaker B: So they've been in every single game. [00:16:28] Speaker A: It's true. So we, we wish the best of luck for our women's team this weekend. Make sure to follow us on social media so that you can see where they're playing. Maybe even this final scores where you. [00:16:38] Speaker B: Can watch the game online or online as well. [00:16:41] Speaker A: Typically, Faith has their own network. So if you look up at Faith athletics and go to their sports, you can find their network YouTube page. It's hard to find them straight from YouTube, but you might be able to do that. But through their athletic website, you should be able to find the online streaming, the live streaming. So give it a listen. If you're in the Faith area, if you're alum, go visit. You're on our Eagles, both men's and women alma mater. Yeah. So we got 1:00 game Friday. [00:17:11] Speaker B: Yep, yep. [00:17:12] Speaker A: So take Friday off. Sorry, got to do it Friday o'clock. One Friday at one o'clock our women team, our women's Eagles team, our Emmaus women's Eagles team are playing the Manhattan Thunder and then what you said Saturday. [00:17:27] Speaker B: Playing Saturday at the Barkley Bear against the Barkley Bears at 10am 10am get your coffee, get your breakfast, come on over. [00:17:34] Speaker A: Go, go stop by. What's the breakfast spot there? I mean, you can go Smokey Row. Is that Smokey Rose? It's a coffee shop. Is there one in Ankee? Probably. [00:17:44] Speaker B: There's like three. [00:17:45] Speaker A: I'm from Des Moines, you know, go get your tasty tacos in the early morning. Go get some bebops. Right? Go, go stop by those areas and then just go get your barbecue. There's a Krispy Kreme in Ankity. [00:17:55] Speaker B: There is a Krispy Kreme. [00:17:56] Speaker A: So they can go there. So stop by Krispy Kreme, watch our women, cheer them on and thank you guys for supporting our women's this year. And we can't wait to talk more about conference next week. Now for our men's team, last weekend we had a game also against Central. Five hour trip down south. But some compl complications when it comes to the van. Diesel a little bit. [00:18:20] Speaker B: But yeah, I just. They had some issues. The, the battery wasn't working. So the, the doors, the door, the automatic door was opening up as we were driving down the highway and so the lights weren't working on interior. [00:18:31] Speaker A: And were you guys freaking out? Was it, Were the guys there? [00:18:34] Speaker B: It was like the door just opened up and it was like, what? But I mean, we Got it, for the most part fixed. It was actually kind of funny because we got back to Dubuque. [00:18:44] Speaker A: How far away were you? [00:18:46] Speaker B: We were by like the airport. [00:18:47] Speaker A: Oh, that's when it was opening. [00:18:49] Speaker B: Yeah, that's when it was not far away. And then we got it fixed. And then when we got to Colombia, because we stayed in Colombia, the door didn't open back up. Like it was sealed shut. So for the rest of the trip we all, it was like a clown car. We all had to pile out the driver's door. [00:19:04] Speaker A: That's crazy. [00:19:05] Speaker B: So it was, we were all laughing about it was pretty funny. But. But yeah, so we got in there. Rematch. We beat them earlier in the year. I think it was. Was it 95, 86 or 93? I think we won by nine or 11. [00:19:18] Speaker A: Senior night as well. [00:19:19] Speaker B: Senior night for them. So they have three seniors on the team. But yeah, it was, it was a back and forth game. They were up four at halftime. We weren't playing incredibly well or really, you know, we didn't have that sense of urgency. Didn't really shoot the ball all that well. I mean we shot under 40% from the field and we were at 26, 27% from three. Tatum hit a big step back three with one with like 20. No, no, it was like 30 seconds left to go up three. It was awesome. And then Central came back and answered and their shooting guard hit a three to tie it with about 20 seconds left. So he had the ball with the shot clock or with no shot clock, called a play, drew some stuff up and then brought the ball down the court to. And then just some miscommunication, had a bad turnover, Central stole it, went down. We fouled Quincy, one of their seniors, who's their fourth All Titan, all time leading scorer, fouled him with seven seconds left. He went 1 for 2 from the line, missed the first, but made the second. So they went up one point. So it was 83, 82 at that point. And then we called timeout, got the or got the ball up to the mid court line with about 3.3 seconds left. So we drew something up and then got a decent look at it, but weren't able to hit it. And so we ended up losing by one on their senior day. So that it stank that we had the game in our grasp. We had the ball. We just had a turnover with like 10 seconds left, so that really stank. But we also gave up 18 offensive rebounds, so that wasn't good at all. So we gotta, we just gotta fix Some things tighten up on some areas and it should be good. Some highlights from the game though, Tatum had 40 points and seven rebounds. So that was third 40th point game of the season. [00:21:14] Speaker A: That's crazy. [00:21:14] Speaker B: Collier had 12 points, nine rebounds. Eli had 11 points, seven rebounds. And then Nash had six points and 10 rebounds. [00:21:22] Speaker A: Low scoring game for Nash. [00:21:23] Speaker B: Yeah, low, low scoring game for him. But he'll bounce back, so. [00:21:28] Speaker A: Yeah, I mean it's funny because when last time we played Central when they came up here, our team was banged up up. And this time, you know, I mean, it was still a little banged up, but definitely healthier than before. [00:21:37] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:21:37] Speaker A: Right. So I, I wonder, I wonder what went down. You guys played really well against them last time they came up here with an injured team right now going down, you know, healthier than the last time you played them and losing by one with that free throw like you said, but have an opportunity to take a win with a buzzer beater but couldn't pull through. Right. So, but I mean you look at the, the three point percentage with 26. [00:22:01] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:22:02] Speaker A: I mean you, you take away those three point shots that they would take maybe if they're contested or if it was bad, bad shot selection, you turn those into, you know, a deep. [00:22:13] Speaker B: We win. [00:22:14] Speaker A: Yeah, you, you, you change, you change those into driving into the paint for a two point or a mid range shot. You know, it's, it's a different game. Different game for sure. [00:22:21] Speaker B: And we talk about like, you know, your losses are never fun, but we, we talk about how we win and we learn. So what do we learn from this game? I think it was an opportune. [00:22:33] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:22:33] Speaker B: Just because we're gearing up for the last two regular season games and then going into postseason play. So we had a good, a good response of practice, practices the last couple days. So looking forward to seeing this weekend how the guys respond because on, on, I guess tomorrow, on Friday we play Manhattan. [00:22:52] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:22:52] Speaker B: And they're the fourth ranked team in the nation. [00:22:55] Speaker A: In the nation. [00:22:55] Speaker B: So they're playing very well and they're. [00:22:57] Speaker A: Going to come at you guys with the, on, on a, a strong perimeter defense. [00:23:01] Speaker B: They are. [00:23:01] Speaker A: Because I, I mean, and not no shade to the guys or anybody right now, but it's a tall, fast team. [00:23:08] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:23:09] Speaker A: But when you look at our wins this year, Matt, and I'm no, no, no way to offend. But when you look at our wins, there's very few games we have won where it's not off. It's not because it's not from the three, right. [00:23:22] Speaker B: No, we live and die about three and I don't. [00:23:24] Speaker A: And. But like, the thing is, I feel like the men's team is not. [00:23:27] Speaker B: Oh, faith, faith. The last faith game we shot, we lost. We should have lost the game because of our three point shooting. [00:23:32] Speaker A: Yes, but we, I didn't say every game. [00:23:34] Speaker B: Right, but I'm saying like that's one area though where we figure out a way to win when we didn't shoot the ball well. [00:23:38] Speaker A: And that's what I'm trying to say is that I would love to see this men's team figure out a way to win besides a faith one. I mean, that's a great example. But more ways to win by not. [00:23:48] Speaker B: I agree. [00:23:48] Speaker A: Not through the three. I know. [00:23:49] Speaker B: You just make the threes and then we'll be fine. [00:23:51] Speaker A: Hey, that is a way to answer. But when you play against a team like Manhattan. [00:23:55] Speaker B: Yes. [00:23:55] Speaker A: And I guess, I mean, mean, actually. [00:23:57] Speaker B: It'S kind of opposite because they're, they're a lot taller team. I mean they have like three, six, eight guys. So it's going to be like the, our perimeter or our interior isn't going to be as there as much as it has been our perimeters. The perimeter shots are going to be there. So we just have to make them and cash in. [00:24:12] Speaker A: For sure. [00:24:13] Speaker B: For sure. What we lost to. So rematch from Manhattan. We lost. We lost to Manhattan I think at the beginning of the semester by I think 12 or 13, I think so. And then we lost a Barkley by four. So big thing for us is we need to, we need to beat Barkley on Saturday because that should solidify our spot as the three seed going into the conference tournament. [00:24:35] Speaker A: Which is huge. Yes, huge. Being a three seed. Fresh, young. [00:24:41] Speaker B: I think we've been that high of a scene since 2018. [00:24:43] Speaker A: New team. Like, it's crazy that you guys got a new team. Most of these guys have not played together. But no, it's, it is encouraging that faith game a couple weeks ago, but given that Central was able to stop the three point game and it is scary going into conference play and regional play knowing that we're living and dying by the three. But I think we both, and you know, Coach Parker and many others can speak to the, the skill that we have on the team that our players are not just, you know, live or die by the three players. Like they can drive, they can, can pass, they can, they can assist each other. So many times there, I get what game it was, but it was just beautiful, just, you know, poetic passing. In a lot of those games for just a. A casual layup. Right. But just passing the ball around, confusing the defense, spreading the defense, opening the floor to get an easy layup by, I think Landon, one of the shorter players. So it's short. Sure. Huh. [00:25:44] Speaker B: He's gonna be mad at you. [00:25:45] Speaker A: He's not. [00:25:45] Speaker B: Shane called me short. [00:25:46] Speaker A: I'm short. Who cares? And he plays. He's a baller, you know, so who cares, man. [00:25:52] Speaker B: So either way, wait to see if we get that one win to set the Emmaus men's basketball season record. [00:25:58] Speaker A: I know it's tough y two more games to try to get that record. Obviously the record, as we know, just within whatever we've been recording the past couple years. So Central game, sad game this last weekend, but then big games coming up. Same location, Ankeny, Iowa at Faith, but playing against. [00:26:19] Speaker B: 3Pm on Friday against Manhattan. [00:26:21] Speaker A: Against Manhattan. [00:26:22] Speaker B: Noon on Saturday against Barclay. [00:26:24] Speaker A: Two big games. Manhattan being a ranked opponent in the nation and Barclay being a team we need to beat to solidify that third seed for our men's team. And being on a third seed is. It's a huge thing. One you. I mean, it's. It's. It's bragging rights for sure, but also really determined the side of the bracket you are on, I believe we don't do reseeding when a tournament is set, so we're gonna be either on the Ozark side or the Manhattan side. [00:26:54] Speaker B: And currently we would be on the Manhattan side. [00:26:56] Speaker A: And we've had better luck against Manhattan this year. Closer games. And this Friday will be a test to that as well. [00:27:03] Speaker B: We can have closer games against Ozark. [00:27:05] Speaker A: Well, we. We only lost to. I guess we did only lose Ozark by a couple this last game. But I mean, we're. I guess we can be on it. [00:27:12] Speaker B: Ye. We played them both. [00:27:14] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:27:14] Speaker B: Friday is really going to see how we respond against Manhattan. But yeah, we played. We played them both close. So that's been good. Encouraging. [00:27:19] Speaker A: Because we haven't played Manhattan since the beginning of the season. [00:27:21] Speaker B: Early in the season, since the beginning of January. [00:27:23] Speaker A: Yeah. So we'll see what we can be. Accomplish this Friday. Yeah. And being a team that has definitely grown through January and through February. Grown a lot. And if we can, we can cut that. Cut that into a win. We would love to. You know, who cares who. Honestly, who cares what side of the bracket we're on? You know, we're gonna have to. [00:27:43] Speaker B: We're gonna. Anyway, regardless. [00:27:45] Speaker A: We want to. You know, we're at. So give us the smoke. Yeah, it would be great to play against Manhattan because they love, they love us. [00:27:51] Speaker B: They love the podcast. [00:27:52] Speaker A: Maybe they don't love us and they're making fun of us. [00:27:54] Speaker B: Who knows? We'll find out in the next couple weeks. [00:27:57] Speaker A: That's true. Well, if you're in the area again, make sure to stop at the men's game. You said 3:00 Friday against Manhattan? [00:28:02] Speaker B: Yep, 3:00 and then noon, noon on Saturday. [00:28:06] Speaker A: So it's a double header, I guess. You can go to the women's game at 10, stay for both, go to women's game at 1, stay for the. [00:28:13] Speaker B: Men, there'll be eight games on. [00:28:15] Speaker A: That's crazy. [00:28:16] Speaker B: Four games on both days. [00:28:17] Speaker A: And then I got one gym could go. [00:28:19] Speaker B: You could go 1, 3, 5, 7 on Friday and then you could go 10, 12, 2 and 4 on Saturday. [00:28:23] Speaker A: No, don't do that. Just do. For the Maces game. [00:28:25] Speaker B: Yes, just do that. [00:28:26] Speaker A: So 1 and 3 on Friday and then 10 and 12 on Saturday. Men following the women's games. So come on by, say hi to Matt. He'll see you. [00:28:37] Speaker B: Hi. [00:28:38] Speaker A: Maybe he'll buy you coffee. You good? He legit? That's like maybe we're not making a joke. Like at first it was just because I I to like I'm offering his money to you, but he would definitely. So there's. We got those games for weekends and Anything else, Anything else going on? [00:28:58] Speaker B: No, just the calm before the storm of the tournament play. So. [00:29:01] Speaker A: So looking forward to tournament next week and we'll talk more about what the seating is like as it go. Is it, as it, it is going to be cemented in what it looks like for our ladies going into the tournament as the lower seed and then for a men being one of the higher seeds. So it's going to be exciting next week. Tournament. It's always fun talking about the tournaments. If it's conference or region. [00:29:24] Speaker B: Tournaments are always so fun because it's going to happen. [00:29:26] Speaker A: And then we'll talk more about the power rankings. When it comes to regions, regionals and the ranking of our men and women, it will look like our women will probably be how many teams are in a region playing for women, they'll be the four seed. Yeah, it looks like they'll be the fourth and then who knows about us? So really, really we'll find out next week. Really. [00:29:46] Speaker B: Stay tuned for next week's episode.
