[00:00:23] Speaker A: And welcome back to the official Emmaus athletic podcast in the nest. I'm your co host, Shane. Hey, Douglas. I'm here with my other co host, Matthew Tomlinson. Welcome back, Matt.
[00:00:37] Speaker B: Welcome back, Shane. Season three. Season three. Here we go. Holy cow.
[00:00:42] Speaker A: The official podcast of Emmaus athletics right here with your voices, Matthew Thomason and Shane Douglas, myself.
[00:00:48] Speaker B: Yes, sir.
[00:00:48] Speaker A: We are excited to bring you this season for Emmaus athletics. It was an exciting summer. It's been an exciting summer.
[00:00:54] Speaker B: It's an exciting summer.
[00:00:55] Speaker A: We're both in enrollment, so we brought in a large class.
[00:00:57] Speaker B: Praise the lord for that.
[00:00:59] Speaker A: So we had 86 students come in this year, which is a record high in the last, like seven years.
[00:01:06] Speaker B: Seven, eight years. Yeah.
[00:01:06] Speaker A: You know, kiss Covid goodbye. You know, that's up.
[00:01:09] Speaker B: That's new era's here.
[00:01:11] Speaker A: New era is here. So with the 86 students, how many students did we bring in for student athletics?
[00:01:16] Speaker B: Oh, we brought in 29 new eagles.
[00:01:20] Speaker A: 29 new eagles that are excited to get started to hit the field.
[00:01:24] Speaker B: 86 new eagles. 29 new athletic eagles, I think.
[00:01:27] Speaker A: Did I say 80? You said 86.
[00:01:29] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:01:29] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:01:29] Speaker B: But 29 new athletic eagles.
[00:01:31] Speaker A: Yeah. That's what we're talking about. So super excited for this season. This is gonna be a little intro episode, everybody. Just letting you get to know and get hyped for this season, for this cross country season. They're gonna be amazing this year. They're gonna tear up the course.
The soccer team is gonna be also incredible. We brought a lot of returners back from last year. Lot of young players, new players coming in. Amazing. So looking forward to that. They're gonna be better than ever. And then we have amazing volleyball roster as well.
[00:02:02] Speaker B: Brought back the entire team, plus added some key pieces. It's gonna be so very, this year.
[00:02:08] Speaker A: Very exciting for.
[00:02:10] Speaker B: Great time to be an Emmaus eagle. It really is.
[00:02:13] Speaker A: So we're really excited about that. And we even hope to bring a lot of more new content to you guys this year. Looking to get out there, not just be in here. Right. So we will. We'll save it. We'll save it for the screen, save it for our YouTube channel, for the video, for you listeners on Spotify, Apple Music, wherever you do listen for your podcast, you gotta get on YouTube. Gotta get on YouTube. Give us a listen. Give us a notification bell so that you know when we are posting our videos. 09:00 a.m. every Thursday. So get that notification bell.
[00:02:47] Speaker B: Join us as we're on our road around Emmaus.
[00:02:50] Speaker A: There we go. So we will get out of this booth and out there on the field, on the court, talking to players, talking to fans, come to the games, talking to alum, if you're alum, if you're a family member, come to the games. Maybe you'll see us out there and maybe you can get on this show.
[00:03:07] Speaker B: If you support Armenia seagulls, of course.
[00:03:09] Speaker A: There we go. So we're a lot of excited, man.
[00:03:12] Speaker B: It's gonna be great. It is great. It really is. I know that we get excited every single year, and I am so excited because students are back after the long summer. But like, man, the Emmaus athletics keeps taking those steps in the right direction and chain. This year, it's really exciting.
[00:03:31] Speaker A: I mean, being part of enrollment, we really get to see the ins and out of a lot of departments. We work with every single department, so we very things work. And what I love to tell our students, especially the new eagles that we are getting this year, are that, uh. It's gonna be exciting. It's a great time to become an eagle.
[00:03:50] Speaker B: Yes.
[00:03:51] Speaker A: Time to be an eagle. So a lot of new things are coming. Not a lot of new things are happening here at Emmaus. A lot of growth, not just in a student body, but also all over the place, which is super exciting. But like we just said, in the nest is growing. We are looking to expand great upcoming.
[00:04:09] Speaker B: Segments, so stay tuned.
[00:04:10] Speaker A: Like Shane said, it'll be trial and error. We'll see what works and what doesn't. And please let us know if it doesn't work.
[00:04:15] Speaker B: Ugly.
[00:04:16] Speaker A: But let's get into the this season real quick, actually, before we get into the new season. How was your summer, Matt?
[00:04:21] Speaker B: Well, Shane, it was really good. As you know, we traveled a lot.
[00:04:25] Speaker A: We did travel a lot.
[00:04:26] Speaker B: My family travel a lot. We were at camps all summer long for the most part. I was at three different things. You were at several different things. I had the opportunity to go serve at fellowship of christian athletes camp in Iowa with some of our other coaches, and that was a lot of fun. There was over 450 high schoolers that were there and some middle schoolers. So it was really cool to get our name out there, coach up these high school and middle school athletes and then just going to camp also, we were up at a camp up in Wisconsin with some deep Emmaus roots.
[00:04:58] Speaker A: Lake Geneva.
[00:04:59] Speaker B: Yep. Conference point center. And it was just. It was really good.
[00:05:02] Speaker A: Yeah, I had the opportunity, we both had opportunity to go to challenge conference.
[00:05:06] Speaker B: Challenge conference was Kansas City.
[00:05:09] Speaker A: Really great conference.
[00:05:10] Speaker B: About 4000 high schoolers that were there.
[00:05:12] Speaker A: Part of the EFCA church. They do a fantastic job of really training young high school students to get their hands dirty in ministry. Yes. Probably not the best words to use there, but you know what I mean, to have experiential learning of not just sitting in sessions, but going out.
[00:05:29] Speaker B: That's what it's like. No, they go out there and they do it and they see it firsthand.
[00:05:32] Speaker A: So we were there for a whole week. Awesome time, tons of students. Awesome. It was great. Saw some current students that were there, some future students. So shout out to you know who you are.
But then as you served at camp, I went and served at Willowbrook bible camp down in Des Moines.
Really great camp. Close ties to Emmaus, to our roots. So it was great serving there, getting to know a lot of people, especially from Bethany Bible Chapel and cedar Falls, Waterloo. So love you guys. But then, you know, seeing where you went, a lot of the other co workers of ours went for to serve this summer. That's what we want to do. We want to serve.
[00:06:07] Speaker B: We go out there and we serve.
[00:06:08] Speaker A: We don't just go to try to build our student body, baby. We want to edify.
[00:06:15] Speaker B: Edify to the body of Christ.
[00:06:16] Speaker A: Exactly.
[00:06:16] Speaker B: And find some students along the way.
[00:06:18] Speaker A: We would love that too. Right. So if you. If you want us to come to your camp and serve, let us know. We would love to get out there. If you want to bring your camp for any events on campus, like christian, christian ministry seminar cms in February, contact us. Contact us through, you know, the YouTube channels, the podcast channels, whatever. Or even a request info online. Whatever it takes.
[00:06:41] Speaker B: Yes.
[00:06:41] Speaker A: Give us a jingle. Call us. Right. So lots of, man, we're just like a good neighborhood.
[00:06:46] Speaker B: Shane is there.
[00:06:48] Speaker A: That was so.
[00:06:49] Speaker B: It was so cheesy. Yes.
[00:06:50] Speaker A: Can we rewind on that? Man, that was bad. Don't even do it. I will ignore that phone call.
[00:06:55] Speaker B: All right. Do it.
[00:06:56] Speaker A: I'm joking.
[00:06:57] Speaker B: Can't do that.
[00:06:58] Speaker A: I know I can't.
[00:06:59] Speaker B: But we are back and it is great to be back. And it's great that campus changed a.
[00:07:03] Speaker A: Lot over the summer, has changed a.
[00:07:05] Speaker B: Lot of big projects. And now that.
[00:07:08] Speaker A: Thank you to student body's back thank you to our donors.
[00:07:10] Speaker B: Had some amazing don't and generous donors this year. And thank you guys so much for just the impact you've had on campus this summer and continuing with that, because there's some, also some projects that are upcoming that have been presented by donors. And we're just so thankful for that. And just to see, you know, every step forward is a good step forward, and we're so thankful for that.
[00:07:31] Speaker A: Yeah, we were able to update our electrical.
[00:07:34] Speaker B: Electrical grid from the original electrical grid. So now, yeah, everywhere on campus is good now.
[00:07:39] Speaker A: It's kind of like the project you have to do to do more projects. Exactly. So a great step in the right direction and looking like next summer, we might force a lot of problems with enrollment.
[00:07:50] Speaker B: Good problems with the body growing rapidly, which is a great problem to have.
[00:07:54] Speaker A: Yeah, we, we can. All we can do is pray, obviously, and continue to rely on the Lord as we. We. We always try to do.
And one of those things is that we can grow and help our campus grow in enrollment. But as well as, just, like you said, edifying the church, you know, growing the body is through athletics. So this season we have. How many soccer games? How many volleyball games do we got?
[00:08:22] Speaker B: So, yeah, so for soccer this year, we have 17 games plus post season play. So soccer, looking to continue and grow from their last year when they were six, five and three. So that should be really exciting.
[00:08:34] Speaker A: Volleyball, we got more games, too.
[00:08:35] Speaker B: More games this year than last year, which is exciting. Same with volleyball. They have 24 games this year, plus tournaments. And we're hosting the conference tournament, which is super exciting. Yeah, they're building off their record last year of ten and twelve. And then cross country, we have five meets, including one regular season meet here in Dubuque. And then we're hosting regionals for the first time ever, which is super cross country exciting for cross country. And then they go on to nationals. So, um, last year, girls team finished 9th. Haven't had a guys team until this year.
[00:09:06] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:09:07] Speaker B: And so we're super excited about that. Cause they're about to make some crazy noise.
[00:09:10] Speaker A: This year brought in a lot of. A lot of new guy runners to join our men's cross country team.
[00:09:16] Speaker B: And for cross country, you need five runners to be qualified as a team. And we haven't had that for the. For the. For the guys yet, but now we do, and it's gonna be exciting, and they're looking good.
[00:09:26] Speaker A: I was just.
[00:09:27] Speaker B: I was just, you know, studs in that mix.
[00:09:29] Speaker A: The other day, I was just talking to some parents during a freshman moving day. And it was right at the finish line of practice after, yeah, they went on a four mile run and some of those freshman guys, you know, they came running and it made our, the coach give like some second takes, some.
[00:09:48] Speaker B: Well done already, like.
[00:09:49] Speaker A: Exactly.
[00:09:50] Speaker B: Holy cow.
[00:09:51] Speaker A: Not to put pressure on anyone, and we're not trying to do that.
The main media source for Emmaus. So we don't mean to put any pressure on anyone, but we just want to highlight our athletes here.
[00:10:00] Speaker B: Yes.
[00:10:00] Speaker A: And we want to let you listen.
[00:10:02] Speaker B: Elevate them, and show you who's doing well and who we're thankful and who does the nitty gritty things that no.
[00:10:07] Speaker A: One hears about on and off the field and court, you know? So it's more than just what they. How they produce as an athlete, but how they produce as a student, as.
[00:10:16] Speaker B: A follower of Christ, as a son and daughter of God.
[00:10:20] Speaker A: Oh, thank you, pastor. So cross country looking really good. Of course, we're bringing back, you know, Kate and Anna. So they're dogs on the, on the track, so love, love what they do on the women's side. So, man, cross country is going to be great. Just like when we first added it, the most electric sport.
[00:10:42] Speaker B: Right away.
[00:10:43] Speaker A: Right away.
[00:10:43] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:10:44] Speaker A: So we're gonna bring that energy right back.
[00:10:45] Speaker B: The first race we ever had, we had, we had athletes qualify for the national tournament.
[00:10:50] Speaker A: Mm hmm.
[00:10:51] Speaker B: We've had it every year. So this is gonna happen again this year.
[00:10:53] Speaker A: We got two races in town.
[00:10:55] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:10:55] Speaker A: Which is so exciting for student bodies, for alum, for.
[00:10:58] Speaker B: You guys are in town. That really happens to. So please come out and support because it's going to be awesome to have our runners local running.
[00:11:05] Speaker A: So for our soccer game, though, we have our first game of the season today.
[00:11:08] Speaker B: I know, 130. Crazy that the season is finally here. First official game of the year. Who are we playing, Shane?
[00:11:14] Speaker A: Ccc b. And I said that correctly.
[00:11:17] Speaker B: Ccc b.
[00:11:19] Speaker A: It's so fun to say. So, central christian college of the Bible down in Missouri. So they actually had a team, Matt, in 2016. Then they gave like a four year break, unsure what happened. But then they started up again in 2021, I believe, and then stopped.
And then now this year.
[00:11:41] Speaker B: So, yeah, brand new team. Not sure what to expect. They have, they got a good roster. They have 18 guys coming in. So it should be a fun and exciting game later today.
[00:11:50] Speaker A: Only. Only three complete seasons the last eight years, so looking or two, not including this year. So for this year, looking forward to seeing what they like. You said 18 guys, 15 freshmen. Wow.
[00:12:02] Speaker B: That's a lot.
[00:12:03] Speaker A: Two sophomores and one junior.
[00:12:04] Speaker B: Okay.
[00:12:04] Speaker A: So a couple transfers and then some other places for them that they've been.
[00:12:10] Speaker B: Able to restart their soccer program because that only brings elevation to the conference.
[00:12:14] Speaker A: So. Because, yeah, we really can't tell you what to expect by CCC B.
[00:12:17] Speaker B: Guess you guys have to show up and find out.
[00:12:19] Speaker A: Exactly. So they're gonna be. There is a surprise. It's a mystery. It is really looking forward to how our team matches up. And let's. Let's tell you about our team. Our team is looking pretty good this year, not gonna lie. So brought in a lot of young players, a lot of new talent. With the talent we had last year is a great combination.
[00:12:34] Speaker B: Very much so.
[00:12:35] Speaker A: So looking forward to that and what they are able to bring to the soccer field.
[00:12:40] Speaker B: Yes. Tune in on this live stream at 130 today to watch the game and.
[00:12:46] Speaker A: On the volleyball side. Gonna be a great year.
[00:12:48] Speaker B: Yep. They don't have any games this week, so next weekend they'll. They'll have three games, same soccer with another game, and then cross country roll their first race of the year. So.
[00:12:55] Speaker A: So volleyball team, uh, how many games they got again this year?
[00:12:57] Speaker B: 24 games. And so, again, we returned everyone that was able to return and then brought in three new, uh, freshmen.
[00:13:03] Speaker A: So we're gonna be impact players.
[00:13:05] Speaker B: Yep. Impact players, which is like, I'm. I'm so excited.
[00:13:08] Speaker A: It's gonna be fun if they're there. They were a complete team last year. They're more of a complete team this year. So it's gonna be great. A great addition to our campus, to our team, and really looking forward to the volleyball team. Honestly, all these athletic teams and what they're bringing to the table, having cross country in town for two meets, having tons of home games for volleyball and soccer is going to be an awesome fall season. So if you are an alum, if you're a friend of the school, if you are a family member, come on out. Please, please do it.
[00:13:36] Speaker B: Give our homecoming weekend, but come out to all, everything that you can, because the support means a lot to us, especially to our student athletes as well.
[00:13:45] Speaker A: Follow us on our social media platform so you can keep up with the teams, see the live results, or even just the final results. We have some crazy games this year when it comes to volleyball. They're playing Judson, I know, the big, big program powerhouse. And then we're also for soccer. We are playing northwestern Northwest in Minneapolis.
[00:14:05] Speaker B: And they just won recently, the NCCAA championship. So a lot of good competition this year.
[00:14:13] Speaker A: So that's all. It shows a lot of confidence our coaches have while putting the schedule together into our team. So that should give us confidence and honestly make us support even more. Yes. So give us a follow, give us a subscription. Right?
Be active, be involved this year. Let's, let's invest in our student athletes into this program as well as Emmaus itself. Right. We have the Talon club.
[00:14:37] Speaker B: We do have the Talon club. So if you can look on our website, become a partner or a sponsor with us so you can get your season ticket pass on there as well. And it's just something that you can be a part of to help support our program and our community and our school. And it's, it's awesome.
[00:14:51] Speaker A: Yeah. A lot of, they really expanded the talent club.
[00:14:53] Speaker B: They did. Yeah. It's so when you think of talent, you're like, oh, man. Like only like large donations. No, there's like, you can go on a website, samos.edu Talon Dash club. And you can look at the different options, options that you can do. And so there's like, I think there's one for like 75 up to, like for family. Family passes and everything like that, up to a couple thousand.
[00:15:12] Speaker A: So, but like even it's like spending, you know, like around 100 or a little bit more just to get some exclusive merch.
[00:15:18] Speaker B: And that gives you, yeah, and the season pass gives you pastas to all home games for all sports and family.
[00:15:24] Speaker A: Family too. So you got those kids or even more family members to bring alongside you would be a great addition, you know, and help out. So anything else we got, man, that's pretty much it.
[00:15:35] Speaker B: That's pretty much it. Welcome back, everyone. It's so good to be back for season three of in the nest of. It's gonna be an exciting year. We are so excited.
[00:15:43] Speaker A: Like we said before, we're gonna be posting this consistently every Thursday morning at 09:00 a.m. give that notification bell a click. So you know when we're posting or you just remember and listen to whenever you want. If you're two festlers, you always are on. We're always on in your living room watching as a family. So shout out to you, festlers, we love you guys. But all you rest of the fans, all you rest of supporters, we, we are thankful for you listening and tuning into this podcast for the last two years. If you're new, welcome. Right. We're only going to get better. This is like we said to all of our visitors, everyone who's coming stepping on foot onto this campus is a great time to be it is a.
[00:16:22] Speaker B: Very great time to be an Emmaus Eagle.
[00:16:25] Speaker A: So, I mean, that's, that's our, that's our sign off right there. But I'm looking forward to this fall. It's going to be exciting. So make sure to tune into our episode. Give us a, like, follow us on our social media platform so you can keep up with everything. Emmaus Eagles. So with that said, Matt, looking forward to these games. Looking forward to CCB today for the soccer team. Hopefully we get that first dub of the season, start it out right, and we'll bring you more content next week. But be active, be involved and give us those likes and support the Eagles.
[00:16:56] Speaker B: Till next time. See you guys later.
[00:16:57] Speaker A: See ya.
