[00:00:00] Speaker A: We had a great weekend. Very rare. [00:00:05] Speaker B: Very rare. [00:00:06] Speaker A: Super rare guys. Like extremely rare. And welcome back to the Emmaus athletic podcast in the Nest. I'm your co host Shane Douglas here with Matthew Tomlinson. I always have like a little pause in there. I don't know why. [00:00:23] Speaker B: Hey Matthew. [00:00:23] Speaker A: Not a breath at all. But I got like a, it's like an awkward pause. Not as smooth as usual. But we had last week off. [00:00:31] Speaker B: We did. Happy Thanksgiving. [00:00:32] Speaker A: Happy Thanksgiving. Merry Christmas. Honestly, I find it poetic that December 1st, December 2nd it snows. [00:00:41] Speaker B: I know right? [00:00:42] Speaker A: Just like right after Thanksgiving. Snow sticks cigarette. It's gone now. It's gone now. But super minutes. Very there was and I loved it. So I was, I was very thankful of the snow being there. But once like post January, I'm done. I'm done January 2nd. Get that snow out of like I. [00:00:59] Speaker B: Want a white Christmas start. [00:01:00] Speaker A: That's it getting melted. My father in law works, he does, does yard work, landscaping, stuff like that. In the winter snow crew in the winter. He. This is his me like he's here. Like I'm like the bane. Like my, my, my perfect winner is the same. [00:01:16] Speaker B: You don't want Randy to have a job in the winter. [00:01:18] Speaker A: No, no, I, I want him to have a job. I want him to be you know, successful and you know, do great. But yeah, I don't want snow, man. I, I love it especially I'm all. [00:01:29] Speaker B: For it now for basketball and for us in enrollment. Like the spring semester is travel season like all January, February and it's like I'll be traveling in that. [00:01:38] Speaker A: Yeah, no one wants to be and like yeah, the travel sucks. You, I mean you get multiple, multiple times. Especially last year, the last two years. [00:01:46] Speaker B: Our first road trip last year we got, we got stuck in a blizzard in Ankeny and had to like we couldn't get home back to Dubuque's way to stay in city for, for the. An extra night sucks. [00:01:55] Speaker A: You know and nobody wants that. Like as a, as a student I probably would be fine. Like I'm hanging out with be a. [00:02:02] Speaker B: Snow day snow class. [00:02:03] Speaker A: Hanging out with my buds. We're chilling. Oh we don't got to go to school. We got snowed in in Iowa City. Uhoh. Like I'm cool with the best part. [00:02:11] Speaker B: Is here for snow days we'd have a few professors that be like snow days. And we'd have a few other professors that would be like nope, I'm making the trek to school. We're having class. [00:02:20] Speaker A: I mean yeah, we got Mr. Jimmo he's. He' actually right outside the door across the street. There's a door. I know you guys only see us right there, but there's. This is a really tiny room. We need a bigger studio. Wink, wink. But we're pretty much in a closet. And it's great. We love this closet. And they've made this closet beautiful. [00:02:39] Speaker B: I know. Like, look at all the great things. [00:02:41] Speaker A: It's beautiful. This side. That side, you got Will and a lot of other stuff. Not as beautiful. Gear and stuff, but. No, just joking. But there's a door right here. Outside the door. Some classrooms. And Mr. Jimos, he's always teaching right before we record this podcast. And he lives right across the street. [00:02:59] Speaker B: He does. [00:02:59] Speaker A: Right across the street. So no, snow days don't exist to him. [00:03:02] Speaker B: It's actually cool the amount of professors that live within three blocks of. [00:03:05] Speaker A: Oh, well, you got Mr. Ellie. Mr. Or Dr. Elliot. [00:03:08] Speaker B: Yeah. Co J. [00:03:13] Speaker A: Couple people in the apartments, so. Yeah, there's a lot. Either way, though. Snow's on the ground. Good symbol of winter season. [00:03:26] Speaker B: Sleigh building in. Awkward pause. [00:03:31] Speaker A: I just love leaving you out there, man. [00:03:33] Speaker B: I know. [00:03:34] Speaker A: What the heck? [00:03:34] Speaker B: We like to make jokes to each other and just respond, like, what? [00:03:39] Speaker A: Well, I can. I can see your brain moving sometimes. [00:03:41] Speaker B: No. Oh, that's weird. Hopefully I don't have a concussion. [00:03:44] Speaker A: Okay, I'm done with you. [00:03:44] Speaker B: That's crazy. [00:03:45] Speaker A: Okay, let's get this moving now. You're such a punk, dude. Like, I'll say something. No, you'll say something to me and I'll make you feel weird. Or vice versa. [00:03:53] Speaker B: Responded. [00:03:54] Speaker A: I can just see. I can read your face. You're like. You are not. [00:03:57] Speaker B: Don't take the bait. No, I'm not confused. [00:03:59] Speaker A: You take the bait. [00:04:00] Speaker B: Not taking the bait. [00:04:01] Speaker A: Well, it's pretty rare for you, too. [00:04:02] Speaker B: I know. [00:04:03] Speaker A: Speaking of rare. [00:04:04] Speaker B: Not a fish. [00:04:06] Speaker A: What? [00:04:06] Speaker B: What? Forget about it. [00:04:08] Speaker A: Speaking of rare. [00:04:09] Speaker B: My goodness. [00:04:10] Speaker A: We had a great. [00:04:12] Speaker B: We did have. [00:04:13] Speaker A: Weekend. [00:04:13] Speaker B: Did a rare weekend. [00:04:15] Speaker A: Very rare. Very super rare, guys. Like, extremely rare. Again, rare. Especially the other night. [00:04:20] Speaker B: I know. Two nights ago. [00:04:21] Speaker A: A rare win. Rare win for our Emmaus women's basketball team. We'll get to that. You'll go over the records and everything, but we had three games before. Right before Thanksgiving last weekend. Right before Thanksgiving. Oh, yeah, that's right. [00:04:37] Speaker B: Three games. And then went into Thanksgiving break and then came right up. Break. The girls had one practice and then a game. [00:04:42] Speaker A: Yep. So four games total. Two women's, two men's. And what was the outcome of that, Matt? [00:04:50] Speaker B: Three and one record between the four games. But we'll talk about the last. Wait. Two Fridays ago we both teams traveled up to Minnesota, to Plymouth, Minnesota to play Free Lutheran Bible College. They hosted us and Oak Hills and so we played games there. Guys played first. Rare, speaking of rare, very rare occurrence that the men's game and then followed by the women's game. Really it's always the women's game followed by the men's game. [00:05:18] Speaker A: That is true. [00:05:18] Speaker B: So when we played up there it was the men's game and then the women's game. So yeah, we played FLPC last year. When we played them they were two of our, our wins last year. This year they are going through a tough time up there. It's, it's kind of interesting because like when I played back in the day they were like one of the best teams we played. [00:05:42] Speaker A: And we've talked about them earlier, right? [00:05:44] Speaker B: We talked a little bit, I think last, last or last episode we talked a little bit about it. But yeah, they're just, they're in a, in a tough spot basketball wise on the guys side. And so you know they have seven guys and a couple guys that are injured but one guy that's currently playing is the only one that's played high school basketball before this point. And so we decided not to play our starters, our sixth man and our seventh man. So our are back into the roster. Guys all got to play. [00:06:11] Speaker A: They played really well. [00:06:12] Speaker B: It was a great experience for them. Like they were able to get some minutes, get some experience. We were able to see some different things that they were able to do. And we ended up pulling a victory. We won 114 to 14 which was the second largest win in Amazon's basketball history. [00:06:28] Speaker A: Second. [00:06:29] Speaker B: So it's cool to see, you know, you know Caleb Ashley had 27 points, Lance Hall Jr. Had 22 points, 1212 kills, six rebound. Colton had 18 points, nine rebounds. Ethan had 15 points and Jared had 10 points. I think Will had 16 and Nathaniel had six. And so it was really cool to see them get that college basketball experience and also some valuable experience and also you know, just them able to play too. And so that was, that was how the game went. And then the girl, the ladies played afterwards. FOBC team. The girls are greatly improved from where they were last year. Yeah, it was an intense game. FLBC ended up winning 58, 42. [00:07:14] Speaker A: But similar on the men's FLB site, FLBC side where they're struggling this year, different circumstances but our women's team struggling for our Own reasons this year had a hard fought. A hard fought battle against the women's team for FLBC. [00:07:30] Speaker B: Yeah, it was good. I mean, Aaron had 18 points, Maddie had 14 points, Rachel 20 rebounds, another 20 rebound game dog. So, yeah, it was. And then the next day, Saturday, we played Oak Hills. They did not because Oak Hills canceled their semester, unfortunately. So we played Oak Hills. It was a great game. It was a fun game. Going into break, we ended up winning 87 to 66. It was close until probably about 10, maybe five minutes into the second half. And then our team, our guys really put their foot down and, you know, took the game away. You know, Josh was crucial in that he hit, I think, five. He had five threes in the second half, which really pulled us out. So, you know, Tatum had 24 points. He had six three pointers. So him and Josh had 11 three pointers combined, which is really cool. Josh had 15. Yeah. So it's really good to. To have that going into the break with a 5 and 2 record. That's super encouraging. Super great. I mean, after the game, we went to the Mall America, and we're hanging out there for a couple hours. I know it was. It was way too long. There were so many people that were. [00:08:29] Speaker A: I mean, what, like Thanksgiving weekend? [00:08:31] Speaker B: Schools just got out crazy. [00:08:33] Speaker A: That's a bad time for you guys to go. [00:08:35] Speaker B: So it's really encouraging. [00:08:36] Speaker A: Lose everybody. [00:08:37] Speaker B: I know that was there. Like, I can't find the Lego store. [00:08:40] Speaker A: Lego store? Did you go to Lego store? [00:08:41] Speaker B: We went to. We went to Panda Express, Shout out to L. And Bland's mom who bought everyone lunch. Wow. Yeah. Championship. Love you, Denise. And then, yeah, went to Lego store. Went to the. We. No one rode any rides, but we walked around, like, the theme park. [00:08:58] Speaker A: Oh, really? [00:08:58] Speaker B: That was. That was fun. So that'd be funny on a ride together on that. [00:09:03] Speaker A: But yeah, no, that was good. [00:09:05] Speaker B: And so then we had Thanksgiving break. Everyone went home and then came back on Sunday. And then Monday, first practice, and the ladies drove up to Watertown to take on Home of Bubbler. Home of the Bubbler. [00:09:21] Speaker A: That's what they're known for and nothing else. [00:09:24] Speaker B: Yeah, it was a real. It was a. I wouldn't say it was a great game. It was definitely an ugly game. Like, our girls did not play very well, but they overcame. [00:09:37] Speaker A: It was very scrappy. [00:09:38] Speaker B: They overcame that and won the game because they stuck with it the entire game. Even though, like, even the times when Maranatha went on a run or we had a number of turnovers in a row. They still stuck with it. [00:09:50] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:09:50] Speaker B: And they held out for the victory. It was awesome. They won 57 to 47 against Maranatha. You know, Rachel Barrett, 21 points, 19 rebounds. [00:10:02] Speaker A: That's awesome. [00:10:02] Speaker B: Crazy. Aaron McKenna, 20 points, 10 rebounds. [00:10:06] Speaker A: Dang. [00:10:07] Speaker B: Yeah, it's crazy. And if you look at the stats, you know, from the break, from the first week or the. Yeah, from the. This first week or first four days outside of breakfast. If you look at the men's side, Nash Harper, number one in the nation in assists, Number one, Tatum Arguello, number two in the nation in points scored per game. [00:10:24] Speaker A: That's awesome. [00:10:25] Speaker B: Josh Stewart, number three in the nation in three pointers made. And then if we look at the women's side, Erin McKenna, number two in the nation in points scored. And Rachel Barrett, number one in the nation in rebounds. She's averaging like, 18 rebounds a game. [00:10:43] Speaker A: That's crazy. She's like one of the tallest girls I know. [00:10:47] Speaker B: She. And I think. I think of her, what, 19 rebounds. It was like 12 offensive rebounds and seven defensive rebounds. [00:10:54] Speaker A: She's a angel. Reese over here. Yeah. [00:10:55] Speaker B: So it's crazy, but she's scoring, so. Yeah. So it was. It was great to get that victory over Maranatha. [00:11:03] Speaker A: Yep. [00:11:03] Speaker B: As we were talking about it earlier, pretty rare in the office. Pretty rare. Emmaus is 9, 0 and 1 this year against Maranatha. [00:11:12] Speaker A: It's true. [00:11:13] Speaker B: It's true how the tides have turned. It's true how the tides have turned. [00:11:18] Speaker A: Some would say it's rare somewhat. [00:11:19] Speaker B: Some would say it's rare. [00:11:20] Speaker A: We're too petty. We're so sorry. [00:11:21] Speaker B: We are very petty. [00:11:22] Speaker A: But it's always fun competing against Marinette. So we. We appreciate competing against them on. If it's on the field, the court, the track. So we do appreciate them at the end of the day. Same team that was in Jersey. Different jerseys. [00:11:35] Speaker B: But it's nice for the historic success that they have had against us. [00:11:39] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:11:39] Speaker B: That it's. Finally. The pendulum has shifted to our side. [00:11:42] Speaker A: And the thing is, like, both programs are still growing. Maranatha is like. It's. They're on the roller coaster. [00:11:47] Speaker B: They. I mean, they've. I. They've had a number of legendary coaches retire, and I think they've had, what, three coaches that have had. That had, like, 25 plus years of coaching experience at Maranatha. It was soccer, it was basketball, it was volleyball and softball. [00:12:03] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:12:04] Speaker B: So it's. [00:12:04] Speaker A: And they just brought back Coach Pill, so. Yeah, he just came back for the men's team. And you can see so much so much of a difference. And that's why, that's why I'm not, I'm gonna get like, made fun of for this, bringing up soccer in the winter sports. But honestly, like when it came to soccer and with Maranatha, they're always very well disciplined, which at the end of the day, that's what's going to get you that win at. When it comes to crucial time, well. [00:12:29] Speaker B: Disciplined team, more often than not will beat a more talented, undisciplined team. [00:12:34] Speaker A: Oh, a hundred percent. Especially in the crucial times left in the game. If there's a minute left, the well disciplined team is going to finish. [00:12:40] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:12:40] Speaker A: And they're going to finish strong and that's going to carry over into all those sports. And that's why Maranatha has been very successful because they've always been very well disciplined in all their sports, all their athletics. So hopefully that's something that we can pick up here at a mass. And I think I do. We talked about this a lot on the podcast last year, but the tides have been turning here. [00:12:59] Speaker B: Yes. [00:12:59] Speaker A: Not just, not just on the athletic realm, but on the institution. As an institution. Tides have been shifting for athletics. Yeah. There are. There's growth in the players, there's growth in discipline and in skill and bring in good character. Very the best characters. Best basketball character team we've had in years. [00:13:23] Speaker B: Best soccer character, best volleyball character, best cross country character. Like it's been like all across the board, it's been praise the Lord. Oh, yeah, praise the Lord for that. [00:13:31] Speaker A: And at the end of the day, I mean, of course we want wins. We want to put a plaque on the wall. We want to show people, look, look at the success we've had. [00:13:37] Speaker B: Those are nice. [00:13:38] Speaker A: That's what the coaches are like. That' what their job is to bring in players, pour into them, get those plaques. But I can probably speak for the coaches and you can too. Everybody here at the end, Dave, not what it's about. I think our coaches, our faculty staff here would rather see people be winners for the kingdom, winners for the Lord in the day. [00:13:56] Speaker B: And where they're giving an account for what we've done on this earth, it's not going to be, well, well, Jesus, you know, in the 2022 season, you know, I won. We won regionals for basketball or, you know, I scored a thousand points or, you know, we were 15 and 5. No, it's. What did you do, like you said, to advance the kingdom to further his ministry. [00:14:14] Speaker A: Oh, yeah. And we're. [00:14:16] Speaker B: But it's great that sports is a tool and instrument to do that. [00:14:19] Speaker A: And it's awesome that we have the coaches and the right people in the right spots in athletics, in the institution that want to see that success. [00:14:26] Speaker B: Yes. [00:14:27] Speaker A: In our students. In our student athletes. That. Yeah. I think I. I think our coaches. I know our coaches would rather have our student athletes be successful off the field, off the court, off the track, in life, for ministry for God, growing the kingdom, advancing the gospel, then bring home a trophy or a plaque or a medal. Right. I. I'm confident that all the coaches would agree to that, actually. I know for a fact they would. That's something that, you know, with discussions that we have with coaches, either if it has to do with the podcast or just talking about life and, you know, continuing our friendship and relationship with them. We always hear that. We always hear that in the conversation is them pouring into the players or different aspects of discipleship and how they can help the team, not through scheme, not through strategy, but through life, through the walk together. [00:15:22] Speaker B: Yeah. And that's not taking away the competitiveness. It's just. That's not the ultimate goal. The ultimate goal is to develop and to mentor and to grow people, but also playing. And so it's just encouraging. Like, that is who Emmaus is. And we know that that's not going to change. [00:15:40] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:15:40] Speaker B: Ever. [00:15:41] Speaker A: So what is our total record right now for the men's and women's team? [00:15:46] Speaker B: Right now, the men's team is five and two, and the women's team is one and four. So that's our first win. Also. That was Coach Cody Kennard's first career victory as women's head coach. Shout out, Coach Kennard. [00:15:58] Speaker A: Thank you, William. [00:15:59] Speaker B: One of many to go. So it's exciting. [00:16:01] Speaker A: Yeah. And I love what he's been doing with the team. Talking to a lot of the women players. Women players. Women. Women players. [00:16:10] Speaker B: Women players. [00:16:12] Speaker A: Yeah. Doesn't sound. [00:16:13] Speaker B: Players that are women talking. [00:16:18] Speaker A: Awkward. Talking to the team. They've been praising Cody. They've been talking about how they've been growing so much. He's. He's a. What'd you call him? [00:16:27] Speaker B: I think the people that. You don't realize how. How basketball smart Cody is. [00:16:31] Speaker A: Yeah. And that's what. That's what. That's why I'm. Like you said what. He's a student of the game. [00:16:34] Speaker B: He's doing. He's a. He's a. He's an X. [00:16:36] Speaker A: Is a. [00:16:36] Speaker B: No genius. He. He knows the game very well. [00:16:39] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:16:39] Speaker B: And he's teaching these ladies the game very well, which is, I mean, you can see them like not as talented as other teams, but they're still, they're still in every single game because yeah, he's putting them in the right positions to succeed and he's countering the defenses and putting them in good spots. So I'm excited because this, like you said earlier this weekend up ahead is a huge weekend both for both teams, conference wise. And so it's going to be excited to see how I think I said. [00:17:05] Speaker A: That before the podcast. [00:17:07] Speaker B: Everything's getting running together. How the men's team performs in conference and also how the women's team performs in conference this weekend. [00:17:14] Speaker A: And speaking of that, yes, it is a huge weekend coming up. The men's and women's team are both traveling down to Manhattan, Kansas, home of the Wildcats and the Thunder Thunder. So we will be playing against Manhattan Thunder for both men's and women's basketball. And then they're also going to host the Bar Clay Bears coming on over from Havin, Kansas to Manhattan. So we don't have to drive the like extra like six hours or whatever. It may be eternity. [00:17:46] Speaker B: Yeah. So 5 and 7 on Friday against Manhattan and then 10am and 12 noon on Saturday. [00:17:54] Speaker A: You know, it always confuses me how it's. It's 12:00am 12:00pm no, no, the Central time, it's fine. The thunder is a lightning bolt. I know everyone does that. You know, like it's not just Manhattan. No, like the thunder, like thunder is not lightning. [00:18:12] Speaker B: The Chargers. [00:18:13] Speaker A: Yeah, the charger. But that's makes this charger. [00:18:15] Speaker B: The Lightning McQueen's kind of. Yeah, but it's interesting. Yeah, the thunder, but it's also. It's a shield. [00:18:19] Speaker A: They're not the only one who does that. [00:18:21] Speaker B: No. [00:18:21] Speaker A: Okay. See, does it. Do they. No, they just have okc. [00:18:24] Speaker B: I don't think they have a cloud above it or something. [00:18:27] Speaker A: I don't know. Maybe when you look at their symbol, but I know other teams have done that. [00:18:30] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:18:31] Speaker A: I don't know either way though. So that's gonna be. It's important. It's a big week. [00:18:34] Speaker B: He has man. For the men, Manhattan is ranked as the 10th ranked team in the nation. So it'll be a big matchup for against Manhattan and Barkley, but. Yeah. And on the women's side, playing Manhattan and playing Barkley, Manhattan's been an interesting game because Manhattan also only has five players. [00:18:50] Speaker A: Wait, what? [00:18:50] Speaker B: You also forgot for women, but we also forgot to mention Kate Jansen's back after the cross country season. She played in her first game against Marinatha. Excuse me. And so now we're up to seven. So that's exciting to have some more depth on the team for the ladies. [00:19:04] Speaker A: And you know that she won't get gassed. [00:19:06] Speaker B: Nope. She can run the entire unconditioned. She had six points. [00:19:10] Speaker A: That is nice. [00:19:11] Speaker B: On Tuesday. [00:19:11] Speaker A: Yeah. So that is nice. I know coach Kennard is probably trying to ease her into the lineup, not throw too much practice at all. Yeah. And it's fair. But yeah. You know, no big weekend against the Thunder and the Bears with Barclay in Manhattan. Barclay, like you said, they've. They've always been pretty good. The most recent years, Manhattan being a staple in conference. Being a team that you have to beat, you have to get through if you want a championship. A conference championship. I mean that is. That is said on. Across all sports that we play them against for the. [00:19:45] Speaker B: This is interesting because this is the first time in eight plus years that we played first semester teams. Conference teams in the first semester. Yeah, that's which is a new rule that we have to play conference teams in both semesters. But yeah, usually it's always regional or random games first semester and then all conference second semester. So it'll be interesting to see, you know, look at them first semester. [00:20:06] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:20:06] Speaker B: As opposed to. [00:20:07] Speaker A: But there's not. How many second semester, how many more. I know we're going to have. We'll talk about this next weekend. But how many games are left on. [00:20:14] Speaker B: Three games for the men, three games for the women. [00:20:15] Speaker A: So. But what's really cool, everybody who's watching and listening, who's newer to Emmaus athletics, even if new is last three or four years. We have never really have produced well in the first half of the season in my opinion. I feel like the men's and women's team have always. It's been a struggle, especially on the men's side. [00:20:37] Speaker B: I mean it's all those pay to play games. [00:20:38] Speaker A: Yeah. Yeah. [00:20:39] Speaker B: The first half of the season were 5 and 2. Like exactly. Like there's a chance we're gonna be like we could. If we lose all three games, we'll be 501st semester. And I don't know if that's happened in a while. [00:20:49] Speaker A: It hasn't. So this is really exciting times for our men's basketball team, seeing where they're at. And of course there's been a lot of tough teams, but some, you know, teams like conference, we don't play conference early on. So to have two conference games right now and then we already had a regional Game. Okay. List is in our region, but Moody. [00:21:06] Speaker B: And Maranath are for the men. [00:21:07] Speaker A: Yeah. So we had two regional games and. [00:21:09] Speaker B: Then Kuiper next week, which we'll talk about later. So. Yeah. [00:21:12] Speaker A: So three regional, two conference and first half of the season. It is very interesting. [00:21:16] Speaker B: Yeah. And it's good. It's also good, I think going into Christmas break of like having that knowledge of. Okay. You know, Kuiper was. I think they got the 2C lot for the. For the men. At least Kyber got the two seed. Piper's good for the men and obviously Manhattan was runners up. [00:21:32] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:21:32] Speaker B: And the Barkley beat us on a buzzer beater for fifth place in the conference. And so like we're playing good teams in the conference and good teams in the region. And so it's going to let us know going into break of. Okay. What adjustments need to happen. [00:21:44] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:21:44] Speaker B: Over break and letting the guys know. Okay. Like, oh boy. Like this is, this is the level of where the conference is. I need to step it up especially over break and go into next semester. [00:21:53] Speaker A: And these are three teams to really watch out for. [00:21:56] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:21:56] Speaker A: And don't get me wrong, these. This is not a cake in a walk in a park. What's the cake part? [00:22:01] Speaker B: A cake park cake in the walk. [00:22:03] Speaker A: Someone says that. There's a saying. I don't know. I say things, guys. But this is not going to be a walk in the park for a men's basketball team for the rest of the semester. Kuiper, super good, uber talented. They. They have their. They have like a bunch of JV teams. Correct. [00:22:17] Speaker B: 4. They have three JV teams and like. [00:22:19] Speaker A: Even those JV teams can compete against our starters. So Kyber is going to be very challenging. [00:22:24] Speaker B: But I'm excited because this is going to show where we are because we are a talented team as well. And so it's going to be fun seeing two talented teams playing each game. [00:22:31] Speaker A: For the guys side and seeing how talented we are this year. Going up against Manhattan, Barclay this weekend. It's going to be fun. [00:22:36] Speaker B: Yes. [00:22:36] Speaker A: It's going to be fun to see where we match up against a Manhattan team that has steamrolled our conference for years, that has gatekeeped the trophy and then Barclay who honestly this year. Yeah, they've been growing a lot as a program. Yeah, they've been school too. [00:22:55] Speaker B: Like they're adding like a whole nursing building and stuff like that. [00:22:57] Speaker A: Oh, it's cool. They've been. [00:22:59] Speaker B: Yeah, I think they're building a new gym right now because right now they're currently playing at the high school in Javierland. [00:23:04] Speaker A: Sweet. [00:23:04] Speaker B: While they're building their new gym, I. [00:23:06] Speaker A: Think because their gym isn't that big. [00:23:08] Speaker B: Nope. [00:23:08] Speaker A: It's a similar to Calvary's. [00:23:10] Speaker B: It's a high school size court as well. [00:23:12] Speaker A: Yeah. That stinks. But it's nice how they're getting a new gym. [00:23:15] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:23:15] Speaker A: But Barclays always been around in conversations when it comes to athletics. They had. They've had their rebuilding years, but they've rebuilt and they have been producing very well when it comes to athletics. Their soccer team just went to nationals and volleyball has been decent the last couple of years. So I'm excited to see what our men's team, this new, this fresh team can do against a powerhouse of Manhattan and a. A staple of Barclay. So looking for. And that's including for our women's team. They just got their first win. [00:23:48] Speaker B: Did got some momentum going. [00:23:49] Speaker A: Got the momentum. We just added Kate Janssen back to the lineup. So with more depth, more pieces. Cody Canard and company helping put these put our women's team in the best situation to win defensively, offensively. Special teams, special teams. DT suck. [00:24:11] Speaker B: That's like three months too old or. [00:24:15] Speaker A: That's pretty old. Yeah. That's like a summertime man. [00:24:17] Speaker B: It was. [00:24:17] Speaker A: All the, all the camp kids were cooler than that. Special things that and like, you know, skippity, whatever. I don't know. [00:24:25] Speaker B: But real quick, before we wrap up some fall sports updates, some postseason awards were handed out. So for soccer, Tucker Capis received second team All American. Shout out Tucker. [00:24:39] Speaker A: There you go, Tuck. [00:24:40] Speaker B: And then on the final ranking poll for Women's Volleyball, your MAS Eagles ranked 9th in the nation and we didn't. [00:24:50] Speaker A: Even go to nationals. [00:24:52] Speaker B: Didn't even go to nationals. [00:24:53] Speaker A: Ranked ninth in the nation because the top ego. [00:24:55] Speaker B: And we were the one that just. But yeah, but yeah. So that's super encouraging. [00:25:02] Speaker A: Awesome. [00:25:02] Speaker B: Second team all American. [00:25:04] Speaker A: Hey, there you go, man. 888. This is a fantasy football gamer tag or whatever tag, I don't know username. So that. Yeah, no, that's really cool for Tucker. Congratulations, buddy. We love you as a keeper. We love you as a student athlete. You've been a great asset to the student body, asset to the campus, the community here. So man, successful season for him. Yeah. Successful season for all of our fall sports. I know it didn't end up how we wanted and we're going to have some exit interviews probably throughout the next couple weeks with some of the. The coaches and maybe some of the players and you'll get to hear from them and their thoughts of the season and going into the next. But, you know, nothing to be ashamed of. [00:25:50] Speaker B: Not at all. [00:25:50] Speaker A: A lot to be proud of for this season and just take that momentum into the next, you know, build, build, build, continue to build, because you never know. You only have that one season. Every season is different because the lineups always change. It's college. [00:26:03] Speaker B: It is. [00:26:04] Speaker A: But looking forward to the games this weekend and then even next for our basketball teams to finish out the first part of season of the winter season season. [00:26:15] Speaker B: First half. [00:26:16] Speaker A: What do you call this? Yeah, the first half of the season. So it's gonna be fun. Looking forward to that. Always great to beat Maranatha. You're welcome, Faith. You guys can have a casual, casual day. But with that said, man, I just want to thank you guys all for listening. We. But I do, I do love the stories of, hey, I love listening to your podcast and I'm on the sideline and they're like, playing basketball. It's like, oh, thanks. Or going to visit schools. You got Emily from Unity and she's listening. So just so, so thankful for all you guys. [00:27:53] Speaker B: Really appreciate it. [00:27:54] Speaker A: Oh, so it's so fun because we're so, you know, intentionally small of a school and we just love talking about sports. We love sports and we get this opportunity to have this be a part of our job of growing, continuing Our relationship with these students that, you know, the Lord has brought. Has used us to bring them in, and it's just a fun part. And we have no idea how. How big it gets, how many people listen, who listens. So it's always a treat to hear from you guys. [00:28:21] Speaker B: Thank you. [00:28:22] Speaker A: So thank you for listening to us. And I guess that's my Thanksgiving spiel. And that's what we're. I can speak for both of us. That we're both. [00:28:35] Speaker A: If he doesn't, I miss him talking. I liked it when he, you know, rant a little bit. Maybe someone. [00:28:39] Speaker B: He posts a funny picture of himself when he's talking on the. On the podcast. [00:28:43] Speaker A: Yeah, someone backhands him, you know.
