Episode Transcript
[00:00:00] Speaker A: Foreign.
[00:00:09] Speaker B: Your front row seats to Emmaus Athletics. I'm your co host Shane Douglas back with Matthew Tomlinson.
[00:00:15] Speaker A: Be back, be back. Man. It's been a hot minute, but we're back.
[00:00:18] Speaker B: We always, we always leave you guys hanging. You know, you're looking for an episode and then no episode comes and then.
[00:00:23] Speaker A: Here we are now 2026 is complete. We're here, we're back.
[00:00:28] Speaker B: Long break, very long break. Very cut off break, but very long for the students.
[00:00:33] Speaker A: I know this is week two of classes which is just crazy.
[00:00:36] Speaker B: Just started last Monday, right? Or like. Yeah, not like this week's Monday, but.
[00:00:40] Speaker A: Last Monday was Silva's day. So.
[00:00:42] Speaker B: But that's still super late into the school year historically, you know. But I think the students liked it. Yeah, hopefully if I was a student, I always told them if I was a student like nowadays with a month plus off, man, I would have been like traveling. I would have been like going on road trips with.
[00:00:57] Speaker A: That's what Claudius did or something.
[00:00:58] Speaker B: Yeah, yeah.
[00:00:59] Speaker A: Seven different countries.
[00:01:01] Speaker B: One of our current students in a soccer player, Claudius, he, he went all over. He traveled, he went to Colombia, I don't know, Ecuador, other places, Switzerland, Germany from. So. But how was your break, buddy?
[00:01:15] Speaker A: It was good. It was long stayed here though, which was nice. And then as you know, we were right back at it. Went to a conference right off the bat. And then like already we've had our, we've had what, seven basketball games since.
[00:01:30] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:01:30] Speaker A: This semester already. But no, it was good, it was refreshing. What about your Shane?
[00:01:34] Speaker B: It's good. We're blessed to, to be working here and like get a week off of work. You know some people, most people in, in the working world, they only get, you know, maybe even they get Christmas day off. Maybe Christmas Eve sometimes maybe the day after Christmas pending like what. Whatever day it is. But. Or when it falls back to work on the 26th. Like yeah, right back to work. So it was good that it was fun and I'm thankful to have a week off like you said, right back to work. So it's been chill. We traveled a lot at the very beginning of January for our, for our jobs. And basketball started pretty early too in January, which we're going to get into. And then now kind of a nice little chill season. Trying to go to just continue working enrollment. Tell people about Emmaus waiting for March to come around for.
[00:02:17] Speaker A: Waiting for these schools to get back to us.
[00:02:19] Speaker B: Exactly. Visit them. Crazy, crazy season happened in March. We got Discovery Mace weekend happening. So conferences, if you know anybody who is not just an athlete, but somebody who's interested in. Interested in Emmaus. We would love to have you come onto our campus.
[00:02:32] Speaker A: High school sophomore, junior, senior or graduate.
[00:02:35] Speaker B: Yep. Experience for yourself. Go to classes. Good excuse to get away from school no matter if you're home schooled. Public school to private schooled.
Great excuse to get away.
Be encouraging the word of God at the least. You know, that's the. That's like worst case scenario. You get to study the Bible, you.
[00:02:53] Speaker A: Go to chapel, you get a great message. You get to go have a great worship concert together. Like it's a great time.
[00:02:59] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:02:59] Speaker A: And a great place to see a great time. Also to be like, do I want to be a college student? Is this what it's like at Emmaus? You get to see both of those.
[00:03:07] Speaker B: So shameless plug of Emmaus. But it is Emmaus.
[00:03:11] Speaker A: Edu backslash.
[00:03:12] Speaker B: D E W Still plugging. It's basketball season, Matt.
[00:03:16] Speaker A: Shane. It is basketball. We got a season.
[00:03:18] Speaker B: We're like off a break. We're got to get the, you know, the, the crusties out of your eyes. Open up your eyes. It's still Emmaus athletic season. We have women's basketball going on. Men's basketball going on today. We have spirit week. We're. We'll talk more about that later.
Jersey day. So representing our.
Our teams. He's not a Nuggets fan.
[00:03:40] Speaker A: Was wearing just like yic so I just wore it.
[00:03:42] Speaker B: He was wearing a Lakers jersey earlier.
[00:03:43] Speaker A: I was wearing a Lakers jersey earlier.
[00:03:45] Speaker B: I've been wearing my Chargers jersey all day.
[00:03:49] Speaker A: All day.
[00:03:49] Speaker B: Y. Well, kind of.
[00:03:51] Speaker A: I'm joking.
[00:03:51] Speaker B: Yeah. So I have. I didn't.
[00:03:53] Speaker A: Just. Good. It was good to see all the students out today. Even Will has a jersey on over there. But see all the students wearing kind of fun, random jerseys. Like so some random players. You're like, oh, that's actually like really cool. Yeah. We had hockey, mls. We had what? Some European soccer. We had baseball, football, basketball.
[00:04:14] Speaker B: Aaron McKenna for the women's basketball team wearing a Jordy Nelson Raiders jersey.
[00:04:19] Speaker A: It was Jordy Nelson.
[00:04:19] Speaker B: Jordy Nelson Raiders jersey.
[00:04:22] Speaker A: Said her mom's a Raiders fan, so she was rocking it.
[00:04:24] Speaker B: Shout out Deb.
And speaking of women's basketball.
[00:04:28] Speaker A: Shout out Deb.
[00:04:29] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:04:29] Speaker A: Women's basketball, man. Shane, what semester. What a year so far that they're having. It's been.
[00:04:37] Speaker B: It's been a big turnout.
[00:04:38] Speaker A: It's been a big turnout. It's been really cool to see this season. Obviously. Coming into break, Maddie west was a super senior again. Finished her last Semester and then fill in was Marina Kek, our new student, our grad student, the master's program who joined the team.
[00:04:56] Speaker B: Great addition.
[00:04:57] Speaker A: Yeah, a fantastic addition to the team.
But it's been, it's been a fun semester.
Obviously this team has been, it's small and they've been, they've dealt with some injuries, some pretty significant injuries but you know, the next man up or next woman up mentality strikes and they have been pretty successful in that. I mean they're 8 and 5 this semester or this season I should say.
And Shane, this week they received top 10 votes in the nation which is crazy awesome. Top 10 votes in the nation for women's basketball which hasn't happened since 2019.
[00:05:33] Speaker B: That's why it's crazy. It's because it hasn't happened in a while. The, the shift of, of competitiveness from last year to this year. Just kind of crazy that it was a one year gap and this women's team is pushing for a national.
[00:05:45] Speaker A: Well it shows like when you have great basketball players regardless of if you have five or 15, like you're in a great position. And this is all without know with missing Amelia, our best player who's been out for the last like four or five games with sickness and then without Hannah for the, you know, for the last several games with her knee injury. And it's like it's really cool to see how Aubrey stepped up, how Rachel stepped up, how Aaron stepped up, how Marina has stepped up and well first she's come in and she's contributed right away like she had what a couple 20 point games right off the rip which is really cool including a game winner already against Central and then even Steven Leilani step in and Maria step in and the, you know, even Faith that came in for that one game, you know and I'm excited to see the success they've had but where they're, where they're going because we're going to get Sidney back, we're going to get Amelia back. There's a small chance that we might get Hannah back and like we say you don't want to peak too early but if all these pieces are coming back right at the right time when conference, when regionals comes around which oh by the way is on our home court like the, this women's team, they can make some serious noise.
[00:07:00] Speaker B: Shane, what's the Iowa State player? Audrey Cooks.
[00:07:04] Speaker A: Audrey Cooks Crooks.
[00:07:05] Speaker B: She, she had a quote a couple weeks ago when they were still undefeated of it doesn't matter about being hot right now it's about being hot at the end. Near March Madness for March and late February for those. Those schools are competing in Match Madness. But that's same thing goes for us here at our level is it doesn't matter about the injuries right now, but if we can recover, if we can get past this, this little bump in the road and make it to end of February, beginning of March, ready to compete at conference, at regionals, let's go make a push at Nationals. We have, we have a roster on paper, we have a roster that can push for a national run, get through regions, um, and shock. Shock a lot of people.
[00:07:50] Speaker A: This team legit could get there, could get to nationals.
[00:07:54] Speaker B: And like what you said, like just dealing with the injury bug, dealing with the sickness bug, it stinks, you know, and it stinks like. And I, it's funny because I'm wearing a Chargers jersey today. And we've. We've been known in the previous years of us always having an injury bug. There's always. Even our quarterback is labeled the if. If quarterback. If you had an offensive line that was healthy. If you had a line. Yeah, like, exactly. Like there's nobody blocking for him. And I think that's a, like, that's a mentality for that. You have to ask yourself in the season when there's injuries like you. You bring in the if at the end of the season. But we don't want our season to end that way. We don't want our. The. Our women don't want to look back at this season say if we were all healthy.
[00:08:38] Speaker A: But that's the crazy thing is if.
[00:08:40] Speaker B: I tried more in the game, if.
[00:08:41] Speaker A: They'Re healthy, but they're still winning game after game after game after game while not being healthy.
[00:08:46] Speaker B: But, but so like, what I'm saying is we got to focus on recovery. We got to focus on getting better. And I love what coach Canard has done this season in not just. We saw his st.
Strategic expertise last year and putting. Putting the women in the right spot during the game, having the right play calls and schemes and strategy all together. And this year we've seen that uh be elevated but also in a sense of uh, pouring into the players and, and having help helping them grow and become better players. We see that with Leilani freshman this year, not a lot of basketball experience prior coming in this year and really.
[00:09:26] Speaker A: Getting into hold their own against some tough competition.
[00:09:30] Speaker B: Exactly. So you see that character development, the player development, more importantly that Cody's focused on. Focused on this year. And I don't know if that was one of his, his key interests or maybe even something he was really focusing in this year. But it has, it's been happening.
Players have been developing. You have, Bless you. Yeah. Will keep it down. But players have been developing. It's really cool to see the team come together even through and the talent that's come in.
[00:09:54] Speaker A: Yeah, it has come in and just they've, they've made an impact and even look at like this year compared to last year, like, they're third in the nation in scoring and like last year couldn't score.
[00:10:04] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:10:04] Speaker A: And it's just like that's really cool. Like for example, like Amelia, she's fifth in the nation in scoring and third in assists.
[00:10:11] Speaker B: Yeah. Yeah.
[00:10:12] Speaker A: That's crazy. When you're fifth in scoring and third and assist, you are creating a lot of offense.
[00:10:17] Speaker B: Oh, yeah.
[00:10:18] Speaker A: And then obviously miss reliable double double Rachel, first in the nation in rebounds again. First in the nation in blocks.
[00:10:25] Speaker B: Come on.
[00:10:26] Speaker A: Again.
[00:10:26] Speaker B: Like, it's not new.
[00:10:27] Speaker A: It's not new. Like she's been doing this. Stop driving against Rachel. She's going to block you. She had seven blocks the other game.
[00:10:34] Speaker B: She's been doing this.
[00:10:34] Speaker A: She's been doing this.
[00:10:35] Speaker B: This ain't new.
[00:10:36] Speaker A: It's her.
[00:10:36] Speaker B: It's not even like we're not even. Will's not even pressing the ego button or getting excited.
[00:10:41] Speaker A: We don't need to because that's who she is.
[00:10:42] Speaker B: Cuz we're used to.
[00:10:44] Speaker A: Used to it.
[00:10:44] Speaker B: It's like it's a yawn. It's like we've been here before. Come on.
[00:10:47] Speaker A: Like, oh, she only had 14 rebounds.
[00:10:49] Speaker B: Barry Sanders giving the ball to the referee after he scores a touchdown. I've been here before.
[00:10:53] Speaker A: I've been here before.
[00:10:54] Speaker B: I've been here before. So nothing's new with Rachel.
[00:10:57] Speaker A: Right? So yeah, it's been great. Like, cuz like last year again, you know, different team. But last year like there was no leaderboard rankings and this year they're all over the leaderboard rankings. Like, I'm so excited to see these next three weeks as the regular season and with conference and regionals comes to an end and when postseason starts, like, man, I am excited, Shane, because these ladies. And it's really cool to see that the national audience or the national coaches have take. Have noticed that.
[00:11:27] Speaker B: True.
[00:11:28] Speaker A: And have given them votes for top 10 because they deserve it. They've been beating some good teams for sure.
[00:11:35] Speaker B: And at the end of the season it's. Or not even at the end of the season it's what you got to ask ourselves now, going back to that. That. The quote unquote, if. You know, the if mentality.
[00:11:44] Speaker A: If.
[00:11:44] Speaker B: Yeah, I think you. We got to ask ourselves now, our women's team, as we talk, as we're speaking about them right now, is do we want to fall into like our, our kind of our generational routine here at Emas Athletics with ending the season. Ending. Ending the season with all, all the questions, all the comments of if we handled that differently. If this happened, this happened. So the women need to ask themselves now as a team, do they want to respond that way, or are they going to end the season proud of how they put in all that effort that might not end with a national championship, and that is completely fine. But. And they can, they can end a season giving it them their all with what they have and not look back with an if. And going into. I don't know if you have more to add, but I think that just translates really well for our basketball men's team.
[00:12:35] Speaker A: But, I mean, this is both for both teams. But I was just talking another. I was telling another staff member earlier today, like on, especially at our level, like, you don't remember really the regular season, like if you had a successful regular season or if you had a not successful season. You remember what happens in postseason.
[00:12:53] Speaker B: Oh, yeah.
[00:12:53] Speaker A: Like, you think about the year that we won regionals. Forget the guys. Yeah, we had a terrible regular season, but we went at the end, we went and we won, what, seven of our last nine games to go to win regionals, to then make it to nationals. And you think back, like last year, last year we had like the greatest record, like the, the most successful record, the most wins we've ever had in our programs. History for men's basketball went 0 and 3.
[00:13:21] Speaker B: Nobody talks about it.
[00:13:22] Speaker A: No one.
[00:13:23] Speaker B: I'm on this podcast with you and you mentioned that a few weeks ago, and I'm like, did we really?
Did we really? Like, I don't remember. Yeah, like, you don't remember at 2018 soccer team, same thing. I broke tons of records all year.
[00:13:33] Speaker A: One of the best seasons ever in a man's soccer history.
[00:13:35] Speaker B: We even won conference.
[00:13:37] Speaker A: But nobody, no one remembers that because.
[00:13:39] Speaker B: Yeah, nobody looks back because we never made it past regionals.
[00:13:41] Speaker A: Yeah, exactly.
[00:13:41] Speaker B: And so never made it to nationals. We remember when you go to nationals, you remember all our volleyball team went to nationals this year. You know, our cross country team has gone.
[00:13:48] Speaker A: They've gone every year.
[00:13:49] Speaker B: Yeah, like three plus years. Right.
Our. Our men's basketball team went to Nationals randomly because, you know, they were able.
[00:13:57] Speaker A: To make it out there at the end.
[00:13:59] Speaker B: Yeah, they made that shift of. Let's not look back and ask ourselves if.
[00:14:03] Speaker A: Yeah. So you don't remember. Okay, what was the record that year? Yeah, you don't remember that because they made it to nationals. But yeah, with the guys team, with our men's team again, you know, as the women's have been dialing injuries, we've been battling injuries, which has been tough. It's been hard, especially with Collier going down, you know, our best player.
But I think there's been a lot of good things that we can take away.
We've kind of changed up a fair amount since the break and so we're trying to run some stuff differently. We're trying to put guys in different positions. But yeah, we're kind of in a. Kind of in a little bit of a skid right now, Shane. I mean, we're. We're 5 and 11 right now.
We just came off a tough game Tuesday night up in Chicago at Moody.
And again, like, you know, when you're not being successful, when you're not coming out with the win column, you know, a lot of internal things can start. You know, players can start going at players or players can start questioning things. But one thing that I'm super encouraged about and super thankful for is this is my, what, my 11th season being around mayest men's basketball teams and, and man, this group of guys, like, even though, like we're struggling and we're not playing to our ability, like we have the ability, we have the talent, we're just, we're just not there right now. I don't know if it's, if it's mental right now, just trying to get over that home. But like I said, this group of guys is sticking together.
They're continuing to elevate each other, lift each other up. They're not, you know, ripping each other down. They're not. They're not giving up. They're still putting one foot in front of the other and, you know, trying to get better. And that's been really cool to see. Like, there haven't been many teams that I've seen that have done that where, when you're, when you're in the lowest of the lows, you know, that really reveals who you are and what your character is.
And I've. It's been really encouraging to see the guys and their response. So hopefully, like we said, you know, we're in that valley. Hopefully we can start getting up that Hill just in time for the postseason, which is kind of like, you know, now that we're kind of like the underdogs, like, we get to play like the underdog, which kind of takes off a certain amount of pressure, but also like, you know, just go out there and play. Just go there and play basketball.
[00:16:14] Speaker B: I remember we were talking about the team after a decent start to the season, rocky middle ground. It's been really rocky this.
This semester for the start of the season. But I remember I was talking about how kind of this whole conversation, like what we were just talking about with the women's team, but everything you just. All. Everything you just said was just really encouraging and awesome. And it's like, play as the underdog. You know, they're going to get to the. They're going to get their opportunity at conference clip that.
They're going to get their opportunity to play at conference, at regionals. Right?
[00:16:51] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:16:52] Speaker B: And if you win conference. Right. Or if. Even if you win regionals, no one's going to remember that you just lost a Moody this year.
[00:16:59] Speaker A: Yeah. Right.
[00:17:00] Speaker B: You know, the few days ago.
[00:17:01] Speaker A: I will, but no one else will.
[00:17:03] Speaker B: Well, it don't matter.
Would you take a loss? Would you take a loss to Moody or would.
Would you rather lose?
[00:17:11] Speaker A: I don't like to lose.
[00:17:12] Speaker B: Oh, yeah. Would you rather beat Moody or win regionals?
[00:17:15] Speaker A: I would.
I would lose. I would lose to whoever if that meant we were beating. We were going to win regionals.
[00:17:21] Speaker B: Exactly. So that's what. That's. That's kind of like all what you say is.
[00:17:24] Speaker A: And so, yeah, excited to see, like, if we can, like, I think I know this group can because, like, again, this is a talented group. There are guys. We have talented guys on our team.
And if they can just figure it out and get over this hump, you know, great things are on the horizon.
[00:17:37] Speaker B: Look at the women's volleyball team. Yeah, they. They had a really rough middle.
[00:17:41] Speaker A: Everyone counted them out.
[00:17:42] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:17:42] Speaker A: Everyone thought that they weren't that good. And then they. I mean, they just playing tough competition and then they. They turn it up and won regionals for the first time ever and then went to nationals and won. Yep. So.
[00:17:54] Speaker B: Yep.
[00:17:55] Speaker A: Yep. So no, a lot of great things coming for Emmaus. Men's and women's basketball. We got some big games this upcoming weekend.
[00:18:03] Speaker B: Shane.
[00:18:03] Speaker A: Tomorrow, rivalry game. Aaron athlete comes to town.
[00:18:08] Speaker B: I got it circled. I got it.
[00:18:09] Speaker A: I got it circled. I do have it circled so this will be interesting. The men's team plays first.
[00:18:15] Speaker B: Oh.
[00:18:15] Speaker A: At 5pm followed by the women's game.
[00:18:18] Speaker B: At 7pm and this is Winterfest weekend, baby.
[00:18:21] Speaker A: Winterfest weekend.
[00:18:22] Speaker B: And then Saturday, if you know, you know.
[00:18:23] Speaker A: If you know, you know.
[00:18:24] Speaker B: We're not gonna explain it, but if you know, you know.
[00:18:26] Speaker A: So can't wait to figure out what the theme is. And then Saturday we play. I know everyone Nose. Just kidding.
[00:18:31] Speaker B: Does anyone know? Do you know it?
[00:18:32] Speaker A: Saturday we play Good Race Christian University.
I think It's. It's either 1 and 3 or 2 and 4. But it's two big regional games for both teams this weekend, so. And then Faith next. And then at Faith next. Next Tuesday.
[00:18:46] Speaker B: Hey, actually, like a pause.
Emmaus University didn't lose the moody. It was Emmaus Bible College.
[00:18:53] Speaker A: That's true. Because they had a mas. Bible College stuff up there. That's right. Yeah.
[00:18:57] Speaker B: Every time we. We. We still have a lot of opponents, especially if you're watching this. Please.
[00:19:03] Speaker A: And if you're an opponent, fix this.
[00:19:05] Speaker B: They'll put on the box score after the game, during the game, or even on the locker room for whenever our men's team or women's teams travel of Emmaus Bible College. Some.
[00:19:15] Speaker A: Speaking of listeners, I want to give a shout out to the Faith soccer team and both basketball teams that listens to the podcast.
[00:19:21] Speaker B: They typically only listen after we play them, but. Yeah, shout out to. Shout out to the Faith Baptist down there in Ankeny. Shout out to Noah Bloom. Quest stayed at his house the other weekend, you know, so cool guy. That's all I gotta say. Shout out to watch the Broncos. He's a Broncos fan. We watched Bo Nicks break his ankle, so he cried, so that's tough.
[00:19:44] Speaker A: Anyways, yeah, Winterfest. That'd be fun.
[00:19:47] Speaker B: Emmaus University Winterfest this weekend. Maranatha Grace Christian and then Faith next.
[00:19:54] Speaker A: Tuesday at Faith, and then the women's team competes for the Women's Cup.
[00:19:58] Speaker B: They've never had it.
[00:19:59] Speaker A: They've never had it. This is year two of it.
[00:20:01] Speaker B: So our women's team has never gotten. Has never won or earned the Women's cup against Faith. So we'll see if we can grab.
[00:20:10] Speaker A: That, which I can't remember what it's called. It's named after one of their longtime coaches.
[00:20:14] Speaker B: Theirs.
[00:20:15] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:20:15] Speaker B: Why? Why not, Art? Why not?
[00:20:16] Speaker A: She paid for it, so. Oh, yeah, you pay for something, you get your name.
[00:20:19] Speaker B: Well, let's take it.
[00:20:20] Speaker A: Let's take it.
[00:20:21] Speaker B: She's ours now, but. Yeah. Anything more to add for upcoming games or schedules for the listeners to look out to for our men's and women's.
[00:20:32] Speaker A: Basketball Teams, thank you for all the support. We've had a good number of parents and fans that have come to both home and away, so that's super encouraging. It means a lot to our players.
It's just we're excited to see rest of the season goes and definitely excited to watch this women's team play. And our, and our team, once we figure, once our men's team figures it.
[00:20:52] Speaker B: Out, it's always awesome when our parents, you know, cross sports.
[00:20:57] Speaker A: Yes.
[00:20:57] Speaker B: Right. So like when we have volleyball parents going to basketball games or soccer games and vice versa. It's awesome. Love that. Love the Eagle pride. The Eagle spirit man. Wings up right, Eagle nation.
Hashtag Shane helped. But all right, so that's right.
[00:21:16] Speaker A: You know, you know, if, you know, you know. Fast break time.
[00:21:18] Speaker B: Fast break, will. Yes.
[00:21:20] Speaker A: We haven't had one in so long.
[00:21:22] Speaker B: I live for this, man. Some people wake up in the morning and they all they think about is putting in some coffee. No. Oh. All they need is coffee for the day. To live off that. They need their four shots of espresso or whatever they drinking. I live off fast break.
[00:21:36] Speaker A: What's wrong? What's wrong with my. With me? With me?
[00:21:38] Speaker B: You drink disgusting coffee.
[00:21:40] Speaker A: I don't drink coffee. I don't drink fruit. Free water down coffee.
[00:21:43] Speaker B: That's what you drink is water down coffee. Americana.
What are you talking about, dude? Goodness gracious.
[00:21:49] Speaker A: Anyway, this is a fun fast break.
[00:21:51] Speaker B: I don't drink water.
You spilled it on jj.
[00:21:54] Speaker A: I did a shout out doctor rally.
[00:21:56] Speaker B: A little crazy. We get excited for fast breaks.
[00:21:58] Speaker A: We do get fast break. But this is a fun one. Shane.
[00:22:00] Speaker B: Yes. We were think, sitting here wondering, like, what do we do for a fast break? And Matt had a great idea.
[00:22:04] Speaker A: I did tell them. All right, so for fast break, Shane and I are going to figure out our starting five for basketball.
Emmaus Professors Edition.
[00:22:16] Speaker B: Faculty, faculty and professors. Do we include the cabinet?
[00:22:19] Speaker A: I mean, technically they stand up there.
No, because I don't want to offend anyone with their basketball skills.
[00:22:27] Speaker B: Wait, I don't care.
You kidding me? Like, but no, what we're going to.
[00:22:31] Speaker A: Do is we're going to talk about faculty and then we're going to talk about staff. Maybe, maybe potentially. But we're looking at our faculty starting.
[00:22:39] Speaker B: Team five or faculty team. I want, I feel like if we would add, like speaking of the cabinet, like if we add President. Boom. I feel like he want to come up to us and thank us. Hey, thanks for including me in the starting five. I've been really looking forward to being an all pro mas Faculty starting five. In the ness version. No, he would probably say, why did you include me?
[00:22:57] Speaker A: Right?
[00:22:58] Speaker B: Never, never, never. Add me to a start.
[00:23:00] Speaker A: Question is President Boom. Do you listen? We'll find out. We'll find out tomorrow.
[00:23:04] Speaker B: We've said his name more now than ever before, so.
[00:23:07] Speaker A: Joe Shane. Okay, so, okay. Faculty starting five.
[00:23:10] Speaker B: Okay, what do we. What do we got? Who's, like. I think we both agree with our number one.
[00:23:14] Speaker A: Yeah, number one would be Reagan Banaski.
[00:23:17] Speaker B: I would say probably Professor Banaski for educational ministries. Helps out with the ICS department. Also for. For teaching classes.
[00:23:24] Speaker A: Glad that he's back. Took was off for his sabbatical for a semester, but he's back. I would say he is our three. Okay, I'll put him at our three.
[00:23:34] Speaker B: Dude, I don't know who you're gonna put at one.
[00:23:37] Speaker A: At a point guard.
[00:23:38] Speaker B: Who's a point guard? Who's our point.
[00:23:39] Speaker A: Who would our point guard be?
[00:23:41] Speaker B: Here's a question. Does Mr. Iverson coach?
[00:23:44] Speaker A: I think Coach Iverson does coach, because, I mean, he coached for so long. So coach is our coach.
[00:23:49] Speaker B: Shout out to. He was on podcast. So shout out to Iverson.
[00:23:51] Speaker A: Yeah, shout out to.
[00:23:52] Speaker B: Who else? Let's look at the.
[00:23:54] Speaker A: Okay, so who do we got? I mean, o. Okay, so we have, like, we got Mike Eels. We got Mike.
[00:23:59] Speaker B: Professor Mike Eels. Bible department.
[00:24:00] Speaker A: Yeah, he could be out there.
[00:24:02] Speaker B: You want him point guard for Mike.
[00:24:04] Speaker A: Mike is the point guard. Yeah, Mike. Mike. Mike's a pretty good passer. Yeah, he's a. He's a pass first point guard.
[00:24:10] Speaker B: Do we give them time to train, like. Or is this just like. They gotta like.
[00:24:13] Speaker A: No, this is like. All right, roll call. You, five, go.
[00:24:16] Speaker B: Dang. This is gonna be rough. I feel like you give these guys six months, Reagan's ready.
[00:24:20] Speaker A: But the rest of Reagan could run laps around everyone even. Yeah, Mike at the one. We have Reagan at the three.
[00:24:27] Speaker B: Okay, who's the two?
[00:24:29] Speaker A: Ooh, if prime. Dr. Broussard.
[00:24:32] Speaker B: Oh, we ain't putting him out there right now, though.
[00:24:35] Speaker A: No, we know we can't.
[00:24:36] Speaker B: We're talking about right now.
[00:24:38] Speaker A: He's prime. He's the second coach. Prime. If you prime Dr. Broussard, he's at the four.
[00:24:42] Speaker B: Yeah. Yeah, but we're not.
[00:24:44] Speaker A: But we're not doctor, in case you know. Dr. Broussard is our counseling psychology professor, and he was a Division 1 referee for many years.
[00:24:52] Speaker B: Yeah, he knows ball.
[00:24:53] Speaker A: So he does know ball.
[00:24:54] Speaker B: Love talking to him about March Madness.
[00:24:56] Speaker A: He'll.
[00:24:56] Speaker B: He's an assistant Coach next to Iverson or he's the ref.
[00:24:59] Speaker A: Or is the right.
[00:25:00] Speaker B: He could be.
[00:25:00] Speaker A: He could be the ref. He could be the ref.
[00:25:02] Speaker B: We also have. We got to put Fish out there.
[00:25:05] Speaker A: I mean, yeah, I mean, I mean, yeah.
[00:25:07] Speaker B: I mean he, Fisher, McLeod.
[00:25:08] Speaker A: We got Dr.
[00:25:09] Speaker B: Fish.
[00:25:09] Speaker A: Could be the two. Dr. Fish, who's been our longest tenured faculty member. I feel like he's still got the eighth year teaching Bible at Emmaus.
[00:25:17] Speaker B: If you let him have a bicycle.
[00:25:18] Speaker A: Bible, college, Bible or university.
[00:25:21] Speaker B: If you let him get a bicycle. A bicycle. Bicycle on the court. He's got it, man.
[00:25:26] Speaker A: But he was also. And he also coached soccer for a while. Yeah. So I'd say yeah, we can put Dr. Fish out.
[00:25:29] Speaker B: Maybe like honestly think about it. Who are we disappointing? Anyone.
[00:25:33] Speaker A: Not including Dr. Elliot for our computer programs. I'd put him at the 4 because he's tall.
[00:25:38] Speaker B: He is tall.
[00:25:38] Speaker A: He is pretty tall.
[00:25:39] Speaker B: Okay, let's think about this. We have Chris Rush.
[00:25:42] Speaker A: We do.
[00:25:43] Speaker B: We have John Jimmo, Manny.
[00:25:44] Speaker A: Ooh, Mr. Jimmo would be decent. One.
[00:25:47] Speaker B: He could be a three or two.
[00:25:48] Speaker A: We have. Yeah, he could be Dr. Jimo. Could be.
[00:25:51] Speaker B: I think he'd be more of like a defensive specialist. I don't know if he can produce on offense.
[00:25:55] Speaker A: That's true.
[00:25:56] Speaker B: I've never seen him play.
[00:25:58] Speaker A: I've seen him play volleyball.
[00:25:59] Speaker B: Cozen.
[00:26:00] Speaker A: Yes, Mr. Cozen.
[00:26:02] Speaker B: Jack Fisher on the bench.
[00:26:03] Speaker A: CO. You're the two. Mr. Coen's the two. Jack Fish, Mr. Koen, also Bible faculty. This is who is retiring after this year. But he is a. Is it four time Wally ball dude? He's an interreal champion.
[00:26:16] Speaker B: He is.
[00:26:17] Speaker A: He's that engineering mind.
[00:26:18] Speaker B: Oh, geez. OG he is like you should be drafting him number one for intramurals when it comes to volleyball sometimes. Volleyball sometimes.
[00:26:26] Speaker A: You know.
[00:26:27] Speaker B: Okay, what about Jeff Riley?
[00:26:28] Speaker A: We could do Jeff. You know who. You know who his sleeper is. Mrs. Pape.
[00:26:33] Speaker B: Yo.
[00:26:34] Speaker A: I could see Mrs. Pape. I could see because you know, she, she's athletic, she runs lots of marathons.
[00:26:39] Speaker B: I'm kind of with you on her.
Get her out there.
[00:26:42] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:26:43] Speaker B: I didn't know we were like.
[00:26:45] Speaker A: Put her at the three.
You could move up.
[00:26:47] Speaker B: We totally could.
[00:26:48] Speaker A: You could move up Reagan to the four and Dr. Elliott to the five.
[00:26:52] Speaker B: Oh, I'm so lost of what we got right now, but we got. You're gonna have to find these professors faces or something.
[00:26:57] Speaker A: That's gonna be great. Poor Will.
Good thing we've done an episode forever, I guess.
[00:27:02] Speaker B: Yeah. I feel like we're missing so many professors, but I'm, like, going by their office. Oh, we got Dr. Stevenson. He's a skater dude.
[00:27:11] Speaker A: He's a big hockey guy.
[00:27:12] Speaker B: Hockey. First team, all.
[00:27:14] Speaker A: No, actually, speaking of Dr. Stevenson, JJ. Coach. Coach Routley, first year coaching basketball at Tri State Christian. Coach.
I don't know. Jj, can you.
[00:27:27] Speaker B: I don't know.
[00:27:28] Speaker A: I don't know.
[00:27:29] Speaker B: I don't know. Okay, this is what we got right now.
[00:27:32] Speaker A: Okay.
[00:27:32] Speaker B: Starting point guard are one. Mike Eels.
[00:27:35] Speaker A: Mike Eels are one.
[00:27:36] Speaker B: Okay, who did we decide? And then Reagan is. You put Reagan.
[00:27:39] Speaker A: Let's go. No, we did. I think four. No. Mr. Cozen.
Elliot. Dr. Elliot's got to be the same. Yeah. So it's. It's Mr. Eels at the 1, Mr. Cozen at the 2.
[00:27:54] Speaker B: Okay. Pape.
[00:27:55] Speaker A: Do we put Pape. This is pape at the three. Let's do paper at three, Mr. Banaski. Four at the four, at the five.
[00:28:02] Speaker B: First off the bench, we're doing Jack Fish.
[00:28:04] Speaker A: Doing Dr. Fish. And then Dr. Jimmo.
[00:28:07] Speaker B: No, McLeod, first off the bench.
[00:28:09] Speaker A: Where's my Diet Coke?
[00:28:10] Speaker B: He gave me better grades than Dr. Fish.
[00:28:14] Speaker A: And then you said Dr. Ryan.
[00:28:15] Speaker B: No, you. Hey, if you get, like.
If he's tapped in with Dr. CO. Or diet Coke, either two of either of them. Facial Mercloud. Like, I'm. I'm putting. They're starting over. Everyone. I. Over everywhere.
[00:28:28] Speaker A: If we don't bet. But if I bet, I put my money on Dr. Fish with Diet Coke.
[00:28:32] Speaker B: Yeah, you give him Dr. Like. It's just like Dr.
[00:28:34] Speaker A: Fish when he drinks a Diet Coke is literally like Popeye when Popeye eats a can of spinach.
[00:28:38] Speaker B: If he can hold the Diet Coke. If he can hold it out. Coke while playing basketball, I'm taking him over everybody.
[00:28:42] Speaker A: I mean, think. I mean, he's a. Was a fantastic wrestler back. He wrestled in college.
[00:28:48] Speaker B: He bikes his. His age on his birthday. On his birthday every year. So. Okay, I like the five.
[00:28:52] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:28:53] Speaker B: And then we have. On the bench, we got, like, McLeod fish. That's fun.
[00:28:56] Speaker A: Riley.
[00:28:56] Speaker B: Oh, yeah, Jeff Riley. I think he's got to be like, first off, bench, shout out to Jeff Riley. You can sub him in at the five or even at the four for Reagan or. Or shift around the lineup a little bit.
I like this.
[00:29:08] Speaker A: This is good with. Yeah. Coach Iverson. Mr. Iverson. Our science and math. Oh, JJ. JJ's got to be out there coaching Dr. Broussard. Refiner coach.
[00:29:16] Speaker B: Oh, what about Dan Fleming?
[00:29:17] Speaker A: Oh, Dr. Fleming. That's true.
[00:29:19] Speaker B: I feel like he doesn't like sports Though, He's.
[00:29:22] Speaker A: He likes to watch football.
[00:29:24] Speaker B: Yeah, I take Elliot over Fleming right now, though.
[00:29:27] Speaker A: I would, too.
[00:29:28] Speaker B: Yeah, sorry, Dr. Fleming, but you. You guys are all on the bench.
[00:29:31] Speaker A: It's our master's advice.
[00:29:32] Speaker B: And we said your name. You're on the bench. Jj, you're gonna get a lot of playing time. Don't worry. Okay.
[00:29:36] Speaker A: Yeah, we'll sub you in. Don't worry.
[00:29:38] Speaker B: We're gonna end this shortly. But they would be playing against the staff team, and they're gonna get destroyed. We're talking about this. We're like, do we include staff or not? We're like, if we include staff, it's only staff. No one's talking about the faculty.
Because what we got, staff team. We got, like. We got, like, so much to use. We got the all maintenance guys. Like, put them, like, defensively.
[00:29:57] Speaker A: Like I said, my God, Johnny is going to go post up and you're not going to be able to move.
[00:30:01] Speaker B: Him because Johnny's our maintenance man. He is a brick wall. Jeff Hagen.
[00:30:06] Speaker A: Jeff would not. Yeah, nothing's given by Jeff. Luke would. Would go out there and block everything.
Joel has underrated.
Who's our. Has an underrated.
[00:30:16] Speaker B: He's athletic. He's. Yeah, he's got. He's got a pretty good job.
[00:30:18] Speaker A: And in our rd, who just graduated from the basketball team last year, I'm a sharp shooter.
[00:30:23] Speaker B: Matt's a sharpshooter. I'm off the bench, though. I can't go up and down the court as much as the rest of them, or actually definitely some of them, but.
[00:30:31] Speaker A: And then you have, like, Coach Reggie.
[00:30:33] Speaker B: Oh, my gosh.
We're.
[00:30:36] Speaker A: They're done. We have Anita.
[00:30:38] Speaker B: They're done. It's over. It's over, man.
[00:30:41] Speaker A: It's over.
[00:30:43] Speaker B: That's like. I feel like I would feel like Halliburton on that team, like, with the Olympic. Halliburton.
[00:30:48] Speaker A: If you guys agree with us on this starting five, let us know. Or if you think that you have a better starting five. We would love to see what that starting five is with or without the cabinet or with or without the staff.
[00:30:59] Speaker B: Yeah, we didn't include the cabinet. I think they could help the. We'd have to put down faculty. They would definitely. I think they would help.
[00:31:04] Speaker A: I mean, if we're looking at. If we're looking at the. If we're looking at the cabinet. I mean, Joe's the one.
[00:31:08] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:31:08] Speaker A: He's the one. Facilitates everything.
[00:31:10] Speaker B: Yeah. Well, I mean, like. Like in real life. Yeah. But on the court, can. Can he do It.
[00:31:14] Speaker A: Joe's the commentator. Joe's actually our commentator.
[00:31:17] Speaker B: So let's, let's see if.
[00:31:17] Speaker A: Let's see what Voice of the Eagles.
[00:31:19] Speaker B: Give him a basketball to see what he can do right there. It doesn't matter if you include the cabinet on faculty or not. They're getting, they're getting wiped. Like it's not even, it's not even close. And I say if anyone disagrees with that, like, you're wrong. Like, I'm sorry, you're just wrong. Like, it's not even close. You guys can go to our website, look at everybody we just named and be like, yeah, you know what, Shane and Matt, like, you have a lot of terrible takes about anything and everything.
