Episode Transcript
[00:00:10] Speaker A: And welcome back, ladies and gentlemen, to in the Nest, the Emmaus Athletic podcast. I'm your co host, Shane Douglas, here with my trusted co partner, Matthew Thomason. Budy, how you doing today?
[00:00:23] Speaker B: I'm doing good. How are you?
[00:00:25] Speaker A: Well, we've wrapped back our mascot again. Still don't have any names. I haven't heard anything.
[00:00:29] Speaker B: I didn't hear anything from anyone. This people couldn't think of any names.
[00:00:33] Speaker A: Like, I'm very.
Whoever comes up with a name that Matt and I like the most will get a free coffee bean drink from us.
[00:00:42] Speaker B: So, Kevin, I'm waiting for you to text me a name for.
[00:00:46] Speaker A: I'm waiting for more of the students to come up to us and be like, oh, here's a name. Here's a name. But maybe they just don't remember or no one listens. Maybe that's. Yeah, but darn it. Along with our trusted Cocoa partner right here, we have another thing to kind of address. But without addressing a milestone.
[00:01:06] Speaker B: Yeah, just going to leave it there.
[00:01:08] Speaker A: Will, can. You can see that, Will. All right, so just a milestone. Just wanted to really point it out.
[00:01:13] Speaker B: Pat ourselves on the.
[00:01:15] Speaker A: That we did. Well, last episode of Not Mentioning.
[00:01:20] Speaker B: That was a close one.
[00:01:22] Speaker A: That was really close.
[00:01:23] Speaker B: That was bad. Oh, man.
Just said the name Karma almost got me tough.
[00:01:31] Speaker A: But moving on, every time I'm here, this is like the only time I'm not even going to get into it. Okay.
Because I want that number to go up. All right.
[00:01:44] Speaker B: Very far.
[00:01:44] Speaker A: Exactly. So we're going to have maybe a little shorter episode for you guys today, but a lot of good things happening. A little sad with fall sports closing, but today we're going to recap the end of fall sports with the national championship from cross country. And then we'll get into some basketball updates and highlights from this past week of the Games. They've played six games and then as well as upcoming game tonight against Marinatha.
[00:02:18] Speaker B: Yeah. And then Thanksgiving break.
[00:02:20] Speaker A: Exactly. So. Ooh, we need to talk about Thanksgiving a little bit. So maybe we'll talk about some Thanksgiving, some other fun stuff. But then also recap fall at the end.
[00:02:28] Speaker B: First we got to talk about currently it's the national championship tournament for both soccer and for volleyball.
[00:02:36] Speaker A: Oh, yeah.
[00:02:37] Speaker B: And I'm going to say that Pensacola is going to win for soccer and Bob Jones is going for volleyball. Ooh, those are my picks.
[00:02:45] Speaker A: I think those are easy picks.
[00:02:46] Speaker B: I know. I mean, they're both are clear cut number ones. Like, they're not going to lose.
[00:02:51] Speaker A: I like the Pensacola pick. They've been dominant the past couple know.
[00:02:56] Speaker B: And it's at home for too. So they always host it, which is super nice because they have very nice facilities down there.
[00:03:04] Speaker A: This is my prediction a little bit. Just real think.
Surprisingly, I think Calvary is going to make a run. They're in. Yeah, I think Calvary is going to make a run.
My prediction, and I kind of hope that, too. So it's a little to the heart. So I think Calvary is going to make the run, but it's going to eventually end up being Bob Jones. Marinatha and the championship.
[00:03:25] Speaker B: Well, Marinatha didn't make it, but they lost to.
[00:03:27] Speaker A: Yeah, yeah.
[00:03:28] Speaker B: I mean, the pool play because they've not Marinatha. I meant Manhattan or Manhattan. Yeah, there you go. The pool play for volleyball. Like both Pool A and Pool B is just crazy. There's so many good teams.
[00:03:39] Speaker A: It's true with soccer, but I get Marinatha and Manhattan always mixed up. When I'm trying to say marinatha, I say Manhattan.
[00:03:46] Speaker B: Marinahattan.
[00:03:47] Speaker A: So I think Manhattan Bob Jones. I would normally pick Bob Jones, but because you pick Bob Jones, I'm going to pick Manhattan.
[00:03:53] Speaker B: Coach Jenny is going to win her.
[00:03:54] Speaker A: Like, 15th national title, but either way, there's some good competition out there for volleyball.
But, yeah, I don't know, Pensacola, I feel like Will, they'll run away with it again, so maybe someone else can take it away. Did Kansas Christian make it?
[00:04:10] Speaker B: They did.
[00:04:11] Speaker A: Okay. Maybe they can do it.
[00:04:12] Speaker B: They won the central region, South Region.
[00:04:15] Speaker A: They've been good for the past forever, pretty much, but. All right, moving on, let's talk about Emmaus. EMEA Sports.
[00:04:23] Speaker B: All right, so, yes, we had the national championship race last week. So we had four runners representing Emmaus, two for the guys and two for the girls.
And this year, so I think guys ran first and then girls ran second.
[00:04:37] Speaker A: True.
[00:04:37] Speaker B: So beautiful. Sounds like it was a great event over there at Grace. Grace really knows how to put on an event because not to distract, but their basketball team is currently ranked second in all of NAIA, but they really know how to host an event. So guy runners. So Christian and Caleb really.
[00:04:57] Speaker A: Well, they.
[00:04:58] Speaker B: Hosted D One and D two for us.
[00:05:01] Speaker A: That's insane.
[00:05:02] Speaker B: I know it is. So Caleb finished 27th in the nation for the guys. He ran 33 or 31 58. And then Christian finished 45th for the guys and he finished 33 49. So Caleb was close to PR in from his time last year. And on the girls side, Kate finished top 25 this year again, which is awesome, but you don't win like an award. I think top ten got first female American, but she finished 22nd. She ran 22 55. And then Anna finished 20 eigth at 20 312. And so I think Grace is hosting the next couple of years, so it'll be nice. Like, are they really? I think so. Because it's like. Because I know for basketball or volleyball, it's like a three year rotation. I think that's what it was for cross country, because the last two years it was Ozark, and then I think at least the next couple years, it's going to be a grace. So it's nice that they got that experience.
Be familiar, because they didn't race there at all this. No, they didn't. They did.
[00:06:04] Speaker A: Ozark. Was it Ozark last year?
[00:06:07] Speaker B: Yeah, they raced at Ozark and then went back down there, but it was a different course. But at least they're familiar with the terrain and everything because I know they.
[00:06:15] Speaker A: Were studying the terrain pretty well, and they seemed pretty confident in what they could achieve there. And hopefully next year as they bring in some more talent that can push iron, sharpens iron. And I would love to see what this team can do next year with how they kind of took the campus by storm last year and how they really kept that momentum into this year, adding some more talented runners.
[00:06:37] Speaker B: Yes. And then before we go on, which Reminded me, which I should have written the name of the award down, which I didn't, so shame on me. But to go along with nationals, the national race, or the national championship for Soccer. Huge award that we got this year. Josh, Matt was named the 2023 Division Two men's soccer. Kyle wrote Junior Award recipient, which is basically like the NCCAAs. Like, each sport has one, it's different, named after different legendary coaches. And it's basically given to someone from each sport that represents the NCCAA and the King Chase scene. And, like, they're talented, but also they're an even better person. They're a servant. They support like, they do so many good things. So that's the first time in school history that someone from Maeus has won, basically, like the man of the Year. The man of the Year, essentially, for.
[00:07:39] Speaker A: In the NFL, which is really cool.
[00:07:41] Speaker B: And so shout out, Josh, man.
So great.
[00:07:44] Speaker A: I was talking to Josh at lunch, and what's really cool is that he mentioned this summer he wrote down a couple of his mile markers. He wants to hit some goals he wants to achieve in this soccer season. And within conference, he achieved most of them within his personal awards.
Same with regionals, but with the awards and more personal. He did write down this summer that he had a goal to win that award.
He said, that is an award that I would want to win.
[00:08:19] Speaker B: Wow.
[00:08:19] Speaker A: Not that he's like, oh, I'm a best person. Not saying that at all, but saying like, hey, this would be a really cool award to win.
[00:08:27] Speaker B: He's such a servant. He's such a great guy.
It's well deserved. He should have won it. And he did win it, and it's really cool at the end of the year. So when they have, I think it's in May or June, they have the athletic director convention, and then they will fly down the award winner from each sport in both D one and D two. And then they'll have someone will win the Person of the year between all sports. So he'll have an opportunity to win the Servants of the year, basically. So that's a huge recognition.
[00:09:00] Speaker A: Be the person.
[00:09:01] Speaker B: It's really cool. FirSt in Emmaus history and actually shout out Coach McHugh. It's his third person that he's coached that's won that award. Really?
[00:09:09] Speaker A: That's really cool, actually, because he had.
[00:09:10] Speaker B: Two guys at Moody that won it, and then now one at Emmaus.
[00:09:13] Speaker A: That's encouraging. That's really cool.
[00:09:14] Speaker B: Yeah. Huge accomplishments.
[00:09:17] Speaker A: So shout out to Josh, Matt, hit him up on social media if you want to congratulate him, but also shout out to cross country for a great season that you guys literally ran and looking forward to everything. Don't. I guess I had that coming. I was imagining the eagle soaring, but.
[00:09:35] Speaker B: Will, the eagle is waddling there.
[00:09:39] Speaker A: It is. But, yeah. So no cross country. Great season. Thanks for showing up. We appreciated your heart. The family, community that you have on the team, very encouraging and honestly, just very just.
[00:09:53] Speaker B: And they literally. So we're right back at it. Yesterday before our game, they were already out working for next year, which is like.
[00:10:00] Speaker A: That's insane.
[00:10:00] Speaker B: Yeah, I know, right?
[00:10:02] Speaker A: They have one of the most.
Underrated or not underrated. Yeah. Underrated family communities. Out of the sports teams, we always see what's going on with soccer and with volleyball, basketball, et cetera, and how they got a brotherhood, sisterhood, hanging out, having Bible studies, cross country.
They're doing that. But it's like, on a family level, they're legit, like having meals together. Not in the dining hall.
[00:10:28] Speaker B: No, in the cafe.
[00:10:29] Speaker A: So it's really cool to see that aspect and how that can pour into other areas on campus and other sports teams. So shout across country. Thank you for a great season.
[00:10:39] Speaker B: Thank you. Can't wait for next season that we're all done, man. It's crazy how fast the semester.
[00:10:43] Speaker A: Just like fall sports is easily my favorite sports season. The rest of them suck.
I'm joking. I'm joking. I'm joking, everyone. It got really quiet. I thought someone would say something. Goodness, it was so quiet.
[00:11:01] Speaker B: Trust me. We know, Shane. We know. With the amount of.
[00:11:05] Speaker A: Dude, don't even. You talk about volleyball all the time, man.
[00:11:08] Speaker B: I talk about all the sports, not just one.
[00:11:10] Speaker A: Oh, yeah, it's volleyball. It's only volleyball.
[00:11:12] Speaker B: Because you talk about soccer.
[00:11:13] Speaker A: No, because you talk about volleyball. Don't even. Gosh. I'm talking about cross country, dude, back on.
[00:11:18] Speaker B: I just talked about cross country.
[00:11:19] Speaker A: I'm talking about basketball. Let's get into basketball.
[00:11:21] Speaker B: All right. Let's talk about. Oh, yeah. This.
[00:11:24] Speaker A: Let's recap it.
[00:11:25] Speaker B: We had six games basketball.
[00:11:27] Speaker A: Six games, baby.
[00:11:28] Speaker B: Yeah, dog.
[00:11:29] Speaker A: We had the return of Tashar.
[00:11:32] Speaker B: No, that was two weeks ago. I know, but we did have that. And then we had Mitchell returning to.
[00:11:38] Speaker A: And then the return of Mitchell from. That's right.
[00:11:40] Speaker B: And then. Yeah. So last weekend, Friday, Saturday, we drove up to Minnesota, where FLBC Lutheran, Mitchell's home court, Bible and Hannah School, and Hannah's two hosted a four team, kind of, like, not tournament, but Medley relay. I don't know what you call those. Not round robin, because you don't play around, but, like, get together. I don't know. We'll probably edit this out later. But it was us, Faye.
[00:12:08] Speaker A: They won't.
[00:12:09] Speaker B: Providence from Canada. And then FLBCU hosted. Say that again.
[00:12:12] Speaker A: Did you say Canada?
[00:12:13] Speaker B: Canada. So Canadian. The Canadian team.
We never played Providence. No. I mean, barely. Barely.
[00:12:20] Speaker A: So it's fun when you guys can. Are able to.
[00:12:22] Speaker B: And they were on their revenge game for the guys because we had a game winning three against them last year.
[00:12:27] Speaker A: But do you think they remembered that?
[00:12:29] Speaker B: 100%.
Really? It was funny. The guys were like, it's so weird hearing people trash talking in a Canadian accent and in a French accent.
[00:12:38] Speaker A: Like, really?
[00:12:39] Speaker B: Yeah.
That's like, there's one guy that said, boom. In your face after you made a shot. But, yeah. So we played free Lutheran Bible School, which is a two year school up in Minnesota, which we have a academic agreement with, where they can go up there for one or two years, and then they can actually come and transfer to Emmaus and finish their degree here. And so we have two current students at Emmaus who are also both basketball players, and Hannah Boyer on the girls team and Mitchell Mar on the guys.
[00:13:07] Speaker A: Team, who have been good. Great. Massive impacts.
[00:13:10] Speaker B: Yes. Both athletically and for the community. And so it's kind of fun. They're able to go home and have, like you said, their homecoming. And so girls had a good game. I mean, this is what I say earlier.
I feel bad. Like, FLBC is obviously having a down year.
When I played, we always lost them because they were really good. Last year, FLBC Girls beat our girls, but this year our girls beat them 52 to 15.
[00:13:41] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:13:44] Speaker B: They'Re having a down year, both guys and girls, but they have a beautiful facility.
[00:13:49] Speaker A: What's really cool, though, is about that game. It really highlighted a lot of our girls and the talent that they have.
[00:13:56] Speaker B: Like Erin had a really good game and shout out to be. She's going to be really good.
[00:14:01] Speaker A: Yeah. I've only heard good things about Aaron.
[00:14:04] Speaker B: And what she was able fast, what.
[00:14:05] Speaker A: She was able to produce on the.
[00:14:07] Speaker B: Court during the home game played well. And then Anna Harwood is just reliable as ever. She goes out there and does her thing with points and rebounds. So they won 50 215 on Friday against FOBC, and then on Saturday they played Providence. And Providence does a thing where they have basically three teams. They have five, five and four. And then someone from the other team subs in and every 30 seconds they sub five in, five out, five and five out. And they press and they shoot threes. And it was actually really cool because again, knowing context, knowing where the girls were last year, they had a hard year last year. And when they played Providence last year, I think they lost by, like, they may have lost by 40. They might have had like 50 turnovers. This year, though, they ended up losing by, I think it was like 27, but they only had like 15 turnovers. So just knowing from the growth, the growth from last year, this year was like, wow, that's really cool. And obviously, province not take. I mean, they're really good, but. So it was just really cool to.
[00:15:10] Speaker A: See that they're playing it like hockey. Not the physical standard, maybe, but just.
[00:15:15] Speaker B: In and out the of.
[00:15:16] Speaker A: That's very uniquE. That's really cool to coach.
[00:15:19] Speaker B: Coach Joel does a good job there.
And then they played Mount Mary, which is an all girls Catholic school, on Tuesday, and they end up losing 75 53. But like we said, knowing from where they came from last year and how hard it was last season to this season, it's a pretty big jump. They're making good strides. I mean, right now we have three girls that are averaging over ten points a game. So Hannah is averaging twelve and a half points a game. And then Anna and Aaron are averaging ten points a game apiece. And so it's like, there's a lot of good things. I mean, they didn't have Abril over the weekend because she wasn't able to travel with all the student life stuff that was going on with Joel, so she wasn't available, so they only had six. But then she was able to play on Tuesday, which was a big.
[00:16:10] Speaker A: So, yeah, so Abril is a player that has been a great asset to the team in years. She received a blessing from the Lord of having a child.
[00:16:19] Speaker B: She had a knee injury that knocked her out two years ago, and then she got married, and then her and Joel had a child.
[00:16:26] Speaker A: Joel works on student life here. So Abril having a child, as well as her husband, being very involved in the community here and has been doing great stuff.
[00:16:35] Speaker B: Shout out to.
[00:16:38] Speaker A: Know. She obviously wasn't able to travel there, but she will be traveling tonight.
[00:16:41] Speaker B: Yeah. And so then she'll be leaving early for Taste of culture. And then Madam President, Madeline Wiese, who is our student body president, she didn't play last year because she tore ACL, so she's back, and so it's good to have some, you could say, veteran leadership back. And then once that rust comes off, be excited to see where they're at.
[00:17:03] Speaker A: And that's what we talked about last week of when we play Trinity is the rust. That's why, speaking of April and how she was able to walk into the game, she literally just had a child, like a year ago, and still she's.
[00:17:15] Speaker B: Recovering the basket doing spin moves.
[00:17:18] Speaker A: Exactly. It's so funny. Just like one of the first passes she caught and took a shot, three Pointer made it. It was just like, so cool.
[00:17:25] Speaker B: Never missed a beat.
[00:17:26] Speaker A: I know.
[00:17:27] Speaker B: Yeah. So that was cool. And, yeah. So then tonight the girls are up at Marinatha, and they play at four. And so keep an eye out for the box score tonight of how that game goes right now. Girls sitting at one and four in the year, which is crazy because they got one last year. I mean, it took 20 games last year before they got the first win. So things are on the uprise.
[00:17:48] Speaker A: I love hearing some of the basketball guys talking about the girls team, like, encouraging things of how they're very excited.
[00:17:55] Speaker B: Certain players have improved a lot from last year. That's been really cool to see.
[00:17:59] Speaker A: I mean, you mentioned, like, Aaron's name has been, like, flying around of someone to watch this year, of a freshman point guard who's super fast and not.
[00:18:08] Speaker B: Even a true point guard, but she's owning that role and she's doing well. It was great. Like, on Saturday, she had the ball and she had four province girls in front of her. She got a steal and she dribbled faster than they all four ran and made a layup.
[00:18:21] Speaker A: That's nuts. It's like, whoa, that's a head turner, right?
And then Hannah's doing Hannah things and then everyone else is falling into place.
[00:18:30] Speaker B: Having three girls that are averaging double digits, that's really good at our level. So it's nice to see that.
[00:18:37] Speaker A: I feel like where the basketball team is this year is very similar to where the volleyball team was last year and seeing if they can make that next step. Very similar to what the volleyball team.
[00:18:46] Speaker B: Did or a couple of pieces away from, like, doing.
[00:18:50] Speaker A: I'm really encouraged to see where this team goes and how they finish this year, how they grow as a team, because they had one of the best sisterhoods. You could argue last year with how tough the season was, how they always had a smile on their face, which.
[00:19:07] Speaker B: Is hard to do when you're. I mean, they had a 20 game losing streak, but they kept doing the right things and made a big run in conference and won two games and finished in fifth place, which is.
[00:19:18] Speaker A: That was really cool.
[00:19:19] Speaker B: Which is so cool. That was super cool.
[00:19:21] Speaker A: But moving on to some guys.
[00:19:25] Speaker B: So we had three games, obviously two. So we played FOBC last Friday. Mitchell's homecoming hunt, his home court. It was funny. The announcers were just everything. Mitchell this, Mitchell that, Mitchell this. And it was pretty cool. He had a good game. He had 28 points. That is good, which is really good. And we end up winning 78 23. So I feel bad because for them, because they're just having a down year.
[00:19:48] Speaker A: They've always been a program that has been circle that, circle that date because.
[00:19:53] Speaker B: Yeah, we did beat them last year, but yeah, I never beat them when I played because that's insane. I know, isn't it?
[00:19:59] Speaker A: That's strange.
[00:20:00] Speaker B: So it's just interesting to always have.
[00:20:01] Speaker A: A better record as a coach.
[00:20:02] Speaker B: I do. How some teams, how we talked about for soccer, some teams always have their moments and some will better, some will have good years and some will have bad years. And so they're just kind of in a down year.
So that was a good game. But then the next day we played Providence, which you said, revenge game from last year, because that's when Mitchell hit the game winning three on that.
[00:20:28] Speaker A: That was insane.
[00:20:29] Speaker B: And we started the game off pretty slow. I think they went up like 90. And then we just couldn't recover from the turnovers we had. I think we finished. These last two games have been rough, turnover wise, but we ended up losing 64 80.
We played really bad. We didn't shoot the ball well.
They are a good team. We just played really bad, in my opinion, and I think a lot of people know we're not shooting the ball to our potential. And that really showed that day. And not to have an excuse, but we played at 08:00 p.m. On Friday, and then we turned around and played at noon on Saturday. So it was a pretty quick turnaround.
[00:21:12] Speaker A: But then you also could argue for.
[00:21:14] Speaker B: Argue that Providence, because they played at four and they played it, would they play before they played faith?
[00:21:20] Speaker A: Okay, was that there?
[00:21:22] Speaker B: Yeah, it was mean.
I think we saw what we needed to do, and I think we were able to improve on that. On Tuesday, we played Moody. So first Midwest regional game, big game, big basketball and Moody.
[00:21:40] Speaker A: Not just it being a regional game.
[00:21:41] Speaker B: But it being Moody.
[00:21:42] Speaker A: Moody has always been kind of the bigger brother to Emmaus in the past years, for all you new Emmaus Eagle fans, Moody has always, like I said, they've always been a bigger brother of taking us by the neck, just throwing us around, bullying us.
[00:21:58] Speaker B: And that's because from 1946 to 1983, Emmaus and Moody were in the same city. And so it was always viewed as the crosstown rival. But then when we left Oak Park, Chicago, and moved down to Dubuque, we still view Moody as arrival, but I don't know if Moody views us as a rival.
[00:22:16] Speaker A: The athletes, definitely.
Okay, we'll take it. But recently, tides have turned.
[00:22:22] Speaker B: They have.
But, yeah, this Moody team is talented. They are a lot better than they were last year, and they've been playing. I mean, they had four games prior to ours, and they played all teams.
[00:22:36] Speaker A: Dang.
[00:22:37] Speaker B: So, like, that's. That's tough. That is tough. And so they played us, and they.
[00:22:40] Speaker A: Didn'T win any, did they?
[00:22:41] Speaker B: No, they were owing four against very stiff competition.
[00:22:46] Speaker A: Oh, yeah. But, yeah, Grace is number one in NaI. We'll talk about number two.
[00:22:51] Speaker B: Number two, Grace college, Indiana, one. Because I can't remember if they missed the National. Yeah, the Lancers, they have a really good program, but, yeah, so Moody, they're really talented.
And, man, our guys just toughed it out. They were super gritty.
I don't know how we won. I mean, I do know how we won, but we had 21 turnovers, and we started a game off with five turnovers in a row. Like, golly, we were so sloppy, but we won 89 80. Huge win for us. That puts us at two and three on the season. But, yeah, it just shows, like, as they say, shooting covers a multitude of basketball sins because we had 21 turnovers, and somehow we won by seven, which is crazy.
[00:23:45] Speaker A: You said it yourself, basketball is a simple sport.
[00:23:47] Speaker B: It's the sport. You score more points, the other team.
[00:23:49] Speaker A: Yeah. And you don't give up the ball.
[00:23:51] Speaker B: You don't give up the ball.
[00:23:52] Speaker A: That's like, the perfect game plan is you shoot the ball, you make the basket. You don't turn it over.
[00:23:59] Speaker B: You don't turn it over.
Like I said, we had 17 turnovers against Providence. We had 21 against Moody. But, hey, we're finding ways to win, and that's really important.
[00:24:10] Speaker A: And it's important for this team so early in the season to kind of go to have a matchup like this.
[00:24:16] Speaker B: Where they could easily was so physical. And honestly, we talked about it. The guys know if this was our team last year and we got punched in the face like we did against Moody to start the game, we would have folded and we would not have finished the game well. But that punch and turned it around and punched right back showed a lot.
[00:24:37] Speaker A: Of grit for this team.
[00:24:39] Speaker B: I was so proud of them. And so just to know, like, okay, we beat a good team and had this many mistakes. Now imagine if we cut those mistakes in half.
[00:24:49] Speaker A: Yeah. And make your free throws.
[00:24:50] Speaker B: And make your free throws.
That could almost be a 20 point win. And the fact we scored 89 points was awesome. So, yeah, a lot of great things happening. I'm excited for tonight. We play Marinatha at 06:00 p.m. That's going to a be good game, another regional win, which is with our rivals. So it should be a lot of fun.
[00:25:08] Speaker A: I feel like Marinatha is like. And Moody is her older brother. Marinatha is like, step brother.
I think that's good. That's a fair comparison.
[00:25:19] Speaker B: I think we'll have to see if their announcer mentions that on their live stream.
[00:25:25] Speaker A: Do you even think they watch this?
[00:25:26] Speaker B: I don't know. Who knows?
[00:25:28] Speaker A: I like the step brother thing. That's a know love.
[00:25:32] Speaker B: Us and faith are brothers. Us and Marinatha are step brothers.
[00:25:35] Speaker A: Yeah. And I think faith would agree to.
[00:25:37] Speaker B: That because faith definitely.
[00:25:39] Speaker A: They have that one thing every time. Marinatha. They beat Marinatha. That's really cool.
[00:25:42] Speaker B: I know. It's so funny. They beat Marinasa. They get casual day.
[00:25:46] Speaker A: That's awesome. We need to do so.
[00:25:47] Speaker B: Yeah. So two and three going into this game tonight, which should be a good game and then could give us momentum going to Christmas or Thanksgiving breaK. Excuse me. And then kind of looking at right now, I think this speaks volumes to our team right now.
Currently, Mitch is averaging 17 points a game, and then Nash and Zach, who both didn't play last year but are back on the team they played two years ago, didn't play last year but are back this year. Nash is averaging 14 a game and Zach's averaging ten A game.
And then I think Quan's at nine. So it's been cool to see that success and them impacting right away. Yeah.
[00:26:29] Speaker A: And I still think there's. We talk about rust. I still think the guys got the rust on them and then they'll be going into Thanksgiving break and fill up on some turkey.
[00:26:38] Speaker B: I know it's so hard because coach Parker and I always say.
We always say it's really like two seasons, it's first semester, because you don't do anything until October, and then you have October, November, Thanksgiving break, a few games in December, and then Christmas break for three weeks, and then it's back in the heart of conference play in January.
[00:26:59] Speaker A: And you can see how radical the change can be from the team first season to second semester to second semester.
[00:27:06] Speaker B: Oh, yeah.
[00:27:07] Speaker A: Because look at the regional championship team.
First semester was tough, second semester changed. It was great, and they figured things.
[00:27:19] Speaker B: Out at the very end. So, yeah, it really comes down to, like, you have to be playing your best basketball in March and the end of mean.
[00:27:27] Speaker A: I'm looking forward to the game tonight against Marinatha. Men's and women still got the rust on them, but looking at the men's team moving forward, they're just happy. There's more smiles on the team this year and you really can't talk about why because I don't know what the reasons would be, but they're just happier. You guys seem like more of a team, and I love that.
[00:27:52] Speaker B: Yeah, it's been really good. So I'm excited.
[00:27:54] Speaker A: So everyone's happy with each other. There's a lot more of sense of a brotherhood and trust with one another on the team, which is a big thing. And I think that's going to show in their maturity as well as on the field and off the court. On the court and off the court. Yeah, on and off the court.
[00:28:10] Speaker B: In the locker room, in the mezzanine.
[00:28:12] Speaker A: Boom.
[00:28:12] Speaker B: On the bench.
[00:28:14] Speaker A: So make sure to tune into tonight's game against Marinatha. The men's team and the women's Eagles team face the Saber cat.
It's going to be awesome to play our step brother in that competition.
Moving forward, we're going to end it in this podcast. We talked about everything. Good. So we're done. Just joking. We're going to talk about something.
Oh, that little dude. I was so confused.
[00:28:44] Speaker B: Like, wait a second.
[00:28:47] Speaker A: I'm done with you, man. Oh, my gosh.
[00:28:49] Speaker B: All right, whatever, Shane.
[00:28:50] Speaker A: That was cringey.
[00:28:52] Speaker B: Thumbs up.
[00:28:53] Speaker A: That's funny. Good job.
No, let's talk about real quick our favorite fall sports moment. Matt. So I didn't really have any time to really think about this.
[00:29:06] Speaker B: So you're going first? Oh, I'm going first. Okay.
[00:29:08] Speaker A: Yeah. What's your favorite fall?
[00:29:10] Speaker B: My favorite fall moment in Emmaus athletics for the fall season.
[00:29:15] Speaker A: Yes, sir. You can say multiple.
[00:29:16] Speaker B: Okay, well, first off, first of all, first off, it would have been the first soccer game of the year. That's all you talk about, beating Marinatha for the first time in school.
I mean, seriously, that was so cool.
[00:29:34] Speaker A: That was awesome.
[00:29:35] Speaker B: That was really cool. And then I think my other favorite moment would have been, I mean, just the growth between volleyball this year and last year, and just the national recognition they got, the regional recognition, the conference recognition, like having two players, first team, all region, having coach Hannah winning regional coach of the year. So I think I would say the first soccer game beating Marinatha for the first time in school history, five one.
The second one would be, which is a cop out, you could say. But it's, I think seeing the growth between improvements from this year to last.
[00:30:16] Speaker A: Year in volleyball, I will say I would totally agree with the soccer one. Not the first one on my head, surprisingly, or in my head, but thinking about, like, I think it was the first two soccer games of the season against. I think it was against.
[00:30:31] Speaker B: NOT Spurgeon Crown. The Spurgeon one was Marinatha Crown at Faith and Crown.
[00:30:37] Speaker A: Yeah. Crown was intense.
[00:30:39] Speaker B: The first Nationals, by the way.
[00:30:41] Speaker A: Yeah. Hey, I honestly want Crown to win. Yeah, I want Crown to win. They were cool. But no, I think the Marinatha game, hands down, probably one of my favorite moments, making that bold prediction and then. Not me. I didn't do anything. But then seeing it come through.
[00:30:58] Speaker B: You did make that prediction.
[00:30:59] Speaker A: Well, it's sad because we beat them. We tied them, we lost to them.
[00:31:03] Speaker B: I know. It's like we degree.
[00:31:05] Speaker A: We descended.
[00:31:08] Speaker B: We didn't have Christian either the second game or pretty much the first game. So anyway.
[00:31:12] Speaker A: But no, having that victory was awesome. The fans were there and it was just so electric. It was awesome. I also say almost all the home.
[00:31:22] Speaker B: Volleyball games, but agree especially the alumni weekend.
[00:31:25] Speaker A: They were so fun. Holy.
They were awesome. And there were some crazy rallies that we've shown on the podcast of Jenica making the Dive Saver. Standing there just six. Boom.
[00:31:40] Speaker B: Like six back and forth. Like, 1015 back leg crazy.
[00:31:44] Speaker A: I think there's no comparison between the two, and it doesn't have to deal with the name of the school, but one of my favorite memories or moments of this season is during alumni game when we lost in five sets to Marinatha or not. Yeah, the alumni weekend lost to Marinatha in five sets from a sweaty floor and momentum not being there. And then literally, like, a week later, we go to their place four days.
[00:32:07] Speaker B: Later, and we just win 30.
[00:32:09] Speaker A: Win 30.
That was really cool. That was really cool. It doesn't have to do with Marinetha. It could have been any team, but just the fact that we turned around so fast.
[00:32:17] Speaker B: Yeah. Losing in five to winning was awesome.
[00:32:20] Speaker A: Another favorite moment is talking to Caleb. Caleb Ness. And after Christian qualified for nationals, and how Caleb, he was proud of Christian, but he was also like, shoot, man, I can't let this freshman beat me. And then literally, the next race qualifies for nationals. So that's another favorite moment that I got, too, from this fall seasOn. But, yeah, fall season was really fun. I really enjoyed it. It honestly brought back a lot of memories. It brought back a lot of excitement of what? The fall.
[00:32:54] Speaker B: That's what we said all used to bring. The excitement is back. The vibe is back. Like, good, great things are happening.
[00:33:00] Speaker A: Yeah. So it was really fun to have those sports around and competing.
[00:33:04] Speaker B: Competing at a high level, too.
[00:33:06] Speaker A: They haven't competed like this for a while, and it's really awesome to have that. So thank you for all the fall sports athletes as well as the coaches. We know the hard work that you guys put into this season. So shout out to Gerardi. Shout out to Coach Megan, Coach Hannah.
[00:33:20] Speaker B: Shout out to Coach Parker, Coach Park, Coach McHugh.
[00:33:24] Speaker A: Are we counting?
[00:33:24] Speaker B: Coach Flores, Coach Rasmussen?
[00:33:26] Speaker A: I was just going fall sports coaches. But, I mean, she is a fall sports coach. Oh, yeah. Yeah. For volleyball. I was thinking Phil. Goodness.
[00:33:34] Speaker B: Anyway, he's winter sport.
[00:33:36] Speaker A: I know. I was so confused. Dude, either way.
[00:33:38] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:33:38] Speaker A: So shout out to all you guys, the managers, the players, everyone who put in hard work for the season. The fans, the parents, the grandparents, the friends, coming up, supporting us, watching this podcast, watching live, know, even all the way from Canada, you had the Mats watching. And sorry, that was when the live stream broke out. But they were able to watch the next game. Fortunately, really cool. So shout out to everyone, and we just are very thankful for this season and for you guys being involved and being a part of it with us. Before we go, Matt, what meal are you looking forward? Or what side are you looking forward to for Thanksgiving?
[00:34:14] Speaker B: Are you even having thing, as I said last year, which you told me that I was dumb. Stuffing. I didn't say you stuffing. Yeah, you said, what's my favorite dish last year? I said stuffing. You said stuffing. No, it's not ding dong.
[00:34:24] Speaker A: I didn't say ding dong. I don't say ding dong.
[00:34:27] Speaker B: Okay? This is like the commercial with, like, red flag.
[00:34:31] Speaker A: I didn't say ding dong.
[00:34:32] Speaker B: I'll say that.
[00:34:33] Speaker A: Stuffing is a basic one.
[00:34:35] Speaker B: That's like pumpkin spice when you have food allergies, like I do.
[00:34:39] Speaker A: I'm so sorry.
[00:34:40] Speaker B: I know.
[00:34:40] Speaker A: You should be working the kitchen, too.
[00:34:42] Speaker B: I'm sorry. It's stuffing and we do ham instead of turkey.
[00:34:49] Speaker A: I can't do that. I don't care if you hate turkey or not. We're having turkey.
[00:34:52] Speaker B: So stuffing and ham.
[00:34:54] Speaker A: I like stuffing. Stuffing's a good one.
[00:34:56] Speaker B: I don't know, Shane, what about you?
[00:34:58] Speaker A: I really like stuffing. I'm a ghost.
[00:35:00] Speaker B: Nice. Okay, here has this pumpkin pie or pecan pie.
[00:35:04] Speaker A: Oh, pumpkin pie.
[00:35:04] Speaker B: Sorry. Pecan pie. I'll go pumpkin, pumpkin pie.
[00:35:07] Speaker A: Because my fiance's family makes a great pumpkin pie. So homemade everything.
[00:35:12] Speaker B: Yum.
[00:35:13] Speaker A: So pumpkin all the way. What about you?
[00:35:15] Speaker B: Pecan.
[00:35:16] Speaker A: Can you even have pie?
[00:35:18] Speaker B: No.
[00:35:18] Speaker A: Do you want whipped cream on it?
[00:35:20] Speaker B: No.
[00:35:20] Speaker A: Why not?
[00:35:21] Speaker B: Because.
[00:35:21] Speaker A: Okay.
[00:35:22] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:35:22] Speaker A: Dairy. All right, everyone. Well, thank you for listening.
[00:35:26] Speaker B: Happy Thanksgiving. Yes.
[00:35:27] Speaker A: So very thankful.
We're very thankful for you guys in the fall, sports teams and everyone. And it just goes right into Thanksgiving. So we won't be back here next week. So enjoy the break, but make sure to tune in two weeks from now.

[00:36:00] Speaker B: Matt, it's a great day to become an eagle.
[00:36:02] Speaker A: Yes, sir. Happy Thanksgiving.
[00:36:03] Speaker B: Happy Thanksgiving. Shane.
