[00:00:00] Speaker A: We got all three mats. [00:00:01] Speaker B: The mat trick. [00:00:02] Speaker A: The mat trick. [00:00:03] Speaker B: The mat trick. First time in Emmaus we've ever had on our intercollegiate squad. [00:00:08] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:00:09] Speaker B: We've had three siblings play at the same time. [00:00:11] Speaker A: They even all started. And welcome back to the official Emmaus athletic podcast in the nest. I'm your co host, Shane Douglas, here with Matthew Tomlinson, my main man. How you doing today, buddy? [00:00:23] Speaker B: Good, Shane. How are you? [00:00:24] Speaker A: I'm good. It's hard for me to do that. I gotta reach around my mic. [00:00:28] Speaker B: You gotta hug the mic. [00:00:29] Speaker A: That's tough. That's tough. It's good to be here again. Loved it. We had a great episode last week with Kevin Ron. So love to have him on a show. Huge fan. But that's the thing is a lot of the parents, especially the sophomores and the freshmen, a lot of love from, from the family, the supporters right there. So shout out to all you parents out there. We appreciate it, especially the juniors and seniors. We. I mean, of course, of course, of course. But, uh, we. We definitely see that. That increase in fan support. [00:01:01] Speaker B: Yes. [00:01:02] Speaker A: So love it. So thank you guys for watching us. Thank you for making us a part of your daily routine and your day. We appreciate the love, the support, the comments, the gift cards, a little bit. [00:01:14] Speaker B: Later today than normal, but yes, Wednesday games kind of throw. Throw us off a little bit. So this is our last Wednesday game of the year of the school year of the sports year, so should be back to normal. [00:01:28] Speaker A: We had a late, so late game Tuesday this week, the soccer match and then volleyball. Played a game last night, late last night. So that is a reason why we haven't posted at 09:00 a.m. i know some of you might be just screaming and. And just. [00:01:42] Speaker B: We messed your day up. [00:01:43] Speaker A: Oh, yeah. Like, they. Their morning routine. We were told that there's a student that, like, we're a part of their morning routine when they're getting ready here in Emmaus. Like in, like, either if they're, like, in the restroom or brushing their teeth, whatever they're doing. You know, we hear students tell us that they walk into the restroom or down the dorm hall. They hear Matt and Shane, and this isn't just on the guys halls, but the girls. And we're like, why is Matt and Shane here? Like, no, they were just a nest. We're just part of the routine. So, thank you. We're making us part of your routine and that we can bring you guys good content, good news, not the gospel, actually, sometimes. Yeah. [00:02:22] Speaker B: But, yeah, sometimes we bring good sports news. Sometimes we don't bring good sports news. [00:02:27] Speaker A: It's been good. It's still a little hot out. We're not weathermen, but we do talk about the weather. It's gonna get so cool. It's pumpkin spice season. I'm mentioning every episode. It's our new Taylor switch and go. [00:02:38] Speaker B: From hawaiian shirts to flannel shirts. [00:02:41] Speaker A: This is kind of hawaiian. You're right. I like it. [00:02:44] Speaker B: Super surprised that you've worn a hawaiian shirt on this before. I have. I'm kind of disappointed. [00:02:47] Speaker A: This is my second time wearing this. [00:02:48] Speaker B: I'm disappointed in myself. [00:02:50] Speaker A: Yeah, you're the hawaiian shirt guy. Your dad especially is so. But we're looking forward to this upcoming weekend of matches. We're going to get into that. But before we do that, our record for the season so far with. For our Emmaus women's volleyball team. [00:03:06] Speaker B: Five and four. [00:03:07] Speaker A: Five and four. And for soccer, three, two and one. [00:03:11] Speaker B: Penguins. [00:03:14] Speaker A: Penguins. [00:03:14] Speaker B: An old veggie tale show. [00:03:15] Speaker A: I don't watch veggies, but, yeah, five and four for. And then across. Team is undefeated, too. [00:03:20] Speaker B: They are undefeated. And then three, two, one. And then finally we'll talk about later, but the guys finally get to run a real race this week. [00:03:28] Speaker A: Yes. Looking forward to that. It's gonna be really good one. And it's been good. It's been a good season so far for the Eagles. Really exciting for fall sports, which is awesome. Hopefully that momentum carries into this, the winter sports. That's on you, buddy. But no pressure. No pressure at all. Really, really look forward to. It's been, it's been great. Volleyball team has had a lot of tough matches. Lots of tough. But designed, as I talked about, coach Hannah. [00:03:53] Speaker B: Yep. [00:03:53] Speaker A: Designed in a season to really push our, our women's team forward and give them that confidence, give them that motivation, the maturity that they can bring the team together. [00:04:06] Speaker B: The best of the best. [00:04:07] Speaker A: So they're ready for conference. So they're ready for especially regionals this year, which we're excited to get into just about a month out of that. Ooh, a month away. Here we go, will. Let's go. Same thing for soccer. Soccer is going to be entering a more of a conference play in their schedule coming up. So really close, really tight games coming up. [00:04:28] Speaker B: This is where the fun starts. [00:04:29] Speaker A: Conference. I mean, we can talk about conference for a little bit here. The. For soccer. For the men's soccer team, the conference. It's kind of question. A lot of questions marks, since we haven't competed against everyone. [00:04:43] Speaker B: Yeah. There's not like usually there's always like the team and then everyone else. This year it's like there's what, there's six teams and there's like it's anyone really. [00:04:55] Speaker A: And we can get more into the conference play and what, there's new rules this year for it. But there is one team that really stands out this year and it's Barclay. We have yet played them, we play them in a couple weeks. So that's going to be a very interesting matchup. But besides that, we've only played two team on a neutral site. We've, we don't. We can't drive all the way to, you know, have one. Kansas, eight and a half hours, middle of nowhere. But I mean, they, they. It's a good school. Still, with that said, we've only played, um. We've only had two matches against two conference teams. That is faith Baptist Bible College, the Eagles. This is last Tuesday. And then, uh, CCCB, which was first. [00:05:32] Speaker B: Game of the year. [00:05:33] Speaker A: First game of the year, which. They're going to be scary if they make it, to make it into conference play because as we said, that confidence growing, new team, young team, 15 freshmen. So that's encouraging to see their, their program grow and if they can retain those players next year. Faith, really tough team. [00:05:52] Speaker B: Reigning conference chance that we talked about. [00:05:54] Speaker A: So talking about that matchup, really tough. We did walk away with a one to nil goal. [00:06:01] Speaker B: Let's go. [00:06:01] Speaker A: Or victory, I should say. Awesome. With three. Around three and the 87th minute of the match. [00:06:08] Speaker B: Yes. [00:06:08] Speaker A: JD Miller heads the ball in off of cross from Edwin Ventura. [00:06:14] Speaker B: So that was first career goal. [00:06:17] Speaker A: That was epic. Freshman JD Miller. So shout out, JD Miller. There it is. I saw will moving to the eagle either way. And Austin and off the bench. [00:06:26] Speaker B: I know. Shout out to him too, because he's been starting the first three games of three, four games of the year. [00:06:31] Speaker A: Yep. [00:06:32] Speaker B: Got moved to the bench. Cause we needed some more talent coming off the bench. [00:06:35] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:06:36] Speaker B: Subbed in, works his butt off like he does every single day and got the game winning goal against conference rival. Huge. [00:06:44] Speaker A: And you said, you said to yourself earlier when we were in our pre game talk, pre podcast talk is that we had around. We've had around 15. [00:06:51] Speaker B: Yeah, I think we've had of our. We've had of our 21 guys. We've had 15 or 16 different starters so far this year. [00:06:58] Speaker A: And that's nothing. Including a couple late additions to the lineup to our team. So we have Louie Matt and we have song Maung, who have just started playing for our team. [00:07:09] Speaker B: Got cleared. [00:07:09] Speaker A: Yeah, got cleared and everything. Had some physical. The physical holding them back as well as medical forms. Medical forms as well as just division rules of when they can play. So now they're able to play. They're in the lineup. They looked good. [00:07:29] Speaker B: They looked good. [00:07:31] Speaker A: Goodness. If you're alum, if you're a fan, someone who follows our school and loves our soccer program, my goodness. Like, watch the film against faith this last Tuesday, and if you don't want to. Yeah. Dang, it wasn't live sucks. If you can't watch that, look forward to the next match this weekend against. [00:07:52] Speaker B: Or come to alumni weekend and watch them play Kuiper and see them live next weekend. [00:07:59] Speaker A: We should talk about that homecoming weekend. Next weekend. Shout out. Well, of course, we'll. We'll, you know, talk about this, man. [00:08:05] Speaker B: Yeah, at the end of the song. And Louie, they look great, and we're. [00:08:09] Speaker A: Hyping them up, of course, because they're the new. They're the new guys. [00:08:12] Speaker B: Shiny objects on the block. [00:08:13] Speaker A: But, man, song, he played winger. Yeah, he played in the left wing second half, and he looked good. He was. He was. He looked so good. And then he would go into the middle, play with, work with Jake a little bit, but Faith had a great defense. Faith was really doing well and, and pressing and stepping to our, our forwards when they had the ball, so it was super tough to get the ball around them. We had a lot of shots on goal, but no really clean or good looks. A couple here and there. Ed or Carlos had a good look on the left side in the second half. Kicked it right to the goalie. I mean, sorry, Carlos, but it was a left. It was a left, left shot, but. [00:08:57] Speaker B: We had a couple of good looks that got skied. But, I mean, I think we had 14 shots, and eight of them were on goal. And so getting those looks, which has been encouraging, but, you know, it came down to the wire to get that one to connect. [00:09:10] Speaker A: It was tough. It was definitely tough, but it was really cool to see an offense for our, our men's team with really a lot of lineup changes, starter changes, and scheme changes within the last couple of weeks, especially playing against tougher opponents when it comes to ripping and northwestern, so. And Spurgeon, even Spurgeon, they were a. [00:09:33] Speaker B: Super physical team, and I think it's just so encouraging. Like, you know, like you said, like, our offense is picking up, but, man, like, obviously, we've had some, some lineup changes, especially on the defensive side, which you can go into detail about, but, like, man, our defense. We have an amazing defense. [00:09:48] Speaker A: You can put anyone back down. [00:09:49] Speaker B: That's. Cause that's Tucker's second shut out of the year. But, like, faith is a very good offensive team. They're good and we shut them out. And I think first half, first half, they possessed a fair amount, but second half, I mean, we just took control of the game and they had some. Our defense has been locking up, which has been awesome to see. [00:10:05] Speaker A: They've had some really. Faith had a lot of scary counter attacks the other night, but we were. [00:10:11] Speaker B: Like, we were like this close from them equalizing it. [00:10:14] Speaker A: But having Tucker, Tucker back there in that with a strong back line gives you more confidence. And there's, like we said, there's been some changes and they are original backline in the start of the season. Two of the starters are now coming off the bench, wanting some more depth to come in when, you know, either the opposing team is tired or also dealing with some of them having injuries. Caleb Hunter, he has an injury. All region Caleb Hunter, all region player coming off the bench, really sad and tough. It's like, why? But he has an injury. So if you're, if you've questioned this, he's had an injury from last season that has carried through the offseason into now with his hip, which we would rather a healthy Caleb Hunter going into conference. [00:10:59] Speaker B: Yes. [00:10:59] Speaker A: Going into next season as well. So we can still use him, play him this year. And knowing that when he goes on that field, he's a Bill Belichick player. He's the person who's going to, wherever you put him, he's going to get the job done. [00:11:11] Speaker B: Zero to 100 and it stays at 100 the entire time he's in there. [00:11:15] Speaker A: Love him. He's just, he's a trained, just nonstop, 100% go. JD, of course, coming off the, coming off the bench, a very skillful freshman that we have this year. [00:11:26] Speaker B: Even seen JD, like, you know, he started in the back line and now he's playing winger, winger. [00:11:33] Speaker A: He has good control of the ball, so you can put him anywhere. [00:11:36] Speaker B: And that's the thing. Like, we have a lot of very good players that can play multiple, multiple positions and that is huge. Like, when you have a team of, like, good players, but, like, they can only play here or only play there, but this team is full of good dudes that are great at soccer that can play anywhere on the field. [00:11:54] Speaker A: This is true. [00:11:55] Speaker B: And that's what a luxury to have. [00:11:56] Speaker A: And speaking, speaking to that Bennett Kreiner, one of our midfielders, a true winger in high school who has good control of the ball, good vision, someone you would want to see in the midfield has been moved to be a center back. And part of that reason is to try to build, have a. Create an offense, build from the back if given the option, given the possibility. But knowing Bennett Kreiner is just a talented player, you can put him anywhere. [00:12:22] Speaker B: Especially with his foot control and his foot power, like, yeah, so he's still. [00:12:25] Speaker A: Getting used to that position and he will. Cause he's a talented player and we said you can put him anywhere and he'll succeed. Coach might even move him to a forward position, who knows? But we just gotta trust the process. Coach knows what he's doing, he's preparing for the future. Josh, Matt, senior captain, Canada last year. Hopefully we can bring a banner of some sort while he's here this year, if that's conference reasonables, whatever that may be. We want to give it all that we got right, and we only got this year. We don't know what we have next year. We know what we got this year. So let's take advantage. Let's attack. Exactly. So knowing that he's leaving, he's usually a RCDM or holding midfielder. So knowing he's leaving, maybe that's a position Bennett can transition to next year. Someone who's still in the midfield, beginning some defensive experience this year and knowing that we can really just swap players in and out of a lot of different positions because they're so useful everywhere. [00:13:27] Speaker B: Which I can really throw off a scheme for the other team because if they're used to, you know, Bennett playing midfield and all of a sudden he's playing, you know, in the back and they're like, oh, what do you do now? Or vice versa if he switches back and it's like, oh, now we gotta worry about him because he's so good here and there and so. [00:13:40] Speaker A: So gotta trust it, gotta understand, like, of course everyone wants to win, we wanna compete, we wanna be competitive. So there's not gonna be any dumb decisions, hopefully, yeah. But real, really looking forward to this season. We got all three mats, the mat trick, the Matt trick. [00:14:00] Speaker B: Matt trick. First time in Emmaus that we've ever had on our intercollegiate squad. [00:14:06] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:14:06] Speaker B: That we've had three siblings play at the same time. [00:14:09] Speaker A: They even all started, which is awesome. And Louie looked really good. [00:14:13] Speaker B: I mean, he ripped that first shot off his left foot. Oh, that thing had some juice to it. Like, he has a powerful boot. [00:14:21] Speaker A: Just watch. Watching Louis play, he really stands out as a player with a lot of skill, but he also plays strong. He's physical, but also he's got scared. He's got a smile on his face while he's doing it. So it's funny. [00:14:35] Speaker B: He's always, he's smiling, dribbling around you. He's smiling. [00:14:38] Speaker A: But being able to just ride off the foot, no step, cross the, cross the ball all the way across the field is extremely impressive. Extremely impressive. Normally a lot we would, you would have to take a couple steps before being able to cross it that far. Just right off the foot. Right off the foot. So I can do that? Yeah, you can. It's a luxury to have all these players, to have the new additions have three brothers playing for our school. All glory to the lord for that. And just the skill that we have on this team is so awesome. So hopefully we can bring home something going into this last month of the regular season. [00:15:17] Speaker B: Yes. Like you said, it's so encouraging, too. Like plugging guys, moving position around and still being a very good team. [00:15:23] Speaker A: And the guys are excited. Yeah, they're looking at the talent that they got and they're like, we gotta make a run. This is nice. Speaking of nice, the volleyball team. [00:15:35] Speaker B: Yes. Holy cow. Weekend. Spent the weekend in Kansas City last weekend. Played at Spurgeon and then two games at Calvary. Spurgeon. A little deja vu from when we played them here. Took the first two sets pretty handily. [00:15:49] Speaker A: Yep. [00:15:50] Speaker B: Dropped the next two sets, went to set five. Started off really scary. We're down five to ten in the fifth set. Like, oh, boy, here we go again. But then, man, those girls, they didn't lose any heart. They crazy locked in. And Shane, they won the fifth set, 22 to 20, and they were down 510 and 122 to 20 in the fifth set. Now, as you know, the fifth set, it's first to 15 win by two. And they just kept going. It was crazy. They went in there and like, it was. And there was a huge support system. It was so cool. I think there were, I think eight of the, eight of the twelve girls had at least one parent there. [00:16:33] Speaker A: They took a picture. We can put it up on the screen right here. [00:16:36] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:16:37] Speaker A: No, just kidding. [00:16:38] Speaker B: But, yeah, no, it's really cool because. And just the support for that. So they were there for that weekend or for that game and then the next day at Calvary again against Bethany. So, yeah. Three two win over spurgeon. Amazing. Huge victory. Wait for them to play into, you know, not fold. Like, it's tough. [00:16:55] Speaker A: Like, that's key. [00:16:56] Speaker B: Losing two and you're like, oh, boy, here we go. We're gonna lose the third in a row. But they. Yeah, they kept it together and was in fought hard. And then on Saturday, they played Calvary, like we said, three ₩0. That pretty, pretty easily. And then they played NaIa Bethany college. [00:17:13] Speaker A: Yep. [00:17:13] Speaker B: Shout out coach Girardi. Cause that's where he ran and still has records there on the cross country and the track field. [00:17:19] Speaker A: So was that the connection to bring him in or. [00:17:21] Speaker B: I think that was just Calvary just had a try match, and that was a who they were playing, so. But, yeah, they played them. They end up losing one to three. So they did take a set. So pretty competitive game against Naia, and they're pretty decent NAI program. So, like, just like you said earlier, like, you know, playing those bigger competitions, knowing that we can compete with them, knowing that we can play with them. Like, you know, like we've talked about in the. In years past, like, losing three, one, or 30 isn't always like, oh, they're, well, that much better. Like, you can still have very competitive teams, play each other and still lose 30. And that doesn't mean that, you know, you stink. It just means that obviously they scored more points when they counted, but. So that was encouraging. Came back, and then last night, they drove up to Judson University and played at Judson. And it was really cool because, like, we, like when last week's episode. So Sayla's mom played volleyball at. That's where Caitlyn's dad played baseball and basketball at. And so there was, I think most of the parents were there. I think Caitlin had about 30 or so people and family from her church that were there and came out, supported her. And so I was really cool. All the girls did end up losing 30, but they were first set. First set was a little rough, but then the next two sets. Yeah, we're pretty competitive. [00:18:43] Speaker A: And so got into a rhythm. First set. Second set was really good. [00:18:47] Speaker B: Yeah, they almost took that set. I think it was like, I think they were down, like, it was like 24 to 16, and then came back, and I think they went on, like a five point run. [00:18:58] Speaker A: And when you play against large schools like that, you're in your head. [00:19:01] Speaker B: Oh, yeah. You know, crowds there. The students, they're like, yeah, they are a christian school, and they're in CCA division one, but, you know, there's still a lot of noise that goes on. And especially, like, you know, those girls are just big. Like, their middle is like six two. [00:19:13] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:19:13] Speaker B: And that's like, that's tough. [00:19:15] Speaker A: Yeah. It's just going into that game, the mindset of, are we gonna win? [00:19:20] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:19:20] Speaker A: You know, it's hard. [00:19:21] Speaker B: Cause, like. Yeah, like, like that, you're like, okay, there's. There's no hope. But also, those games can almost be as, like, the most fun games because especially, like, in basketball, like, I'm. Our games where we went into, like, you have nothing to lose, so just go out there and have fun and play your best. And sometimes, you know, like the 2019 year, when they went out and beat Eureka, which was a final four d three team. So it's like, anything can happen in those games. [00:19:46] Speaker A: And, like, that's what I love about coach Hannah and Coach Meg is they care about the character, the personality of the player, and how it fits within the team more than the strategy behind the skill. Of course we want. [00:20:00] Speaker B: Of course they care about that, but. [00:20:01] Speaker A: Yeah, but if you're not gonna. We want you to fit with the team, with your personality, your hobbies, who you are, your character, more than if we need another setter or if we need another outside hitter, that's more important as a character. And I think that really shows throughout the season. It really does. It shows within on the girls as they are a family, as they really care about. [00:20:27] Speaker B: They literally want to be on the same floor. Like, they're all on, like, one floor, one floor off, because they're going to destroy. [00:20:36] Speaker A: That's for sure. But it's just a family aspect, community. I mean, that we say that all the time, but it's so true. Here we have recruits come. We have visitors that come here. We. What we emphasize is the community. You know, just as in Thor, when Asgard was destroyed, I was like, it's. [00:20:57] Speaker B: Not his dad's name. [00:20:59] Speaker A: Oh, yeah. It's not the place. [00:21:02] Speaker B: Not the place. [00:21:02] Speaker A: You know, it's the people. And that's the true here. Yeah, it's not. It's not Emmaus. It's the people at Emmaus. It's the. What's at our core, which is Christ. And the volleyball team we talked about last week, that core. The cross country. Exactly. Cross country is a great example of it. So is volleyball. And I just love how they don't, they don't want to get our girls expectations too high. You know, they let them know, like, this is where we stand. This is where Judson stands. Let's try to. Let's try to win it. Let's compete. But they're there. This a bigger school. It's gonna be a tough game. Let's. Let's not get ran over. And I don't think they did. I don't think they did. [00:21:38] Speaker B: They held their own. [00:21:39] Speaker A: They held their own. Especially not second set, especially against NaI. [00:21:42] Speaker B: Competition, which is scholarship people. [00:21:45] Speaker A: And seeing what they can do this last week against Spurgeon. My gosh, that grit, not folding. Keyword, not folding. Like, if your team can, can accomplish that, it's. It shows so much maturity and it shows so much growth of what they can accomplish this year. And that win, that experience is going to travel with them into conference, into tournament play, and it's just going to make them be better. [00:22:15] Speaker B: Yes. [00:22:15] Speaker A: And they're so. They are. They're. [00:22:17] Speaker B: I mean, we have so young three girls that are in the top ten statistically, you know, with Brooke and Salah both in blocks and then Michelle in assists. [00:22:27] Speaker A: So, like, they're a young team. Young team are pretty much our core. Are all sophomores. [00:22:32] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:22:32] Speaker A: You know, and then we got some stud freshmen this year. [00:22:36] Speaker B: Lindsey was hurt. She's been out these last four games because of her knee, which has been a reoccurring injury from high school. So hoping that she gets better and we'll get her back soon. [00:22:45] Speaker A: Four games seems like a long time, but it's only been a week. [00:22:47] Speaker B: I know. It's crazy. [00:22:48] Speaker A: So that is. Man, that's nuts. But. So she'll be great when we get back into the rotation for this, this weekend's matchups, which is gonna be exciting. [00:22:58] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:22:59] Speaker A: Looking for that. So cross country. [00:23:01] Speaker B: Yes. Cross country is off this week. Finally have a race tomorrow. [00:23:07] Speaker A: Yes. [00:23:07] Speaker B: Yes. [00:23:07] Speaker A: So looking forward to them getting on the field, especially track. Especially the men. [00:23:12] Speaker B: So it's just the guy. Just the guys are going on this one because they. Because the girls are off, but guys are going down to Missouri, I think, to Columbia. Yep. It's us. And then a bunch of d three s and a few ne eyes. [00:23:26] Speaker A: But this is a race. Our men's cross country can qualify. And they will. [00:23:30] Speaker B: They will. [00:23:31] Speaker A: They will qualify. [00:23:31] Speaker B: Percent. [00:23:32] Speaker A: I'm calling right now. [00:23:33] Speaker B: They're gonna qualify Matthew and, and Ben. And we'll see if will is able to run. I don't think he will be. And Caleb and Sam will still struggle with the injury. [00:23:43] Speaker A: Keep him in your prayers. He doesn't seem too discouraged about it, which is cool. He's here not just for cross country, he's here for education. [00:23:50] Speaker B: It's a good group of guys around him on the team. Yeah. [00:23:52] Speaker A: Yeah. So him being a part of the team will be good for him if he doesn't race this year. Sucks. But we still got next year and he still has this whole year to. [00:24:01] Speaker B: Really grow team will just qualify for nationals so that he can go run nationals. [00:24:05] Speaker A: Maybe that could happen. Maybe that could happen. That would be legendary. [00:24:09] Speaker B: Exciting. Yeah. There's a. Keep an eye out on social medias for the link because it is live tracked so you'll be able to live track the runners and when they. When they finish. And so keeping out that on our. On our website for that. [00:24:22] Speaker A: And don't. Don't be hating on us like they just had a sabbatical. All right. So there's. There was not much to talk about right now with cross country other than they've been training, they've been resting. The women's team, especially now the men's get a race. So next week. Next week. [00:24:38] Speaker B: Qualify for the first time in men's cross country history to mayas. [00:24:42] Speaker A: Oh, yeah. [00:24:42] Speaker B: Qualify as a team. [00:24:44] Speaker A: I haven't thought about that. [00:24:45] Speaker B: Yes. [00:24:45] Speaker A: And then we're going to blow them up next week on this podcast. So, I mean, we're just going to keep it simple and just tell you right now, they will qualify this weekend. [00:24:53] Speaker B: Yes. [00:24:53] Speaker A: They're going to happen. You know who's going to finish first? Out of the gas. I'll go opposite. Whatever. You go, you don't go. [00:25:00] Speaker B: All right, I'm going Benjdeen. [00:25:02] Speaker A: Okay. [00:25:06] Speaker B: I mean, I kind of like. It's gonna be better, Matthew. That's what it's okay. [00:25:09] Speaker A: I'm gonna go. Sam. [00:25:10] Speaker B: Sam's gonna come out. Dark horse. Yeah. [00:25:12] Speaker A: Sam running. [00:25:13] Speaker B: Running this. Running that. Alaskan wilderness. He's just gonna come out nowhere and do. And get there. Yeah. [00:25:18] Speaker A: Sam's a dog. They're all dogs. They all are. They're so good. They're all within a minute. [00:25:22] Speaker B: It's a bunch of great dudes. Yeah, there are some funny dudes. [00:25:26] Speaker A: I love them. [00:25:27] Speaker B: They're fast funny dudes. [00:25:29] Speaker A: Fast funny. [00:25:30] Speaker B: That's funny dudes. [00:25:31] Speaker A: Yeah. Okay. All right, so this week's matchups for fall sports. [00:25:38] Speaker B: Yeah. So cross country tomorrow. [00:25:40] Speaker A: Boom. [00:25:41] Speaker B: Soccer plays down at Ozark tomorrow, which. 02:00 p.m. game, which is a very early game. We'll see if it's live streamed or not. [00:25:48] Speaker A: 02:00 p.m. on a Friday. [00:25:49] Speaker B: Yeah, on a Friday. [00:25:49] Speaker A: That's weird. [00:25:50] Speaker B: I know. But then they're driving back 7 hours after the game. [00:25:52] Speaker A: Ozarks got spongy grass. [00:25:53] Speaker B: They do. [00:25:54] Speaker A: It's yellow and it's weird. It's spongy. But I kind of like it. You know, I didn't play on it. [00:26:01] Speaker B: But I like it where, like, the last time we played there, like, the ball just. It's almost like turf because the ball just. It does get zings on it. [00:26:10] Speaker A: I mean, our field is like, we got like a little hill, too. So, I mean, it beats playing on an elementary school on a slant down. We have played on field like that. [00:26:19] Speaker B: We're not playing on that field this year, though. Cause they don't have a team. [00:26:22] Speaker A: But anyway, Ozark. [00:26:25] Speaker B: So another conference game, that will be. [00:26:27] Speaker A: Our second conference game. So technically we have played. That counts. We've had two conference games against Faith and CCCB. But the only game that, because of Calvary. One reason of Calvary University being not having a soccer program this year, we've had a double up against some of our matchups. So we play Ozark twice, I believe, and then faith twice. So the first matchup against Faith, which was this weekend, last weekend, Tuesday, does not count towards our conference record, but our regular season, of course. Yes, CCCB does. So currently we are one and. Oh, and conquer in conference. [00:27:07] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:27:08] Speaker A: After this weekend, we will see. Hopefully we're two and o in conference, which would be huge. [00:27:12] Speaker B: Yes. [00:27:13] Speaker A: Because not every team makes it to conference this year. [00:27:17] Speaker B: Mm hmm. [00:27:17] Speaker A: There was only four teams that make it out of six. So the bottom two are out. So essentially, if you win three games accounts. Yeah. You win three games in conference, youre a practically in. So two is a huge step towards that three. And all we got to do is get this win and then find Manhattan or faith again after that, or even, you know, take it to Barclay because they seem to be the favorites right now. So there's that update for soccer. Get on the live stream for Ozark. Support those guys. And honestly, they're gonna. It's gonna be a fun game. It's gonna be a fun game. And volleyball, what's the update? [00:27:56] Speaker B: Volleyball is at moody on Saturday. So they travel up to Chicago, play a regional game. [00:28:01] Speaker A: So do we know our record for. In regional? For conference? [00:28:07] Speaker B: Regional, we are 10. One and then one and, oh, in the conference. [00:28:12] Speaker A: Because we've only played Calvary. [00:28:13] Speaker B: Yep. [00:28:14] Speaker A: There we go. So volleyballs looking really good in the standings. I know. Conference gonna be really tough with Manhattan is being ranked. Are they where they ranked one? [00:28:22] Speaker B: They ranked one. I mean, and it's like, right now it's Manhattan, and then everyone else is fighting for second. Cause they are fighting for second. They are so good this year. [00:28:30] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:28:30] Speaker B: And so that's not unbeatable. [00:28:32] Speaker A: No, they're very, very so they're in our conference. Our team was super young last year. [00:28:36] Speaker B: They were. We had the national championship last year. Manhattan did. [00:28:41] Speaker A: Yeah. So our team very young last year, freshman core. Now have some more experience. Has, has the experience from Spurgeon going into a new this season, the rest of the season of conference and regional play, maybe that will help our team have that grit to take home those games. Take home those sets. Finished strong. [00:29:01] Speaker B: They were the first team to take a set off of them. They were in the conference. [00:29:04] Speaker A: They were, they were. [00:29:05] Speaker B: So so. [00:29:06] Speaker A: And they played pretty strong, even though with a lot of errors and some injuries last year when Manhattan came, played us here. So we'll see. Who knows? We'll see what happens with this experience. I mean, it's a scary women's volleyball team that we have. And I was telling, we had a freshman recruit the other day on campus. I was telling her, when you come here, 2026, you're gonna be going to nationals. So fun. Yeah. Not to put in that pressure on, on you on our women's volleyball team, but we have so much confidence. [00:29:38] Speaker B: Yes. Hundred percent. [00:29:39] Speaker A: And we have, you have all of our support. So looking forward to what you guys are able to do this weekend as well as this year. So looking good in the standings there and then the men are going to make it the nationals and qualify this weekend. It's going to be a great episode next week. Lots of things to talk about. We're going to win volleyball, we're going to win in soccer. We're going to qualify for nationals. And then they get the whole week off to rest to put together schemes and plan and strategy for this next month before conference and regional play, tournament play and can strategize lineups, rest and be healthy. [00:30:15] Speaker B: Yes. Get recovered going into family homecoming weekend. So speak about that, you parents, friends of the college, alumni, there's still time to sign up for homecoming week this upcoming weekend. We have spiritual emphasis days on campus. This is week on campus this week, which is a great event, and then going right into homecoming. So we'd love to have you guys here. Come see all the great things that are happening at Emmaus. Come support the students here. Come support women's volleyball, men's soccer, and our cross country team because they're doing a family fun run five k on Saturday morning. There's also the golf outing on Friday. So a lot of fantastic events to be here on campus and just get to know, you know, who's here and the current students and what their interests and who they are and they get to see, you know, eagles of the past, which is encouraging. [00:31:05] Speaker A: And maybe future eagles. [00:31:06] Speaker B: And maybe future eagles. There will be future eagles there. [00:31:08] Speaker A: It's always a fun time on the formerly known as parents, parent and alumni weekend. Now homecoming weekend. So really looking forward to that. Having friends and like you said, eagles from the past coming back. It's always a great time. Big picnic in the courtyard, lots of games, lots of activities. The fun run. I'm not gonna do it for fun. Doesn't mean you shouldn't do it. I just don't want to run because. [00:31:33] Speaker B: I think they are doing the for me, the kids half mile race again this year. [00:31:37] Speaker A: Are you gonna do the. I would do that. [00:31:39] Speaker B: I mean, I'm not a kid, so I can't do it. But we should do it. [00:31:42] Speaker A: They should. [00:31:43] Speaker B: Maybe the eagle costume. [00:31:45] Speaker A: Oh, no. [00:31:47] Speaker B: So it's. We're looking forward to a great and fun weekend also still a week left to sign up for discover. Manus weekend on the deadline is next Sunday. W de w. So still time for that. We'd love to have you out there. A lot of fun events. More soccer, more volleyball, a fantastic concert that's put on from a church up in Illinois. And then we're gonna have such a fun event. The Eagle bonanza put on by the student union. It's gonna be so much fun. [00:32:15] Speaker A: That's gonna be great. [00:32:15] Speaker B: It will be. [00:32:16] Speaker A: There is. We won't say anything about it, but. [00:32:19] Speaker B: You gotta be there to find out. [00:32:21] Speaker A: So it's gonna be a great time.
