[00:00:21] Speaker A: I am. I am Shane Douglas. That's a mouthful.
Season 2 Episode Season 2 no.
[00:00:26] Speaker B: Season 4 Episode 2 Season 4 Dyslexia.
[00:00:29] Speaker A: Episode 2 Mouthful it is good to be back. Last week was good. It was fun getting back in the rhythm with this new format. It was Shane and I'm. I'm enjoying it. So how was your week?
[00:00:38] Speaker B: It was great. Fun weekend full of games. College football is back.
Labor Day was awesome.
So it's fun seeing all the staff and faculty and their families out there with all the students.
That barbecue was nice, wasn't it?
[00:00:51] Speaker A: Sure, yeah. Here at Amazing University we have like an annual weekend full of activities, mostly for the students, of course, but a lot of faculty and staff get involved with sometimes the games, but especially on Monday for the annual sand volleyball competition.
[00:01:04] Speaker B: Annual sand volleyball tournament, which I believe.
[00:01:07] Speaker A: Our bosses won two years in a row.
[00:01:09] Speaker B: I think so. Right?
[00:01:09] Speaker A: Chris Heron, director of admissions and I will give you future students, incoming students, current students, a prize. Free emas, merch money, whatever it takes for you guys to beat that guy next year. Like, come on. I don't know how. He's, he's. He's winning every year. I guess I haven't really watched him play, but maybe he's an all star. Maybe he's like super good. But yeah, they had a barbecue.
[00:01:32] Speaker B: Barbecue.
[00:01:33] Speaker A: Super good.
[00:01:33] Speaker B: Great. They had a lot of fun activities.
[00:01:35] Speaker A: Deconstructed, constructed kebabs. The chicken was great.
[00:01:38] Speaker B: Chicken people.
[00:01:40] Speaker A: People sleep on the chicken. The chicken with the pineapple. Come on. That's good. It's a good. It's a great combo.
[00:01:45] Speaker B: I mean, shout out to our amazing kitchen staff.
[00:01:47] Speaker A: Yeah, everyone did an incredible fun events.
[00:01:50] Speaker B: The sand volleyball. There was a powder puff and a rough and tough flag football game. You know, that was fun.
[00:01:55] Speaker A: Oh, that's true. It's true. True. You know what I noticed? What is the drinks that they were serving was not like soda. It was like more of like the healthier it was.
[00:02:02] Speaker B: I mean, because Jeff had said that he was going to get coconut water and some Hawaiian coffee.
[00:02:07] Speaker A: I guess it goes, it goes with the theme. But I think, I don't think people really like soda that much anymore.
[00:02:12] Speaker B: You think that's all different drinks.
[00:02:14] Speaker A: Maybe that would be a fun thing I'll do with you. Is like the tears of.
[00:02:18] Speaker B: Is that bubbler? Is that poppy? Is it what what is it?
[00:02:21] Speaker A: Sure. Oh, that would be fun, too. Yeah. I don't know. Thinking about the future, but this weekend, a lot of fun. I didn't really do much for Labor Day, but I did watch some Emmaus athletics. I did watch some Emmaus athletics. And it was a pretty busy weekend with a lot going on Friday and Saturday, especially with the volleyball team having four games this weekend, soccer having one, and cross country having a meet.
[00:02:44] Speaker B: Meet. Yeah. Busy. Busy for this weekend. Recap. Also, this upcoming week's pretty busy. Also. NFL's back.
[00:02:51] Speaker A: It's true.
[00:02:51] Speaker B: Thursday today.
[00:02:52] Speaker A: That is true.
[00:02:53] Speaker B: Isn't it crazy?
[00:02:53] Speaker A: You slip that in there.
[00:02:55] Speaker B: But back to Emma.
[00:02:56] Speaker A: Cowboys. Who's winning, Cowboys or Eagles?
[00:02:58] Speaker B: Cowboys are.
[00:03:00] Speaker A: Chargers are winning Friday, so that's all I know.
[00:03:02] Speaker B: They're gonna. They're gonna surprise them on their ring.
[00:03:05] Speaker A: That'd be awesome. That'd be awesome.
[00:03:07] Speaker B: Championship unveil.
[00:03:08] Speaker A: I want. I want Jerry to get a. A ring before he goes, to be honest. And I know that's a hot take. We don't need to really get into that. But let's get into the huddle.
[00:03:15] Speaker B: Yes.
Of Emmaus.
[00:03:17] Speaker A: We're all over the place, Matt. We're all over. All over the place.
All right, let's talk about cross country.
[00:03:21] Speaker B: Bring it together. Ready? Break. Yeah. Cross country. Big, big weekend. First race of the year for both the men's and the women's team. A little bit unique circumstances. Shane.
The race was delayed because of rain, and they were going to try to push it forward to beat the storm system that was coming in because it was like, there was like a little gap in between the storm system, and then they. There was lightning, so they had to push it back 30 minutes. But there was still enough gap before the next system rolled in that they decided to have the men's and the women's teams run exactly the same time together.
[00:03:56] Speaker A: And how'd that go? Like, as a whole, how'd that go?
[00:03:58] Speaker B: It was pretty fun. I mean, there was. All the men's teams were on the left side at the start, all the women's teams were on the right side to start. And there's probably about 200 or so athletes just out there. And then when the gun went off, you know, just the torment of people just going down the straightaway. But it was really cool because, like, 5K, because the reason they were able to do that was because both teams are running 5K, because that's what the women run. Men were not able to.
They, because they were in 8k, weren't able to qualify for anything. But yeah, it was really cool. Especially on the women's side. Big shout out to Anna Coniglio rc.
[00:04:32] Speaker A: There you go.
[00:04:32] Speaker B: Qualified for her fourth straight nationals race headline.
[00:04:36] Speaker A: That's the headline of this weekend.
[00:04:38] Speaker B: Shout out.
[00:04:38] Speaker A: Anna is Anna Coniglio four time national qualifier.
Were super impressive. Sometimes people only get to nationals once as an individual. You know some people get there four times and Anna like one year maybe.
[00:04:52] Speaker B: The team qualifies or and the next year they, they doesn't. But she's been there every single year and it's awesome.
[00:04:57] Speaker A: Super cool. So congratulation to, to Anna Coniglio. Make sure you give her a huge shout out when you see her. If you're an EMA student, faculty, staff or alum when you come for a homecoming weekend or whenever you're on campus, find Anna, give her a shout out, give her her, her flowers. Very well deserved, Very well deserved.
[00:05:15] Speaker B: A great tenure at Emmaus.
[00:05:18] Speaker A: Let's talk about the women's cross country.
[00:05:19] Speaker B: So it was a. Yeah it was, it was a nice race for both the men's and the women's. Just scrolling back looking from a, a bigger picture just because there we have a lot of new runners on the, on both teams. So getting that experience in the, at the collegiate level against other college runners.
It was really cool. Shane. Because our second fastest runner Joy did not race but our women's total team time was just seven minutes off. Qualifying for nationals as a team.
[00:05:46] Speaker A: Not bad.
[00:05:47] Speaker B: So that's super encouraging especially with the.
[00:05:49] Speaker A: First race with a lot of new runners, new bodies, maybe a little bit.
[00:05:52] Speaker B: Of jitters going into it. Yeah, the weather, the weather kind of messing up stuff.
[00:05:56] Speaker A: Yeah, I know sometimes you might not want some cold weather. It affects. We're like oh, I'm running a different.
[00:06:01] Speaker B: I'm running next to a bunch of boys like.
[00:06:02] Speaker A: Yeah, like the whole, the whole unique situation, the unique race itself might have, might have affected, could have thrown people off. Yeah everyone.
[00:06:10] Speaker B: Yeah it was really encouraging to seeing them, them run and them compete especially in that first race of the year and then seeing the, the men's team, you know, having faster times because it's a 5k but top four runners on our team all finished within 40 seconds.
[00:06:25] Speaker A: Super impressive.
[00:06:26] Speaker B: And like Coach Reddy told us he was really impressed and excited about that because those four guys kind of run in, in packed together and they really compete against each other and race each other and to see them race, you know, compete within that, that small time frame, it's really encouraging when they go up to the 8k race because they're going to be competing with and against each other and pushing each other. And that was also one really cool thing. Shane, at the race to see is all 10 runners, because everyone was running together, obviously, men and women, all 10 runners at the end. So like they would come up over a hill and there would be maybe, I don't know, maybe a 200 yard stretch to get to the finish line.
Every single runner. Mas runner outran the people around him.
[00:07:12] Speaker A: I love it.
[00:07:13] Speaker B: It was really cool. Just like that mental fortitude of like, yeah, okay, there's the finish line. I gotta keep pushing all out to pass people because it was cool. Like Nathan Bean past three people in that straw to get to the finish line. Isaac Sauerpass, I think one or two people. Riley Rath passed like three people. Two people. So it was really cool to see that, especially in that first race of like, okay, here I am. We're gonna go get this.
[00:07:34] Speaker A: And that strategy is that coach really wants them to. To hold off some energy towards the end. I mean, most teams definitely do that, but it's really cool to see our team execute. You know, it's. It's one thing of coach telling their athletes, hey, say like, save the injury some energy for the end. Obviously push yourself the entire race, but make sure you have enough to. To really stretch yourself to chase.
[00:07:54] Speaker B: Don't empty the tank.
[00:07:55] Speaker A: Chase after that finish line, right? There's gonna be a few people ahead of you, as it did with our race this last Friday.
Chase after them, have somebody to compete against, run past them.
And it's something to coach, but to see the execution is. Is huge. So having such a young team.
[00:08:11] Speaker B: I know, right?
[00:08:12] Speaker A: Young team to be able to execute that in their first race is definitely a highlight. Definitely something to be like, yeah, be proud. And hopefully they can carry that into the next races in the future and see what they're able to do going forward. But what something. I was really cool that we got a quote from Coach Girardi from this weekend is honoring Jesus, you know, kind of the. The ultimate thing. And he quotes or we quote Coach Gerardi. Our ultimate goal is to honor and glorify God through our racing and making the most of the opportunities. I believe Coach Roddy said, I believe that this happened today as we began our season. No better way to kick off the season with accomplishing with that or with accomplishing those goals. And super cool to see that. Coach Girardi sees it and a lot of other people see it too, in the circles and Racing against a lot of D3 schools. In this last race, we were the.
[00:09:04] Speaker B: Only Christian school that was there. So it was really cool to hear him say that and for the teams to actually live that out and do that.
[00:09:11] Speaker A: And, and speaking of that, speaking of playing or competing against a lot of non Christian schools, our volleyball team.
[00:09:18] Speaker B: Yes, volleyball team had a big weekend, Shane. Against all four Division three teams. All four teams they played were Division three.
[00:09:25] Speaker A: Oh, yeah, sure. Let's play four. There's five there, so.
[00:09:27] Speaker B: Yeah. And some good compet.
It was a tough weekend. We talked about last week how Coach Hannah really wants to kick off the year against tough competition because like I've. This is what I've said before. You know, you got to play against the best teams in August to then be able to compete against the best teams in November at regionals.
[00:09:45] Speaker A: You like that quote?
[00:09:45] Speaker B: I do.
[00:09:46] Speaker A: He's been saying that quote all day.
[00:09:47] Speaker B: I have. It's. Yeah, right here. No, I'm just kidding. But yeah, no, it's so true though, because they played like they started the year off against four incredibly tough teams. Like their first game on Friday against Aurora, like that team was really good.
[00:09:59] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:10:00] Speaker B: And kind of kind of shocked the girls to start the year because it was tough. But they, they still competed. They still played the best that they could. But going into that second meet against Martin Luther, the second match against Martin Luther, you know, we changed up some. Coach Hannah changed up some rotation things and lineup and that seemed to really help the ladies out there. And so, yeah, you know, they. We lost 3030 on Friday, but just the mindset going into Saturday because, you know, you. The competition is stiff. The girls did not hang their heads. They did not quit. They did not give up. They went into Saturday's game in an early game at that too.
[00:10:41] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:10:41] Speaker B: Just excited. And they went out there and took the first set off University Wisconsin Superior. That was really cool to see.
[00:10:48] Speaker A: Very impressive.
[00:10:48] Speaker B: Very impressive. Yeah. And then they competed the entire rest of that match. Ended up losing 31 to UW Superior, who is a UMAC opponent.
And then they played the host team, Ripping also took a set off them.
[00:11:02] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:11:03] Speaker B: End up losing that 3:1. But you know, Coach Hannah was saying this, this weekend was going to be really mental. This is going to be a mental battle for our team to end the year.
[00:11:13] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:11:13] Speaker B: Especially because we need to take those last, you know, that last tournament weekend at regionals seriously and we need to have that mental, that mental fortitude to be able to go out there and compete and win to then go to nationals, which this weekend was definitely a building block in that.
[00:11:27] Speaker A: And I think. I think we could say this fairly is that was.
That's always been something that our team has. Has dealt with in the past. We've had a lot of young players on the team throughout the years, but now we have a lot of upperclassmen, a lot of veterans out there, a lot of experience. A lot of experience. And it's cool when you have the. Because before, when you know these, these are, you know, these women, when they were younger, when they didn't have that experience, they didn't really have a lot of people teaching them. As Hannah kind of restarted the program, Coach Hannah did. But now we have these upperclassmen teaching this experience, teaching this mental mindset of winning the moment.
[00:12:05] Speaker B: Yes. Their. Their motto this year, Modeling the moment.
[00:12:07] Speaker A: Winning the moment. Passing that down. And the underclassmen, the first year students, the new ones can see that model that, you know, the form of mentorship, discipleship there of just very casual, but something that they can rub off on each other and really grow our younger players.
[00:12:24] Speaker B: Yep.
[00:12:25] Speaker A: So that when they're upperclassmen, they can pass that on as well. But it really just affects the whole team as a whole.
[00:12:30] Speaker B: It does.
[00:12:30] Speaker A: And you see that Coach Hannah saw that and she was not disappointed that.
[00:12:33] Speaker B: Nope.
[00:12:34] Speaker A: They walked away from the weekend 0 and 4 because they knew that, you know, they took a step in the right direction. Yes.
[00:12:40] Speaker B: Especially conference and regional. Yes.
[00:12:42] Speaker A: And we're not trying to be over optimistic. I know we can be over optimistic.
[00:12:45] Speaker B: We definitely can be. But this is, I mean, this is the truth. Like, especially, like, if you go out there and, like, you know, you perform poorly and you don't learn from it, then it's. Then it's a true loss. But when you go out there and you lose, but you learn from it and you improve for next time, that's a learning opportunity and that's so important.
[00:13:01] Speaker A: Yeah, I mean, we've, We've. We are very positive. We try to be on this podcast and we try not to. I mean, we, we work with these people. We see them every day. We care for them, hang out with.
[00:13:11] Speaker B: Them all the time.
[00:13:11] Speaker A: The Lord has used us to bring them in, to bring them to Emmaus. And so we care for each other here at Emmaus. And yeah, we can be over optimistic. But we're truly telling you guys just the truth here is that Coach Hannah and Coach Megan, they really set the, the schedule hard at the beginning. They did it last year and look where they Went, you know, literally a set away from Nationals point. Away from Nationals point. You know, many, many sets. But the opportunity, I should say, but like this year, starting out hard, creating that opportunity to win the moment, to create that mental, you know, fortitude, toughness. Yeah. To. To be prepared for the later seasons. Like your quote at the very, very beginning. So it's just really cool to see the girls walk away from the weekend.
[00:13:57] Speaker B: Yes.
[00:13:58] Speaker A: And.
[00:13:58] Speaker B: And be positive. Yes, exactly. Be excited, be energetic to continue fighting on and especially coming into this weekend. But two really cool things that happened this weekend. Shane was Jennica Beach.
[00:14:09] Speaker A: Yes.
[00:14:09] Speaker B: Thousandth dig at Emmaus. She became the Emmaus eagle to reach a thousand digs. So big congratulations to Jennica on that. And then also coming in kind of what we started the huddle with, another really cool thing was Caitlin ran.
Was messaged on Instagram.
[00:14:28] Speaker A: Yes.
[00:14:28] Speaker B: From a person at Ripon that messaged her and said that she was really impressed and she was really excited to see the love of Jesus radiating off of Caitlyn that weekend. And it really showed to her. How cool is that, Shane?
[00:14:44] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:14:44] Speaker B: That she searched her down. She searched her down. She had to go on Instagram and you know, go to find her. Yeah.
[00:14:50] Speaker A: Go to our athletic website. Be like, which player was it? That's. That must be. I think that was.
[00:14:54] Speaker B: Let me find her and. And messenger. So how cool is that? That Caitlyn. Good job Caitlyn. And the rest of the women's volleyball team.
[00:14:59] Speaker A: Caitlin. I mean, yeah, shout out to Caitlin. But for sure, like she's just in the testimony of the entire team.
[00:15:03] Speaker B: Yes.
[00:15:04] Speaker A: She's a test. They're. They're test the Kaylin's being the testimony of the entire team in this, in this story. The entire team does the same exact thing. Right. It's not just obviously it's not just Caitlyn, it's everyone else.
[00:15:14] Speaker B: So it's that first C. That coach Hannah. Really.
[00:15:16] Speaker A: Yeah. But then they're just a testimony of.
[00:15:18] Speaker B: The school of Emmaus, of what Emmaus is and who we are.
[00:15:21] Speaker A: And Emmaus is just a testimony of Christ.
[00:15:23] Speaker B: Right.
[00:15:23] Speaker A: So it always goes back to the end. And they had an opportunity at the end of the game to pray with each team, each match to pray with these NC NCAA teams. D3 not Christian, non Christian schools.
[00:15:35] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:15:36] Speaker A: Pray with them with. With no problems. No problem.
[00:15:38] Speaker B: Really cool to see that.
[00:15:39] Speaker A: So it's super cool to see how whatever the Lord.
[00:15:41] Speaker B: Praise the Lord for that opportunity.
[00:15:42] Speaker A: Yeah.
How the Lord's able to use that and people are seeing it and watching it, yes, it definitely helps, you know, when you walk away 0 and 4 of the weekend to know that you, you were able to shine a light to people.
[00:15:56] Speaker B: Right. I mean it goes back to the saying of, of sports. Like sports doesn't build character, reveals character. And in those low moments, you know, showing where your true priority is in Jesus, like obviously like we talk all the time, we want to compete and play our best and we want to win. But if we're not representing Christ well in the wins and the losses, then.
[00:16:16] Speaker A: Vanity this not might not be the best transition right here. But going from 04 to 4 0.
[00:16:24] Speaker B: Men'S SOCCE had a big regional matchup that was pretty good. Shout out Shane for that transition.
[00:16:32] Speaker A: Our men's soccer team won 40 this weekend against Kuiper. A regional matchup, 10 in the region which is awesome.
[00:16:39] Speaker B: Big move. But the men 2 and 0 on the season.
[00:16:42] Speaker A: It's true 20 in the season and got a really tough matchup this upcoming weekend. But we'll, we'll get into that. But they played really well.
[00:16:50] Speaker B: Yeah, they played great first half. I mean like we talk about cross country being a weird race, kind of a weird game with, with Kuiper or.
[00:16:57] Speaker A: Just a weird weekend all around.
[00:16:58] Speaker B: Yeah. Like Coach McHugh said that their attack was a lot better this game than it was against Trinity last week. But shout out to Ben Spangler and James.
First career goals for the both of them.
[00:17:11] Speaker A: Shout out boys. There we go.
[00:17:12] Speaker B: Let's go. That's super exciting. And then obviously Jake and Claudia has both netted a goal too.
Keeping putting that work in but really cool Jake, Matt leading the nation in assists.
[00:17:22] Speaker A: Super cool. Of course he's hungry man. He's up there. He's attacking man.
[00:17:27] Speaker B: So yeah, he's also leading the nation in shots on.
[00:17:29] Speaker A: Yeah, so coach said the, the attack was so much better this, this game as a whole.
One of his quotes is some of the best attacking moments games that they have produced over the past few years. So coach was very proud of the guys and what they were able to accomplish this in this game against Kuiper. Like you said at the beginning, it was a little odd a game ended 10 units early. Yeah, very unique game. There was some, some scheduling that Kuiper had that really made some of the guys on their roster pretty tired.
[00:18:01] Speaker B: Like you said, they played a game basically 18 hours prior. They had to drive seven hours, you know, there and back. Got to campus at 4 like 12.
[00:18:10] Speaker A: Hours 4am yeah, they, I think they.
[00:18:13] Speaker B: Had a game and played at 1.
[00:18:14] Speaker A: They had a night game like around 6 or 7pm the night before in Chicago. Had to drive back, got back very late and then had a game at noon Eastern time.
So pretty tough.
[00:18:24] Speaker B: They end up calling the game 10 minutes early because just they, they were exhausted and they ended up having. I think at one point there was like six guys in the field for Kuiper.
[00:18:32] Speaker A: So, so very confusing.
[00:18:33] Speaker B: It was.
[00:18:33] Speaker A: We don't, we don't. We know that we, we very know minor details of the, the whole story. The whole matchup. But we just shared that with you guys. But we know Kuiper is going to come to.
[00:18:43] Speaker B: Yeah. Because we play them again in two weeks here at Emmaus.
[00:18:46] Speaker A: They're coming to our field and they're going to bring it. So I'm, I'm excited to really see Kuiper's true strength.
[00:18:51] Speaker B: Hopefully with a full team.
[00:18:52] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:18:53] Speaker B: Hopefully we still beat them, which we should. Yeah.
[00:18:54] Speaker A: But yeah, that'll be during a homecoming weekend. But so we'll definitely see Kuiper again. They're definitely going to be more competitive and looking forward to that. Yeah. Because Kuiper was a really good team last year that competed well against our men's team.
Being a very athletic, good group and a young team too. So we'll be able to see what they're able to do in a couple weeks.
[00:19:18] Speaker B: Yes.
[00:19:18] Speaker A: You know, with, with no excuses. No excuses. You know, because that's the thing is like, like, yeah. And on this we, we, we. We got the good side of the excuse.
[00:19:29] Speaker B: Yep.
[00:19:29] Speaker A: You know, but I do want everyone to know like, hey, Kuiper is not a team to, to sleep on.
[00:19:33] Speaker B: Nope.
[00:19:34] Speaker A: Because they're good. So we'll see how things go in a couple weeks. But all around great attacking match for the team. They did. They, they played really well. Didn't have a lot of mistakes.
That 13 corner kicks, pretty exciting.
[00:19:47] Speaker B: And they held Kuiper to only two shots.
[00:19:49] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:19:50] Speaker B: @ all. So that's pretty.
[00:19:51] Speaker A: Coach is super excited about the defense this year. We got some young center backs with Hassan and Hassan was back.
[00:19:57] Speaker B: So Bennett was able to play up and.
[00:19:58] Speaker A: Yeah. Which definitely. Which definitely will help the attacking game. But yeah, Coach seeing. He's really excited for the pair that we have in the back seeing what they were able to accomplish this year in the upcoming years here in Emmaus. But. And then there was a great turnout of the Emmaus fans.
[00:20:13] Speaker B: A lot of people traveled to Canada and from Michigan.
[00:20:17] Speaker A: Awesome.
[00:20:18] Speaker B: I know PJ's family was there. The mats were there. Son's family came down.
[00:20:21] Speaker A: So, yeah, PJ's family travels. They go, they go to a lot of games. So, you know, shout out to the Johnson. Shout out to the Johnsons. There we go. But yeah, so confusing, but still a good win. Excited for the wins. A win win's a win. They played very well in the region, but yeah, I think the guys are pretty excited.
A lot of guys getting minutes these last couple games.
So it's cool to see a lot of the younger guys be able to sharpen the last two games to be able to be prepared. Just like our volleyball team prepares them at the early on with hard matchups, these guys are going to be able to have that time to develop on the field with these last two games. And I think this upcoming matchup is going to be another really tough one.
[00:21:01] Speaker B: Be another show.
[00:21:02] Speaker A: Yeah. Which will, which, I mean, we'll get into, you know, real quickly. But right now let's get into a little break that kind of wraps break that wraps up the weekend activities, weekend games for our soccer team, women's volleyball, and our cross country teams and their success and what they were able to be accomplished on the field, on the court and off the field, off the court, especially impacting the world for Christ in those moments. But time for the fast break.
[00:21:29] Speaker B: Fast break.
So last, last week, Shane, you asked me to rank.
[00:21:36] Speaker A: That was a good list.
[00:21:37] Speaker B: Blind rank 5 May as meals.
[00:21:39] Speaker A: It's a good list.
[00:21:40] Speaker B: It was a good list.
[00:21:40] Speaker A: You did well. You clutched it out, man.
[00:21:42] Speaker B: Yes. And so now I'm going to ask you, Shane, some Emmaus athletics trivia.
[00:21:47] Speaker A: Okay.
[00:21:47] Speaker B: Are you ready?
[00:21:48] Speaker A: Yeah. I hope, I hope I don't look like a fool.
[00:21:51] Speaker B: All right, Shane.
[00:21:52] Speaker A: Yeah, man.
[00:21:53] Speaker B: First we're gonna look at some volleyball stats.
[00:21:56] Speaker A: Do you not need nothing?
[00:21:57] Speaker B: I don't need it. No.
[00:21:58] Speaker A: Wait, what's with you and stuff?
[00:21:59] Speaker B: You know, I'm the stats guy, man.
[00:22:01] Speaker A: So boring.
[00:22:03] Speaker B: At least the stats guy from Emmaus for the years that we actually recorded stats. But we won't talk about that. Okay, women's volleyball chain.
Okay, what number is the most kills in a match?
[00:22:17] Speaker A: Yo, In a match.
[00:22:18] Speaker B: In a match.
So it could be three sets, could be four sets, could be five sets. The most that an Emmaus women's volleyball players had in one match.
[00:22:31] Speaker A: I got a number in my head, but I know it's probably wrong. I think it's way too much. Okay, this is a crazy.
Is it like an extreme number? Like, is it pretty?
[00:22:41] Speaker B: Like, I mean, I don't. I mean, not. It's not extreme extreme, but it's pretty high.
[00:22:48] Speaker A: I don't know. I'm gonna go 21.
[00:22:51] Speaker B: 21.
[00:22:52] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:22:52] Speaker B: Final answer.
[00:22:53] Speaker A: Sure.
[00:22:54] Speaker B: It is not 21. Higher, higher.
[00:22:57] Speaker A: 36.
[00:22:58] Speaker B: A little lower.
[00:22:58] Speaker A: Okay. That was my first number. 36.
[00:23:00] Speaker B: 30.
[00:23:01] Speaker A: 30. Okay.
[00:23:01] Speaker B: 30 is the, is the high. Do you know by who?
[00:23:05] Speaker A: Current or past?
[00:23:06] Speaker B: She's on the current team.
[00:23:08] Speaker A: Is it Caitlin?
[00:23:09] Speaker B: Yep. Caitlin had a 30 kill match last year.
[00:23:14] Speaker A: Sweet shout out to Caitlyn.
[00:23:16] Speaker B: Yes. So that's, that's a big. That's.
[00:23:17] Speaker A: That's a record.
[00:23:18] Speaker B: That's a record. Yep. Did we talk about that second highest? I think we did last. Yeah, whatever it was. Second highest is 28 by when Vanderstall back in 2017.
[00:23:26] Speaker A: I remember.
[00:23:27] Speaker B: All right, next. Next. Trivia, Shane.
[00:23:30] Speaker A: Okay. I like the past trivia more than I like it.
[00:23:34] Speaker B: I. I shot a lot of threes when I was in college. Yeah, I love three pointers. Okay, what is the men's basketball record for most threes made in one game?
[00:23:45] Speaker A: Dude, I was at that game.
[00:23:45] Speaker B: You were at that game?
[00:23:46] Speaker A: I was at that game. Oh, dude, it's. It was you and Stevie. And was it the second half that you guys just popped off because you popped off in the first?
[00:23:54] Speaker B: No, he went off.
[00:23:54] Speaker A: Oh, in a game.
[00:23:55] Speaker B: In a game.
[00:23:56] Speaker A: He popped off in the first. He popped off in the second.
[00:23:58] Speaker B: But most made by one player in one game.
[00:24:00] Speaker A: One player.
[00:24:01] Speaker B: One player in one game.
[00:24:02] Speaker A: Oh, like the most points.
[00:24:03] Speaker B: What's the most three pointers made by one player in one game?
[00:24:09] Speaker A: Nine.
[00:24:10] Speaker B: Nine.
Final answer?
[00:24:13] Speaker A: No.
[00:24:14] Speaker B: You want to rethink that?
[00:24:15] Speaker A: No, it's more than nine. I'm going to go like 14.
[00:24:18] Speaker B: 14?
[00:24:18] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:24:19] Speaker B: Final answer?
[00:24:19] Speaker A: Sure.
[00:24:20] Speaker B: It is not 14.
[00:24:21] Speaker A: What the heck?
[00:24:21] Speaker B: It is 12.
[00:24:22] Speaker A: Ah, that's close.
[00:24:24] Speaker B: And you know who did that?
[00:24:25] Speaker A: Was it you?
[00:24:26] Speaker B: That was not me.
[00:24:27] Speaker A: That was terrible. Was it Stevie?
[00:24:29] Speaker B: It was Stevie.
[00:24:30] Speaker A: Of course.
[00:24:30] Speaker B: Stevie Horn. 2017 hit 12 three pointers in one game.
[00:24:34] Speaker A: I remember that game because you, I think, wait, you set the record in the first half and then he beat it in the second.
[00:24:38] Speaker B: He couldn't let me have the record.
But yes, that has been your Emmaus trivia. This has been fast break.
[00:24:45] Speaker A: That's all I got.
[00:24:45] Speaker B: That's all you got, Shane.
[00:24:47] Speaker A: Give me something else. One more.
[00:24:49] Speaker B: One more.
[00:24:49] Speaker A: Do you have one, like right off the top of the dome?
[00:24:51] Speaker B: All right, here's the. Nah. No. Come on.
[00:24:53] Speaker A: Okay, give me one more.
[00:24:54] Speaker B: Was the all time leading score in single game for men's basketball.
[00:24:57] Speaker A: Well, Jared Dow.
[00:24:58] Speaker B: Jared Dow. What was the number?
[00:25:00] Speaker A: Was it like 54.
[00:25:01] Speaker B: 52.
[00:25:02] Speaker A: 52. I was gonna say 52, but I thought what does Stevie score? Was it 44 or something like that?
[00:25:07] Speaker B: He had 42.
[00:25:08] Speaker A: 42. Okay. Because. Okay. Wow. Big difference. Jared went off of that game.
[00:25:13] Speaker B: He did.
[00:25:13] Speaker A: I'm excited for Jared Dow this year. You know, he really worked. He put a lot of work in the off season. So. But that's for basketball.
But thank you Matt, for the trivia.
[00:25:22] Speaker B: Yes.
[00:25:22] Speaker A: I think people are going to enjoy my games more.
[00:25:25] Speaker B: I don't know, whatever.
[00:25:26] Speaker A: We'll find out. We'll find out who's breaks are better, but. Okay, well, let's talk about what's coming up for this upcoming weekend.
[00:25:33] Speaker B: We got up.
[00:25:34] Speaker A: We have some games this weekend. This Friday, Saturday and next Tuesday.
[00:25:39] Speaker B: Shane, tell us about soccer. What's up? Coming for soccer.
[00:25:42] Speaker A: So we are playing. We have a very, very hard matchup. Actually two very important matchups coming up. So our men's team is going to be playing against Northwestern Friday. This Friday around 4pm Division 3 UMAC team. So that's going to be a really good one.
And then.
Yeah. So Northwestern was a tough game like you said Umac.
[00:26:05] Speaker B: Right. Last year I think we lost 5, 0 up there on turf. So they're, they're coming down here on plan our grass field.
[00:26:11] Speaker A: They're N, double C, double A, D1.
[00:26:14] Speaker B: Yep. And NCA Division 3.
[00:26:16] Speaker A: Yeah. So they're very, they're a larger school, more athletes.
So it's going to be super tough. But they get to come down here. I wonder what their athletes are going to think of our field. I want to ask them like, do you guys like it?
[00:26:27] Speaker B: It'll distract them maybe.
[00:26:29] Speaker A: Yes, but so we play against them at 4pm home game. So if you're around, come out to the fish field for that. Last year I think we lost five nil.
So hopefully we'll see where we stand where we stand compared to last year. I think this is going to be a huge testing game to our defense.
[00:26:45] Speaker B: I'm excited to see how they do.
[00:26:47] Speaker A: If our attack can hold like it did against ripping. So. Or not ripping, but Kuipers.
[00:26:53] Speaker B: Yep. And speaking of ripping, ripping, another Division.
[00:26:56] Speaker A: 3 team, our men's soccer team will travel to ripon Tuesday the 9th, September 9th to play ripping at Ripon around 4pm as well. So you can definitely keep in touch with our social media and where you can watch that.
[00:27:10] Speaker B: Yes.
[00:27:10] Speaker A: Uh, what about uh, uh, volleyball team?
[00:27:13] Speaker B: Yep, Volleyball has a home try match this weekend, uh, with Spurgeon and Moody coming to town so we'll play Spurgeon at 11am on Saturday and then play Moody at 3pm Moody also a regional opponent, so be good opportunity for the volleyball team to play. And A, another N, double C, double A schools. And then next Tuesday a big one in town game at Clark University at 7:30. So we played with JV earlier in this year, but Clark is NAIA. So excited to see how our team competes against them.
[00:27:50] Speaker A: Yeah, I mean their JV comes to our campus. We play extremely well against them, very competitive. And I think Clark's noticed that. And now they're like, all right, you wanna, you wanna taste the varsity? All right, let's, let's, let's go, let's come on and but something to really mention here is that these are home games. Home games for the volleyball team. First home game of the season. You better be there Saturday. We better see you this Saturday so we can pack the house against Spurgeon.
Goodness yes.
Both rivals.
[00:28:17] Speaker B: Let's again Spurgeon and Moody. There might be some Emmaus volleyball history that happens that day. So you guys better be out there to find out what it is.
[00:28:25] Speaker A: And then Clark's also in debut. So I mean, come on, let's just travel. It's like a two minute drive.
[00:28:30] Speaker B: And then cross country is on the road this week. Shane. Yes. They're down in Pella, Iowa at the Pella Invitational. Pretty big race that's gonna be there. I think some fellow NCCA schools will also be there. So excited to see our runners with another week and the men being able to run 5k. Unless it's a 6k, I don't know, but I think it's an 8k so.
[00:28:51] Speaker A: Well, we got homecoming coming up. Yeah, but so make sure to keep it, write it down your calendars. What's the date for that, Matt?
[00:28:58] Speaker B: September 26th and 27th. Homecoming for Emmaus alumni, students and their parents, their families. So grandparents out there, excited to see you guys come down. Friends of the college.
[00:29:09] Speaker A: We'll have some matches home.
[00:29:11] Speaker B: Awesome opportunity. A lot of fun stuff that goes on then. But the week prior to that. Shane, we have our big Discover Emmaus weekend.
[00:29:19] Speaker A: Yeah, that's going to be September 18th to the 20th. You would arrive Thursday evening, stay all day Friday, experience life as a Emmaus University student. Go to classes, chapel, hang out with people, maybe even study if you want. Go to the Bean, a bunch of other breakout stuff as well. Just kind of learning about the experience, the opportunities here we have at Emmaus. And then an awesome concert Friday night, 7pm Jarvis Campbell, Chris Remsma here on campus to give us a an acoustic concert set. It's gonna be awesome. Can't wait.
So big fan of both of them. Been listening to Jervis's music for a while and Chris's most recent.
Really love Chris. Chris Remza is a great.
[00:30:02] Speaker B: I really enjoyed both of them.
[00:30:03] Speaker A: Great lyrics both of them. So can't wait for that.

[00:30:52] Speaker A: Our our athletes are away. So if you want to watch that, take that look and if you want to be a recruited athlete choke go check out our athletics page and click Recruit me.
Take that step to become an Eagle. And we we would love to have you here or come out for a visit due weekend or a personal one but.
Well Matt, you typically do the outro and you do. You did the intro today but Shane Douglas, my turn.
[00:31:15] Speaker B: What day is it?
[00:31:16] Speaker A: I've never done this before. Well, today is a great day to be an Eagle. See you next week.
[00:31:20] Speaker B: See you guys.
[00:31:27] Speaker A: Sa.
