[00:00:41] Speaker A: Something like that. Seventh.
[00:00:43] Speaker B: There's somebody out there that laughed at that. There is someone that is laughing right now, like giggling. That was like a giggle joke. Either way, Matt, it's good to be back. [00:01:48] Speaker A: Hit counter.
[00:01:48] Speaker B: Hit counter.
[00:01:50] Speaker A: Oh, I'm joking.
[00:01:51] Speaker B: Yeah, funny.
[00:01:52] Speaker A: But we have one exciting piece of news for you guys. If you haven't seen our social medias, our new Emmaus University campus store is now online and ready to go.
Yeah. So there you go.
[00:02:05] Speaker B: You can go to the store right now, get some merch, support the Emmaus Eagles. The university merch right here. You might not get these two shirts, but if you want one of these shirts, if you were like, man, that was a really nice shirt.
[00:02:16] Speaker A: Talk to one of us.
[00:02:16] Speaker B: Super comfortable, super comfortable. Talk to one of us. We'll hook you up.
[00:02:20] Speaker A: Hopefully.
[00:02:21] Speaker B: We'll probably get in trouble first to sending that one out, but you can have that one, you know, this one for sure.
[00:02:25] Speaker A: If we still have any of Those.
[00:02:26] Speaker B: It's true, we are running low.
[00:02:28] Speaker A: Campus Store is.
[00:02:29] Speaker B: Campus Store is open. And speaking of people and just love on the podcast, or not necessarily to the podcast, but you can even say the broader Emmaus Sports Network. Network. Network.
[00:02:42] Speaker A: Emaeus Sports Network.
[00:02:44] Speaker B: There it is. That's a recording, man. That's a promo right there.
[00:02:48] Speaker A: That's a board.
[00:02:50] Speaker B: You shared a story of this last weekend or not this last weekend. A couple days ago we played Faith Baptist. We'll get about the results and everything later in the show, but tell us that story.
[00:03:00] Speaker A: Yeah. So Joe Abdi, our vice president, one of our vice presidents, has been doing announcing for both men's and women's basketball.
[00:03:08] Speaker B: Commentating for the games in the middle of the game.
[00:03:10] Speaker A: I think this is year five or year four of him doing this.
[00:03:13] Speaker B: I don't think that that's too much. I think this is year at most.
[00:03:16] Speaker A: Three, because he would did it off and on the first couple years, but this is consistent doing since then.
[00:03:20] Speaker B: I think he's been consistent the last two years.
[00:03:22] Speaker A: He's done everything two to three years.
[00:03:24] Speaker B: Because I remember getting. Trying to get stuff started with our. Our.
[00:03:27] Speaker A: It's done it as long as he's done it since Coach Parker's been here. This is at least year three, maybe year four doing it.
[00:03:33] Speaker B: I don't think this is year four. But Joe, you can correct it.
[00:03:35] Speaker A: You can fact check us after this.
[00:03:36] Speaker B: I really think this is his second year, to be honest. But if you're really. You said five. So I'm like, okay, maybe 3:12.
[00:03:42] Speaker A: No, he's been doing it since Coach Barker's been here three years. I do know that.
[00:03:45] Speaker B: Three years. Either way. Either way.
[00:03:47] Speaker A: Yes. But he's been our faithful. Actually. Side note, Mr. Abdi has. Since he's been working at Emmaus, he has only ever missed two games.
[00:03:55] Speaker B: Awesome.
[00:03:56] Speaker A: Ever missed two games. There's really only other of watching live home or away, other than the basketball.
[00:04:02] Speaker B: Team themselves or staff that is working the games. And there's only, I think, one other person that has as good attendance, if not better, which is the Cozens, Roy and Tracy Cozen, but Professor Mr. Cozen and his wife, but Wendy and Joe.
[00:04:19] Speaker A: Abdi so supportive of the team.
[00:04:21] Speaker B: Yes.
[00:04:21] Speaker A: And I remember, I remember one away game, one of his sons text. I won't say which one, but he knows which one. Texted me and said, your game must have been really bad because my dad was yelling at the TV the whole game, the whole night.
But yeah. So Mr. Abdi, Joe Abdi has been Our announcer does an amazing job.
[00:04:37] Speaker B: Great job.
[00:04:38] Speaker A: So funny. He runs some commercials that are hilarious. If you guys please listen to the live stream. They are so funny because it's a live stream.
[00:04:45] Speaker B: You want to, like. You don't want to mute. No, you want to listen to it because you don't know what Joe's about to say. And it's not like. It's not crazy. No, it's just fun.
[00:04:53] Speaker A: It's funny because he'll be. He'll. He'll go, like, during timeouts doing takes on the super bowl and how no one wants to watch Super Bowl. He runs commercials like, Good Year. He'll. I just begin with K. Every kiss begins with K. Joe Abdi.
[00:05:05] Speaker B: Yeah, like groceries, like Kroger.
[00:05:06] Speaker A: Yeah. He'll read off some. Some grocery store in Connecticut that. Their daily ad. And it's so fun.
[00:05:11] Speaker B: During Thanksgiving time, he was talking about the sales for turkeys, like, going out there and get a turkey for sale. I don't even know if it was a local grocery store or what it was, but it's so funny.
[00:05:20] Speaker A: It's really fun. Every Landon shoots free throws. He talks about, go talk to our local bubbler sponsor, Landon, and get your free samples. But, yeah, Joe does an amazing job. He's so funny, but he does such a good job with announcing. So we got an email from a grandmother of one of Faith's parents that said, hey, I'm the grandmother of a Faith player. I watch every single game online. And your announcers, by far the best announcer I've heard doing that.
[00:05:43] Speaker B: Emea Sports Network.
[00:05:44] Speaker A: EMA Sports Network.
[00:05:46] Speaker B: Shout out to Joe Abdi.
[00:05:47] Speaker A: Joe Abdi.
[00:05:48] Speaker B: Doing a great job. And that's. That's something we want to do here. Adamus. When it comes to our. Our athletics. Yes, our sports network, this is not really official, but officially official.
[00:05:59] Speaker A: It's Joe Abdul.
[00:06:00] Speaker B: We want to do things right. We want to do things well. And if you guys have been with us from the beginning of this podcast, you can totally.
[00:06:07] Speaker A: It's gotten better.
[00:06:08] Speaker B: It's gotten better. I mean, the very first episode went like 50 minutes, and it was. It was Eric Rasmussen, us two, and then some. Some jokers in the back listening, and we were just like, that was terrible.
[00:06:21] Speaker A: Like, that was. Let's record again.
[00:06:22] Speaker B: And then we record again. And we just talked. We just talked about the sports. We try to give you a good briefing of the players, who they are, where they come from, their background a little bit, and we hope to do that more in personal interviews, but try to give you A good insight on the sport as well as updating you on the results, how the team is this year. Because if you were any Eagle that played on a soccer team, volleyball, basketball, our team is different. Our team changes every, every year. Not just every four years, but it changes every year. And our team could have been amazing back when you came here, but maybe we aren't as good now or maybe we're better. So we thank you guys for listening and we try to bring you great content, really good content and accurate content.
[00:07:07] Speaker A: No matter how easy or difficult that may be.
[00:07:09] Speaker B: And we try to be encouraging. Yes, of course it can be really tough and for some sports and certain times of life, but we try to be as encouraging as possible because we know having like some insider scoops, we've been there too.
[00:07:22] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:07:22] Speaker B: And we know things are going to get better.
[00:07:24] Speaker A: Yes.
[00:07:24] Speaker B: Volleyball a couple years ago was really bad.
[00:07:29] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:07:29] Speaker B: And now they're one of our most, one of our best programs, highly recruited program, and probably has some of the, the highest potential out of all of our sports teams right now.
[00:07:41] Speaker A: So cross country's like, oh, yeah, cross.
[00:07:44] Speaker B: Country, Cross country is doing great. They haven't, they haven't missed a beat, that's for sure. But it's really cool to see where volleyball has came from. From being one of the lower tier teams to now being one of the best teams in conference and honestly the.
[00:07:57] Speaker A: Lowest tier team to one of the top teams in the. Yeah.
[00:08:00] Speaker B: Dealing with a ton of injuries and adding players. And then it's really cool seeing the rise in the fall of the women's basketball team. But like it's on a rise. Is on a rise. So I've seen that with the men's basketball team, with soccer. So our sports go through it. So thank you for. I know it's a long intro.
[00:08:17] Speaker A: Thank you for riding the waves with us.
[00:08:19] Speaker B: And we're here to show you the waves. Yes.
So speaking of the waves, this last weekend, Matt, we had three games to record on to talk about three games for our women's team and for our men's.
[00:08:33] Speaker A: Yes.
[00:08:33] Speaker B: And let's talk about women's first.
[00:08:35] Speaker A: All right, Shane, so we have three games to cover. Like you said, for the women's team. First was last Friday night.
[00:08:42] Speaker B: Yes.
[00:08:43] Speaker A: Little bit different than normal. The men played first, followed by the women's game.
[00:08:51] Speaker B: Wait, first, let's, let's, let's say our record.
[00:08:53] Speaker A: Okay, what's our record? What's our, for the women's record, right now they are 2 and 16.
So we are 2 and 1 in the region.
[00:09:02] Speaker B: Yes.
[00:09:02] Speaker A: 0 and 9 in the conference. So Friday night was against Maranatha. So the women played after the men, which is because the Maranatha men requested to play first because they were traveling to Moody to play the next day. The women didn't play Saturday, so they just went home. So the women played first. And that's. Maranatha was our. Has been our only win of the season leading up to Friday.
[00:09:25] Speaker B: Yes.
[00:09:26] Speaker A: And so going into the game, we were excited. Coach Canar was excited to work on some things. Maranatha was missing their best player because she hurt herself.
[00:09:35] Speaker B: That's tough.
[00:09:36] Speaker A: In the alumni game that they played, which really. That's a good reminder of why we decided to not do alumni versus the current team. Because, yeah, kind of a freaky accident.
[00:09:46] Speaker B: It's fun.
[00:09:47] Speaker A: Yeah, it's fun. It's really cool.
[00:09:48] Speaker B: But.
[00:09:48] Speaker A: But when you have older alumni that, yeah, don't play as much and, yeah, get risk injury. But, yeah. Anyway, going into the game, first quarter, not good. We were down 13 to 7 after the first quarter. I remember talking to Coach Canard off the game. He was like, what the heck was that? But they turned it up right after that. They actually went on. They actually outscored maranath after that, 55 to 18.
They went on a 55 to 18 run and ended up pulling their second victory of the season. 62, 31.
[00:10:23] Speaker B: Awesome.
[00:10:23] Speaker A: So great, great, big win.
[00:10:25] Speaker B: Big win.
[00:10:25] Speaker A: Big win against Maranatha. So that was great.
We had 20 offensive rebounds, which was great. Aaron had 14 points. Rachel had 15 points, 12 rebounds. And Kate Jansen had 13 points and 14 rebounds. And we forced 32 turnovers, which is really awesome. So great, great victory by the women's team.
[00:10:48] Speaker B: And I think that's super. I think that's a very important game at this time of the season.
[00:10:52] Speaker A: Yes.
[00:10:52] Speaker B: We're about to enter tournament, tournament play for conference, for regionals, and with. For our women's team to. To have this. Have this win kind of going into these last two weeks. It's going to be. It's great timing. Give them some more. Not just encouragement, but give them more confidence going to these games. Because we've been saying it for weeks. Even more people are saying it now that there's a team to watch out for. And we can quote Zach later, but if there's a team to watch out.
[00:11:18] Speaker A: For, team that you don't want to play when it comes to postseason, it's us.
[00:11:22] Speaker B: It could be us.
[00:11:22] Speaker A: And yeah, like you said, it was a great win, especially after, like, the difficult losing streak that they had. But they, you know, they took care of business and they should have won that game. And they did win that game. And it was great.
[00:11:32] Speaker B: Yep, great.
[00:11:33] Speaker A: It was. We had a great crowd, too, which is exciting. We had a good crowd. Friday, Winter Fest crowd, Saturday night, Winterfest weekend.
[00:11:40] Speaker B: So we mentioned a little bit, I think that about that last week. It's a tradition here at Emmaus where classes are canceled Friday, students. Then there's a. Like, there's our ESU team, our. Pretty much our party planning committee. They promote community through fun events. They put on a mysterious theme where they decorate half the campus. Pretty much. They have games. They split up the campus in the teams, and then there's a skit. There's fancy meals for the winners and T shirts for everybody. And just a fun weekend of a bunch of events going on. So they like to have, like, an incentive for students to go out to the game to make posters.
[00:12:22] Speaker A: I must say the posters for both games were actually well done. There were some funny posters, but there were some.
[00:12:29] Speaker B: Actually, there's some good ideas.
[00:12:30] Speaker A: There's some good ideas on posters, but no, there are actually some really well done posters. And so shout out to Rocky, who had the full. Yeah, rock life version of Jared cut out.
[00:12:42] Speaker B: And so Rocky had a great idea. He did, but he went with Jared.
[00:12:44] Speaker A: But he won.
[00:12:45] Speaker B: Jared, like a. I guess, like life siiz cutout of Jared Dow.
[00:12:51] Speaker A: And it was awesome. But, yeah, there was a lot of. It was a lot. It was really well attended. And then a lot. Most of the families came Friday night because Saturday was senior night.
[00:12:59] Speaker B: Yes.
[00:12:59] Speaker A: So Saturday, our women's team played Ozark after the game. So in between the games, we honored our seniors. So the woman we honored, Maddie Weast. Her parents were there.
[00:13:08] Speaker B: Shout out.
[00:13:09] Speaker A: Nelly Hopkins. Her parents were unable to get Maddie Weast. Maddie Weast. Nelly Hopkins.
[00:13:15] Speaker B: Nelly Hopkins.
[00:13:16] Speaker A: So coach Hannah walked out with her. Kate Jansen was here.
[00:13:20] Speaker B: Kate Jansen.
[00:13:21] Speaker A: She's a senior. Her parents weren't. Were unable to come. So her cousin Kaylee Gertson on the volleyball team walked out with her.
[00:13:26] Speaker B: That's awesome.
[00:13:27] Speaker A: And then Jenna, her parents were here. And there we go. And so it was awesome to see all the parents, like, all the parents that were there. And then I think, like, Aaron's mom was there. So, like, a lot of the. A lot of the ladies parents were there.
[00:13:39] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:13:40] Speaker A: So, yeah, with the game.
Ended up losing that game. So Ozark is the number three ranked in the nation. They're the number one team in the conference. They have not lost.
[00:13:49] Speaker B: Third in the nation.
[00:13:51] Speaker A: Third in the nation. Because we said last week that this was going to be a tough weekend for them because they're playing the third and the seventh team. So. Yeah. Played the third team was. I mean, they scored 50 points. So they lost 74. 50, which I think is. I think the score is better than it was the first time.
[00:14:07] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:14:08] Speaker A: We played them. I don't remember. I should remember. I don't remember. Ozark pressed basically the entire game as usual. As usual. And so we only had 20 turnovers, which wasn't too bad for being full.
[00:14:20] Speaker B: Court pressed by the number three team.
[00:14:21] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:14:22] Speaker B: In the nation.
[00:14:23] Speaker A: To lose by 24.
[00:14:24] Speaker B: Lose by 24. Given that they probably. They probably played some subs towards the end.
[00:14:27] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:14:27] Speaker B: Like it's, it's, it's not too bad.
[00:14:29] Speaker A: No, not.
[00:14:30] Speaker B: And it's a bright note for our women's team.
[00:14:32] Speaker A: Ozark probably has the player of the year on their team, too.
[00:14:35] Speaker B: And the thing is, is like a team like Ozarks are into tournament play because we'll see them at conference in two weeks and they're going to. They've beaten us twice this year. Right. And it's not just Ozark is like Faith and many others.
[00:14:45] Speaker A: Calvary.
[00:14:46] Speaker B: Calvary. They've beat us twice this year and they're going to think it's a walk in the park. Right. And our women's team can show up.
[00:14:54] Speaker A: They can.
[00:14:55] Speaker B: And we've seen it. And not just against Maranatha. We've seen it in close, close games.
[00:14:59] Speaker A: Like third quarter, the game's tied and you're like, what in the world? Like, they're right there. And so. Yeah.
[00:15:03] Speaker B: So with the right scheme, plan from coach Canard and staff and just the right effort and confidence in, in our women, it'll be a fun game.
[00:15:12] Speaker A: Yeah. So highlight of that game. Aaron McKenna had 14 points, seven rebounds and six assists.
[00:15:18] Speaker B: Sweet.
[00:15:18] Speaker A: So, yeah, so after that, again, crazy weekend. Three games and four days for both teams. That's a lot of mileage, especially with, you know, our girls, our women's team.
[00:15:30] Speaker B: We're not traveling.
[00:15:31] Speaker A: No. But a lot of mileage on them to play, you know, 100 to play 120 minutes in four days.
[00:15:37] Speaker B: Like, especially for a women's team where there's not a lot of depth.
[00:15:40] Speaker A: Basically everyone's playing 40 minutes. And so. Yeah, we played Faith second time around. They're the number seventh ranked team.
[00:15:47] Speaker B: Really good team. Really good team.
[00:15:49] Speaker A: Well coach in the conference.
[00:15:50] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:15:50] Speaker A: Well coached, good deep team. I think they have the number two score of the nation on their team or something like that. But we ended up losing 6,644.
They also pressed for pretty much the whole game. They ran like a zone trap.
[00:16:03] Speaker B: Faith always typically, it was tough.
[00:16:06] Speaker A: I mean, okay, so like we said, 22 points. When you think about it, like, you're like, oh, that's. It's a blowout. It's not really a blowout. 22 points. To think of the fact that we gave our women's team, gave faith 46 extra possessions, we turned the ball over 27 times and gave up 19 offensive rebounds 46 times, and we only lost by 22 points.
[00:16:28] Speaker B: See, this is going to be the. That's going to be the reason we either win or lose a game when it comes to tournament play or even we can say this whole. This whole year, you take those turnovers away, that that's what. We just gave Faith a win.
[00:16:41] Speaker A: And we and our women forced 26 faith turnovers. So faith turned it over 26 times. But to lose again, to lose by only 22 points and to give the other team 46 extra possessions, crazy. That is crazy.
[00:16:55] Speaker B: Like, crazy.
[00:16:56] Speaker A: It should be. It should be triple that score. It should be double that score. And it was only 22 points.
[00:17:01] Speaker B: You take away, like you said coach.
[00:17:02] Speaker A: Kirk said, Emmaus is going to be the team that no one wants to play come conference and region, because like you said, you overlook them, and then all of a sudden it's a five point game, it's a tied game. Like, you don't want to be in.
[00:17:15] Speaker B: That position because there's a clear and obvious reason why, you know, we're. We're losing these games is from turnovers, turnovers. And if you clean that up, you tighten up the ship. Play your own game. Your speed, not theirs.
[00:17:27] Speaker A: Right?
[00:17:27] Speaker B: Right. And I know it's easier to say, it's easier said than done. It truly is. Like, you. You want to score, the time's running down, you're behind. Like, let's get that ball down court. You're getting full press. Right. And maybe there's nobody open. So you force something. Totally understand. Totally get it. Yeah, you're tired. We. There's not a lot of, like a lot of bench depth. Right.
[00:17:47] Speaker A: A lot of people coming utilize those timeouts.
[00:17:50] Speaker B: So I totally understand for our women's team, but you tighten that up so different.
[00:17:54] Speaker A: And especially going in. And they know that postseason, a team that has nothing to lose always plays better than a team that is worried about what Their seating is.
[00:18:04] Speaker B: I mean, our volleyball team has done it when. When they had their rough year. Our women's team has done it when they had their rough year a couple years ago.
[00:18:12] Speaker A: So, I mean, you think about it like three years ago. So it would have been what, Coach Garage. Last year, we went into regionals as the worst, as the seven seed out of eight. We had nothing to lose. That was our. We had two wins that year, and we knocked off Faith, who was the host team, in the two seed in the first round. And so it's like. Yeah, and it was like, same with us when we went to nationals when we were the eighth seed, like, we had nothing to lose and we. We performed better.
[00:18:36] Speaker B: And that was a year that had a lot of talent.
[00:18:38] Speaker A: That was a year that did have a lot of time.
[00:18:39] Speaker B: Just never. No, it just couldn't work out.
[00:18:41] Speaker A: Nope.
[00:18:42] Speaker B: And it was kind of the opposite effect of the Chiefs, you know, like, it was a close game. Nothing went in your favor.
[00:18:48] Speaker A: Yep.
[00:18:48] Speaker B: Screw the Chiefs.
[00:18:49] Speaker A: Yeah. Darn the Chiefs. But going. Yeah. Going back to that game on Monday against faith, lost by 22. Rachel had 17 points, eight rebounds. Aaron had probably her worst game of the year. So Aaron's only score. Aaron has been held to single digits only three times a season. So she scored double digits in what, 15 of their 18 games. So she was like. Aaron was three for 17 and had six points. If that's different, if that. If she's up where her average is, it's a four point game.
[00:19:21] Speaker B: So what we're saying, ladies and gentlemen, is like, there's a lot of upside and there's a lot of highlights with our women's team. And you might look at the record.
[00:19:29] Speaker A: And overlook that, but there's. There's a lot into that that you.
[00:19:32] Speaker B: See, and that's why we're here to talk to you about it. Right. And we. We love the women on our team. We. We. We appreciate them. We want to encourage them. And I. I believe. I believe they are. I believe they've put in so much work this year, specifically, and their sisterhood.
[00:19:50] Speaker A: And they're together, these four seniors, too. Yeah.
[00:19:53] Speaker B: So I'm really excited to see what they're able to do with the remaining, what, three games?
[00:19:58] Speaker A: Yep. Three regular season games and then tournament and then a guaranteed three games after that. So two at conference and then one at regionals.
[00:20:07] Speaker B: There it is. Like you said, a team with nothing to lose is a dangerous team.
[00:20:11] Speaker A: It is a dangerous team currently, as it stands for conference. Subject should change, obviously, because we're three games left, but currently we are. The women are the seven seed. They will play the two seed, which will either be Calvary or Faith. So we'll see what happens. Hey, we'll see what happens.
[00:20:26] Speaker B: That's not too bad. And we'll talk more about seating next week as well as the week after.
[00:20:31] Speaker A: That because the first power ratings comes out next Wednesday.
[00:20:36] Speaker B: For regionals.
[00:20:36] Speaker A: For regionals and for the nation.
[00:20:38] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:20:38] Speaker A: So that'll determine you. It'll go by the second power ratings. But the first power ratings will give us a good idea of where.
[00:20:45] Speaker B: That'd be crazy. If Maranatha's ranked higher in power ratings just because maybe they've lost the better teams.
[00:20:50] Speaker A: I don't think it'll happen. I think it'll be us, the five seed then, or us, the four seed. Then the five.
[00:20:55] Speaker B: That's why I don't like power ratings.
[00:20:56] Speaker A: I know pyrans are a little wacky because I guess. Yeah, it's.
[00:21:01] Speaker B: Well, it won't matter too much because we'll have to. We'll probably play Mar.
[00:21:04] Speaker A: Yeah. Regardless of the power ratings, it's going to be a Mass versus Maranatha women's team, first round of reason, which is going to be play the one seed Kuipers.
[00:21:10] Speaker B: Still going to be a scary game. We beat. We did beat him twice, but it's always hard by 10.
[00:21:14] Speaker A: Beat him by 31. So.
[00:21:15] Speaker B: Always hard to beat a team 3 times.
[00:21:17] Speaker A: It is always. Yeah. Yeah.
[00:21:19] Speaker B: So we'll. We'll give you more updates as this season goes on, as we get closer to the tournament, play for conference and regionals and we know a little bit more. But as it stands, our women are looking to be the seventh seed in conference. And what number in regionals? Six. Four. Four.
[00:21:35] Speaker A: Because there's only. There's Moody doesn't have a team fair. But yeah, looking ahead. So we'll. There's only one upcoming game this week, Shane. It's. We're on the road down to Mowbray, Missouri to play CCCB Central. Central.
[00:21:46] Speaker B: How long is that drive?
[00:21:47] Speaker A: It's just under five hours.
[00:21:49] Speaker B: Yeah, it's not too bad.
[00:21:49] Speaker A: It's not too bad.
[00:21:50] Speaker B: Yeah, you can make it. No, it's not a day trip.
[00:21:52] Speaker A: Yeah. So, yeah, we're gonna. We're gonna go down. I could be Friday night and then. Yeah, play. We play it two and four. So let's play it. Two men play it.
[00:22:00] Speaker B: Yo, the Central actually has a new theme song. I do. I don't think we talked about this. Have we talked about It.
[00:22:06] Speaker A: We have.
[00:22:06] Speaker B: So definitely go to Central's YouTube, give it a listen.
[00:22:11] Speaker A: Hashtag, torches up.
[00:22:12] Speaker B: Torches up. They got a whole YouTube video for.
[00:22:15] Speaker A: Me, a music video to it, too.
[00:22:17] Speaker B: It's fun.
[00:22:17] Speaker A: It's actually kind of fun.
[00:22:18] Speaker B: It's really fun.
[00:22:19] Speaker A: I like it. I like it.
[00:22:20] Speaker B: So I don't know. I don't know if we'll do it. I don't know if we got the talent to have someone, but it's pretty fun.
But it is. Is a fun thing that a team in our conference did, and we love that they did it, so I'm always tempted. I really want to play it for them when they're here, but I feel like. I don't know if we should.
[00:22:37] Speaker A: It's like when a team that we won't talk about plays our in the Nest theme song during games.
[00:22:43] Speaker B: Do they actually.
[00:22:43] Speaker A: Yes.
[00:22:44] Speaker B: I don't.
[00:22:44] Speaker A: Wait, they have. Yeah.
[00:22:46] Speaker B: Oh, they know who they are.
[00:22:47] Speaker A: Yeah, they know who they are, and they do play. They do be playing the.
[00:22:51] Speaker B: Can, I guess?
[00:22:51] Speaker A: Yeah, you can guess.
[00:22:52] Speaker B: Is it Manhattan?
[00:22:54] Speaker A: It is Manhattan.
[00:22:54] Speaker B: I knew it. Of course they would. Come on, guys.
[00:22:57] Speaker A: Yeah, the original. Yeah. If you guys, whoever you are, if you're watching this podcast, who had the sign that said, put down the podcast, you better be there at the game at. At conference, because we're gonna get a picture and put this on the podcast.
[00:23:09] Speaker B: Yeah, that's fun. That'll be fun. All right, well, moving on to our men's team.
[00:23:13] Speaker A: Men's team. Yes.
[00:23:14] Speaker B: Yes. What's the record for the men's.
[00:23:16] Speaker A: The men's. The Emmaus men's basketball record is.
[00:23:19] Speaker B: Yes, I asked that question.
[00:23:20] Speaker A: 13 and 7.
[00:23:22] Speaker B: There we go.
[00:23:22] Speaker A: So right now, as it stands, we are tied for the most wins in recorded history for the American basketball team.
[00:23:32] Speaker B: And that. I think that's. That's fair. Recorded. I want to know if you. If you feel like when you were at a mass and you had a better record, please, please let us know.
[00:23:40] Speaker A: Coach Iverson is looking at all the 17 years he was coaching, though. That was. We talked to. I talked to Juice, who's one of our. Who was the alumni director, AD and women's coach for a long time. He's like, I think that's where we're at. So.
[00:23:54] Speaker B: Yeah, I mean, yeah, we've been a part of a conference.
Different conferences, two different ones. MCCCC and acc.
[00:24:02] Speaker A: NCCAA and the acca. So three. Technically, we were part.
[00:24:06] Speaker B: Yeah, three. Yes. Either way. So as long as we're a part of one of those, I would Say that counts.
[00:24:11] Speaker A: Yes.
[00:24:12] Speaker B: Not. But when we weren't. We don't get into this.
[00:24:14] Speaker A: But yeah, either way, back in the day, Emmaus didn't really do the greatest job recording stats for sports because obviously it's not the intention of our school.
[00:24:23] Speaker B: Until like the 2000 and tens.
[00:24:24] Speaker A: Yeah, really. Well, actually it was more like 99 because Justin did a really good job of recording those. But like 60s, 70s, 80s night, like early 90s.
It was just another fun thing that we did. So. Which isn't wrong. But it's like it's hard when we're talking about.
[00:24:40] Speaker B: You know.
[00:24:40] Speaker A: Yeah, right. It's hard when we're talking about records and all of a sudden you have people that are come out the woodworks are like, no, wait, actually this happened. We're like, no one recorded it. Like, I wish they would have. Then we could have given you your flowers. But as it currently stands, 13 wins is the known. Which is so bad is the known high wins for a season. So Saturday, if we can win on Saturday, this team will have had the most wins in Mayus men's basketball history.
[00:25:07] Speaker B: And that's play. I mean, spoiler alert. Yes. As we're playing central. I guess you kind of alluded with the women's team. But let's talk about this last weekend. Of course, we are at 13 wins and seven. If you did the math from last weekend, you should know how many games we one this weekend.
[00:25:19] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:25:20] Speaker B: But we will tell you as we go on. So we played.
[00:25:25] Speaker A: Yeah.
Currently we are five and four in the conference. And we are four and one in the region. So we played Maranatha on Friday. Rematch from last semester in which we only won by three points even though we were up by eight points with 18 seconds left. And they had good. Some good. They finished the game really well. But yeah, played Maranatha. Maranatha started the game in a zone because they. They've been playing zone this semester so far.
[00:25:52] Speaker B: It didn't work well.
[00:25:54] Speaker A: Didn't work well. I think we hit 10 threes in the first half.
[00:25:57] Speaker B: My gosh.
[00:25:57] Speaker A: And they jumped out of the zone. It was crazy. We had. We had 47 points in the first half and Tatum and Eli had 40 of the 47 points in the first half. Yeah, it was crazy.
[00:26:06] Speaker B: Everyone went off that night. There's a lot of Klay Thompsons and Steph Curry's on court.
[00:26:11] Speaker A: Yeah. We finished with a tied first season high. And threes. Maybe it's 16 threes made.
[00:26:14] Speaker B: That's crazy.
[00:26:15] Speaker A: 22 team assists, which is Fabulous. But yeah, so we won 89 to 75. So good win. Our offense was rolling. Actually played pretty good defense.
Eli had his. Tied his career high from when he was at Southeastern Illinois College had 22 points. Tatum Marguello had 24 points, seven rebounds. Those two combined for 10 threes each, so they both had five, which is pretty cool. And then Nash Harper, one rebound away from a triple double. He had 10 points. Has he ever had 11 assists and nine rebounds?
[00:26:53] Speaker B: Has he had a triple double?
[00:26:54] Speaker A: And he almost got that 10th rebound.
I don't know. I feel like he might have.
[00:26:58] Speaker B: Let's say he hasn't just so he can get mad at us and.
[00:27:02] Speaker A: Yo, coach. No, I'm just kidding. But yeah, so, yeah, it was a. It was a great team performance. It was Played really well.
[00:27:07] Speaker B: Stayed ahead pretty much the entire game.
[00:27:09] Speaker A: Pretty much. Yeah, it was. We were up 14. I think we started the game up 14, came back to within one.
[00:27:14] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:27:14] Speaker A: Went back up 14. They. And then they brought it back within.
[00:27:17] Speaker B: One, and it was a roller coaster.
[00:27:19] Speaker A: We went up like 17, 18, and then we're able to pretty much contain it one by 14.
[00:27:24] Speaker B: That's interesting. We'll talk about Faith as we played them just a couple days ago. Faith and Maranatha, they all. We always have each other's number.
[00:27:31] Speaker A: Yep.
[00:27:31] Speaker B: Like, it doesn't matter how good Maranatha is in the season or Faith or Emmaus.
[00:27:36] Speaker A: It's always.
[00:27:37] Speaker B: It's like. It's always pretty close. Like, it doesn't matter if you look at the piece of paper. And one team could have LeBron and now Luca.
So dumb. So dumb, man.
[00:27:49] Speaker A: Hey, people are gonna sleep on Austin Reeves being the third option.
[00:27:52] Speaker B: He's a Lakers fan, so he's. He's like. He. So in the Lakers, man. Like, it could be. I would. Why the Lakers? Like, come on Clippers, do something. Or. Or any other team, like, come on.
[00:28:04] Speaker A: Got blown out last night.
[00:28:05] Speaker B: My gosh, why the Lakers Not a franchise that has won so much.
[00:28:09] Speaker A: Oh, you poor little Boston Celtics fan.
[00:28:12] Speaker B: When I hate the Lakers, I guess. But I'm not the only one saying it. I think people should say the same thing. If they came to the Celtics.
[00:28:18] Speaker A: Yes, the. I don't know.
[00:28:19] Speaker B: Go to the Pacers.
[00:28:20] Speaker A: Don't know what the Maver.
[00:28:21] Speaker B: Go to the Pacers. Go somewhere else.
[00:28:22] Speaker A: But the Lakers now have Luca and Memphis. It's crazy. Go to OKC or don't trade Luca. Don't trade a three player in the NBA. Like, what the heck? It's crazy for nothing.
[00:28:36] Speaker B: For nothing.
[00:28:37] Speaker A: Scott, please. Like the KD trade.
[00:28:39] Speaker B: The KD trade?
[00:28:40] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:28:41] Speaker B: My gosh.
[00:28:42] Speaker A: Yeah. The Nets turned KD into like. Was it 14 draft picks?
[00:28:46] Speaker B: Yes.
[00:28:46] Speaker A: And the. The Mavericks got one first round picking Anthony one.
[00:28:50] Speaker B: And Anthony Davis, injured big, who's almost.
[00:28:53] Speaker A: Out of his prime, whose nickname. Street clothes.
Crazy.
[00:28:59] Speaker B: The brow.
[00:28:59] Speaker A: It is crazy. Lebrow.
[00:29:01] Speaker B: Either way, I don't know what we're talking about.
[00:29:04] Speaker A: I don't remember what you just.
[00:29:05] Speaker B: I mean, it doesn't matter. Like who. Who's having a better season.
[00:29:08] Speaker A: Yes.
[00:29:09] Speaker B: All those teams have each other's numbers between Maranatha, Faith and Emmaus. And. And of course, like you could say a lot about most of the conference teams because they're in a conference, but it's. It's a little special between us and Marinatha.
[00:29:20] Speaker A: Yep.
[00:29:21] Speaker B: And us against Face. I can't talk about Face and Marinas relationship, but.
[00:29:25] Speaker A: Except whenever Faith beats them, they do casual, which is pretty fun, which is kind of cool. But. Yeah. So with that victory against Maranatha, swept him for the season, which, Shane, that rare victory puts us at Emmaus University. 9, 0 and 1 against Maranatha this season.
[00:29:42] Speaker B: It's so petty, but it's pretty. It's pretty rare.
[00:29:45] Speaker A: Pretty rare. And it's kind of cool to see that Emmaus did not lose to Maranatha once. This.
[00:29:50] Speaker B: We still got tournament play this year.
[00:29:51] Speaker A: Yep, play. But in the regular season at least.
Crazy.
[00:29:56] Speaker B: Rare. Rare. Some would say rare.
[00:29:58] Speaker A: Some would say rare. Some wouldn't say rare. But some would say rare. But yeah. So after that, that was Friday night. And then leading into Saturday was us playing Ozark. Ozark is currently also number one. The men are number one in the conference. They have not lost a game in the conference.
[00:30:14] Speaker B: In the nation.
[00:30:15] Speaker A: They're not ranked in the nation.
[00:30:16] Speaker B: Okay.
[00:30:17] Speaker A: Yes. But they're number one in the conference.
[00:30:18] Speaker B: So they were ranked, though.
[00:30:20] Speaker A: They were ranked. Yeah, they were ranked fifth. They were not ranked the next. The next ranking. Then they ranked fifth and then they weren't ranked the next ranking.
[00:30:28] Speaker B: That's weird.
[00:30:28] Speaker A: Weird. Yeah. But yeah, where are they? Yeah, yeah. I don't know.
[00:30:31] Speaker B: So what am I saying?
[00:30:32] Speaker A: Ranked fifth next week. Next ranking, their top 10 team. Yeah, they should be, but. Yeah. So we celebrated our seniors on the guys team. Landon Jacobus, his family was there with his fiance Lauren, who's on the volleyball team. And then Nash Harper was there. His family, his mom, his sister is both brothers. And then the Harper family was there. And then Hannah was there. So it was fun to. To honor and to Celebrate.
[00:30:55] Speaker B: Why don't we give them any Eagles? Give them an Eagle.
[00:30:57] Speaker A: Yeah. Come on, Will.
[00:30:58] Speaker B: Landon.
[00:30:59] Speaker A: Landon.
Landon.
[00:31:05] Speaker B: We're done.
[00:31:06] Speaker A: Thank you. Wake up. Just kidding. Yeah. So we gotta celebrate those two. Landon a four year player. Nash a three year player. And so just the impact. Yep. Because he didn't play sophomore year. The impact that they have had while they've been here has just been tremendous. Their leadership this year has been amazing. They've just, they've really grown into two amazing young men. And it's been a joy and a pleasure that I've been able to coach both of them for their entire time here. And it's been. It's been really good. Yeah. So Ozark, we ended up losing, Unfortunately. We lost 80 to 68. We actually had a really bad.
[00:31:41] Speaker B: I mean 68 to 80.
[00:31:44] Speaker A: We'll get there. We actually had a really bad shooting night.
[00:31:47] Speaker B: Really bad.
[00:31:48] Speaker A: Our. I mean we shot terribly. Free throws so good on Friday night. We shot really bad on Saturday.
[00:31:57] Speaker B: He can say this. He's the coach.
[00:31:58] Speaker A: Yes. Collier and Tatum had 14 points apiece. Nash had 10.6 rebounds, collared six rebounds. Tatum had eight rebounds, six assists. Yeah, we just did not play good.
[00:32:08] Speaker B: Couldn't get a board.
[00:32:09] Speaker A: Couldn't get a reboot.
[00:32:09] Speaker B: Even though you just said a bunch of rebounds there, but really watching the game. Couldn't get a board.
[00:32:13] Speaker A: We had freeze rows. We had six rebounds in the first half. Free throw, rebound.
[00:32:17] Speaker B: Not good.
[00:32:17] Speaker A: Our defense was a lot. Was. This is probably one of the best defensive games we played. It was just. We gave up like four. We gave it like eight points in a row in. Late in the second half. That kind of sealed it for, for them. But I mean.
Yeah, we played really bad.
[00:32:32] Speaker B: Yeah. First half as well.
[00:32:34] Speaker A: By 12 points. The number one team in conference.
[00:32:36] Speaker B: First half wasn't too bad. We go. You go into halftime only down by two. Even having multiple opportunities to go up.
[00:32:42] Speaker A: Yep.
[00:32:43] Speaker B: Which is tough. Which like kind of kills your momentum a little bit. But you can tell a lot that our offense are.
[00:32:48] Speaker A: The guys started struggling.
[00:32:50] Speaker B: Yeah. But, but the men put in so much effort in the first half.
And I was, I was saying to some people around me, I'm like, if they come out, they put in so much energy. You can tell when they went on offense that.
You can tell when they were playing on offense that they, they had, they put in so much effort to score. And Ozark, honestly, honestly, Ozark didn't put in too much effort to score. It was pretty easy. Like they scored within five seconds.
[00:33:16] Speaker A: It was just A couple missed defensive rotations, kind of what was the game. But like. Yeah, but 12 points on the number one team.
[00:33:22] Speaker B: Exactly. And talking to people, talking to people at halftime, I was like, if they don't come out with the energy they had because it, it really looked like they put in so much effort in the first half.
[00:33:32] Speaker A: Yeah. Because they're so focused on our defense.
[00:33:34] Speaker B: And I feel like if they don't have that same effort, then they're going to lose this game. And, and then add that with the scoring, the, the shooting percentage, the free throw percentage. It was, it was a really tough game.
[00:33:46] Speaker A: It was, it was a hard.
[00:33:47] Speaker B: And the guys weren't happy about it.
[00:33:48] Speaker A: Emotional game.
[00:33:49] Speaker B: It was.
[00:33:49] Speaker A: I mean, again, Ozark didn't win the game. We lost that game. Oh, yeah, lost that.
[00:33:55] Speaker B: Run it back. Run it back, man.
[00:33:56] Speaker A: We, we, we killed ourselves. And so like, Ozark played well. Ozark did play well. But they played well. We had our chances. We could have won.
[00:34:03] Speaker B: But they did. Ozark did not play their best. Because we didn't push them.
[00:34:06] Speaker A: Nope.
[00:34:07] Speaker B: We didn't push them to play their best.
[00:34:08] Speaker A: And so.
[00:34:08] Speaker B: Yeah, so run it back. Let's see what happens. Yeah.
[00:34:10] Speaker A: So 12 point loss, which is not. I mean, it is a little bit more than. Because we lost to them by seven at their place. But we played worse defense there. But we played better offense. But yeah, 12 points, the number one team. So.
[00:34:20] Speaker B: And I like this, I like this game. I like it because it was gritty and our guys, our guys are going to take this. It's just, it left such a bad taste in all their mouths.
[00:34:29] Speaker A: That was game two of three in four days. And so I know we're like, all right, guys, we have to refocus. We can't let one loss that ended our seven game win streak affect how we perform in Monday because Monday is going to be a tough game and was a tough game. And we just, we told him like, we have to. One, you have, you have 20 minutes in the locker room to think about this. And then we're moving on and moving on to Monday. Yeah, and they took that, they accepted it on Monday about it longer than.
[00:34:56] Speaker B: 20 minutes the rest of the night.
[00:34:58] Speaker A: But I mean, I mean it was a rough game watching the games and trying to figure stuff out. But yeah, it was. And it's like, it just, it was unfortunate that, you know, we finally had a bad game like in all areas and it had to be that game.
[00:35:13] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:35:13] Speaker A: But again, we lost. We only lost by 12 points. And so encouraging going into Monday. Was rematch against Faith, which we beat them earlier in the year at their place to take home the cup. Oh, yeah. Which is sitting in Ms. Iverson's training room right now.
[00:35:30] Speaker B: Why?
[00:35:31] Speaker A: Because that's. Because that's where we don't have trophy case. So that's where. That's where it's going.
[00:35:36] Speaker B: That sounds terrible.
[00:35:36] Speaker A: I know, right? We don't have a trophy case.
[00:35:39] Speaker B: If you want to donate money to Emmaus for a trophy case that is in the center of somewhere, please do.
[00:35:45] Speaker A: Please do. Yeah. So Monday's game was. Man, that was a grinding out game.
[00:35:51] Speaker B: Yes, it was.
[00:35:52] Speaker A: It was. Neck played a different defense than they did last time. They played like a two. They played a three, two zone. They played a two man. And it was like. I mean, we knew that they were going to do something different, but we thought it was going to be. They were going to switch things up. But they played a really aggressive three, two zone. And, I mean, we started the game off pretty hot. We. I think we hit like three, three, four threes right away.
But then it went on a run. Yeah, it was a game of runs. That game. It was tied. And we went into halftime tied.
I think it was like 34.
Was it 34? Yeah, 34 to 34. And so wasn't shooting the best. But they. I mean, like, Faith is such a great team when it comes to. They are so scrappy. They get every 50, 50 ball.
[00:36:42] Speaker B: Very well disciplined.
[00:36:43] Speaker A: Another. Yeah, we talked about the women's game. You know, we had 19 turnovers, and we gave up 19 offensive rebounds. We gave faith 48 extra possessions.
48.
You should lose that game if you give the other team almost 50 extra possessions. Oh, yeah, but we didn't. We won 75, 64.
The right Eagles won. But it was. I mean, it was. I'm so proud of this.
[00:37:14] Speaker B: He can say that.
[00:37:15] Speaker A: I can. I am so proud of this team. Like, if this was really. He can hear Wills laugh in the background. If that was any other Emmaus men's basketball team. Like, they went up seven with about.
It was like eight minutes to go, maybe 10 minutes to go. Like, it would have just been downhill from there. But this team did not quit. They did not give up. They. I mean, they. They came back swinging, and we actually ended the game in the last six minutes on a 21 to 6 run. In the last three minutes of the game, we outscored faith 16 to 2.
[00:37:50] Speaker B: That's crazy.
[00:37:50] Speaker A: To win by 11. I mean, I'm so.
[00:37:53] Speaker B: Eli Mackie had that.
[00:37:54] Speaker A: Yeah, he had Three crazy three with a minute.
[00:37:58] Speaker B: You gotta be.
[00:37:59] Speaker A: Well, actually it was crazy because that we were up. So Tatum had scored the possession before Faith came down, called a timeout and then they ran a play and then Lance was guarding the guy with the ball and he poked the ball out and it went off, it went off his hand and went out of bounds. So we got the, it was great defense. We got the ball and then we came down. This was a minute 31 left and Tatum gets double teamed, throws it to Eli in the corner, who just out of nowhere just, just catches the ball and shoots a three with like 20 seconds left.
[00:38:31] Speaker B: Down by how much?
[00:38:32] Speaker A: We were up by two. We were up by two and then just swishes a corner. Three to go, up seven.
[00:38:37] Speaker B: Gutsy.
[00:38:37] Speaker A: And then it was, it was over. And then they, I think fate. So that put us up five. So that was like 67 to 62. Faith came down and scored their 64th point and that was the last they scored. And then we scored.
[00:38:49] Speaker B: Gutsy shot.
[00:38:50] Speaker A: It was, oh, I'm so proud of them because they played, they finished the game and they played so well, especially in the second half. I mean, Tatum had 18 points, six assists. Collier had eight 12 points, eight rebounds, five assists. Nash had 17 points, six rebounds, six assists and five steals. And Eli had 15 points. And Lance played such good defense. I'm just so proud of him because, you know, like you said that the Faith game is always going to be a game that's, that's drawn out. It's always going to be one of the tougher games just because it's two teams that fight for each other. And I mean, we won because the three pointer, we were plus 26 or plus 21 on threes.
But you know, I'm just proud of them that they, even though statistically we should have lost by giving them 50, 50, basically 50 extra possessions, they willed a way to win and we won. And it was amazing.
[00:39:43] Speaker B: To respond that way against Faith and pull out with a win after those are game is a big stamp on the season, honestly. And honestly, I'm starting to think that this podcast is just a way for you to kind of vet about every.
[00:39:57] Speaker A: Every game there's three games and four days is tough.
[00:40:00] Speaker B: It's true, it's true. Well, and then this weekend we're gonna be playing Central as well at 4.
[00:40:05] Speaker A: Four men at 4pm, women at 2pm on Saturday, which is gonna be a.
[00:40:09] Speaker B: Good game as well. It's gonna be, it's pretty much always close when it comes to conference play. So yes, hopefully we can break that record. Get 14 wins for the men's team and let's go. Maybe the women's will pull out a win as well. Get some more confidence going into tournament play and get three wins for the season. We will see.
