[00:00:00] Speaker A: We wake up thanking the Lord, of course, for another day of breath. But our decisions are we going know, sleep in, be late to work, are we going to wake up, be diligent, be in the word, be in prayer? And welcome back, ladies and gentlemen, to in the Nessie Mayas Athletic sports podcast. I'm your co host, Shane Douglas, here with my trusted, loyal, always next to me partner sometimes, unless we're on the road, Matthew Tomlinson. [00:00:27] Speaker B: That's true. [00:00:28] Speaker A: How's it going, Matt? [00:00:29] Speaker B: You doing well, Shane? Good to be back for another episode, Shane. [00:00:32] Speaker A: I'm just an admissions counselor and you are the assistant basketball coach. So we have a great insight to the basketball team and program here. So it's always great to sometimes, too. So today on the podcast, we're going to be talking about recapping some of. [00:00:49] Speaker B: The sports past weekend, the games from. [00:00:51] Speaker A: The past weekend, as well as the upcoming games. And then we're going to get into kind of carrying over from our conversation from last episode of involving your walk, your faith in your sport, but doing more of a discussion about someone who is on a massive platform right now. [00:01:08] Speaker B: And doing it the right way. [00:01:10] Speaker A: Doing it the right way, but specifically right now in life, like this week with Brock Purdy, the starting quarterback of the San Francisco 49 ers, who is a Christian, and he is not scared to talk about it. No, not scared to talk about what he does during the games of worshipping the Lord as well as off the field and to the press. So kind of going to be talking about that and how we can even carry that into our christian athletics on our level. But honestly, just looking at him as a study, we'll get into that and then maybe something fun later on. Right. If we have that time. [00:01:48] Speaker B: And then we got some signings to talk about. [00:01:50] Speaker A: Oh, yeah. There we go. There we go. So we'll have talked about some signings. Forgot about that. Thank you. This is why you're here, Matt. [00:01:56] Speaker B: Oh, yeah. [00:01:57] Speaker A: This is why you're here. So give us that insight. Talk about it. So let's hear what happened this weekend for Emmaus athletic sports. [00:02:04] Speaker B: Tough week for emeus basketball, both men's and women's, two games on Friday, two games on Saturday, and we finished the weekend. So unfortunately, however, I mean, both at Ozark on Friday, both played Calvert on Saturday. So girls, Ozark team is like number one team in the conference. Men's team is number two in the conference. And so our guys game a lot more. [00:02:31] Speaker A: You say Ozarks two. Ozarks two girls. [00:02:34] Speaker B: Ozarks one okay. [00:02:35] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:02:36] Speaker B: So guys, game a lot more competitive than it was the first time around at their place. We ended up losing like 93 76, but we played a lot better than we did, which is obviously it's hard to beat a team twice, but taking the little wins of. Okay, we didn't play well the first time, but we played a lot better the second time, which is encouraging. So you never know what could happen in tournament time if you end up playing a team a third time. Girls had a more rough game offensively. I mean, Ozark is just a fine old machine their girls team is. And they've been kind of smashing everyone in the season. [00:03:14] Speaker A: Has their girl program always been top or has always fluctuated throughout the years? [00:03:18] Speaker B: I would say throughout the years their team has always been like top third. [00:03:23] Speaker A: Okay. [00:03:24] Speaker B: Yeah, that's good. I can think of maybe like one year that they weren't that good, but they've always been super consistent. I mean, coach Wickland there does a really good job with the program and I think last year they had like 20 girls on the team. This year they have like eight and they're still just like really good. [00:03:43] Speaker A: That's nuts. That's wild, actually. [00:03:45] Speaker B: Unfortunate. But Saturday came around. So girls had lost to Calvary by, I think five at Calvary's place and then we had beat Calvary by four. But different story this time. Girls end up losing by five again. Dang, really close game. It was 41 36. [00:04:01] Speaker A: Where's Calvary rank within our conference? [00:04:05] Speaker B: They're lower half with us right now. Yeah, and then we ended up losing by eleven to the guys. Crazy. Both games. Crazy. I mean, Anna Harwood had an amazing game on Saturday for the girls. She had so many family members in town because it was senior day for both guys and girls. We're celebrating our eight seniors and she hit six threes, cure high, which was awesome. Yeah, but then us put decent. We finally cooled off shooting wise though, so that was unfortunate, but it was pretty crazy. Game officiating was all over the place. I think Calvary shot like 32 free throws and we shot like ten or something like that. But I mean, there's a big difference. We were telling the guys, like, when you play teams that are going into contact when they're attacking the basket and then when we shy away from contact, there's a reason why they call games differently. And so, yeah, it was just kind of know, frustrating weekend, but there's plenty of things that we did well, but there's a lot of areas that we need to improve on, especially heading into this weekend, when we go down to Manhattan and play Manhattan and Barclay tomorrow. [00:05:14] Speaker A: And Saturday, that's going to be tough. [00:05:16] Speaker B: It is. [00:05:17] Speaker A: We all know. Now give us a little update on conference and where people stand, even if it's not like the official numbers, that's fine. But for the listeners, the viewers, to family and friends of the school who are listening and wanting to know where their EMac Eagles are standing right now within conference and even the competition level with especially this. [00:05:36] Speaker B: Yeah. So guys, right now would be Manhattan one. I think it's, let's see what is. It's Manhattan one, it's Barclay two, Ozark three, central four, Calvary five, us. Oh, faith is up there. Faith is, I think, fifth. Calvary's 6th, and we're 7th. And then girls, it's Ozarks one. Faith is two. I believe Barclay is three, Central's four, Calvary's five, and we're six. [00:06:12] Speaker A: So it's going to be a really tough weekend. Yeah. [00:06:15] Speaker B: It will be. [00:06:16] Speaker A: Playing against two of the top teams in our conference on both men's and women's. [00:06:21] Speaker B: It's going to be crazy. Next ten days or next eleven days. So Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday. So, yeah, eleven days. We have five games in eleven days. [00:06:31] Speaker A: Wow. [00:06:32] Speaker B: And that finishes out the regular season and then conference tournament, regional, march Madness. [00:06:37] Speaker A: Right. It would be kind of cool if na, would you ever vote? If there is ever a vote, if there's ever a conversation about the NACA shifting from a regional to a nationals tournament style to a march madness seating. [00:06:55] Speaker B: Style, that would actually be pretty darn cool. [00:06:58] Speaker A: I would say even like on a smaller scale. [00:07:01] Speaker B: Okay, so there's like 100 and that'd be awesome. What, there was 101 or there are 101 schools or 99 schools between d one and d two in the NACA. I think there's. What is there? Currently there's just under 40 men's basketball teams. So even if you didn't like. Yeah, that would be very interesting. [00:07:24] Speaker A: I would love that. [00:07:25] Speaker B: That would be actually pretty cool. [00:07:26] Speaker A: I already watched now and again, especially during tournament play when you guys are always on the road. Yeah, we're not hosting this year, are we? [00:07:31] Speaker B: We are not hosting for next year. Conference is at faith for basketball, and then regionals is over in Michigan at grace. But next year we're hosting conference for volleyball. [00:07:41] Speaker A: For volleyball. [00:07:42] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:07:42] Speaker A: That's going to be fun. It's always fun to host having all these schools on campus, especially within conference, but even regionals, when you don't really see all these teams all the time. We got a new region, so it's going to be different because we would always have providence from Canada come on down for regionals, which would always be interesting because normally we never play them in regular season. Basketball has been lately, like, soccer and volleyball. [00:08:08] Speaker B: We haven't, no. [00:08:09] Speaker A: So that's always cool to see that. But I would put money on people. Like, more people tuning into, like, a march madness, even. [00:08:17] Speaker B: Really cool. [00:08:18] Speaker A: It's just fun. It's just fun. So you said we have around 40. [00:08:22] Speaker B: You think it's somewhere in that range? I don't remember what the actual number is, but it's around that. [00:08:28] Speaker A: See? I mean, it doesn't have to be everybody. I mean, everyone, honestly, could work, because. [00:08:32] Speaker B: Some schools, they only go to regionals based on their record, and sometimes that's an institutional thing. [00:08:40] Speaker A: What if they did something like that where there's, like, a very low requirement for you to make it to march Madness, NACA division two, but you make it, we would probably be like a 1516 seed seed, or maybe 14. [00:08:59] Speaker B: Honestly, if you had four brackets, you had ten teams in each bracket. Honestly, there's nine seed, eight seed. [00:09:06] Speaker A: Our conference is really competitive. Our region is new. [00:09:11] Speaker B: Our region is very competitive as of right now. [00:09:14] Speaker A: So who knows how we stand against all the other teams across the nation. So we could be like, a 14 seat. [00:09:20] Speaker B: I mean, those schools in the south, they're just built different. [00:09:24] Speaker A: That's true, though. [00:09:25] Speaker B: We'll get there one day. That's true. That would be interesting. [00:09:28] Speaker A: I would love that. Let's make it happen. That'd be so cool. I would love that. If you guys are all for that march madness idea, that'd be crazy. Getting rid of the regionals and the national championship kind of tournament style, and going to a massive bracket for March, we would make the brackets of, like, that would be so fun because we actually have a connection. I got no connection to all these other d one NCAA. [00:09:58] Speaker B: But you do with all these NAA. [00:10:00] Speaker A: Teams, you either know the people or you've played against them yourself, right? Other than that, I'm just a fan of Iowa or Iowa State or all the other know, down with Kansas State or not Kansas State, but Kansas. So it's like, man, but this one's like, oh, we know Manhattan. We know these guys, and it would be fun to root for them or cheer against them. [00:10:19] Speaker B: So that'd be very interesting. [00:10:22] Speaker A: You just unplugged your mic. Oh, no, you got too excited. [00:10:25] Speaker B: I got way too excited, and I unplugged it. [00:10:28] Speaker A: All right, well, speaking of some sports. Before we move on to some bigger things, we have some awesome news to announce of the Mayas athletics. I feel like we could have a better drum roll. Is there a drum roll back there? [00:10:46] Speaker B: We can throw one in, dude. [00:10:49] Speaker A: Whatever. Will, that's not a drummer. [00:10:51] Speaker B: He's actually a drummer, which is. No, we're done. Okay. [00:10:57] Speaker A: We have two new signings for you eagles. Both men's soccer. [00:11:01] Speaker B: Let's go. We had Jake, Matt joining the family, who literally and figuratively. [00:11:07] Speaker A: Literally is like on Tuesday. Yeah. So he's actually a student this semester. [00:11:12] Speaker B: Yeah, he came at semester, actually transferred semester, joining his twin brother Josh, who's also on the team, which. It's going to be fun watching Jake and Josh, the Matt attack next year. [00:11:21] Speaker A: It's like Drake and Josh. It is. [00:11:23] Speaker B: But Jake and Josh, that was Tuesday. Super exciting. He's a high level player that brings some incredible talent to our team, but also just a super humble guy that loves the lord. And that is what is most important. [00:11:38] Speaker A: It's been really cool to see him. [00:11:39] Speaker B: He just happens to be amazing at soccer. [00:11:42] Speaker A: He hit the ground running here, man. Literally, I was expecting him to be maybe a little not shy or timid, but more like reserved. [00:11:50] Speaker B: Coming in at semester is hard with friendships already made the first because that's like Rachel came in at semester. It's hard, but it's doable. [00:11:57] Speaker A: Your wife, Rachel, they don't know Rachel, so you got to let them. [00:12:00] Speaker B: Former women's third all time three point shooter. Oh, wow. Literally, he's hit the ground running and he's fit right under with all the. [00:12:09] Speaker A: Guys because normally you'd like step back or sit back and observe and be like, oh, but this guy was. Jake went straight into it and I saw him talking to everybody, like being involved in intermurrals, which is really cool. Other student government events or student union events and other stuff. And then there's open dorms here that they have every Wednesday, but they switch men's to girls, four for like 2 hours every other Wednesday. And he was like leading activities and events there. It's like already super involved. So love what he's already brought. Thankful here and what he's going to bring on the field, too. [00:12:47] Speaker B: It's going to be awesome. And then keep an eye out for later today. We have another signing going up. [00:12:52] Speaker A: Can't talk about it. [00:12:53] Speaker B: The return, though. Can you talk about the return on our social media for that post? [00:13:00] Speaker A: We have really, Jake, you can kind of plug mean. He does have like specific wants or desires to be on where he wants to be on the field. But honestly, you could put him pretty much anywhere on our team and he'll. [00:13:16] Speaker B: Be the best player in that position, hopefully. [00:13:19] Speaker A: Essentially, yeah. But then adding the one today, one. [00:13:24] Speaker B: Today, and there's a number of positions, there's a number of other ones coming out soon. So keep an eye out on all our social medias for this role of signings that are literally, can we say. [00:13:35] Speaker A: His position, the one that we're defender. Okay, there we go. All right, so we got another defender. So honestly, our defense is looking really good right now. So a lot of expectations on you guys. [00:13:45] Speaker B: We're so excited. [00:13:46] Speaker A: Just joking. We just want you guys to have fun and to honor the Lord on the field. And that's a perfect transition to what we're kind of talking about, like a little carrying on of our conversation last episode. And if you don't know what we talked about, tune in last week to last week's episode. Listen to our conversation about being a Christian on the field and what it looks like. And we kind of had some examples of here at Emmaus, your identity. A couple, I think that was like three episodes ago or two episodes ago. [00:14:16] Speaker B: But it's been a good stretch. [00:14:17] Speaker A: Yeah. But like we said in the early announcements, or not announcements, I guess, of this episode of Brock Purdy, the man is on a stage right now. The whole world is looking at him. [00:14:28] Speaker B: Literally the whole Taylor swift watching him. [00:14:30] Speaker A: Will be watching him. It's funny. Oh, shoot. I freaking talked about her. Dang it. It was going to be a zero again. [00:14:39] Speaker B: So literally everyone is watching him and this game because of the platform and the extra platform with her being there and then just him being Mr. Irrelevant, leading a team in his second year to the Super bowl, led them to the NFC championship last year. But, man, like, it's just so early in the game. So refreshing to see he is just keeping Jesus and God at the center of everything. Last episode, we talked about him and CJ Stroud, but literally every time someone from the media asks him a question, I mean, it is just like scripture just pouring out of him and it's just like, it's awesome. [00:15:21] Speaker A: No, it is really cool. And to have that platform, to have that stage, it's another thing to just be a professional athlete and be a Christian, which is like, not taken away from that. [00:15:30] Speaker B: Right. [00:15:30] Speaker A: Like, not taking away from CJ Stroud and all the comments that he said to the media this past season, his first season in the NFL. Because the thing is, we didn't hear anything much about him in college, unless you really followed him, unless you were like a huge CJ Stroud fan or Ohio State fan, you might have not have heard anything from him talking about Jesus. Right. But then once we hits the NFL, that media, the market just puts you. [00:15:53] Speaker B: On a whole nother stage and you. [00:15:55] Speaker A: Hear more about it. You hear more about. Right. But, so I'm not taking away from Caesar Strat, all these other believers, true believers who are in the NFL, right. [00:16:03] Speaker B: That are doing it the right way. [00:16:05] Speaker A: But Brock Purdy is at probably one of the biggest sporting events in the world that we know other than I. [00:16:15] Speaker B: Literally read that the Las Vegas airport is expecting over 1000 private jets of people coming in. [00:16:22] Speaker A: Las Vegas is one of two cheapest places to fly in the whole United States. So I mean, the flight tickets aren't. [00:16:29] Speaker B: Going to be too much, but people are coming from all over the place. And I think this is a good reminder, this is even a good self evaluation for us, for you guys out there. Know, Brock is doing such a phenomenal job with his platform and it's like, okay, like, oh yeah, that would be me. Yeah, I would definitely do know. Would it really? If you or I were in that position where we're playing in the Super bowl, the whole world is literally watching us. We're in the most important position in the game. Would we be as outspoken about the Lord and how he's given us that platform as he is? I would hope and pray so pray that we would. But I think that's a really good thing to look inward and be like, would I do that as well as. [00:17:12] Speaker A: He is, to take it a step further? And I love the direction you just took that to take it a step forward. [00:17:16] Speaker B: Of course. [00:17:17] Speaker A: Yeah. We would all be like, of course. Yeah. [00:17:19] Speaker B: But when it happens. [00:17:20] Speaker A: But we can even ask ourselves, are we doing that? [00:17:23] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:17:23] Speaker A: Like we are blessed to be here at Emmaus, working here at Emmaus Bible College around a lot of believers, around a lot of people who can mentor. [00:17:29] Speaker B: Where we can talk about stuff. [00:17:30] Speaker A: Yeah. And we can talk about our faith, our religion. Literally take an hour of our day to come on a show, talk about something that we love in know mixture with Emmaus as well as Christianity and our Lord and savior Jesus. Awesome opportunity we have. Right. But a lot of our listeners, a lot of you guys work in the secular work field, you guys are working. [00:17:51] Speaker B: In a public school work. Yeah, everywhere, whatever it may be. [00:17:55] Speaker A: Are we like, we see Brock Purdy, we see shadow. We use these two because they're two young quarterbacks of the NFL who have a lot of media attention on them, especially purdy right now. But there's so many other athletes, and they use that stage in front of the entire world to talk about Jesus. What are we doing with our stage? Just because we're not professional athletes doesn't mean we can't talk about Jesus. Or doesn't mean we don't have a stage. [00:18:20] Speaker B: No, because you have a. No matter what you're doing, anywhere you are, it doesn't matter. Like, someone's always watching. [00:18:26] Speaker A: Oh, yeah. [00:18:27] Speaker B: It's just in this instance, for them, there's millions upon millions of people watching. But yes, what are we doing in our own personal lives? Whether it's at work, at church, at home, are we doing these same things or are we only doing them when we are perceived a certain way? [00:18:44] Speaker A: We have tons of alum who work in hospitals, as nurses or other positions. And what are you using in that platform? Tons of alum that are teachers in public school, even private school. I mean, the thing is, we know students who have came through Emmaus. When they entered, they weren't saved. Right. Maybe they thought they were. Most of the time, they didn't fully. [00:19:05] Speaker B: Understand what the true meaning of the gospel is. [00:19:08] Speaker A: Yeah. Just because you're around a christian community doesn't mean that you are saved. And that's what we, you know, that's, I think, the couple for our students. [00:19:15] Speaker B: Yeah. It's taking that moment of, okay, this is my parents faith and making it my own. I think that's where a lot of that time, it's like, no, it's still their faith. And it's like, no, wait a minute, this is my faith. And that's when. Praise the Lord for that. [00:19:27] Speaker A: But yes, like a couple of episodes. Yeah, exactly. When we talked about identity and what identity looks like, and a lot of times people who are raised in christian homes grow up and their identity is absorbed because you know the right things to say. [00:19:40] Speaker B: You just don't necessarily follow what you're saying. [00:19:43] Speaker A: Their relationship with Jesus is not their own. It's their parents. And they just fall under the umbrella. But when they leave the umbrella, when they leave the household and go out into the world, they get rained on. Yeah. They don't have a foundation. They don't know really what to stand on, what they believe. And that's where we see the example. [00:20:02] Speaker B: When they get here, classes and everything, it's like, well, not even that, but. [00:20:06] Speaker A: If they go to a public university or something else and they don't really know the gospel, because they were absorbed. [00:20:14] Speaker B: Or you go this way, closer or further from Jesus. [00:20:18] Speaker A: Yeah. So identity is huge in someone's walk, obviously. But we see that with students that do come to Emmaus. But looking at it in another way of young christians, young people, young kids who are raised in a christian home, who don't go to a christian university, christian college, and they don't have that foundation, they don't have that umbrella anymore, and they're off on their own. They don't know what they believe, and then they walk away from the Lord. And we see those examples all the time. Yeah. [00:20:44] Speaker B: We even see, because obviously Emmaus is here to grow and to teach christians. So we're not missionary recruit, we're not bringing in non believers to save them. We're bringing in christians to further their training. But, yeah, that's what we're talking about. Sometimes they come in like, oh, yeah, I know that Jesus died on the cross for my sins, but I haven't. Oh, why haven't I believed that yet? And then that's when they get here and they do that and it's, know, praise the Lord when that happens, but also, you know, praise the know, there's, their faith is already as strong as it is, and it gets even stronger in the sense Brock Purdy being at Iowa State and then going to the NFL and just know he's just exploding everything when it comes to the Lord. And so cool. [00:21:33] Speaker A: Yeah, and that's the thing. It's like Brad Purdy's on that platform. And why we're really wanting talking about him other than other christian athletes are out there is he has this amazing opportunity to use the Super bowl. Like I said earlier, one of the greatest, one of the biggest, most popular sporting events in the entire world outside of FIFA. But the thing is, this happens every year while FIFA World cup, or even like Champions League happens, or Champions League every year, but World cup. But him using this stage to advance the kingdom, to glorify the Lord. And honestly for him, you hear from a lot of athletes and this is the thing. And I think you see this in every sport realm, no matter what level is post game interview, you're like, oh. [00:22:26] Speaker B: I could have done this. [00:22:28] Speaker A: How do you feel after that win? And then they respond, all glory to the Lord. And then I did this. This. [00:22:35] Speaker B: Thank you, God. Oh, yeah, I had this throat because I was looking this thing and then I just took the team on my back. [00:22:40] Speaker A: Exactly. That's a great impression. You're made up. I know, but yeah, I mean, a lot of times it is a little. You can't really, I'm not trying to take away from those players, right. Those people, because they legit could have, they could have a legitimate relationship with Jesus, and we can't speak more on that. But to see what these other believers in the NFL, in the sports, they go further than that. They go further than just honoring the Lord at like a post game. Like I printed off in interviews, like. [00:23:09] Speaker B: I printed off what he said after the NFC championship when they were down by what, 17 against the Lions and came back and won, this is what I said or what I wrote down from what Sportswack and what talked about. But he says later that the press conference after the game, Purdy was asked about his personal journey, got him ready for not only this game, but the second half particular when they came back and he was quick to say, to give God the credit, he said, honestly, I think it's just a testament to God and where he's taken me in life, Purdy said. I've never been the biggest, the fastest, the strongest or any of that. I feel like I've always had a sort of fight of what I get and work for what I get, but God's always given me the opportunity, whether it was in high school, college, Iowa State, and then obviously in the NFL getting drafted last, people overlook you and all that kind of stuff. And then all you need is an opportunity to watch and see what he does. I put my faith and trust in him and he's gotten me to where I'm at, and I think that's just so cool, like coming from where he was to where the Lord has replaced him, because later he went on to say, so when I'm down 17 and a half, honestly, I'm just thinking, all right, God, you've taken me here, and win or lose, I'm going to glorify you. And that's my peace and that's the joy, that's the steadfastness, and that's where I get it from, and that's the honest truth. So I leaned into that and sure enough, we were able to come back and win that game and go to the Super Bowl. [00:24:35] Speaker A: Sports Spectrum did an awesome interview with Brock Purdy about a 20 minutes ago. [00:24:41] Speaker B: February of 2023, last February, which is really awesome. [00:24:45] Speaker A: And that's where we're getting some of our content from. So we definitely encourage you guys to look that podcast up, listen to. They also had the opportunity to go to the media day at the Super bowl. So usually the week before the Super Bowl a lot of media, there's pretty much an entire day where the media just asks these players got famous for Marshall lynch. I'm just here so I'm not to. [00:25:09] Speaker B: Get so, but Jason Romano who's the main guy of sports spectrum, which he does a phenomenal job out there, he actually has two jerseys but yeah, they were there and they were just talking to a lot of players out there just on their testimonies and their stories of how the Lord has used football especially in their lives to get them. [00:25:30] Speaker A: To where they're at, glorify them through it. During media day, one of the things that he asked Brock Purdy a simple question of where do you find time to worship the Lord or what have you been reading this year? And Brock Purdy goes about, about how he's been studying and reading psalm 23 a lot. And something that I found really interesting, what he was saying was that it's very easy to get caught up in his lifestyle, especially on the stage that he's know of course being about the, and it's, I'm going to be very interested to see where Brock pretty goes in his career. Right. And we were always given a lot of trials in life and things. And honestly this fame, the stage he's at can be a trial is a trial because you think about he's going to be offered the world especially come Sunday if he wins the Super bowl. [00:26:24] Speaker B: Beats, I mean Patrick Mahomes is going to come after him either in a. [00:26:29] Speaker A: Good way or a bad both, especially if he praises Jesus. The media will brush that aside. The world's going to come after him a little bit about that. But also he will be offered the keys. He'll be offered the keys to the kingdom, the world. A lot of what Satan was offering Jesus during the 40 days, obviously not to that extent, but to a way of Brock Purdy is going to have a choice which way is he going to go. And the thing is we're offered this every day, not on the stage that is similar to Brock Purdy, but in the stage of our everyday life, even small choices. And this doesn't have to be something that kind of takes us away from Jesus and has us walk away and renounce the faith, but something of just simple self discipline, obedience in the Lord and our decisions every day like when we wake up thanking the Lord of course for another day of breath, but our decisions are we going to sleep in, be late to work, are we going to wake up, be diligent, be in the word, be in prayer, right. Something super small or even deciding how to react to a situation. There's a lot of paths that you can take. You can ignore it, you can react by attacking or even just like another situation where you could just bring in a brother, talk to them. Sit down. But what are we doing in our everyday life with our little trials? Yes, Purdy's going to be given a big trial here. Right? And like I said, it's going to be really interesting to see where he goes further after all this. But at the same time, it's super encouraging to see, to have another brother, a brother in Christ on this stage and what he can do for the. [00:28:14] Speaker B: Lord here and how he's just elevating. [00:28:17] Speaker A: Like, if you think about, like, we already talked about her, but Taylor Swift will be there. That's just like one megastar that would be at the Super bowl, right along with a bunch of other celebrities, a bunch of other famous people. [00:28:30] Speaker B: And who knows? Like, say he wins and they hand him the Super bowl trophy instead of. [00:28:34] Speaker A: Saying, going to Disney World. He's like, I want to read the Bible. [00:28:36] Speaker B: Yeah, I'm going to read the Bible. Like, thank you, Jesus, for giving me this platform and all. Glory to, like, you never know. [00:28:42] Speaker A: So many seeds. [00:28:43] Speaker B: People hear that all the time. But at one point, does it click? I'm sure that for some people it will click. This happens on Sunday. [00:28:53] Speaker A: Another good example is, you know, the man didn't really live a life that was fulfilling to the Lord in his NFL career, but he ended up finding the Lord after, towards the end, actually towards the end of his career, I think. And he turned his whole life around. And I believe there's a podcast, sports, with Ben Roethlisberger, too. But he completely changed his life around. [00:29:19] Speaker B: Just so cool seeing where he came from, all those issues, all those things, and then how he's finishing the race. [00:29:26] Speaker A: Literally finishing the race. And that's huge. We're still in the middle of the race. And so purdy, and we were not trying to praise him or anything on the podcast, but just using him as a good example of someone doing it the right way. Yeah. [00:29:40] Speaker B: And how can we take and learn from what he's doing the right way and how can we apply that to what we're doing, like you said, in our everyday lives? Because the three of us in this room aren't going to have an opportunity to be in a Super bowl. [00:29:52] Speaker A: Definitely not will. [00:29:53] Speaker B: Definitely not will Brock Purdy. How can we elevate Jesus and the Lord in every aspect of the opportunities that we get? [00:30:04] Speaker A: Yeah, and to know there are trials that we're going to be facing every day and deciding what path to take. And it's not just always one or the other, it's multiple. And choosing the right path that's going to be honoring and glorifying to the Lord. And that's something know, circling all the way back to Emmaus sports. That's something I'm encouraged by a lot of our athletes here. [00:30:25] Speaker B: We're not of only one person's been perfect. [00:30:28] Speaker A: It's true. That was Nick Farley. So I'm joking. That was a joke. Shout out Nick Fairley. But we're not perfect. One of our players suplexed the other player like one of our own teammates. [00:30:39] Speaker B: On the years ago. Years ago. [00:30:42] Speaker A: Is that a soft subject? But no, that's the thing is, we're not perfect here at Emus, and we're not trying to say that we're perfect, but something that we are encouraged by being in the known, in the mix is seeing how our athletes today, a lot of them are responding good ways on and off the court, ways that they're really focusing on honoring and glorifying the Lord in their actions and how they play and especially what they say, right? [00:31:06] Speaker B: Because obviously you hear and you say, okay, you glorify God when you win. But it really comes down to, what are you saying? Are you still glorifying him when you're having a season like this, when you're losing game after game after game, are you still giving him the glory that he deserves, that you should be giving him, whether you win or whether you lose? Yeah, and I think that has been losing stinks, but that has been an encouragement of still relying on him and still giving him the glory. Like, yes, Lord, this stinks. This stinks. We're losing. We want to get better, but at the end of the day, it's not a pity party or anything like that. But sometimes it is. But you still have the same platform whether you win or lose. Some people just listen more. Some people listen more when you win, but some people, like eyes are looking more when you lose. And so keeping what you do the same regardless of what the outcome is so important. [00:32:02] Speaker A: And it's going to be really cool. And honestly, just encouragement to everyone who's listening to. Take this as an example, take this as an encouragement, a conviction of really look at yourself, self reflection of how when you see a Christian, when you see someone glorifying the Lord on national television or through an article, whatever it may be, in the public spotlight, think about yourself, what am I doing in. [00:32:28] Speaker B: My men's Monday night city league? Am I glorifying the Lord through that? Or am I not just playing basketball? [00:32:35] Speaker A: Whatever it is. So think about yourself. [00:32:37] Speaker B: So many relatable things. [00:32:38] Speaker A: Think about how you go throughout your day, where you go to work, who you interact with, how you interact with them. Exactly. And how can we use these athletes, these professional athletes as examples and convictions for us in our life? Because we're not just looking at them, putting it, we don't want to put them on a pedestal and be like, you're doing a good job, keep it up. [00:32:58] Speaker B: If you put a person on a pedestal, you get disappointed. [00:33:01] Speaker A: Exactly. [00:33:01] Speaker B: You have to keep the Lord Jesus right on that. [00:33:04] Speaker A: But the thing is, we're in a spotlight as well. We're as much as in a spotlight as someone like Brock Purdy. And that spotlight is just a different environment. Different environment. But the spotlight is the Lord looking upon us and seeing what we do, how we're responding, all these situations. And it's going to be cool. And I love to see where RMA's athletes respond in these situations. It's going to be cool with the conference play finishing up within the next eleven days, like you said, and going into the tournament time, which is going to be really crazy, going to be intense in some situation, that's for sure. On the floor. So encouragement to you, Emmaus, athletes that are listening to know, remember what Jesus done for you, remember the death and resurrection and honor it, honor the Lord on the field, on the court, no matter where you're at, and take it beyond that. Take it beyond. So we just want to thank everyone again for listening, making us part of your Thursday morning or even just whenever. [00:34:04] Speaker B: Else you listen to us. [00:34:05] Speaker A: Family time. [00:34:06] Speaker B: We appreciate all the great feedback on how we can do things better or just encouragement for us. And so it means a lot to us. It really does. [00:34:12] Speaker A: We encourage you to not really a sponsor, but to really look at sports spectrum as a good christian platform to. [00:34:20] Speaker B: Amazing, amazing stuff that they have to. [00:34:22] Speaker A: See other christian athletes or even christians who are in the spotlight, the national spotlight and hear their examples and their convictions and use that into your life. So check out what we mentioned earlier, the Brock Purdy interview interview on their. [00:34:38] Speaker B: YouTube page or on their website too. [00:34:40] Speaker A: But also listen to our own podcast of concerning him. [00:34:43] Speaker B: Just finished a great series on why you should homeschool, why you should christian school and why you should public school. The one that came out yesterday was the one on public school. So really great series on that. Yeah, a lot of really great stuff from concerning him podcast wise, the blog wise, a lot of stuff coming out our podcast. Keep an eye out for stuff in the future. [00:35:02] Speaker A: And we're always open to some ideas, or at least, you know, especially within our realm of it'll go in and out. [00:35:10] Speaker B: No, I'm just kidding. [00:35:10] Speaker A: But for you, maybe not for no kidding comment, subscribe. Like, follow us on Instagram, Twitter, everything above, and be on the lookout for the announcement later on Thursday. Or if you don't know what it is, if you didn't look at our Instagram, look at our social media pages and find out about those signings some more. But we just want to, again, thank you guys for making us a part of your day, for listening, and we appreciate you and everything that you guys do. But go out, seek the know, be a testimony to him on your platform of where the Lord has placed you. [00:35:44] Speaker B: Matt, it's a great day to be an eagle. Or later today, it's a great day to see who became an eagle. [00:35:49] Speaker A: There we go. Thank you, guys. Have a great night. Or day. Lou.
