[00:00:00] Speaker A: They were cutting half of the undergraduate programs and cutting athletics indefinitely. The freshmen and sophomores were told to transfer out. Like that was just it. Point blank. [00:00:11] Speaker B: And welcome back, ladies and gentlemen, to the official Emmaus Athletic Podcast in the Nest. I'm your co host, Shane Douglas, here with Matthew Tomlinson again. What? Excuse me, lovely Matthew Thomason. [00:00:23] Speaker A: Yeah. Matthew grew like a full head of hair. [00:00:26] Speaker B: That's impossible. Matt can't grow hair. Oh, that's. That's good. That's a great opening surprise. Matt, we have Jenna on the podcast today. Jenna, how do I pronounce your last name? I always botch it and I don't want to. [00:00:39] Speaker A: It is pronounced lost. Utter. Believe me, a lot of adults and a lot of announcers have mispronounced it. I have been used to it my entire life. It is pronounced lost. Utter. It's like pronouncing, like saying the word law like this is the law, and then stuttering together. And there you go. [00:00:57] Speaker B: Today we have Jenna Lostetter on In the Nest. Today we got another student representation. Jenna is a senior this year here at Emmaus University and we're happy to have you on the podcast. She was. [00:01:08] Speaker A: Thank you for having me. [00:01:09] Speaker B: You played three years for the Emmaus Eagles. [00:01:12] Speaker A: Yes, I did. [00:01:13] Speaker B: For the women's basketball team. And this year was a little struggle. [00:01:16] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:01:17] Speaker B: For you. Because first semester was fine. [00:01:19] Speaker A: Yes. [00:01:20] Speaker B: But then you had to student teach this semester. So you've only really played the home games. [00:01:24] Speaker A: Yeah, the home games and the away trip I was able to go to, which was the away game at CCCB on February 8th. And that's when I wrapped up my career and sawed my eyes out for a solid 10 minutes straight. But it also helped that my parents surprised me at that game and I had no idea because they told me that they were going to watch via live stream. So seeing them there definitely helped the. Just helped in general. But also I had my mom to cry on her shoulder because I was just sobbing like crazy because that's awesome. I love basketball. [00:01:55] Speaker B: I love to hear that. And that was your last game. Oh, yeah, I know. [00:01:59] Speaker A: Sorry to start on a sad note, but. [00:02:01] Speaker B: I know. But we're happy to have you here. We had Mr. Iverson, Mr. Tim Iverson with us last week and Matt's been busy. He's been out and he hasn't been able to make into the studio to record a podcast. But we'll get him next week and hopefully, hopefully it's a happy Matthew. That would be awesome. Because last week was devastating and then we got this week going into regional play and that's what we're going to be talking about today is recapping last week with conference and then talking about the this week which is starting today. As you're listening to this with regional play and I believe it's today. Yeah, it is today. [00:02:39] Speaker A: Yeah. The team left today. They will be playing or Wednesday. [00:02:41] Speaker B: They left Wednesday. [00:02:42] Speaker A: Yeah, that's right. Sorry, no time frame bothering me a little bit or just confusing me a little bit. But be fine. [00:02:49] Speaker B: Left Wednesday. [00:02:49] Speaker A: Yep. And playing Thursday and possibly Friday in Michigan. [00:02:54] Speaker B: Who's home again? Is it Great Lakes? [00:02:56] Speaker A: Yes. I believe. [00:02:59] Speaker B: Yes, yes. Things are Great Lakes or Grace, man, they're right next to each other so it doesn't matter. [00:03:05] Speaker A: They're so close. It's just like it could be either or. [00:03:07] Speaker B: Either way. Thank you guys for listening, tuning in today, especially you, Andy Fessler. Just thinking about you all the time now listening to our podcast on the couch in your basement. But everyone else where wherever you're listening to us. If you're like Andy in your basement late at night in the dark, that's, that's great. But if you're on the road, if you're, you're in the office. Thank you so much for making this a part of your day. We appreciate the love and the support from you guys, from all you alum, supporters, families, even you students. We know, we notice, we know this. So thank you again for making this part of your daily listen or your weekly listen since it is just a one episode a week. If you want more, let us know. Either way. Jenna. Yes. Senior year. [00:03:54] Speaker A: Yes. [00:03:55] Speaker B: Elementary education. [00:03:56] Speaker A: Yep. [00:03:57] Speaker B: How has it been? [00:03:58] Speaker A: It has been crazy busy. Like my schedule is always like jam packed but I'm always getting stuff done and I always try to find time to one get in the word and still be studying the Bible even though I may not be doing it for like a grade and stuff like that, but also doing like playing basketball my senior year and still having that opportunity in the second semester as well. Even with student teaching and my team being so, so, so supportive throughout the whole process and even Coach Cody with him coming in and just learning, being like, yeah, I'm a senior and I'll still be on the team but it's just like I'm not going to be in practice as frequently or coming to all of the games and stuff like that. He's been so, so supportive as well, along with Coach Heather too. [00:04:39] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:04:39] Speaker A: So it has been so amazing. Like I've had a great senior year just trying to soak up every single moment within my final months. [00:04:47] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:04:48] Speaker A: Being in college, which is crazy to say, and especially knowing that my brother's coming up soon with him being a senior. Shout out. Jj, I know you. I know you're watching this. [00:04:58] Speaker B: Yeah. John, respond to my text messages. Okay. [00:05:01] Speaker A: But no, he won't. [00:05:02] Speaker B: He won't. I'm his admissions counselor for anyways, either way. [00:05:06] Speaker A: But yeah, also my family has been so, so supportive throughout this whole process as well. And cheering me on everywhere and always watching the live streams. And even my brother just texted me saying, hey, I know you. That was a rough loss. But I saw you going in there, putting in your best, putting in the work, and I love you, sis. And I was just like, oh, so it meant a lot to me. [00:05:25] Speaker B: Filled with encouragement. [00:05:26] Speaker A: Yes. [00:05:27] Speaker B: Well, Jenna, a lot of people don't know your story a little bit, but tell them a little bit because some people are like, okay, here's this random person on the podcast. Yeah, we get, you know, it's her name's Jenna. We can barely pronounce her last name. She's a senior. You know, she's loud. Etc. Either way, you've had a very interesting story in your college career. Not necessarily basketball wise, but just academically, collegiately. Yes. Tell us how you got to Emmaus. What was your road? That should be a podcast. Will write it down. Your road to Emmaus. I guess they kind of have a chapel sermon with that they wrote to. Is that what they call it? I don't know. [00:06:04] Speaker A: Either way, I miss being a chapel. [00:06:05] Speaker B: Yeah, same. So what. How. Short story. [00:06:09] Speaker A: Yes. [00:06:09] Speaker B: As we're here to talk about sports, but for to give people a background of one of our student athletes right here, people who you support through watching this podcast, watching a live stream, praying, giving. Right here. Tell us your. A short story how your road to Emmaus. [00:06:26] Speaker A: All right, so my freshman year, I was a athlete, a small Christian college called Lincoln Christian University, or LCU in Lincoln, Illinois, where I was playing basketball. And I decided last minute through some of my basketball teammates to join the soccer team, which actually, fun fact, the first home game that LCU played, Emmaus was there. So that was my first, like catching wind of Emmaus. But I didn't think too much of it. We absolutely, the men absolutely obliterated them 10 to nothing in the middle of Illinois heat. Just. [00:06:57] Speaker B: You don't need to add that. Don't need to add that. [00:06:59] Speaker A: That was a rough patchio was there. [00:07:01] Speaker B: And a rough patch. It was a rough year for EMEA soccer team. All right. It was. It was the downslope of the 2018 team just from AQ to pick it up towards the end, which was, you know, kind of the peak of this last year. Continue. [00:07:15] Speaker A: All right, Aside from that. So on February 22, 2022, on all Tuesday, we got a cryptic email saying, hey, you need to meet in the chapel for a mandatory meeting. And all of us are, like, conspiring, trying to figure out what is happening. [00:07:30] Speaker B: What'd you think it was? [00:07:31] Speaker A: I genuinely had no idea. I don't. I truly didn't know. I was hearing different theories, but I just had no idea. I was just, like, going in there blind and just trying to be like, whatever happens, it's God's plan. [00:07:42] Speaker B: All right? [00:07:43] Speaker A: And what we were told was they were cutting half of the undergraduate programs and cutting athletics indefinitely. Which. Which is sad. Which. Because we played our last home basketball game the day before. We got this, before that meeting happened. So we had played our last LCU basketball game without even realizing it, which was even crazier. So we, the freshmen and sophomores were told to transfer out. Like, that was just it, point blank. If you were a junior or senior, you were told to stick it out. So, of course, I called my parents in, like, a panic of being like, this is happening. And I was sobbing because I had gotten so close with my LCU teammates. And I was just like, now I have to leave them. What is happening? I don't want to go through this college process again. But they're like, take a week at least to, like, breathe and try to calm your brain, because I know it's very scattered right now. Trust God in this process, and we will start going through the college process again. And. Which I did. And I was a little hesitant to go back into basketball, but it was on my God was laying on my heart that I wasn't done. [00:08:48] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:08:49] Speaker A: So I was between Emmaus and one other eschool. I've been forgetting the name. But what drew me to Emmaus was the academy, the community. It was the biggest thing for me because of how everyone knew everyone and how you were able to make friends within your program outside of athletics and as well. Like, everyone knew everyone. Like, that was a big thing for me because especially coming from a small, private Christian high school, you knew everyone. So that was a big thing for me. The second thing was the academic program. The elementary program was. I had so many opportunities for that, and being integrated in the classroom every single year was huge for me. And then three was basketball. Like, I knew I Wasn't done with it. And then the way I was recruited in and just the team welcome me in, welcoming me in with open arms, meant a lot to me. And like, even the first Amaz women's basketball player to message me saying, hey, I'm happy you're on the team. Can't wait to play with you. Was Matty Wiest. And I will forever. [00:09:55] Speaker B: And you're graduating with her, too. [00:09:56] Speaker A: I know. And I love Matty. We do. Absolute death. [00:09:59] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:10:00] Speaker A: So. But then. Then again, that's everyone on my team. [00:10:02] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:10:03] Speaker A: So that's kind of my road to a mish. [00:10:05] Speaker B: And the rest is history. And you came in, and it's been a good experience so far. Yeah. [00:10:09] Speaker A: Oh, yeah. [00:10:09] Speaker B: We're not. We are not like, we don't have, like, a. Like, threatening her behind the scenes, so. [00:10:14] Speaker A: They'Re not holding me hostage, I promise. [00:10:16] Speaker B: No, that's. Thank you. Thank you so much for sharing your story and everyone. It's. It's really cool to hear everyone's story, how they came to Amas. But even what. [00:10:23] Speaker A: I didn't even know Dubuque existed until Sharon reached out to me and said, hey, why don't you come up to Dubuque, Iowa, and visit Emmaus for yourself? [00:10:30] Speaker B: And like, okay, I. I've never heard of Dubuque either before I came, but it's first town in Iowa, first west of the Mississippi. [00:10:36] Speaker A: Yeah. And this is the furthest I've ever been away from home because from Dubuque to my home is five hours. [00:10:41] Speaker B: Oh, you got me beat. [00:10:42] Speaker A: Yep. [00:10:43] Speaker B: Well, Jenna, now that everyone knows you a little bit more and how you got to Emmaus, you know, they know your major and just everything. Everything about you. Let's talk basketball. So you've been in the program for three years. You know the women's team. Well, you've had two different coaches. [00:10:59] Speaker A: Yes. [00:11:00] Speaker B: Sharon Thomason, as well as Cody Canard and the companies that were with them and have experienced many different teammates. And you're graduating this year with a larger senior class. How many seniors are there? So you. [00:11:13] Speaker A: I genuinely don't know. I think Maybe this is why. 30ish. [00:11:18] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:11:19] Speaker A: I'm guessing. [00:11:20] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:11:20] Speaker A: I know the freshman class definitely out numbers the senior class by a lot, but either way, I just don't know. [00:11:26] Speaker B: It's true. [00:11:26] Speaker A: I think it's 30, but I could be wrong. [00:11:28] Speaker B: Large freshman class this year. Either way. Conference. Let's recap. Conference. Real quick. Conference was pretty tough. [00:11:34] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:11:35] Speaker B: For the women's team. Opened up the game, lost the very first game. [00:11:39] Speaker A: Yep. [00:11:40] Speaker B: Was really tough. [00:11:41] Speaker A: Yeah. Faith is a good competitor, don't get me wrong. But it's just like trying. It's depending on how you start and then how you finish and stuff. Definitely things in between. [00:11:51] Speaker B: But I mean, to be fair, loss of faith in the first round and Faith went on to win against Ozark. [00:11:57] Speaker A: Yeah. That shocked me when I saw that score. I was like, wait, what? [00:12:00] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:12:01] Speaker A: And I was texting all of my team as being like, is this for real? Am I in an alternate dimension? [00:12:05] Speaker B: And we got a good relationship with a lot of the Faith coaches. That's where Sharon Thomason coaches now, too. So shout out Sharon and. And Zach and all your success. You guys had a great season. Keep it up, carry it into regionals. But the coolest part of the week for the women's team was the next game. [00:12:24] Speaker A: Yes. [00:12:24] Speaker B: To play for. Was it fifth? [00:12:27] Speaker A: No, that's. This is the game before that got us to fifth. [00:12:31] Speaker B: Okay. [00:12:31] Speaker A: Spoiler. [00:12:32] Speaker B: Yeah. Well, you guys won the game. [00:12:34] Speaker A: Yes. Which is great. To add another W to the column. [00:12:38] Speaker B: And there's a video out there is. I believe it. The video is on our social media page. So go to our social media pages. I know it's on Instagram. It should be on Facebook. I have no idea. [00:12:48] Speaker A: It's on Facebook. [00:12:48] Speaker B: It's on Facebook. I don't get on Facebook much, so that's why. I don't know. But of a Maddie, we senior draining a three. [00:12:56] Speaker A: Maddie miracle three. I'm with titling it that. [00:13:00] Speaker B: And it wasn't a buzzer beater, but it might as. It was the dagger. It was a dagger. Putting them up. Putting you guys up. What three? [00:13:07] Speaker A: It was tied right before Maddie shot that three. And when you watch the video back, you see the defense sagging so far off of Maddie. And when you sag off of Maddie, especially when she's on the three point arc. I have definitely done this. She will drain it in your face. [00:13:25] Speaker B: She did. She did in that moment. [00:13:26] Speaker A: Yep. [00:13:27] Speaker B: So shout out the shadow or Maddie. [00:13:29] Speaker A: Shout out that dog. [00:13:31] Speaker B: Shout out to Mad Dog right there. Winning the game. [00:13:34] Speaker A: Yes. [00:13:34] Speaker B: And then moving on to the next. The next round, which ultimately lost that one. [00:13:38] Speaker A: But to Manhattan. [00:13:39] Speaker B: To Manhattan. And that's okay. But that was a bright spot, winning a game outside of Maranatha this year for our women's team. Yes. Giving them three wins this season. And the women were very excited and very happy after the game. So. [00:13:52] Speaker A: Yes. One of my teammates, Sydney Mulgrew, she was texting me what's kind of what was going on Because I was in the middle of student teaching and teaching lessons, and I was just like, wait, what? She's like, it's tied at two minutes. I'm, like, freaking out. I was like, she's on the bench. [00:14:06] Speaker B: She's on the bench texting you? [00:14:08] Speaker A: No, she was sick that weekend. Oh, she was sick that weekend. So she and I were on campus. Like, we were watching the Manhattan game in the student center with some. A few other people. [00:14:18] Speaker B: Okay. [00:14:18] Speaker A: So it was nice to have her in that moment. She was also texting me, being like, how do you do this every single week? And I'm like, jesus. [00:14:24] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:14:24] Speaker A: Jesus over here. [00:14:25] Speaker B: So fair enough, fair enough, fair enough. But shout out to the women's team for pulling off a W. And a fun one at that. Yes, Fun one. So go look at that replay. It was pretty fun and exciting. [00:14:36] Speaker A: It's so beautiful. It makes me smile every time. [00:14:38] Speaker B: The last two minutes of that game. So it was pretty. It was. It was a thriller. [00:14:43] Speaker A: Oh, yeah. [00:14:43] Speaker B: A nail biter. But what are you. So going into regionals this week? [00:14:48] Speaker A: Yes. [00:14:49] Speaker B: These are going to be the last games of the season, which is crazy. [00:14:52] Speaker A: To even think about that. The basketball season is basically done unless. [00:14:55] Speaker B: They go on the Cinderella run, which has happened with our AMAZ teams in the past, and they go to nationals. [00:15:01] Speaker A: Which would be during spring break. [00:15:03] Speaker B: Insane. And. Yeah, I mean, I'm talking about. It would be just insane. Yes. But how has the season been so far? What's. What kind of. What is. What's your process? What do you think? The recapping a little bit of the season with conference, going into regionals? What's your insight? [00:15:19] Speaker A: I mean, there's always trials and tribulations within every season, whether you have a winning record or a losing record as well. Overall, the season has gone pretty well. We've gotten better as each game has gone on. And even with the changes of, like, sickness or student teaching or. Or anything. That's our depth. Yeah, depth as well. Like anything that is thrown our way, we've taken it. And we're like, all right, this is what we got. We're going to adjust and move on. And one quote that my dad always told me growing up, especially with basketball, losers complain while winners make adjustments. Adjustments. And that has been so impactful. And, like, we have been constantly adjusting so we have that winner mentality and we know that we can win. Like, we were shocking everyone within the first two games against Trinity, being like, we were in it. And it's. We. It's just worth some things. That we needed to clean up. [00:16:10] Speaker B: And I'll be fair, like you guys have been in a lot of the games you played this season. [00:16:13] Speaker A: Yeah. So a lot of those games could have been easily won. [00:16:15] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:16:16] Speaker A: It's just cleaning up some other miscellaneous things for sure. Yeah. [00:16:20] Speaker B: And there it comes down to depth a lot. I think that's what really hurt you guys this last weekend at conference was not having the depth on the bench. Yeah, people just getting tired and it's really tough. But Cody, Coach Kennard and company have really put you in a spot to succeed. And from my point form, I hear from you, you guys have that mentality, that sisterhood that is giving you opportunities and encouraging one another to push forward. But like, like we're talking about depth. This weekend the women's team is traveling to Michigan with only six players. [00:16:53] Speaker A: Seven. [00:16:53] Speaker B: Seven. [00:16:54] Speaker A: Now seven. Because it's the starting five, Destiny and Sydney. [00:16:58] Speaker B: Okay. So I was told six today, but unless Sydney ended up going on a trip, then I know Sammy was good. [00:17:05] Speaker A: To go for this. [00:17:07] Speaker B: So awesome. So seven players. So again, depth is going to be another issue this weekend. I mean, they're missing you as well. So hopefully. So hopefully we'll see what, what, what they're able to pull off the women's team and we'll get to the men's team. But yes, the women's team is ranked fourth in regional play right now and they'll be playing against Maranatha, who's ranked fifth. [00:17:30] Speaker A: Yes. [00:17:30] Speaker B: Winner of that game will play against the number one seed, Great Lakes. Great Lakes, which Great Lakes swept the one seed for regionals this year. [00:17:39] Speaker A: Both actually one of my LC former LCU teammates. She is the starting point guard and she is playing for them. [00:17:45] Speaker B: So she and I should have came to Emmaus actually. Well, I guess she's having success with Great Lakes, so she's fine there. [00:17:51] Speaker A: But she and I have messaged periodically. [00:17:53] Speaker B: Awesome. [00:17:53] Speaker A: So. [00:17:54] Speaker B: So Emmaus was actually. The women's team was ranked 26th in the nation power rankings that just came out Wednesday, which is great. But then fourth in the regional and we're able to see what they'll able to pull both their wins. Well, I guess they got three wins this season. Two of their three wins this season have been against Maranatha. [00:18:14] Speaker A: It's definitely winnable. And as I was talking to Aaron, Nelly and Sydney the other night is that we should win and can win. [00:18:23] Speaker B: Yeah. But Maranatha has a lot of depth. A lot of depth. And they have poster board material against Emmaus. One being the underdog I mean. Yeah, Underdog. I would even suggest the. The. A big poster board of not winning again, a game against Emmaus this season. [00:18:43] Speaker A: Yeah, that's right. I forgot about that. [00:18:45] Speaker B: It puts a lot of pressure. [00:18:46] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:18:46] Speaker B: On Maranatha for sure. [00:18:48] Speaker A: But coming up and showing out. [00:18:50] Speaker B: Yeah, I mean. Yeah. I mean, being able to. I mean, it's. Do you want to get swept. Do you want to get swept from a mess? I mean, it's pretty rare. Right, Right, Will, It's a pretty rare, Rare, rare wins we have against Maranatha. Just some. Some average pettiness over here with Shane. Luckily, Matt's not here to add to that. [00:19:13] Speaker A: Yeah, the winter. Winter fest posters were quite hilarious, especially during the Maranatha game. [00:19:19] Speaker B: Yeah, fair enough. Yeah, they were really fun. But we'll see what the women's team can pull off this weekend. So again, the women's team team is ranked fourth, playing against Maranatha for a third time this year. Always tough to beat a team three times. [00:19:37] Speaker A: Yes. [00:19:37] Speaker B: And then moving on to play Great Lakes. Yes. Another thing to note from this last weekend, the women's team won the sportsmanship award. [00:19:44] Speaker A: Yes, they did. And Rachel got second team all conference. [00:19:47] Speaker B: There we go. There you go, Will. [00:19:49] Speaker A: There it is. [00:19:50] Speaker B: Thanks for doing that, buddy. Yeah. Shout out to Rachel for getting second team. Should have gotten for first team, but it's okay. [00:19:57] Speaker A: Talk about the real. What's the word? [00:20:01] Speaker B: Snub. [00:20:01] Speaker A: Yes, the snub of Nash Harper. [00:20:04] Speaker B: Not yet. [00:20:04] Speaker A: All right. [00:20:05] Speaker B: Not yet for now. We'll save that for. In two minutes. Okay. But, yeah, so sportsmanship award, which I think this is the second time that. [00:20:15] Speaker A: We'Ve gotten it during my time. [00:20:16] Speaker B: You embody it very well. You women are great examples of Christ on the court, off the court. And I think it just. It really shows that. And I'm not. I'm not trying to be prideful, but it is kind of the. [00:20:32] Speaker A: Yeah, we're definitely. Yeah, we definitely are a family on and off the court. Like, we're constantly hanging out with each other, and it's not like we're forced to do it. It's like we genuinely want to hang out with each other. Like, we had Survivor nights in the. [00:20:47] Speaker B: Like, you watch Survivor? [00:20:48] Speaker A: Yeah, we watched Survivor like, two seasons. [00:20:50] Speaker B: Maddie's obsessed with it. That. [00:20:51] Speaker A: Yes. [00:20:52] Speaker B: Survivor comes out well at the time of this recording. It comes out last night. Wednesday night. [00:21:01] Speaker A: Yes. [00:21:01] Speaker B: But I. I look forward to Survivor. Big fan. Big fan of Survivor. So if you see me, talk to me about Survivor, love it. [00:21:07] Speaker A: So, yeah, we had Survivor night. We even Just do homework together, even eating dinner together. [00:21:11] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:21:12] Speaker A: There was like even a time where all of us would just sit in a row in chapel. Like we would just all sit next to each other. We really are a sisterhood and. [00:21:18] Speaker B: Yeah. And that reflects on the court and how you treat other teams. [00:21:21] Speaker A: Absolutely. [00:21:22] Speaker B: And it's why you really see a lot of. A lot of the teams that win the sports of super were award being a Mass or Faith Calvary. [00:21:30] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:21:31] Speaker B: I mean, I remember when I was on a soccer team as a manager, we would always fellowship with Calvary before the game, sing worship songs. And I've said that many times on this podcast. And yeah, it's this something special. It goes beyond the court, beyond the game, beyond the field. And it's. It's more. It's more than the game. [00:21:48] Speaker A: Absolutely. [00:21:48] Speaker B: So it's great. But either way, good luck to the women this weekend. [00:21:54] Speaker A: Good luck. I love you guys. [00:21:55] Speaker B: What do you know what time they play? [00:21:58] Speaker A: I unfortunately do not. This is the. This is one of the rare times where I actually don't know what time because again, it's in a different time zone because they're in Michigan and we're here in Iowa. So it's just like I. This is the one time I genuinely don't know, but I know they are playing Thursday and possibly Friday. [00:22:16] Speaker B: I got that right here. [00:22:17] Speaker A: There we go. [00:22:18] Speaker B: So women's team make sure to go to either Great Lakes. Where are they at? Yeah, go to Great Lakes website or YouTube page to try to find the streaming. They will play Thursday. So tonight, Thursday, February 27th at 4pm Eastern time because it is Eastern time. So 3pm For. For us here in the Midwest in Iowa. So 4pm Eastern Time, game one, Emmaus University against Maranatha Baptist. So you can either go to Great Lakes YouTube page or social media. Our social media will probably post it as well. And you can also find it on the N double C double A website and go to regional finals. It should be updated with the live video link. So make sure to check that out. That would be fun. And support the Eagles. Support your Emea Seagulls. [00:23:13] Speaker A: The women's for the final games. [00:23:15] Speaker B: Final games of the season. Well, let's move on to the men's team and how they fared this last week at regionals, which wasn't great. Yeah, it wasn't great. [00:23:28] Speaker A: I got kind of the insight from Aaron from what was going on because I was seeing these scores and I was like, is everything okay? [00:23:35] Speaker B: What the Heck is Aaron McKenna players. [00:23:38] Speaker A: My E. So I was Asking her being like, what is happening? Is everything okay? And she was kind of telling me. So I was like, that does factor. [00:23:47] Speaker B: Into that in an appropriate podcast way. What were some of the things. [00:23:51] Speaker A: What I was hearing was a lot of injuries were happening. [00:23:54] Speaker B: Yep. [00:23:55] Speaker A: I heard Landon Jacovis. I heard Collier. [00:23:58] Speaker B: Yep. So Collier wasn't able to play against the first. In the first game. So. [00:24:02] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:24:03] Speaker B: For the listeners, if you remember, last week, we were playing against Central in the first round, which is a team that is very beatable. We beat by 10 this season. We did lose to them at home. We split in the regular season. But a team we should be beating and lost them in the first round. Only by a couple. They did run away. Yeah, they definitely ran away with it through free throws and towards the end of the game. [00:24:25] Speaker A: So. Yeah. [00:24:26] Speaker B: But Collier sat out the entire game. His. I think it was his ankle. [00:24:31] Speaker A: I think so. [00:24:31] Speaker B: Or his knee was. Was hurt. So he didn't play at all, which really hurt the team. Uh, really hurt. The, uh, athletic. Athletic ability and driving to the paint as well as just the shooting. So Collier was out. And the thing is, like, we still have the talent without Collier on the court to finish that game. It's just. I don't know. It's. It's. It go. [00:24:51] Speaker A: It could have been just easily as an off night because we all have our good nights and our bad nights as well. [00:24:57] Speaker B: It's like you said, it went beyond Collier's injury. There were a lot of others. I mean, and that's. [00:25:02] Speaker A: And that was within the second game too, that they played. There was another injury that I was told about. [00:25:06] Speaker B: Tatum. Tatum got hurt in the second game and so they weren't able to finish, which is sad. But then also they had their mindset on regionals and not finishing fifth. Yeah. So that's definitely something to keep your eye out on. Is. Or to. To. Or not to. It's. To answer your question of how did we lose to, you know, Central, how do we lose to Barclay, etc. A lot of it has to do with. Had our eyes set on regionals. [00:25:36] Speaker A: Yes. [00:25:36] Speaker B: But also lots of injuries. Lots of injuries. They, they. The team and the coaches will say, of course to the press on the media, they'll always say that they. They aren't going to give up. They're going to put 100% in the game. And they definitely did. They definitely did. [00:25:51] Speaker A: Oh, yeah, absolutely. [00:25:52] Speaker B: But when you got half the team that is injured, you're going to be babying. [00:25:57] Speaker A: Yeah. It's going to be a. Even More an uphill kind of fight. And especially that's what happened my first year with Mattie tearing her ACL and another ACL tear and it going from like eight to six. [00:26:09] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:26:10] Speaker A: Within a matter of minutes. [00:26:11] Speaker B: And a fun story. When they. I. When they were on their way to the conference championships, conference tournament, the van Diesel, the bus they take, the door broke again. Which was a story we've shared a couple weeks ago about the door breaking. [00:26:27] Speaker A: This is new information to me, so I'm just ashamed y'all are. [00:26:30] Speaker B: For all you guys know right now, I think the men's basketball team is 02 or 03 when the door is broken on a way trip. [00:26:38] Speaker A: So I haven't had their van shut, like, break down at 1am in Kansas City and we had to cram some of them in. That was a fun night. I was in that van for that. That was crazy. [00:26:51] Speaker B: That's great. And I mean, that's. We'll see. I gotta reach out to Matt, see if the van door broke. I don't think it did. I'll text him right now and ask him if the van door broke and we'll know if they're going to win this weekend or not. [00:27:08] Speaker A: I would like them to win. To add another W to the column because obviously I want the Amazing Eagles to win. But again, in tournament play, as we have seen, you never know what to expect. [00:27:19] Speaker B: This is true. This is true. [00:27:21] Speaker A: Well, I'm sure CCCB wasn't prepared for us to win, so. [00:27:25] Speaker B: Not at all. And Central went on to play against Ozark. Ozark won and they went to the finals play against Manhattan and Manhattan ended up winning the whole thing. So both Ozark's men and women's team made it to the championship, but both lost, which sucks. I feel bad for Ozark in that way. [00:27:40] Speaker A: Yeah. Because they were, I think, on a two, Pete. [00:27:42] Speaker B: Yep, they were. [00:27:43] Speaker A: Well, for the women's side, at least for the men, I think they upset Manhattan last year because they were the underdog. [00:27:49] Speaker B: Yep. And this is true. [00:27:50] Speaker A: So. [00:27:51] Speaker B: Well, some spotlights of this last weekend for the men is that Tatum got first team all conference. [00:28:01] Speaker A: Where's the Eagle at? [00:28:01] Speaker B: Come on, Will. There we go. [00:28:03] Speaker A: There it is. [00:28:04] Speaker B: And then this is what you're referencing is Nash getting second team all conference, which is really tough. Give him. He did get. He should have gotten first team. He should have got an honorable mention. Actually, I'm joking. Collier getting honorable mention, which, I mean, that goes. Come on. What are you doing? Will, Call her. Getting an honorable mention, which shows tells You a lot of his play this season. [00:28:31] Speaker A: Yes. [00:28:32] Speaker B: And the fact that he was not able to play against Central or in the tournament. Conference tournament says a lot of the why shows why the team wasn't able to pull through some of those games. [00:28:43] Speaker A: The instant impact that they've had is insane. Like, I was there to witness their scrimmage against Clark jv. I what I think it was just seeing the instant impact that they had. I was like, these are some good freshmen. Like, this is crazy. I can't wait to see what happens in actual games. Like actual legitimate. We're keeping score and stats like this is cool. [00:29:06] Speaker B: No. If we can be able to retain a lot of these players for the men's team next year. Yeah, it's gonna be a dangerous team to watch, especially with some of the recruits, Lord willing, next year. But also. I'm sorry, I'm drinking Diet Coke. This is actually Matt's. This is. [00:29:19] Speaker A: I should have brought my. The new bubbler flavor. This is funny slacking. [00:29:23] Speaker B: This is Matt's last Diet Coke. He has a couple mini diet cokes in his mini fridge upstairs. I took it. Matt, don't tell anyone. You got to watch the episode to find out who took your last one. It was me. [00:29:38] Speaker A: I should have brought the new bubbler flavor. But that's a different story. [00:29:41] Speaker B: So when it comes to now, let's move on from conference. That's pretty much the highlights of that regionals. [00:29:49] Speaker A: Yes. [00:29:49] Speaker B: It's really matched up well with the women's seating. There is no reseeding in a tournament for regionals. So if you are the five. So we are the four seed for men's and women's. It doesn't matter if the 6 seed wins or not. For women's there is no 16, but for men's there is. So if Moody. Moody Bible Institute being or ranked sixth, they will play Grace which is ranked two. Even if Moody wins and pulls off the upset, we Adamas, if we win against Maranatha, we will still play the one seed, not the lower seed in the next round. So there's no receding. And so how. How it's seated. Everybody is Emmaus will play against Maranatha as the four and five seed. Emmaus being four, Maranatha being five. And the winner of that game will play Great Lakes no matter what. And then on the other side of the bracket, Moody against Grace being Grace being the two seed, Moody being the six seed, winner of that game will play the winner of the Great Lakes and game. [00:30:53] Speaker A: Yes. [00:30:54] Speaker B: So whoever Great Lakes plays then they'll play the winner. So. Yeah. So, I mean, I guess Moody has an easy road if they. All they got to do is beat. They don't really have an easy road, but all they gotta do is beat Grace and they play less games. Yeah, but that's kind of crazy to think about that. [00:31:08] Speaker A: Yeah, absolutely. [00:31:09] Speaker B: So, again, same thing falls with the men's team playing against Maranatha Third time this season. [00:31:15] Speaker A: Yep. [00:31:15] Speaker B: Maranatha has. Marinath is a team that has our number. Jenna. [00:31:19] Speaker A: Yes. [00:31:20] Speaker B: They all, like, it doesn't matter what the. What the stats are this year. Doesn't matter what the. The. The roster is compared player to player. Maranatha has Emmaus's number all the time, and they match up very well. And it's going to be a very competitive game. [00:31:40] Speaker A: Yeah. And for both men's and women's, too. Like, both games have been so competitive and such high level of power and energy. Like, it has been so fun to, like, even just watch and play in those games. Like, I have loved playing against Marine athlete. They have been so fun. Sure. I. I'm a very competitive person. My dad can attest to this. And, like, playing against Maranatha brings out my competitive side. But the end of the day being like, it's a game, and we're ultimately just glorifying Christ in all that we do. So. [00:32:09] Speaker B: And I love that. And that's something that we want here at a mass is to represent Christ. So we'll play against Maranatha. That will be a really tough game. Just a really tough game. And hopefully we can honor Crash on the court, get a. Get a win and move on to play Grace and see what we're able to do. Something to keep in mind, those injuries from last week are still issue for our men's team. Today. We have six injured on the team, some more severe than others will shaking his head and disappointment in the back. [00:32:36] Speaker A: Believe me, I'm doing that right now. But just internally, it's just really sad. [00:32:40] Speaker B: To see this talented team be so shaken up and injured this late in the season. Yeah. At a crucial, critical time. [00:32:47] Speaker A: Very. [00:32:48] Speaker B: So hopefully they're able to rest up, stretch those legs on the bus ride to Michigan. [00:32:52] Speaker A: I don't know if you can really stretch in a vehicle, but I digress. [00:32:56] Speaker B: Maybe eat carrots like coach Parker. He loves his baby carrots. And pull out a win. You know, maybe get to the championship play Grace or Moody would love that, but they got to make it past Maranatha first. So they will be playing Maranatha on Friday, I believe. Yes. Friday at 7pm Eastern Time. [00:33:17] Speaker A: So that is 6pm Our time. [00:33:19] Speaker B: Yes. So 7pm Eastern Time, 6pm Central Time. Emmaus against Maranatha. You can find the game the same way you would find the women's game, either on the N double C double A website or Great Lakes YouTube or athletic page. And then also just keeping in touch with Emmaus's social media. You should be able to find it. But again, no receding. We'll see what the men and the women are able to do this weekend. But this will be it for a winter sports coming to a close. [00:33:49] Speaker A: This is crazy. [00:33:50] Speaker B: It's exciting. Hopefully the men and the women can pull off some upsets, pull off some wins. I remember a couple years ago when the men's went on their Cinderella run. Yes. I was at a conference, which I'm gonna be at that same conference this weekend. And it was crazy. Like. Like the conference actually put it up on the. The big screen before the message and everyone was cheering on Emmaus. I was. [00:34:13] Speaker A: I love that. [00:34:14] Speaker B: At that conference. You were there. [00:34:15] Speaker A: I remember that. [00:34:15] Speaker B: Yeah. Wasn't that cool? That was awesome. [00:34:17] Speaker A: I love that. That's fantastic. [00:34:18] Speaker B: It was so. It was. It was a conference at a church and the church is really close to Emmaus, so a lot of Emmaus grads that attend that church. But yeah, super fun. They won it all. Or they won. Yeah, they won regionals, which is I think our only regional win. Second regional win, but I think it is our only. Yeah. Second. I think it's our second. [00:34:42] Speaker A: Yeah. I've been here for all of that. I have not. [00:34:45] Speaker B: So it'd be cool to get another one. Bring home a banner, guys. That's what we want. Go. But the men and the women. Women need to clean up the turnovers. But it's going to be tough with depth. [00:34:57] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:34:58] Speaker B: And the men honestly, just really pushing past injuries. [00:35:02] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:35:02] Speaker B: And not Live or die by the three. That has kind of been the model for the men this year. Live and die by the three. [00:35:08] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:35:08] Speaker B: Really showed in a lot of the games. They lose all you have. [00:35:11] Speaker A: I know it sounds. It sounds simpler than it may seem, especially in a men's game. It's just like shot, fake and drive is like when you drive the lane and the defense collapse on you. You can easily chuck it out to get like a much cleaner and much more settled and. And in control three. [00:35:27] Speaker B: Yep. [00:35:28] Speaker A: If you find like Collier or Tatum or Nash, like, you can find them if they're settled and in control, they can knock that. [00:35:35] Speaker B: Or Eli Or Will or Josh mostly. [00:35:38] Speaker A: Absolutely. [00:35:38] Speaker B: Those are our sharks. [00:35:39] Speaker A: I apologize for getting them because those. [00:35:40] Speaker B: Are our sharpshooters on the team. And that's the thing I've been saying to Matt all season to some of the guys is they are a team that can drive. Yes. They choose not to. Of course. Some. I mean, we don't have the big in the paint like we did when Tyrus was here. [00:35:58] Speaker A: Yes. [00:35:59] Speaker B: But it don't matter. You know, we have a team that can shoot the three. [00:36:04] Speaker A: Yes. [00:36:04] Speaker B: But people forget about us in the paint. So this is the game. This is the weekend to finally drive in the pace because everyone's expecting us to make the threes. To go for the three. The threes first on the men's side of things. But we'll see what they can pull off. Obviously, we've had. We've had a good track record this year against Maranatha, but Maranatha's got a good poster board to put up in their locker rooms and have a lot of reason to play hard. [00:36:32] Speaker A: Yes. Because they have nothing to lose and everything to gain. Especially playing against us 100. Especially with them being so close to us too. [00:36:39] Speaker B: I know. I mean, I would if I. I think any player would agree to this. Is that they would rather lose to a team twice in the regular season just to beat them in the tournament. [00:36:49] Speaker A: Yes. [00:36:49] Speaker B: I think any. Any player would do that. Obviously you would move on in a tournament. So. Yeah. Well, pray for the team. [00:36:57] Speaker A: Yes. [00:36:57] Speaker B: Support them. Listen in. Watch the live stream. Keep in touch. We appreciate you guys for listening. Jenna, thank you so much for being here today. [00:37:05] Speaker A: Thank you for having me. And I will say I have definitely enjoyed my time at a May as both academically and athletically as well. So if anyone out there that is a high school student like junior or senior year wanting to think of a college that is Christian based and like it's so Christ centered in every single major where you will grow inside and outside of the classroom with your professors. And if you want to join a team that is so Christ centered in a family, come to a maze. I know he did not pay me to do this. This is all my own words and other things. But I have loved my time at Emmaus and I still cannot believe that we're wrapping up in within a few months. [00:37:48] Speaker B: I know. And it's just starting to get fun. [00:37:50] Speaker A: I know. [00:37:51] Speaker B: Just starting to get fun. [00:37:52] Speaker A: But. Yeah. But thank you, family. [00:37:54] Speaker B: Thank you for that. I appreciate that. I think everyone else does as well. But it's been fun. Thank you for making this part of your day, everybody. And I got nothing else for you other than it's a great day to be an eagle. [00:38:07] Speaker A: Amen, brother. [00:38:08] Speaker B: See you next week.
